Cheerful ambiance, got seated right away for later dinner on a Sunday. Chip +dip upgraded to poutine was 19.50. Gravy was great and cheese curds were plentiful, but the fries weren't hot and the cheese never melted. The cottage pie was very mashed potato heavy and it was good to dip the French fries into. What is not to love about Dubh Linn Gate?? First off, the location is prime, right at the base of the lifts. Second off - the food is delicious! What better spot to sit for a hot meal after a day on the mountain? And lastly - the vibe. Friendly staff and tentative staff to make sure you have all you need. Last time we were in, we had the Parmesan chicken bites which were some of the best I've had - flavorful with a crispy outside and a tender inside - and the grilled cheese - with the best bread I've ever had for a cheesy sandwich. Even my picker eaters cleared their plates! The time before, my friend and I posted up outside by the fire while our husbands hit the slopes. They didn't seem to mind and we enjoyed the quality time, drinks, and view. One of my favourite bars to go to when I am in Whistler because the crowd here is always great! They have a lot of indoor seating as well as a nice patio which you can also enjoy in the winter because they have this huge firepit going. Ordering from the bar can sometimes take a while but that's expected with any busy bar! Nice patio, great service, and tasty food. Dropped by on a weekday for lunch and the sun was shining. It was nice to get in a patio meal before leaving Whistler. Our server was friendly and attentive. Peak burger- upgraded to rosemary fries and it was delicious, the dipping sauce went perfectly with it. The burger was a good size and I liked the pickled onions. It did taste a little bit dry, but still a solid burger. Caesar salad- this was a huge portion. It came with plenty of cheese, bacon bits and croutons. I also liked that they didn't overdress the salad with dressing. Sticky toffee pudding- perfect way to end the meal. We were wandering the village without a reservation looking for a place for a group of 9 for dinner. a person in our group had been here before and we went for the laid back vibe and plentiful options on the menu. There was no wait so we were seated inside (there is a decent sized patio) on the right side away from the stage, where there was a band playing music. It was crowded and our server was great! Our food did take some time to come out, but they looked busy and this wasn't our server's fault. I debated between one of the burgers and the fish and chips and I'm glad it went with the fish and chips. It came out piping hot and there was a decent amount of food. It was a bit greasy, but the breading was not too thick. the fish was haddock, which I rarely see in fish and chips (usually cod). It came with a lot of fries. I also tried the nachos, which strangely enough cost significantly more than the fish and chips. I also had some of the clam chowder and that was good as well. All portions were huge! They don't take reservations so it shouldn't be alarming if a party of any size walks up wanting to get seated. We were staying at the Pan Pacific Hotel above Dubh Linn Gate, so it was a convenient option during our recent stay in Whistler. This pub has a lively vibe, with lots of rustic dark wood everywhere -- it's a great atmosphere. The first night we visited, we only went for drinks, and I thought the Smoky Margarita sounded good -- it had a mix of tequila and mezcal. At first I was taken aback by how small of a drink I received for $15. But then I actually tried it... and it was really good. Smoky is the perfect description, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. We visited Dubh Linn for dinner the next night. I started with a Smoky Marg again, because it was just that good. This time I didn't care about the price. Our table started with an app of soft oven-baked pretzels, which came with cheese and grainy mustard -- all very good. Fish & chips seem like a staple for Irish food, so I ordered some along with a glass of Guinness. The fish was a large haddock filet, which was fresh with a nice crispy batter (although very slightly greasy). The "chips" were golden brown and tasty, too. Not the best fish & chips I've ever had, but definitely worthy of 4 stars. As someone who enjoys stout / dark beers, I'm surprised I had never tried a Guinness before -- it had to be one of the best stouts I've ever had, and a nice pairing with my dinner. If you are in Whistler and want a fun, noisy environment to get a few drinks, I recommend this spot. read more

After arriving for our first-ever weekend in Whistler, we got unpacked at our hotel and walked down from the upper village to find some dinner. We had settled on Dubh Linn Gate ahead of time -- in part, I think, in search of live music to accompany our food. We missed the music, though we were seated next to the stage, so that may have been a blessing on a night when we really wanted to be able to talk. Our server (embarrassed that I didn't get his name) was excellent. He helped us to navigate the menu, made some recommendations at our request, and was accommodating to our requests (like lime for the surprisingly mediocre water; yeah, we're picky about water...). We ordered: * Guinness and steak pie with salad (a delicious pastry crust with steak, potatoes, mushrooms, and carrots in a brown sauce/gravy) * Cottage pie with fries (a typical shepherd's pie with mashed potatoes, ground meat, roasted vegetables, and gravy) * Fentiman's Ginger beer x2 (w/ lime) We settled on the pies as typical Irish cuisine, and they were tasty, abundant, and had a real stick-to-your-ribs quality. We finished it all but mostly out of determination and the fact that we did not have a way to reheat leftovers. If we were to do it again, we'd probably order the Guinness and steak pie and a meal size salad, then split the two. The ginger beer was light and not overly sweet; I found the lime a surprisingly nice accent (discovered on accident, as we had order lime for the water). The walk from the upper village was maybe 15 minutes or slightly less. Very pleasant on a cool, non-rainy fall evening.
