Good food and a great place to meet family, friends or have a quick business lunch. There are a couple of large businesses in the Lafayette area. I have to come up here frequently because of work and this is a great meeting point for my co-workers and also to have lunch with customers. Every time I've been here the staff is always friendly and the food is consistent. Large menu of items to choose from and I've always enjoyed every meal I've had here. Great lunch specials as well. Would I go back? Definitely. This seems to be one of my consistent stops when I'm in Lafayette. Look forward to going back. read more

This was my late Father in Law's favorite restaurant in Lafayette. I went here with my Mother in Law after a visit to the Social Security office to apply for Survivor's benefits. Service was very good, food was very good, lots of menu selections so you can go easy or get a big meal. Mother in Law loved it, she took her time but no one rushed us. My only complaint was that the place was very very loud. I don't know if it was an issue with the clientele that day but seemed like endless screaming and cackling from behind us. read more

I'm not sure what changed between our first stop and this one, but this round was a bit underwhelming. Cheddar's was sold to the parent company of Olive Garden last year, so perhaps that has something to do with it. There's lots to like about Cheddar's: the ingredients are fresh and, when they say that their menu is "from scratch", I'm inclined to believe them. The decor and atmosphere are very nice - the big paddle fans and the wall-sized fish tank are nice touches. The service has been consistently great. On the down side, the beer list, which used to be quite good, and which included several nice local microbrews, has been dumbed down to the point of being truly ignorable. The ribs, which were great on our first visit, were dry and uninteresting this time. I remembered the coleslaw being really good on our first visit, but decidedly "meh" this time around. We were there with a party of five adults, and all ordered different foods. There wasn't really anything on the order that made anyone go "Wow, this is good!" Another small nit to pick. We were there for a birthday, and mentioned it to both the waitress and the hostess. The response was, "Oh, okay." We went considering switching to Cheddar's as our regular family birthday celebration venue, but all things considered, I think we stick to what we're used to. read more

I have been here on 4 different occasions for lunch and dinner and during the week and weekend. The food is made from scratch more so than the usual chain restos like chilis or applebees. The food selection is vast considering the resto. It has a southern flair to it and I enjoy that. The service and staff is always nice but not necessarily attentive. I only gave it three stars as all the occasions have been quite inconsistent from food quality, temperature and service. I may return if I have to, but it is not on the top of my list. read more

Cheddar's - an amalgamation of every other American restaurant out there: spacious dining room, large diverse menu, decent staff, and fair value. It's not my favorite establishment, but given choice between other bland restaurants, this bland restaurant provides some variety and best-in-class options. Onion ring appetizer is good, and at less than $5, a great deal. The combo deals include two sides, so more value there. The menu abounds with plenty of decent options: ribs, chicken fingers, burgers, mashed taters, mac-n-cheese, fries, etc... None of the food knocked my socks off, but it was average or above average. My scores: 1.0 non-recyclable take home container + 4.0 menu + 3.5 food quality + 4.5 service + 4.0 environment = four star rating. They do a nice job decorating for holidays. Near closing time, the staff was busy cleaning floors and washing windows. I like the large booths in the center of the restaurant over the seating in the side room. read more

Not sure why the low ratings, seems the Yelp tendency to get overly dramatic with minor issues holds an unfair cloud over this great place. Have been here three times with different people, each time a good variety of the menu ordered, tasty drinks and food - ended up happy we picked this spot! I'm guessing there might be a problem with some overwhelmed by the (pre-social distancing) massive menu. But in a twist, the current paper-limited menu offers an easy and streamlined way to figure out what to get. I've sampled quite a bit and found nothing wrong with anything so far! My friend gets the chicken tenders every time he visits a Cheddar's - myself and another both agreed the Monte Cristo is a work of genius. I'm personally happy to see a proper cocktail (the Painkiller) given a decent mix up. It doesn't seem to be perfected with fresh squeezed juices but it goes down real well and has been well balanced both times I got it. We came to Cheddar's pretty late on a Friday night 10pm and instead of being turned away we were treated like Royalty! We were seated immediately and brought some delicious croissants with icing. The staff was exceptional! Very friendly and inviting! Talk about Great Service! In the WL market waiting 35-45 minutes is stad queue. Sometimes this drives us home... at a 45 minute drive we can be home eat locally. This restaurant is exception. We sometimes drive to event early to share a meal here. Service is great the 4x times we have come here and the value/diversity of menu make a group meal always positive. The chicken tenders for example are huge. The Spasagna is personal favorite and the salads are big enough for two. The house salad is healthy size and includes eggs, cheese and vegetables.... porkchop on the bone is also menu item worth returning for. read more

I ordered the ribeye steak (medium) with broccoli and Mac & Cheese. The steak was flavorful but a tad bit dry, the Mac was very bland, and the broccoli was good. Service - I left my card at the bar and called back when I noticed. The hostess to me I could come and check to see if I left it. I insisted that she check before I drive back to the restaurant. I was placed on a brief hold for her to tell me they didn't have my card. I knew I left it there so I drove back for the bartender to have it waiting for me. I truly believe the hostess did not even attempt to provide good customer service. Overall - the experience was average at best. read more

