I have hardly ever had a bad experience here. And the times I have were few and far between. The food portions are amazing for the price you pay. There have been times where I've been able to share a meal with my mom and we are still stuffed by the time we leave. I recently(3-25-18) visited Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen in Waco, TX with my family to celebrate my birthday. It had been a while since I had eaten at this restaurant and I was shocked how much it had declined. It took way too long for our waiter to come to our table to see if we had any questions or to take our order. I requested some limes for my tea when I placed my drink order and then had to ask him a couple more times for limes before he finally brought me some. Our waiter then disappeared for a while which meant we went without drink refills. When our food finally arrived my potato as well as my sister-in-law's were cold--the butter wouldn't even melt. Again, our waiter disappeared for a while leaving our drink glasses empty again. When I mentioned the cold potatoes he said they were aware of the problem and blaimed the problem on the order on when the food items were placed on the plate which I thought was a pretty weak excuse. My Mother-in-law asked the waiter to check the balances on a couple of gift cards she had and the waiter brought her the receipts on both cards. When she gave him the cards back to him to pay for her meal, he told her that she couldn't use the cards due to the restaurant being sold to another company and would have to pay for her meal in some other way. I sought out one of the managers and she apologized for the problem and resolved the problem right away. I told the manager I was very disappointed with our dinning experience as the restaurant had trash all over the floor not only around our table, but around many of the tables in the area where we were eating. Again, the manager apologized and blamed it on the change in ownership which again I thought was a very weak excuse. I don't think I will ever go back to Cheddar's again as there are too many other restaurants to choose from that have better food and atmosphere. read more

Went with a group of 9 on a Friday night 9/23/16. The wait for us for one hour. We saw groups of 5-6 get seated for an hour. We eventually asked the hostesses and they weren't the warmest bunch at all. I got a little tired of them somewhat barely acknowledging my mother questioning them about the wait. I thought we were waiting on a LONG table for our hour wait. We were the only people waiting consistently while others were seated within a few minutes. We get to our table and they put 3 tables together. Well going by this logic, we could have then been seated a long time ago. Not to mention they have cheapened their food up a bit and for your birthday, you no longer receive anything. You hear stories about bad service. But you think to yourself that can't be right. We went on a sat. Night Jan 7,2017. A group of 4. And received the worst service ever. We got seated ok. Maybe a 10 min wait. But our food took over an hour to get to us. Maybe a hour and a half. Our hostess was rude and disrespectful. Because in that hour of waiting the booth did get uncomfortable for a man my size. So I asked for a table. And she gave me attitude. The food was okay, I got the Lemon pepper chicken with mac & cheese and the broccoli casserole. The chicken was pretty dry and the rice it came on was pretty flavorless. Our waitress didnt offer any refills until we were basically done and she sat down right next to us at our table and we felt slightly uncomfortable. Cheddar's is a great restaurant! The food is consistently good and there is a good variety of options to choose from. The prices are great and this is a great value for the money. The salmon is great, the pasta dishes are excellent and the chips and queso are wonderful. Ate here Sunday December 9th for my birthday, with my daughter and grandchildren. Service was horrible. Food was good though. Our waitress tried to pull a fast one on me and I think I will not be back for quite sometime. I had a $25 gift card and gave the waitress 30 cash on a $41 bill. My granddaughter was acting up so my daughter was trying to get her out and my grandson had to go to the bathroom, I told the waitress to let me know what the difference was to make sure I was tipping her enough, since our table was in such chaos. She came back and tells me $3.21 I am like oh that is not enough tip so I gave her a $20 I guess she thought I was tipping her the whole $20 I told her no I needed change. By the time she came back I had time to think about the difference and realized it was $13 that she had left over not $3. I immediately mentioned to her that I did not think she was very honest since she had another $10, she said oh I was going to give that back to you. Really? Come on sweetie I don't believe that for one second. That experience has completely turned me off to Cheddars. read more

I absolutely love and adore this restaurant! I've tried almost all the sides and even basic corn is good! Spagnasgna was new and exciting, and I also had ribs once that were so tender I was able to just pick at it with a fork and it fell off. I'm saying I'm a fan...but there isn't anything really special about this place. The food is decent, but I can't say I've eaten anything that I would ever crave or couldn't get somewhere else. That being said, the inside is pretty especially for the prices. Great prices! I have a family of 7 and if we are all going out then I choose here cuz we can all eat for less than $60 (we just do waters if we all go, only 1 of my kids is young enough to order off of kids menu). They do have some interesting drinks on their menu and I think this is a great choice for younger couples out on a date. It's pretty and inexpensive with decent food. This place is really really good. Prices were rather reasonable for the amount of food you get. You really get tons of food. Only complain is my steak was really rare when I asked for medium. I was SO disappointed. We visited there for the first time a week or so ago and the food was delicious and the service was great. For that reason we went there again today for a late Mother's Day late lunch. We ordered exactly the same thing and both dishes were disappointing. I ordered a half-rack of ribs with chicken tenders. The last time I had them, they were GREAT - tender, fall off the bone, juicy. Best ribs I've had in years. Today, though, not so much. They were AWFUL. The rack was much smaller than before to start with, but the main disappointment was that they were dry and hard as a rock. I had to use a knife just to cut the meat into small enough pieces hoping to be able to chew. Even doing that I only managed to get through one rib. It was just too dry and hard to chew. The mac & cheese I got as a side was also disappointing - not warm at all and has a skin on it. It looked like it had been sitting around for awhile. My husband ordered the mac & cheese as well and his were the same. He ordered the chicken fried steak - also wonderful the last time, but not today. It wasn't tender like it was the last time and the breading was not very good and not crispy at all. The service wasn't awful, but I would say sluggish at best. It makes sense to me when bringing drink refills to one, to bring one for the other person if their glass is nearly empty. This didn't happen. When we asked for refills (which we didn't even have to do the last time we were there), the waitress would bring one glass, even though the other glass was also empty. This made no sense at all. Anyway, overall it was very disappointing. The meal cost the same as the last time we were there, but the portions were smaller and the food was very sub-par. I will probably try it one more time, only because it was so good the first time. But beyond that, I will be going elsewhere. Very sad....... read more

