Love the complimentary beginners! We just happened to be hungry on our way to Chicago and decided to stop at the next place we could. Luckily for us, it was Trish's Red Bird cafe. We ordered the blueberry hush puppies and were hooked. We enjoyed our meal so much, we made our a point to stop again on our way home. Service was very friendly, amazing food! What a cute little small town diner! Just off of I 65 makes it a quick easy stop for travels and it's very popular with the local community as well. A girlfriend and I went for breakfast and stayed almost thru lunch service. All the while, service continued and they kept telling us no rush! Stay as long as you like! The food was really good and we both felt like it was a good value. read more

Came for dinner on the only night it's offered: Friday. Couldn't resist ordering the Prime Rib. It came with two sides and was priced well below Mountain Jack's and well well below Boiler House Prime. And it was far better quality than both. My date had the turkey club on a Kaiser bun, which was basically just a turkey sandwich with bacon. He said the fries were fabulous. Cute place. Reasonably priced. We'll be back! read more

Stopped in for lunch on a Saturday afternoon the wait to be seated wasn't long, but the wait to order was 45 mins. Something that stuck out to me was 3 of the workers I asked didnt even eat and the wait staff lacked in knowing about the items. I got the battered chicken tenders and onion rings with green beans. My food was a little grease for my liking and my Greenpeace were a little too peppery for me. My husband got the breakfast burger and sweet potatoe fries with the battered Brussel sprouts. it was 3 out of 5 the sweet potato fries and the Brussel sprouts were the best thing we had. We got cinnamon rolls to go and tryed them in the car they were right out the oven I'd say a 3 out of 5 and the beginets were not beginets they were biscuit like tossed in cinnamon every thing was very greasy read more

The resturant itself is vey quaint. Very clean . The atmosphere was very homey. Staff very helpful. We were seated right away . Beverage order taken. The menu offers a variety of interesting items. Our order was taken and while we waited was given beignets. The beignets were more like fried biscuits but they were very nice, warm on inside crispy and sugary on the outside. Orders were 1/2 order sausage gravy with American fries. Scrambled eggs with American fries. Eggs over easy , hash browns bacon ordered extra crispy. The sausage gravy was good but not sure what it was served over I thought it would be a biscuit but seemed more like a piece of hamburger bun. Gravy was good. Bun not so much. Was very disappointed in finding out my American fries were more like crispy potato chips. They were tasty but not what I had anticipated for breakfast. Scrambled eggs were good but again disappointed in what they call American fries. The over easy eggs were excellent as was the hash browns, the bacon however was not crispy at all very floppy . Our service was excellent. Will probably try them again as I saw several other things on menu I would like to try. Probably not for breakfast, many other great places for breakfast I was disappointed as were my guests. It was just ok. Hopefully other items on menu will prove better next time. read more

I don't even remember how I discovered it, but we were looking for a breakfast place on the way from Indy to Lafayette and this turned out to be the perfect place. As a Ball State alum, I am down with all the red bird decor. The breakfast menu is simple but mighty. I loved that they had a choice between sausage gravy and pepper gravy. I'm not a big meat eater so I usually pick the sausage out of the gravy, so pepper gravy is perfect for me. It also was a perfect serving size too. I finished my whole plate without being overstuffed. Plus, they bring you a biscuit beignet as you wait for your meal. The servers were friendly and this was just a cool, local place to stop. read more

If you are ever in this area, you must stop by here. The murals on the sides of the cafe are really beautiful to start out with. Then when you walk in you are welcome like family. Once seated I was greeted again and had my drink order taken. The coffee here is really good. Anyway, I was toying with the thought of getting the small order of beignets, but wasn't sure. So the serves told me I can get one courtesy beignet. That's all I was looking for, just a small sweet thing. It was delicious, but more a biscuit than a beignet. Regardless, it is doughy goodness rolled in cinnamon sugar and that hits the spot. For my main meal I chose the Hunka, which is an English muffin topped with all 3 breakfast meats (ham, bacon, sausage), eggs done your way and cheese. This is served with tater tots. Wow... not only was this a heavenly combination, but the English muffin had just a tiny little crisp edge surrounding it and was buttery soft on the inside. Perfection... yeah, I'm a consistency gal. Which brings me to the tater tots, which were also crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. I appreciate that sooo much. Wish I could have eaten more, but while it doesn't look like much, it sure is filling. And let's not forget that I was asked multiple times how I liked it and if I needed anything. Maybe a bed to take a nap on, but other than that I am well taken care off. Payment is at the counter near the entrance, where you can also purchase all kinds of merch. read more

Great lunch stop!!! The diner is VERY clean, no greasy smell like a lot of diners. The food was very good and reasonably priced. I had the prime rib sandwich with a side of fried mushroom slices and only $10.00. It was a daily special . Great choice! Our waitress, Michelle was spot on with service. We arrived just after two large parties and she warned us that our order would take a bit longer but she even brought us some complimentary beignets. The wait was pleasant and she kept our drinks refreshed. I will definitely stop here again. read more

We had brunch at 9a and it was wonderful! Our waitress was helpful and attentive. My meal was 2 eggs, hash brown and an English muffin with a bottomless cup of coffee all for under $11 dollars (not including the tip) We were also offered complimentary beignets. Visually this is an adorable cafe; art work, merchandise and happy employees. Not to be overlooked, cleanliness. My hope is to return to try their reuben that looked amazing. read more

