This place has always had the best nachos! And in case you didn't know, they make their own nacho chips! This was my first time back since the new ownership and not much changed. Place was still packed per usual. The only thing I did notice was that they had less staff perhaps. It took a while to get refills on water if you were sitting at a table. I love that they have TVs that show games, old movies and so much more! They also have those cool garage doors which they open when it's nice out. It's not a dive. It's a "Texas" themed bar where the bartender could not find the Shiner. I imagine at one time it could have been more authentic like, when it was owned by the previous owners. Today, you would be better off with really great Tex Mex from Chuy's just down the street. Yes, Chuy's the chain is a real Tex Mex restaurant. This is a simple yuppy bar, with simple young "bartenders" (3) struggling to look you in the as the run past you to do nothing. There has been a bar at the corner of Sixth and Salem Streets since the Speakeasy Era. The Dive is the latest and is a great example of a dive bar. The bar's owners are relatively new so the menu is small but features pub favorites and Tex Mex. Chicken flautas were the special that night and were delicious. Visited today for lunch around Noon. A nice sized crowd. I found my seat easily and was promptly served. I ordered the cheeseburger, based on the old Clubhouse's Hand Spanked Burger. The meat was cooked perfectly and there was plenty of bacon added to it. The fries were hot and had a seasoning on them that added to the flavor. Traditionally I enjoy a good "dive bar" and this one fits the bill. It is just a few notches below a sports bar due to the taxidermies on the wall. We stopped in on a Monday afternoon, around lunch time, specifically for the "in honor of the Kooler Keg" tenderloin. Man, was I woefully disappointed. The breading was not cracker crumb, but cornmeal. My tenderloin had hot spots in it, as it it was been cooked in oil after an order of jalapeño poppers. I had upgraded to onion rings but they were burnt. Sadly this was not the tenderloin I as searching for; a replacement for my beloved Kooler Keg. read more

We've been here a few times now during recruiting seasons. Food is good and bartenders are too. Very friendly. I've gotten the burrito a couple times now and been happy with it both times. My husband likes the beef enchiladas and said the flavor is good on his as well. The bartenders have always been friendly and can carry on a convo. The place itself definitely gives off the 'dive' feel but in a good way. We really like the roll up doors with the screen. Weather was great so they were open. All in all we come back here for a bevy and meal about 1-2 times a year and will continue to come back. read more

I'll begin by saying that my wife and I argued over this review when I told her that I was hardly impressed after leaving here. Sure, the food was OK, but getting it (and drinks) was like an act of Congress. If I had my way, this place would barely get two stars. But, my wife made some points that were important for her, and she's also a tough customer. So here it goes... There's a certain irony about this place naming and patterning itself after a Texas landmark -- the lack of service here. Texas' motto is 'friendship,' and the word 'friendly' is derived from the same word (friend). Service here on our visit was anything but friendly. In fact, our server barely came around ... and when she did, she quickly darted to the adjacent table (who had questions about a beer) in the middle of my father giving his order. It got to the point that the manager had to step in and take care of our table. Back to that in a minute... This place is definitely divey, but not in a Sixth Street (Austin) type of way. If you've been to Sixth Street, you know that the divey places are just that. But this place is more 'Disney' divey. No biggie. The food here is actually pretty good. The salsa was surprisingly Texas, as was the queso. Though fried pork loin (the reason I came here) is hardly a Texas thing (we're a fried beef state), it was good ... served hot and fresh. But if you're looking for sweet tea -- also a Texas staple -- it ain't happening here. And if you get the same waitress we had the misfortune of having, she'll let you know that in a curt tone -- as if she's heard the question a thousand times and is tired of answering it. Want any salad dressing here other than ranch or bleu cheese? Forget it. The manager himself told us "We used to have other dressings but they didn't sell." So apparently, a couple of bucks worth of Italian or Thousand Island is too much for these folks. Should you come here at least once? Perhaps. But don't expect good service ... even if you're a student who's looking to get his drunk on. That said, I'm willing to bet that there are other superior joints in West Lafayette, for food, drink and good times. And the whole Texas thing here? Don't buy it. We're better than that. read more

Four stars because of the wings! Dropped by at somewhat of an odd lunch hour one Monday. We got their $12 wings (10 pieces) with Dive sauce and blue cheese as a side sauce. We also tried out their chicken burrito. Now, the burrito was very disappointing. Just bland, and all the chicken seemed to have ended up on one side of the burrito. Will not be getting this again. However, the wings were divine. In fact, a week later we went back to get more. The sauce has a unique taste (and you can get extra on the side). Very juicy. $12 is a little hefty for an appetizer but there's a good portion of wings and it can easily be shared between two. Try the wings :) read more

I get here about once a year. The food is always excellent. I know it's a dive bar, but they have the *best* chef/kitchen in all of greater Lafayette. Better than much, much more expensive and haughty places. Housemade tortilla chips with a little heft, queso that oozes flavor, guac perfectly salted, pork and avocado tacos with great sauces to complement them. They really know what they're doing when it comes to food. And the rum punch (aka Bay Breeze) is refreshing too. read more

We visited Sixth Street Dive recently with friends. It's truly a dive bar feel but the food is fresh and delicious! It's easy on the pocket book as well. The drinks are well made and it's a fun atmosphere. Service was interesting. We started with one waitress who was fun and attentive but then we had another one who seemed annoyed to be waiting on us. I don't think this is a place you go and expect to be blown away with service though. Go for the food. The catfish was incredible and the burgers are huge! We will definitely go back. read more

Went to the soft opening of the new ownership. Old dive food quality appears to be back. Dive sauce is back for a charge. No shoestring fries yet but they are coming. Staff is friendly and pretty attentive. The atmosphere is good. Tenderloin and nachos were on point. Overall it's like the old dive with higher beer prices.