We stopped here after another restaurant had a ridiculous wait. I ordered the jambalaya pasta, even though my husband suggested I not order seafood from a chain in Waco. I should have listened because they served me raw shrimp in the dish. I told the waiter who took it back to the kitchen. I guess I was supposed to believe I was getting an entire new plate of food. However, the kitchen staff clearly put the (now) over cooked shrimp back on top of the pasta where raw shrimp previously laid. Since I didn't want food poisoning, I refrained from eating it. We eat here a lot. We ask for something special, such as no sour cream on top of spinach dip, but cooks in kitchen do as they wish. Food is not ever hot. Lukewarm each time. My family makes a trip to Cheddar's about every other month, and it is one of our default go-to places for eating out in Waco. They have a wide range of quality food and extremely affordable prices for what you get. I've tried many of the items on the menu and haven't gone wrong yet. If you've never had a Monte Cristo sandwich, this is a good place to try it. The Monte Cristo is essentially a ham, turkey, and cheese sandwich, deep fried in batter, laced with powdered sugar, and dunked in raspberry preserves--heavenly. My wife really enjoys the chicken pot pie and our kids love the catfish. We will also frequently get an appetizer of the beer battered onion rings which are perfectly fried and savory. The Philly Cheesesteak is about the only thing I have not been super thrilled about, but not because it was bad, just because it was not as good as Philly cheesesteaks I've had other places. I rarely drink alcohol, so I can't speak much about the bar, but we always get one of their fruit infused teas (which incidentally are made in the bar). They are among the best flavored teas I've ever had, likely because they use fruit puree to make the drink. Tea flavors include strawberry, peach, mango, or raspberry. You can also get lemonades with these flavors. The only down side of Cheddar's is the wait. It is almost always full, even on weekdays. So if you visit on a Friday or Saturday night (or even other times), be prepared for a bit of a wait. However, unlike other reviewers I don't count this against them in my rating because I see this as a positive sign of their consistent quality and ability to retain its clientele. On February 24, 2019, there was a fight inside the restaurant involving forty to fifty blacks. As reported by KXXV and KWTX news, there were two groups involved. It appeared to happen in mid afternoon and early evening. One with a rational mind would think that a fight normally occurs between two or three people. Or single angry customer would argue loudly with a restaurant employee. But this was not the case. This happened with forty to fifty people. I call it like I see it. I think this was a deliberate demonstration between participants. I believe it was planned ahead of time. I believe it was a staged event. It was something to get attention inside the restaurant. It might have been a retaliation by blacks because some black person got fired or similar. If this is the case, I would charge each with domestic terrorism. I, like many, find the behavior of those participating in the fights to be very despicable humans with no sense of civility. read more

I was traveling with a colleague this evening and we decided to give it a try. I noted that it only had three stars on yelp but we both commented that when we drive-by one of these places there always seems to be a lot of cars. Well three-stars seemed accurate. The food was just OK. I have a Caesar salad with a piece of salmon on top. The salmon was good but quite small, the salad was drenched in dressing. Tonight was a terrible experience and we always love coming to cheddars. Coincidentally we were in the Waco area and stopped in for dinner. To begin with the wait, there was 4 big open tables and we waited aprx. 45 minutes for 3 sets to be sat before us and NONE of those tables became occupied with those partys. It seemed like the hostess's were running the whole show and seemed to be young highschoolers. The food was not even close to the usual quality. Or quality at all. Pretty upsetting. Management really needs to start stepping in. The wait for food was about an hour and people who sat after us where receiving food before us. I waited 20 minutes on 1 beer. This place needs to gain some stability. There was at least 2 tables I overheard received entrees over appetizers. Portions were also WAY smaller than usual. Frequent guest at Cheddars in Waco. Everything including service was great as usual. As an appetizer, we ordered chips/salsa/and queso with taco beef added. We have not ordered the same appetizer in about 6 months. This time we ordered the quest and chips and all was great except for the salsa. It was horrible and bland. The salsa did appear fresh but it consisted of raw tomato pieces with chunks of diced raw onions, and a large dose of cilantro. Very disappointed in the salsa has changed. read more

Cheddar's is great. The food is the best bang for the buck in Waco. The service is good and the ambiance is nice. The massive stack of onion rings is worth the visit alone. Other wonderful dishes are the pot pie, shepherd's pie, beer battered shrimp (best fried shrimp I've ever had), nachos, and monte cristo (heart attack on a plate).
