I think Cheddars is one of the best chain restaurants in Waco. The service is ok, but the food made here is better than its other locations in killeen and Austin. My family always orders the spinach dip for our app. The onions rings and chicken tenders are very good too. I haven't had a bad meal here. The restaurant is really good. I have eaten at a two other Cheddar's in the Dallas area and this is by far the best of the three. I recommend the salmon. It is a great deal and you know you don't eat enough fish. Also, I recommend the onion ring appetizer. Good service. Great food and portions at reasonable prices is hard to beat. Our wait for a table was short. Our waitress was attentive but it took about 45 minutes for our food to come. Two of the crescent rolls were cold and two were warm and fresh. We shared the fresh ones. My fork was dirty and my diet Dr Pepper was a Pepsi. Other than that we had a fantastic time. The fries were crispy on the outside and perfectly soft and squishy on the inside. My buffalo chicken tenders were amazing and I will for sure be dreaming about the queso for days to come. My husband had the Chicken Alfredo and coffee. He was pleasantly surprised. My mother-in-law had the fried shrimp and a margarita. She had no complaints. I came with the family for dinner. Needed a table for 4 and we were immediately seated! It's the little things. A server came to us shortly after being seated for our drink order. We all got water and it came out quickly. I decided to share food with my mom because I wasn't too hungry at the time and I know the portions here are pretty big. She ordered the chicken fried steak (sides: mashed potatoes with white gravy and green beans). Everything was good and enough for my mom and me but the green beans were a little too watery and sweet for me. My sister ordered the baked spasagna and this dish is PLENTIFUL. She ate maybe half of it and took the rest home. She enjoys this dish and it's her usual order here. My brother ordered the Philly cheesesteak (sides: fries). He said it was kind of dry but not bad, but he would not order it again. Leave the cheesesteaks to Philadelphia. We placed a to-go order for my brother who stayed at home and placed this order along with our food order. Our server brought out our check without placing this order because she forgot so we had to wait for the kitchen to make the food and bring it out. It was about a 10 minute wait. Talked hubby into going to Cheddar's for an early dinner yesterday around 4:45pm, based on a previous good experience I had a few months prior. Big mistake & sorry he relented to appease me. We ended up walking out due to not being acknowledged by anyone as we sat waiting to order. Here's the service negligence in order to help Cheddars improve: 1. Why were we sat in a room with large parties all around us? There were 3 parties of 20+ celebrating events. Seating a couple here was a poor decision in the 1st place. 2. Where is the follow through of the host staff to make sure parties they sat are greeted? If there is no bev nap/coaster/or water glass placed on table to signify the table has been acknowledged then someone needs to greet. 3. Why did none of the other servers in our section greet us when it was obvious we had been overlooked? We even pushed our menus as far off the table edge as possible to signify to someone, ANYONE, that we were ready to order, get drinks etc. Teamwork is obviously not in Cheddar's service philosophy. 4.Why did the manager never appear at our table after I approached hostess to send manager our way? 5. When we got up to walk out my husband wouldn't waste his time to discuss with front desk but I did stop, waiting for that manager that never made it to our table. While waiting I explained to the young male host that we were never greeted & that he should make sure tables are greeted & why would he seat us in a side room full with large parties? I did notice though when he greeted us he was directed by another hostess of where to seat us. A blond server stopped by the desk with a salad in her hand & apologized that she didn't see us & giving excuses as to she was busy yada, yada, yada. I don't care & don't waste anymore of my time. 6. The manager appeared in a blue dress shirt & I explained the failed dining experience. I finally couldn't take his apologies anymore & asked what his name was (he wasn't wearing a name badge)-something Michael should've done the moment he approached me. He told me he would talk to staff & take care of it & I kept the conversation going trying to teach him how to handle a situation such as this one. He didn't have a clue how to handle a negative customer experience. I finally couldn't take it & said "Michael, you just missed a huge opportunity to correct a negative customer experience such as this by not offering a meal on us in the future." He stated he didn't have any business cards because he was just filling in from the Harker Heights store. Really?! Is this how Cheddar's trains their management staff to respond? I couldn't believe my ears. I stood there dumbfounded & said "Michael, grab a bev nap & write it on the back & sign & date it." It's that simple. I walked out to join my fuming husband waiting in the car. To Cheddar's