Went for a friend's birthday. Waited forever for drinks. Waitress named Tonya repeatedly rolled her eyes at my husband while he was ordering. He asked for extra cheese with his Caesar salad, they brought him cheddar cheese. Another member of our party asked for her salad with no croutons. It came with croutons and FROZEN. Our entrees finally arrived. The same girl with the frozen salad ordered a steak. Medium rare. The steak came medium well. We told the waitress it was overdone. She rolled her eyes, grunted, and said "fine". The cook came out to ask us about the steak and she was awesome! Super friendly, asked us if we wanted a new one. She rocked. This place isn't bad, but it's also not my favorite. I don't like that they don't specialize in anything. They seem to have a little bit of everything on the menu and when restaurants do things like that, the food suffers. I've been here twice, and without knowing it, I got the same thing twice because it was one of the most appealing things on the menu. I normally get grilled chicken and rice. They do give you a hearty portion of chicken, but the sides are pretty skimpy. The prices are pretty low, which is a plus and it's not a terrible meal out, but for the same price or slightly more you can get higher quality food elsewhere. read more

I am shocked by the 3 star rating for this restaurant. All of their food is made from scratch and tastes delicious. And the prices are lower than most other chain restaurants. I always get the croissants they are delicious. They fall apart and are full of sweet buttery goodness. We always get the homemade onion rings which are out of this world. Even though the exit was closed we back tracked to Cheddar's. Didn't get the curds due to an earlier review. The cheddar with meat and chips were pretty tasty. The wait for the food was dreadful. I ordered the chicken fingers. And it was real satisfying. I shared some with the kids because the portion was quite large. Hubby got the monte cristo and again very large. The coleslaw was real yummy. I recommend this place. As for going out of your way on a road trip, where time is somewhat precious and it takes over 2 hours for lunch....feel free to pick somewhere else. Good flavor just thick. Cheese could have been solid if weren't over fried. For dinner had the blackened Salmon and shrimp. It was good and broccoli cheese casserole was good too. Rice benefited from the flavors from the fish. This was probably the best dish we ordered. I had the salmon with rice and coleslaw. Bland flavors and over cooked fish. Rice had no flavor. Bourbon pork chop was good flavor over cooked. Mashed potatoes were good. Coleslaw was bland. Smokehouse burger was good not great. Flavors just were not very deep. Okay, so I've tried this place twice now...once with my family for dinner, and once by myself for lunch. Both times I have had the misfortune of having the same server. Today she was serving as bartender (I was trying to get a quick lunch). She is uniquely unqualified as a bartender. She's not attentive, not good interpersonally...and frankly doesn't seem very enthusiatic or happy to serve. Then it's on to the extraordinarily slow kitchen service. Trying to get a burger during a not particularly busy lunch service...20-25 minutes. When you look around the restaurant you see multiple small groups of employees standing around talking amongst themselves. There's no hustle, no "we're the new place in town, and we're going to knock your socks off," attitude. It's almost as if whomever did the hiring was looking for flat affects, lack of hustle, and especially, do not smile and be outgoing and friendly. If you like slow and sullen give it a try, if not, find somewhere else to spend your money. read more

Can you say growing pains? This new-to-Lafayette location opened up a week ago; it's so new that it's not even listed on the Cheddar's website. My wife was telling me about this place a couple of weeks ago, so we decided to give it a try. Sitting on Lafayette's 'Restaurant Row' on State Road 26, we arrived around 8:30 on a Saturday night. As we walked in, the place was pretty full, but we were told there was no wait in the dining room, or we could go into the bar and someone would follow us with menus. The hosts didn't seem interested in seating us, so my wife and I walked into the bar and found a booth. And we noticed that no one followed us with menus. While sitting, several servers passed by, one with menus and looked right at us. My wife, who had waited tables for many years, was ready to grab menus and go back and get our drinks. After 10 minutes, our server comes by and apologizes about the wait, that she's working at another restaurant in the morning, and Cheddar's at night and HAD to go pee. Lucky us! My wife explained that she was upset at the lack of teamwork displayed by the hosts and servers and that someone should have been covering for her. We placed our orders: spinach dip for an appetizer, baked whitefish on rice and spring mix for my wife, and chicken pot pie and side salad for me. The salad came out pretty quickly. There was nothing too exciting about the salad, except it came with a hot croissant with melted honey butter. It's been a while since I've been to a Cheddar's, and I don't remember croissants. This thing was like crack, I could eat a dozen and not even blink. When our meals came out, I ordered three more of the things. The fish was seasoned and placed on a bed of rice, with the spring mix salad with a vinaigrette dressing on the same plate. My wife said the fish was a bit spicy for her, but most folks in this part of the country think mild is too hot. The pot pie came in a soup bowl. The crust was flaky, but was sticking to the rim. I love crust, and will peel it off the rim of the bowl. This crust was stuck to the rim, and my attempts at peeling it off only made it crumble. The pot pie was meaty, with peas and carrots in a tasty, creamy filling. My wife preferred this to Cracker Barrel's chicken pot pie, but I prefer Cracker Barrel's because they use larger chunks of vegetables. I hope this location is just suffering from opening growing pains. Normally when a new chain restaurant opens, there are managers and trainers everywhere, greeting customers and basically making a nuisance of themselves. Not here, we only saw one person who looked like management, and they walked quickly past us and spent a few minutes chatting at the host station. This Cheddar's has a lot of potential, but Lafayette has a reputation of chain restaurants with sub-par service. I wish them luck as I like their burgers. read more

