Great local bar with very friendly staff and great food. I was there two days in a row the first day I had a cheeseburger and fries, and it was quite enjoyable. The second day I had the pork tenderloin sandwich. It was pounded not too thin, so the pork was still nice and juicy and the breading on it was quite flavorful. In search of Mexican food on the west side of town, but Chaparrito closes at eight so we ended up at hunters pub, that ended up being a very lucky decision. The daily special was flank steak fajitas and they were excellent. Steak was prepared very well and the onions, peppers and rice to go along with them were delicious. We shared a chicken quesadilla, which quite frankly I would go back and order as a main course next time because it is on the regular menu. It was made very well with the tortilla being cooked perfectly, and the chicken with a little bit of a spicy kick to it. Most importantly, we enjoyed the atmosphere at Hunters Pub with all the key sports on the televisions and not to loud. The service was exceptional. A very big thank you to Kimberly, who made our dinner much more enjoyable. She was very good at giving recommendations as to what we should pick off the menu.. We stopped in once again to Hunters and enjoyed a quick bite for dinner. Their Frisco Burger is one of my favorite menu options. Their Soup du Jour was Lemon Chicken Orzo and, like all the others I've tried there was awesome.This was the first time they had it when I was there. I hope they continue to include it in their rotation. The service is always great; the staff very friendly (even when they are stressed out when they are swamped), and I've even been there when the owner pitches in to help the servers when they are packed. read more

A lot to like, broad appeal, menu variety of American grill and predictable dishes, pleasant staff, casual atmosphere catering to the over forty crowd along with the ingredients, I finally got to try after good friends mentioning their good times here. The parking is a serious pain point. My buddy got the Chicken parmesan sandwich but the quickly wished he had got the Reuben instead. My chicken tortilla soup was extremely chunky, more of a goulash but still tasty. The other dish of wings and pretzel bites app did well. Drafts are limited for having a brewery down the street. I got the classic Indiana peanut butter Busted Knuckle then a basic blue moon. Both are very fine on tap and paired well with my grilled catfish, I would have gone for more sauce options. Thankfully the coleslaw was ideal for adding along with my soup. I could see myself trying again but only when our favorite, Town and Gown is closed. read more

Just a great place to be no matter what time of day or what day of the week. First, the service is excellent and the bartenders are friendly and genuinely attentive to the customers. Second, the diverse menu has excellent options at reasonable prices. I really haven't tasted anything I didn't like. However, I typically get sandwiches, wraps and soups, which have all been very good, but I can't attest to the steak because I haven't had it (this is not the type of place I would think of ordering steak though). I really love it here. For two years, when I called West Lafayette "home", this was the place I would go. Great place to watch a game or just hang out. Quite a few different food items that I would rotate getting, so just about anyone can find something they like. Always a variety of beer on tap and rotating drink specials. It is 21+ here, which was great for someone like me, who wanted to eat/drink without kids running around. Joy, the owner, and the staff are good people who really do an amazing job. I miss them and have many fond memories from the two year period that I spent here. If you're in the area, whether it be for a Purdue event, game or just passing through, I would recommend you stop in here. read more