corporate-you need help. I was going to contact you through your website but then decided no. With such a disappointment in your customer service with just the start of our dining experience I can only imagine it would've gone even further downhill. We were told by the two hostesses who were not very professional and their communications that they no longer see people on the patio. It took well over 30 minutes for us to get our salads and when we got them our chicken was cold, like not like warm, COLD. They offered to make us another salad but by that time we had to leave to get back to work, so the manager offered us certificates instead. I just want to start by saying Cheddars food is so cheap and tastes good. You cannot beat the price. That's why I'm writing this review. I'm frustrated that every single time I go, there is food STUCK on every dish that comes to the table. It makes me want to throw up. My fiancé and I decided we were done after this Sunday-- We went and there was a spinach-like food stuck on our silverware, lipstick on the rim of my glass and cheese(?) stuck on my plate of my plate. Terrible terrible service. Went in for dinner with family and was ignored the entire time. Tried it again during lunch and had James as our server... even worse. Every table around us was filthy and the floors were disgusting. Food came out wrong. I had to get my own silverware, my own refills, had to get up and ask another server for a chip refill, and had to get up to get my own Togo box from the bartender. When he brought the check he admitted that he'd messed up the order. Didn't apologize, just let me know that he was the one who messed up and not the kitchen. Each and every time me and my family has visited Cheddar's we have been very pleased with their service, their prices and their big portions of food that they serve. No complaints here! The food at cheddars is always OK, and they have a good Variety. We chose it for a family reunion dinner. We talked to three different managers, and got three different stories on the large group policy. However, the overall message was that they are used to handling large groups, and that since we were showing up early, they would be able to seat us quickly. Just to emphasize, we let them know we were coming in a month ahead of time, the day before, the morning of, and sent someone to the restaurant a half hour before our dinner time (at their suggestion). When the time came, once half our group was present we let the manager know.... 1.5-2 hour wait. 5:30.... they were not that busy. They were also not very kind about it. Fortunately, we found another restaurant nearby, that was able to see this at the last minute, and had a great dinner. Very disappointed with this location. Had a party of 8, was told 30 min, 45 min later no table and no communication. My husband spoke with the host and he said they were waiting for a few large tables to leave and offered to split us up. We came together, so we wanted to eat together. Another 15 min passes and I went in and spoke with the hostess, asking if they could put two tables together and the host said they had already offered to split us. I told them they were wrong in making assumptions that customers will eat and leave, most groups will stay and visit. I told them to find us something, it had been an hour and five min. Now we are separated in two booths and can't visit. I'll never come here again. To top it off, the bathrooms are filthy, smell and have no soap. I wish I could give NO stars, but I can't. read more

My family drove into town to take my husbands 96 year old grandmother to lunch. It was a very HOT day so we called to see how long the wait would be to make sure we wouldn't have to stand outside. The hostess or whoever answered the phone I asked how long the wait was told me a short wait. I asked how long is a short wait? She said we are not allowed to say. I said 15min, 30 mins. Let me start off by saying wow. This was the worst service and food I have had in a very long time. This even tops my wife's food. First off the hostess was not the best. When told to sit us (a party of 6) she rolled her eyes and made it known it was an inconvenience for her. Once seated, there we sat for close to 15 minutes before we were greeted by our waiter. About 10 minutes after our appetizer had arrived he came around with our drinks. The glasses 3/4 full of sweet tea and the ice dang near melted. We finished off our appetizers and waited. The waiter finally popped his head around the corner and following was ice cream. He came to our table and stated that he was going to try and sell us some ice cream but nevermind. Then mumbled something as he walked away. I asked what he said and he said "oh nevermind". He did stop and say our food would be out shortly. We all sat and watched people come in, sit down, order, and eat. I finally had enough so I called for the manager. The manager along with the waiter showed up with our food. Alittle over an hour after being seated. I spoke with the manager and explained the entire story to her and she agreed it was not acceptable she stated she would fix it and make it right. We explained we didn't want handouts but would rather have a new waiter and this one gone