We were looking for a hearty omelet today. Effie hiking and we sure did find it. No problem with substitutions and making it egg white. I got the Turkey omelet that happens to come with an entire half of an avocado in too which meant enough for me to make avocado toast with my whole grain toast that came on the side. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! Nothing but love for this place! I am all for local, family run businesses and the owners Darren (Chef Big D, himself!) and Kelly do an outstanding job. All the baking of the bread is done in house; the Cranberry Sourdough bread is delish. The portions here are great, always fresh and you always leave full. Coffee is hot and tasty. Chef Big D's used to have an AMAZING Turkey Omelette on the menu - fresh roasted turkey (real turkey, not processed), Havarti cheese, red onions and 1/2 an avocado on top. it was To.Die.For. - wish they would bring it back (hint,hint). The hashbrowns are cut pototoes that are perfectly cooked. Eggs always cooked exactly like you order them. My new standby since the above noted Omelette is gone, are the Tropical Pancakes. Coconut and Bananas, such a great combo! Husband and I try and stop in at least once over the weekend. The servers now recognize us and we are greeted with sincere smiles and friendly chat. Breakfast for two with coffee each and one juice usually runs us around $22 - can't beat that! Another reviewer mentioned 'greasy spoon' - far from greasy, definitely a diner style (seat yourself at a CLEAN table), but not greasy. I wish that they could open a restaurant that served dinner. The food is always good, the portions are always generous, and the service is always efficient. There are some menu items I am not thrilled about, such as the hashbrowns, and I found that the tropical pancakes got soggy after awhile with the sauce, but were otherwise tasty; next time I could ask for the sauce on the side. I have found plenty of menu items that I am thrilled about, though -- I love your caesar salad, beef dip, beef dip melt, and club house to name a few. Wife and I stopped here craving a burger. It sounded good and we had high expectations for this 1/2 pound $14.25 burger, but when it arrived it tasted like thanksgiving stuffing, so we asked if they mistook it for some kind of veggie burger. Turns out they cut it with bread crumbs, which explained the colour, texture and taste. They must use a LOT of bread. We had ordered a smoked salmon salad and were splitting the burger but we could both only handle one bite each. We told the server we didn't want the burger, and the owner came out and made a scene in front of everyone in the restaurant. We told her we did not want to pay because it was not all beef. She claimed that the description on the menu said "spiced burger" and that bread crumbs was a spice. Terrible service and gross burger. read more

When she sits us down she then thinks that it was so rude of us to get our own menus so we asked if she wanted us to leave and she said yes. Stopped here on our way to Whistler. Half of our party got breakfast items and half got lunch. Unfortunately, none of us really liked our food. My son's hamburger was seasoned with a weird taste. The smell radiated from the burger to the other side of the table and I had to move away. The three berry pancakes were ok, but they were very dense, not fluffy at all. I feel really bad for giving this place one star because the food did look good. My family and I went on a Tuesday morning. We stood at the entrance for ten minutes waiting for an available table to be cleared as the sign stated. Eventually, we just sat down at the dirty table just to make it clear that our intentions were in fact to dine. After another ten minutes without any type of service or acknowledgement of our existence we got up and left. It wouldn't have bothered me so much if they were just busy, which they were, it's the fact that the three waitresses spent the majority of the time at the kitchen just standing there and mostly looking lost. A couple behind us took their own seats as well at some point and eventually got up to help themselves to menus. Tried to experience Chef Big D's on Saturday, October 14th around 12:30. No such luck. Rude, indifferent, and totally ignorant staff took care of that. Stopped in on our way to Whistler from Vancouver. Expected a line up. We were pleasantly surprised with being the next ones in. (i.e. no line up) One waitress (tall blonde with glasses) with all the menus under one arm was standing in the restaurant proper talking to a couple of customers seated at a table for two. Another staff member was behind the counter (cash register) staring off into the restaurant with a look of disdain and indifference. The other staff member (waitress?) could be seen running the odd plate of food from the kitchen to various customers. Sign when you come in stating you seat yourself at any CLEAN table. A quick perusal of the restaurant netted 7 empty tables, ALL dirty with dishes. We waited for 15 minutes inside the door and around the little screen, and in plain view of the staff member behind the cash register, the staff member that was STILL talking to the same couple after 15 minutes had passed (really?) and the staff member that was running food who had now retreated to the kitchen to shoot the breeze with the kitchen staff. After receiving ZERO anything (no eye contact, no acknowledgement from anybody) for 15 minutes (YES, I did time it) as well as not seeing anybody even go near one of the dirty tables let alone attempt to clean one, I walked up to the cash counter and inquired about the seating. I was informed that we could sit at any clean table. I stated I understood that, but there wasn't any clean tables, only 7 dirty ones. I was then told to wait at the door for a clean table. I stated that we had been waiting by the door for a clean table for the past 15 minutes, but when one failed to materialize (after 15 minutes) I thought I would come up and make sure that we were still doing the right thing. I was then told (again) that I would have to wait at the door for a clean table. I said no we had waited long enough and we were leaving and would NOT be back. Things that bugged me about this experience the most. #1 The tall blonde waitress (glasses) with all the menus under her arm that stood there talking to two customers for almost a full 20 minutes without once looking around, acknowledging us or the three other people that arrived about 10 minutes after we did, and from what I could see, the people that were seated at clean tables (there were at least two) that had zero cutlery or drinks or food. #2 The "person" behind the cash register that looked right through me as I was talking to her, didn't seem to have a bone in her body that cared about anything, and appeared so indifferent to everything that was going on around her, I was wondering what she was actually doing there in the first place. #3 The waitress that was running the food that disappeared into the kitchen to shoot the breeze with the kitchen staff, when it was obviously apparent there were customers waiting and tables to be cleaned. I mean really. Does Chef Big D's hire people like this on purpose or are these traits part of Big D's training seminars? Maybe some people can justify being treated with disdain, indifference, and ignorance by saying the food is worth it, but I must say I am NOT one of them. No food anywhere is worth being treated like we were. Can't help but think this restaurant would be lucky last a week in Vancouver with that staff and attitude. Oh well. One less reason to stop in Squamish I guess. read more

love love their breakfasts! their ingredients are fresh. they make your breakfast after you order. the fresh fruit for an extra $1.75 (if i remembered correctly) is very worth it - mine came with strawberries, cantaloupe slices, grapes and half of a green apple. their hash browns are great too! they don't make it like regular hash browns and so isn't as oily. service is a bit slow here so make sure you are not in a rush if you decide to dine here. you seat yourselves at a clean table and it takes them a while to bring over the menus and take your order. it's also because they're super busy as well. if you're looking for a plain good breakfast or something different, they have them both here. read more

Nice little local spot. Fast friendly service. I had a bowl of tomato/roasted pepper soup and a spring greens salad. Both were tasty and fresh. My son had a French dip melt, also tasty served on a toasted garlic roll. The only slight negative was they don't offer unsweetened tea, or at least today they didn't.