Fried pickles were wonderful. Ribs fell off the bone. We all enjoyed our meals. Only complaint, one in our party ordered a mixed drink, the glass was so packed with ice there was probably not a half cup of actual drink in it. We were visiting our daughter and son-in-law in West Lafayette. Drove all day and were ready for a good meal and time to sit and visit. What a great experience!! We just ate at Hunter's Pub and had a great night. We all had the Fish and Chips special, except my son who had the gourmet burger. The special was breaded catfish and french fries. These were surprisingly delicious. The fish was flaky and moist, and the breading was amazing. There was a hint - just a hint - of sweetness. I wouldn't have noticed it, but I had a bite of salty french fry, and then a bite of the fish and noticed it! It was so so good. Cassie, our server was attentive, but not overly so. Just right! My son said his burger was excellent, and my son-in-law said he had enjoyed that one on a previous visit as well. They have come to love this place which is why they recommended it. The ambiance was relaxed and simple, clean but also vey cozy. It had a bit of a "cabin" feel which matches the "hunting" theme perfectly. It also had lots of large screen tv's with all the sports channels keeping you up to date on the Scottish Open, the Concacaf Gold Cup final, or the NASCAR race. There is something very casual and comfortable about Hunter's Pub. Just off of campus, it's a relaxing yet upbeat environment around dinner and has more of a local town bar feel later In the evening. Whatever the time of day, staff is always very polite and helpful. The menu has a good mix of sandwiches, salads, and entrees. The drink menu has a wide variety of craft beers, including wine. Lately, when I do order food, I've been in the habit of getting the bacon burger with fries and I've not been disappointed. Went here for dinner this evening. Waitress came and took our drink order. 10 minutes later, we get our drinks, she just drops off and doesn't say anything. Another 10 minutes goes by and she finally comes back for our order. We ordered potato skins as our appetizer. We found out once our meal was brought that our skins were dropped on the floor, but no one bothered to let us know. We then received these ones when we were finished with our meal. When asked why they were burnt, we were told "that's our skins "... the cheese was burnt to the point of nonexistent. They were not even edible but we were told they were being taken off our bill and we were expected to be happy with these non edible ones. This review is for the food and the service provided during this Covid-19 issue. We ordered from Hunter's using their online order form that we found on their FB page. The ordering process was very simple and a full menu, as well as beer, is available. The order form gives you the opportunity to customize your sandwiches. For example "sauce on the side" is an option. We ordered the pub chicken sandwich with chips and the High 5 grilled cheese with waffle fries. My wife got her sauce on the side and I was able to remove the provolone cheese and add bacon. We ordered and the website told us our order would be ready in 15 minutes and gave the instructions on how to pick up. We arrived at the 15 minute mark, called to let them know we were there, and they brought our order right out. We drove to a local park to eat and our food was still hot and good as always! Ordered tenderloin- prime rib sandwich and a prime rib steak dinner . I called them back as soon as I got home and realized this is NOT a prime rib . It's more like an old rib eye . The Cesar salad was less then good due to the amount of water in it . The tenderloin was over cooked and waffle fries . The prime rib sandwich was ok .. and had to feed 2 of us to make up for the bad steak . I called the place back to explain the problems and even sent a text to show him the pic and was only offered 2 -$5 gift cards for the next visit . Hunters is a mixed bag for me, but I think four stairs is fair based on overall food quality, value, beer/food selection, and furnishings. I've been here six or eight times over the years and decided to finally write a review. I had the black-n-blue burger, well done, with fries. The burger was cooked through without being burnt. The blue cheese was sharp and added good taste and texture. Lettuce and tomato garnish was super fresh. The bun was nothing spectacular, it did not hold up to the weight of the burger or my cutting the sandwich, but did its job and held the burger and toppings together. The fries were a disappointment. These were overcooked and lukewarm. Definitely had been sitting in the fry pile for a while and dried out. There is no excuse for a pub not serving fresh piping hot fries. A disappointment that should drop this review to three stars, but the quality of the second meal buoyed my score. My partner had the chicken quesadilla dinner plate, which came with refried beans, rice, some lettuce and sour cream, and a side of salsa too spicy to eat. Very good dish and we had enough quesadilla left for a take home snack. The entire place seemed to be staffed with one bartender and two servers. They kept up with the full house remarkably well. Overall a good value for the price, both meals under $10. My partner got the usual overpriced soda but the server kept it full. This pub draws mostly graduate students and the 40-65 year old crowd, local professionals and married folk on a dates or girls night out. There are exceptions, both younger and older, but it's definitely not a college bar. Hunters is a decent pub that benefits from its location, large menu, and lack of competition in this busy commuter corridor loaded with strip-mall and small businesses. The interior is nothing special: a lot of wood, TVs, and chalkboard signage. It's quite boring actually but the pre-geriatric crowd doesn't seem fazed in the slightest. I'm not a fan, as four stars suggests, but Hunters is a safe bet. Hard to go wrong with this local establishment. Final verdict: 3.5 stars and I'm rounding up due to value. I've now been here three times, and I feel like I can give them a solid 4 stars. We discovered that if you sit on the left side of the self-seat restaurant, it's the "drinking" area, so the waitstaff doesn't see you. We ended up leaving in a hungry huff, but later realized it was kind of on us. That said, the restaurant probably should've noticed that two people were sitting there with no drinks and looking around....or put up a sign that says "Bar service this way, restaurant service that way." I took off half a star for this mix up. The second and third times were solid. I got the same dish both times, and was pleased with the portion size; I walked out super full. The onion rings are large and battered, which I appreciate more that the crumb coating. The chicken parm sandwich was yummy. Spouse had a hamburger the first time, and a frisco melt the second time. In his words, 'They're okay, dawg." Which, translated, means, "They were okay, but not so good that I won't try something else next time." The other half star was taken off because of the way they label their bathrooms. The men's room is labeled "Hunter," and the women's room is labeled "Hunted." We live in a post-#MeToo era, and this seems pretty tone-deaf. I don't really want a bar reminding me that it's a place where I could be "hunted" by their other clientele. read more

The lady who took our order was very nice and the food was ready in less than 15 minutes. Then we checked our order and found out our half-pound, $11 boneless chicken appetizer only had 10 small chicken pieces. Maybe they were half a pound but I don't think so. We asked the lady and she said that it's always 10 wings to a order so I don't understand why they can't just write that on the menu instead of "half-pound" of chicken as it's misleading. The burger and fries were pretty good so I didn't want to review them low due to how good service was and the food was not bad. Writing an update in regards to the COVID-19 adaption Hunter's Pub has made--I'm pretty impressed. I missed their darling nachos grande so we decided to order some for take out and Hunter's did several things right. They not only had the food warm and ready for us to pick up, they packed moist towelettes, napkins, plasticware, and did not skimp out on the food. The amount was as much as we would have if eating in. They seemed really appreciative of our support for their local business. read more

Stopped in today initially because it was the only local restaurant we could find open. Although, I think now it was providence. We had the opportunity to meet the new owner, Joy. We are now aware she has been the owner since January. She was working hard: rolling up silverware in napkins, working in the back, and visiting with customers. She appears to be a very hard worker and wants to update the place. Restaurants can not be an easy thing to run let alone own. Our food was delicious and atmosphere friendly. This pub is a staple in West Lafayette and is a great to place to go for lunch or dinner. There are plenty of TV's to watch sports and enjoy the big game. The food menu is very extensive and should be able to please any taste buds. My favorite here is the fish and chips (catfish fingers and fries). Be sure to get the fries cajun style for extra zing. In addition to the great food, they have plenty of beer, wine and liquor options. The servers and bartenders are great here and are very attentive. They take very good care of you and keep your drinks full.
