Hard to find a more authentic dive bar with Chicago menu and as much personality as DT Kirby's. The wait staff and bar keeps are edgy and cool, even more so than me in the 1980s. The menu is filled with voluminous options, and dozens of TVs keep the faithful entertained. As a bonus, sometimes Don will mill around the place and give patrons a warm welcome. The beer and liquor selection is good, big menu with many comfort favorites. The only thing keeping this 4.5 star review from 5.0 is the questionable bathroom cleanliness. Sometimes the smell is strong enough to knock a dog off the gut wagon, or at least make me hold my breath. This is a popular spot but I wasn't surprised to see the 3.5 stars. The only reason I'm giving it a three is because our server was fabulous. The menu claims that they use hand-picked steak to make their burgers but clearly something's gone wrong because I had a burger today and it was disgusting. One of the previous reviewer's said that the food was poor quality and I completely agree. This is a good place to get a beer and maybe their homemade chips. But if you're looking for a good quality burger, go to The Bryant. read more

Yummy, messy burgers! This was a fun place to eat at, what with their kitchen roll concept (number of rolls indicates how messy the burger is going to be). It has a great vibe, and the burgers were as promised very messy but delicious. They're also good sized burgers - I couldn't finish mine. I really enjoyed their fries which are different to your usual french fries (a little on the salty end). My only issue would be with our waitress - she wasn't outright rude, but not exactly the friendliest/most approachable either. It's definitely worth a visit. read more

Best place in town to get burgers. Count on it being messy, though. In fact, their menu shows you how messy each item is - just look for the number of paper towels each item recommends. I've heard that their hot dogs are pretty good to, but never had a chance to check it out myself. Service is good and Prices are decent. I had to check out this Chicago sports bar since I'm originally from the Chicagoland area. I had read that this place was hard to find since there isn't a sign on the outside so I relied on good ol google maps to lead the way! Since it's located in downtown Lafayette, expect to park on the street. Hope you're good at parallel parking unlike the person in front of me LOL The inside is pretty cool. You can choose to sit at the bar or at a table. We opted for a table in the back. The decor has a Chicago homey feel to it which I was vibin' minus the Cubs stuff since I'm a White Sox fan! Boooo Cubs boooo! Ah now for the food. I went with Trish's pita with fries instead of chips and my boyfriend ordered the Chicago Italian beef also with fries and had asked for it to be done Chicago style, meaning the bread/sandwich is dipped in the au jus and topped off with gardinera. When the food arrived it was fresh to order! No cold fries YAY! However my boyfriends Italian beef was not dipped and the au jus and peppers were on the side but we were hungry so he said it was fine. I had some of his sandwich and the beef was dry but the gardinera and bread was okay. Mmmm I've def had better in Chicago and this did not represent our city well! My pita wasn't too bad honestly! No complaints there. The chicken was seasoned well and tzatziki sauce on top was a good touch! We loved the fries!! They were cut wide but thin? If that makes sense! And they were crispy!! Verdict: average bar food with huge portions. Would I come back? Probably not. There isn't anything else on the menu that I would like to try. Came here with a bunch of friends on a Saturday night because we heard the food was great and the portion size was better. The inside is sporty and bar-like with the bathrooms being disguised as porta poties. It was packed, but my party of 6 was still able to be seated right away. I had heard that DT Kirbys had a food challenge, and so I decided to give it a go. I got the Chicago dog with chips, prime burger with fried mushrooms, Brady brunch (sandwhich special for the Superbowl) with onion rings, and an appetizer of spinach & artichoke dip with fried pita bread chips. Every single item was spectacular. The burger was beautifully cooked, the sandwhich had some of the best chopped steak, and the sides were fried to perfection. With that being said, the challenge was tough. This place serves food to drunk people, so obviously its going to be greasy. I was able to complete the challenge in 40 minutes (45 time limit) and get the free meal, tshirt, and wall of fame. I do not think that most people can eat this much food, but if you're into challenges, give it a try. The only negative was the fact that the server wasn't very knowledgeable about the specials, menu, or the challenge, which gave some of my peers triuble when ordering/paying as well as me trying to understand the challenge rules. read more