I'm lost as to why this place has such a good hype around town, maybe people have "lowered expectations"(singing from Mad TV). Every food item on our table was very greasy and lacked anything special. My friend's club sandwich slipped from her hands twice, no joke. My chicken fried steak was mostly fried breading that I cut into. Service was ok. My seat had food on it when I sat down and it did take a while until we were greeted by our server. Have visited here several times and basing my first review on my 04/11/18 visit, which was a Wednesday evening around 6:15 PM. We were welcomed at the door and seated promptly. We didn't have to wait long for our server to visit and he was pleasant and courteous. I enjoyed this visit more so than some of my others - the service and food pretty good. Not really a wait, which I like. Visit on a weekend and it can be pretty busy! I would visit here again on a weeknight. read more

We had a wonderful experience at Cheddar's in Bloomington last week, and assumed we'd expect the same at Lafayette and WHOA - were we disappointed. The service and the attitude of the manager was abominable - very bad. The restaurant at about 3:30 pm was about 15 percent full, and it took 15 minutes for someone to even come to our table, and another 10 minutes once drink / bar order was put in to get our drinks. A major service issue occurred, and the wait staff completely mishandled, as did the manager - the server was completely over-her-head with the task and after the incident occurred, the manager did nothing to assist, and never came back to us to introduce the person she reassigned to serve us, after we were forced to move ourselves with our increasingly getting-cold food, to another table - this manager should be fired. The food was very good, but unfortunately, the entire experience soured by the horrendous customer service. The manager never once came back to see if things had recovered - nothing. I'll never go back to this Cheddar's (I live in Indiana part-time and travel central Indiana extensively), and may not visit the chain again, if this is the kind of inhospitable and inept staff and managers the chain employs. The service, with again the restaurant at 15% capacity, was deplorable. read more

We visited Lafayette to meet up with a friend I've had since early childhood. Having been a vegetarian for about a year now, I always get a bit worried about finding vegetarian options in Indiana. Cheddar's, though, is a chain, so thankfully, they had a few options to suit someone like me. The restaurant is fairly large, with plenty of seating. Service was polite and attentive, even with a fairly hyper young child that my friend brought with her. (She's a kid! I don't fault her for her energy!) I do wonder, though, if the hostess ever feels a bit dead inside after greeting every new person with "Hello, and welcome to Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen"...it's clearly something she's forced to say, and I know it'd start to grate on my nerves, were I in her position. (I used to have to push store credit cards on customers when working retail. I hated, hated, hated doing that, so I guess that colors my view of the corporately-mandated phrases that staff are forced to say.) But if she did hate saying it, she certainly didn't show it. I was fairly impressed with the food. I hope that Darden doesn't completely destroy any of the good aspects of the food, because...well, Olive Garden, y'know. Anyway. Prices were great, especially for the amount of food you get! I ordered the vegetable plate with a baked potato, broccoli cheese casserole, corn, and mac and cheese. Huge, really - this was for lunch, so I barely needed dinner after that... My friend got a ribs and shrimp combo, my husband got a steak (I think?), and my friend's daughter got the chicken tenders kids' meal. All of us walked out of there happy and stuffed. (The quick walk around the mall helped burn off all of the cheese calories I ingested, I hope.) Every time I finished my root beer, the server offered to top it off. (I never get Barq's, especially living where I live now, so I always accepted.) Chain restaurants can be hit-and-miss, but I really liked this place. I could entertain you with stories of our last several visits (well over a year ago) but the last straw was being served a raw (I don't mean "rare" but full blown uncooked) hamburger and hairy onion rings at the same meal, after waiting an hour and twenty minutes for our order to be prepared. Management was apologetic and offered me a coupon for a free appetizer. I smiled politely, left a twenty for their trouble, then walked my family out for the last time. I went with a friend who really enjoys eating there. It was so-so to me. She suggested we start with their honey butter croissants. They were very dry and tasteless. We also had an order of onion rings. They were very good. She took them home to feel the birds, the croissants. Since it was advertised as home cooking, I had the country fried steak. I did not enjoy the breading and it fell off. The steak was ok. My friend always has the Monte Cristo she loved it with extra jam. I can tolerate any restaurant as long as they serve Diet Coke so I was okay. Service was very spotty. I like my server to least keep my glass filled or bring me one before I ask.
