This is very much a dive bar, if this is your first time going know that everyone at the bar is a frequent customer. The food was very very good. The tenderloin was crunchy and thin, didn't taste like your boring frozen sandwich. The homemade chips outshined the pretzel, but both were very good. Nacho cheese is spicy which was good, beer cheese was okay. Apparently don't ask for a knife to cut the sandwich if you're a male, unwritten rules lol. We dropped in in the middle of some Lafayette festival or another and were nevertheless seated promptly in the relatively spacious dining room. The decor is fun, with a couple of porta potties serving as the bathroom doors. Our waitress was that great blend of friendliness, knowledgeability and not being overattentive. Saturday morning breakfast. Served 8-11am. It was really good. Best biscuits and gravy I've had in town. Fluffy biscuit and very well seasoned gravy. Delicious. I really liked their hash browns too. They had some diced green pepper and were crispy. I recommend stopping by for breakfast. The Bloody Mary was good, not too spicy. The service was good. I really like the wings, maybe it's because it was delivered but I just really didn't like the chips or fries. It wasn't just the texture though. I felt like the taste was really bland. I will definitely buy again just for the wings. Came to town to visit my son. This is now a staple of our trips to Lafayette and Purdue. A wonderful combination of some great food(very clever combinations) a fun atmosphere, and great friendly service. I'd tell you what I'd recommend but I've never had anything bad there. Loved the cheese curds. Great burgers, but you really can't go wrong and I won't say this about many other places but the trip just isn't complete without a trip to their bathrooms. I ordered a mushroom Swiss burger with where onion rings and two prime burgers with fried pickles all all of which we're supposed to be cooked to a medium doneness. However, none of the burgers were cooked to order. In fact, they were medium rare if not rare, the onion rings were slimy, the fried pickles were way too salty, and I'm pretty sure the bacon was barely cooked as well. My mom and I sat down and grabbed a couple Zombie Dusts. Truly are one of the greatest IPAs I've ever had and I've drank and tried a lot of them. We waited roughly 15 minutes on our food after ordering the Baja Fish Tacos and Reuben Sandwich with some fries on the side. I've had a taco and a bite of the Rueben my mom so willingly had to share, so far and this is insanely good. At first I thought my fish was a little unseasoned, but the flavors started bursting as soon as I got to the middle of my taco. Not only here at this comfortable place, but from now on I'll be ordering fish tacos wherever they're available since it was a great first time trying them. DT Kirby's is a perfect random mix of a dive bar and a restaurant. The clientele is a bit on the younger side (mid 20's) so you will have a very lively experience. I want to emphasize 2 things: 1. When I go this establishment ALONE, the experience at the bar with the woman bartender with grey hair is alright. BUT whenever I go with my African American friend, the service and experience takes a massive nosedive from alright to disrespectful. (Not accusing anyone of racism but it is a very noticeable change in service when my African American friend is present) 2. LITERALLY EVERY OTHER BARTENDER THERE HAS TREATED US LIKE NORMAL PAYING CUSTOMERS BESIDES THIS WOMAN. Every time WE come here, the women bartender with grey hair, uses a demeaning and condescending tone highlighted by her constantly rolling her eyes. She ignores us for the first 5 minutes of our arrival no matter if it's dead or busy, and constantly makes these rude facial expressions towards us. Literally EVERY TIME we go together, we always catch her giving us some sort of scowl. It is so noticeable, part of me wonders if she even realizes she is doing it. Whoever this bartender is, professionalism is not a word in their vocabulary. And look I get it, bartenders like to interact with their regulars more than just some random pair of dudes, but at a certain point shouldn't we be afforded some decency instead of being treated worse than an afterthought? I don't know why, but from the first time we ever went to now, she's always had this weird, rude attitude toward us. AND ITS JUST HER SPECIFIALLY!!! The other bartenders there, such as the male who always wears the cap, and the manager have always been very cordial with us. Even the wait staff have always been nice to us, such as the male with the sleeveless T-Shirts, ITS LITERALLY JUST THIS GREY HAIRED WOMAN BARTENDER WHO TREATS US SO NEGITAVELY. The woman bartender with the grey hair, it's like she has some maliciousness towards us for some reason, ever since the first time we came here. It is so off-putting and almost comical, I just can't believe someone who looks to be in their early 40's could be so immature. DT's is a nice little pub. The restaurant is set in an old building. I love the brick, hard wood floors and industrial look. I wasn't fond of the portapotty entry ways to the rest rooms. Maybe that's okay for a bar...but not a fan. We ate late on a Saturday evening. The waiter warned us that service and the kitchen would be slow. I appreciated the honestly. This gentleman hustled his tail off, as did the others, to help make things better. I had a SoCo and waters. The drink was served in a tall glass with a nice amount of ice and alcohol. The