Stopped here on our road trip, and we are so glad that we did. The food was amazing, the staff were incredible, and the decor was cute and so thoughtful. It was great for our kid - they had coloring and a cute divided plate for kids' meals. We had loaded hash browns, and a farmers breakfast with a side of biscuits and sausage gravy. Dude. I mean. Go here. I met the owner/chef quite a few years ago when she was first opening this precious place...although she probably wouldn't remember me ... but listening to her talk about her dream back then I knew it would be a HIT. I'm sorry it took me so long to visit. Upon entry into the foyer I knew I wanted this woman to redecorate my house. SO COUNTRY CHIC! Into the restaurant we go. So incredibly clean and open and bright...those are the first thoughts I have. We had to look over our shoulders behind us to see the 'merch', which I appreciate wasn't shoved in my face as soon as I walked in. But I WANTED TO BUT IT AAAAAALLLLL!! It wasn't crowded at all (8am on a Saturday) Our hostess was gracious and professional and home-town. She took us to our seat by the window. I couldn't take my eyes off the decor!!!! The table was SO CLEAN! I appreciate that! Our server, Shayla, was an absolute dream. She was so nice. The perfect amount of attentive. Not pushy. So kind. Funny. We LOVED her. She probably thought I was a crazy lady because I couldn't stop taking pictures of this place!!! Ok, before I continue, y'all should know this place serves lunch and breakfast menu all day. My god I wish this place was around when my son was 7 and ONLY ATE CHEESE BURGERS!!! Anyway... the breakfast menu is arranged in a way that really makes it easy to create your own perfect plate. Eggs Your Way. Omelet Your Way etc. The coffee is really yummy. That needs its own shout out. Some hole in the walls (this is NOT a hole in the wall but not a place you're expecting a great great coffee) do not have good coffee. Tricia DOES. I ordered eggs my way...scrambled add American cheese...comes with Hashbrowns and toast. I got a side of bacon...crispy...as well. Hubs got Omelet your way which also came with Hashbrown and toast. Mother of all that is good and pure...if those eggs weren't scrambled to PERFECTION!! I'm not kidding. These were NOT eggs scrambled at 4am and put in a warming dish to serve whenever someone wanted them. My eggs were scram and cooked when I ordered them I KNOW it! They were delicate and creamy and beautiful. Absolutely the best scrambled eggs I've had in ALL OF LAFAYETTE. No joke. How is this place on the cusp of Dayton Indiana?!?! My bacon was perfect. The toast is delicious. I think they may toast it on the flattop. Whatever, Tric, DONT CHANGE IT!! Another fantastic fact is they have adult beverages!! Mimosas! Iced adult coffee (and non alcoholic iced coffee) beer and wine and specialty drinks!!! This is my number one, absolute favorite place to come for breakfast and I'll be returning SOOOOON for a taste of those delicious sounding, home cooked dinners and lunches. Delicious sounding salads too!! I can only guess it's homemade dressings which are always the best!!! read more

Fast, friendly service. Tasty meal sizes. Great atmosphere and location. Because I've been reviewing too many restaurants on Yelp, I've had to go on a low-carb diet. Red Bird was very accommodating to my needs without so much as an eye-roll! I'll go back for sure next time I'm in town. read more

What a great find! Stopped by here for lunch on my way up to Chicago a few months ago, and it did not disappoint. Seems to be a popular local spot and a great option if you want something different than the standard fast food joint you find off every highway exit. The restaurant is clean and has the kind of personal touches you would expect from a mom-and-pop café. Staff and servers were fun, friendly, and informal in all the best ways. In particular, my date and I enjoyed a salad and a wrap for lunch. Our food was out plenty fast and everything was fresh and tasty. I truly hope we get to visit this spot again sometime soon! read more

Visited for a late breakfast/early lunch on a Saturday. I have been wanting to try this place forever and I wasn't disappointed. First - you can have a cocktail with your brunch. That's handy!!! The service was fabulous - couple of different ones doing various things. The atmosphere is to me a cross between a family restaurant and a cafe. It's so nice Dayton has an eatery this nice - home style service, homemade food, and perhaps a thing or two you've never had - like the breakfast soup read more

I stoped in here on my way back to Ohio for a late lunch. I was greeted and seated quietly by a very friendly lady. I quickly gave a drink and food order because I tried and hungry. My ice tea came quickly and then out of know where came an amazing treat. I think she called it a beignet. ( after leaving I was mad at myself for not getting some to go to share at home.) my order of a Buffalo chicken wrap was delivered shortly after. After eat half I realized I hadn't taken a picture yet, so the pic is only half along with my fried mushrooms that were freshly hand battered and absolutely amazing. I've passed by this exit several other times and mad that I hadn't stopped in sooner. Highly recommend this place for great food, fast & friendly service. Plus super close to the interstate exit. I always love supporting small business! read more

On our way to Chicago, we needed to stop to have a bite to eat. My sister found a restaurant right along the highway that had a good selection of food. When arrived around lunch time and the place was packed (indeed, a good sign). The staff was accommodating and since there were no available seats, they seated us their Nest Room. Some of my family members ordered breakfast food, but I ordered the Pulled Pork sandwich with the side of the broccoli, both of which were delicious. Also want to give a shout-out to the cilantro lime rice -- *highly* recommend it. Given that there were five of us, we all got meals and a slice of pie, the prices were very reasonable. read more

This place is the epitome of what great customer service should be. The owner, Trish Brown, works there, too. She has such good energy that you will leave there in a positive mood. We all enjoyed our food. They have lots of options, even gluten-free toast, which is a win for me. If you like hot sauce, they have Frank's, which is my favorite, and nobody else has. Kid friendly with new crayons to color with along with a cute little basket of dinosaurs and trains. We will definitely be back the next time we are in the area. read more

She came by several times to give us an update on our food. I ordered the meatloaf and my wife had chicken and noodles over mashed potatoes. Both were very good. I also had the broccoli and cheese soup and it was tasty. My wife had the green beans and she said they were the best she's had. We thought about getting dessert but we were both filled up.