My first time at DT's. Atmosphere was nice. I'm a St. Louis fan, and some of the decor was focused on Chicago sports teams. No problem. I like visiting Chicago. My daughter and I were seated along the wall at a table for 2. The height of the tables doesn't match the seat height. You feel like a little kid trying to reach your food on the table. They should lower these. I ordered the Kirbside burger and my daughter ordered the grilled cheese cheeseburger. They were huge. I like that they put salt on the pretzel roll. My daughter couldn't finish her sandwich. We'll definitely come back. I want to try the fried mushrooms and wings. Another table ordered these and they looked awesome. This place seems like one of the go to place for burgers in W Lala (besides triple X). The burgers are HUGE, flavorful, and amazing. I will definitely come back. We came on a busy weekend but still able to get seated within a few minutes. We started with the buffalo/garlic parm wings (twist on wings) which were amazing! Sadly I think they were on the limited time menu. Also had the bacon cheeseburger which was flavorful chicken juicy, and VERY messy! I could only finish half of the burger but it was so good. I got them with friggin fries with the fry sauce - yum. Definitely coming back soon when I'm craving a burger. PS. The atmosphere and the menu evoke a fun foodie take on a brew pub. The place is fun and is a nice brew pub, but the entrees undershoot the high expectations the menu evokes. Also, everything is very salty. Is this is not your thing, Kirby's is not your place. Lafayette is slim pickings, and there is nothing wrong here. And it is fun. If you like salt this is the place for you. I ordered the burger they had displayed on their menu which was their specialty burger. It was basically a salt and potato chip sandwich. I also had the fried pickles as an appetizer which were okay. They basically just battered and deep fried a dill pickle. The pickles were not the normal circular fried pickles that most places serve and I don't know why but for some reason circular fried pickles are better. The waitress was very nice and the atmosphere was good although the chairs were ripped to shreds and the wall tables offered in the dinning section were very small. I'm certain there are other things on the menu that are good but me nor my wife enjoyed our food. read more

The health department found live roaches in the filthy kitchen. I wish I could write better things, but DTK has bottomed out. If you value your health, go elsewhere. The place is easy to find and parking can be found pretty easily on the street. The overall ambience is warm and friendly. I thought the porta potty bathroom doors were pretty cute. The menu is witty and charming and will give you a good laugh while you're looking over it. The food was pretty lacking though. Pretty unsure if I will return to give different menu items a try. We were seated at one of the two seater tables that are bar stool high and connected to the wall. It is kind of an awkward angle to sit at with your backs away from the rest of the restaurant and having to angle your head if you want to look at any TV. Our host and server were friendly enough. The menu is extensive but our server did not offer to give us any recommendations or offer to answer questions about the menu. Food: -Mac n Cheese Burger: I LOVE mac n cheese in my grilled cheese, burgers, basically anything. I finished most of my burger mostly because I was hungry and not because of taste. I'm sure most people don't think the mac n cheese should be tasty or anything. But it was just kind of lukewarm with no seasoning. There were two pieces of bacon in my burger as well. Overall, it was just kind of a letdown and needs a sauce. Maybe I need to order it medium rare as opposed to medium well. -Onion rings: Man, these seem like they are right out of the fryer. They are super oily. I enjoyed the sauce that came with the onion rings. This was probably my favorite thing out of everything. -Chips: The chips are salty, yo. A little less salt and they would be good to go. Overall the experience was ok. The dogs did sound really good so if I do come again that might be something I try. We made late decision to eat postgame meal together, have a few Daddy Pops and watch football after great day in Ross Ade... I got parking spot at front door! That was highlight of our meal... 30 minutes after sitting we got water and drink order in. The sense of urgency doesn't exist,,, granted people are running around, but it wasn't standing room only.. just busy. 8/10 busy. Our hostess was apparently busy doing something else. Like filling ketchup cups, as we witnessed the party across from us finish their meals before they got ketchup. Knowing this delay was standard, i noted the ketchup cups on a fridge and decided to fill my own for our table. I also got flatware, since having an enormous hamburger is generally a messy endeavor. Our food came out, 1.25 hours from walking in. Burgers were done right, except one... which was apparently due to fact that when trying to order a DT Kirby burger without mushrooms was delicately denied, so the hamburger became a Swiss Mushroom burger, for person not wanting mushrooms. Remember we wanted to have a few beers. I got one... one beer due to lack of service. Floor manager is really negligent, so unless he's the owner... he really needs a vacation, b/c he is not attentive to clients. Well my Bar Burger was good tasting, but cold. After more than an hour ... I could have eaten my arm. Which would have been crispy'er than the home chips. These were cooked in a fryer that was overwhelmed or under temperature. They were soaked in grease and about like eating leather coaster after soaking sweat from beer you wish could ordered earlier. We won't return, no matter how clever this Chi-town motif is. Very good bar food right in the heart of downtown Lafayette! I've been here a few times now and have been impressed every time. They have an extensive menu full of tasty-looking options. As an Indiana native, I am quite appreciative of their massive breaded pork tenderloin sandwich. I've tried both the cheese curds and fried pickles as appetizers and they're both very good. They have great deals on beer as well, with cheap domestic buckets even on the weekends. It's a Chicago-themed bar full of Chicago sports memorabilia.