waiter hustled to keep the drinks coming the best he could. We had an appetizer diner. I had the Thai-1-On wings. I was expecting an Aisian Zing type sauce. I was pleased with a Thai peanut style sauce. The wings were large as advertised and the sauce was very good if you like a mild peanut sauce flavor. The pretzel and cheese was a hit. The pretzel was soft and large enough to share. The cheese didn't have any dramatic flavor but it didn't just come out of a can either. The fried pickles were interesting. They appear to have taken a dill spear and cut it into small pieces. The fried breading was thin, crunchy but salty - to salty for me. The dip was a nice chipotle style flavor. Many of the chips were small enough that it was difficult to dip them. In the past I've had their burgers and dogs. Both excellent. Give this place a try! read more

This may be the best chicken wings in town. They are so good that I came in a bald headed old man and i left a 23 year old ready to run a marathon.These were the crunchiest wings I've had in a long time and the flavors of heaven were in every bite. And the fries....no the potato sticks. These were fries worthy of the manliest men. These fries are only intended for lumberjacks and men who wrestle elephants. Also the waitress was awesome. If I were 24 years younger and had self confidence I would have asked her out. She was the nicest most patient young lady. No longer the burger option thanks to AJs, Big League, Lafayette Brewing Company, Town & Gown, Triple XXX, and the best burger I have ever had in my entire life: French onion burger from Bistro 501. If you need the basic bar burger menu, Big League. Variety and perfected culinary arts, Town and Gown Bistro as well as the iconic Triple XXX. At these new pandemic prices, I cannot recommend a single burger here. It is so sad. DT Kirby's used to be a decent couple times a year hotspot but the big increase in prices no longer work in this area given the better sports listed above. There is too much grease here, limited draft selection, awkward street parking, and forcing an upcharge on the universal fries is pure nonsense, should be included like all good burgers. Way too quick to drop big money here when Town and Gown offers so much better value, quality, and variety. We used to frequent DT's a lot! But in the past couple years the beef city scene has moved upwards and competition is farmer fierce. Bru Burger has the same issues, all places crowing about burgers but then holding back fries to an extra fee like a passive aggressive step-mom. Unfortunate because this is the greatest junk food addition fix, vintage urban style, nice brew selection, and thought out menu from beef to pig. Check out my photos and yes, those are huge burgers not small hands. The Prime Burger is fantastic, that gouda! The Rueben is also phenomenal. Not complaining about the burgers as they be, takes both hands to get them to the face. The grilled cheese buns are what makes America Great Again. I love all the burgers I've tried here tho the Kirbside '11 is bordering on the ideal form of heart disease. My favorites are the Bar Burger and Sweat it Out. Service is typically good, can be timely to very slow depending on time of day and mood of the kitchen, more of a relaxed evening place than quick bite. We were seated immediately, but it took awhile for our server to come to our table. We ordered our drinks as I waited for my brother to arrive. There were five of us in a booth made for four. My brother refused to pull up a chair... So weird. He just squeezed in the booth side of the table. We ordered an app of fried mushrooms. I don't really like mushrooms, and I especially don't like canned mushrooms. The mushrooms they use for their fried mushrooms looked like sliced canned mushrooms. I was imagining the whole mushroom with the stalk removed. We ordered our meals. Most of it came out right. My burger was a medium rare. I wasn't aware that all burgers came medium rare unless specified, which was fine. My bff's mom's meal was the only one they messed up. It came with fried mushrooms instead of the onion rings. The server explained her mistake when she brought out the meal, and we ended up getting the onion rings by the time we were getting ready to leave, so she bagged them up for us. I wasn't very impressed with the food or the server. The server just seemed sort of lost the entire time. The other guests with me had previously been the DT Kirby and said that some things had changed. They said the burger buns were different; they were larger and poorer quality. Nothing fancy about this local bar on Main Street. I walked right by it once before backtracking. Just know that it is located under the marquee. Once you enter, the bar is to the left and the dining area is to the right. It's one of those "seat yourself" establishments. I didn't see anyone working on the dining side, so I asked for a menu at the bar and grabbed a seat at a table on the dining side. Fortunately, a waitress arrived before long and I was able to place my order. I will say that the Chicago Dog (with chips and pickle spear) was really good. One of the best I've had. It was fully loaded with that crazy blue/green relish, the pickled peppers, tomato slices and served on a soft bun with poppy seeds on it. The dog itself was puffed and tasty. In fact, the sandwich was so loaded that I had to eat from angles to avoid spilling the contents. Very tasty indeed! I got the house chips which were crisp but could use a bit of salt/seasoning.