from us. One person at the table ordered a chicken fried chicken. It came out hard as if it was fried for way to long. My wife had Montecristo it was cold. The rest of the food was fair but not for the original price. As we finished our food with our new waitress the old waiter shows up at our table and confronted us. He said he told his manager that he was learning alot and that he would like a second chance. Today I went in for today and just wanted side order of med steamed veggies. I literally waited 25 min. and finally went to the cashier / waitress and told her i needed to go back to work and if it wasn't ready she was going to have to give me my money back. Went a few weeks ago and not been around to post my review that I started after we left. It was my first time in about 10 years to visit. We got seated right away as it was starting to empty out when we arrived. It took about 10 minutes before the waitress came for drink orders. We got the spinach dip appetizer which is served with chips and delicious salsa that smacks down most Mexican restaurants salsa here. The chips were also nice and fresh. I ordered grilled salmon with bourbon glaze on top of a rice pilaf and coleslaw and broccoli cheese casserole sides. They served extra glaze on the side, which I'm glad they didn't smother on the salmon as the amount they put on it was just about perfect. The glaze itself was flavorful but really sweet. The salmon was a little more cooked than I'm used to, but I love sushi and sashimi so maybe I'm a little spoiled. The sides were great; cheesy broccoli and tangy creamy slaw...can't beat it. My bro had chicken fried steak, which he liked. It was a bit chewy for my tastes. We finished off with a monster cookie, which was really a highlight if the meal. The cookie was fresh from the oven and was made right--then topped with hot fudge and melty vanilla ice cream. Decadent. And for the price, 3.99, it was a good deal. The biggest downer of the experience was service. It was slow; yeah they were starting to clean as we were getting ready to leave, but when the manager came out to check on things, we asked him to refill our drinks and replace silverware that was dirty when we unwrapped it because it'd been so long since our waitress had appeared. At bill time, some other waitress grabbed my card and took it to the counter. I was like "ook..." 5 minutes later my card was still not back...I walked over to the counter and saw my card sitting on a ledge unattended. I've waitresses before, and if I'd ever done that my boss would have shot me. She apologized but that doesn't cut it. I'll probably go back, but not unless I have cash. I recently(3-25-18) visited Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen in Waco, TX with my family to celebrate my birthday. It had been a while since I had eaten at this restaurant and I was shocked how much it had declined. It took way too long for our waiter to come to our table to see if we had any questions or to take our order. I requested some limes for my tea when I placed my drink order and then had to ask him a couple more times for limes before he finally brought me some. Our waiter then disappeared for a while which meant we went without drink refills. When our food finally arrived my potato as well as my sister-in-law's were cold--the butter wouldn't even melt. Again, our waiter disappeared for a while leaving our drink glasses empty again. When I mentioned the cold potatoes he said they were aware of the problem and blaimed the problem on the order on when the food items were placed on the plate which I thought was a pretty weak excuse. My Mother-in-law asked the waiter to check the balances on a couple of gift cards she had and the waiter brought her the receipts on both cards. When she gave him the cards back to him to pay for her meal, he told her that she couldn't use the cards due to the restaurant being sold to another company and would have to pay for her meal in some other way. I sought out one of the managers and she apologized for the problem and resolved the problem right away. I told the manager I was very disappointed with our dinning experience as the restaurant had trash all over the floor not only around our table, but around many of the tables in the area where we were eating. Again, the manager apologized and blamed it on the change in ownership which again I thought was a very weak excuse. I don't think I will ever go back to Cheddar's again as there are too many other restaurants to choose from that have better food and atmosphere. read more

Went with a group of 9 on a Friday night 9/23/16. The wait for us for one hour. We saw groups of 5-6 get seated for an hour. We eventually asked the hostesses and they weren't the warmest bunch at all. I got a little tired of them somewhat barely acknowledging my mother questioning them about the wait. I thought we were waiting on a LONG table for our hour wait. We were the only people waiting consistently while others were seated within a few minutes. We get to our table and they put 3 tables together. Well going by this logic, we could have then been seated a long time ago. Not to mention they have cheapened their food up a bit and for your birthday, you no longer receive anything.
