I hosted a dinner for my organization at AJ's and I am certainly recommending that this happens here again! Adam was super easy to work with and accommodated our group of 30 students. He created a modified menu for our group, had dedicated servers for our section and the food & beverages flowed so easy through the evening. The vibe was amazing and a few students said this dinner was way better than the previous year. While I was floating throughout the event I was unable to eat the breakfast burger during the event but goodness! I devoured it at my hotel after the event along with my waffle fries and chipotle ranch for dipping. The chipotle ranch!!! I will stop by again just for a breakfast burger! Ok, I'm torn. I got the Boom boom burger and it was AMAZING. The waffle fries, per usual, are also crispy and delicious. My hubby and I search for good wings because they're hard to find. Server was nice. Food was just gross. Greasy, burgers weren't cooked all the way and were tasteless. Spouse ordered onion rings, which he loves. He couldn't eat them bc they were so greasy. Everything was an upcharge that wasn't listed on the menu as an extra fee. I had an Italian beef sandwich, the cheese on the top wasn't melted and there was an extra charge for the peppers on the top. There was maybe a teaspoon of hot peppers on the sandwich. I hadn't been to AJs since it moved. The new place Is a great sit down and very open. The food is just amazing per usual! The loaded fries are honestly my favorite thing hands down. We hadn't been to AJ's since it moved its Lafayette location to near the Purdue campus. We were very pleasantly surprised. The whole "gastropub" vibe is a perfect fit for the new location. The new (to us) location feels like a place you'd go with a bunch of friends for the evening, with some great burgers taking center stage. And the burgers are the star here. The delicious blue cheese burger that I had is definitely a "grownup" burger. We also sampled the gyros, which hold their own in a market with several Greek restaurants. The kids enjoyed their corn dogs and waffle fries, and the staff was very gracious in handling the craziness that comes with kids. I was just in town for the Purdue/MSU football game. BTFU! I stopped by AJ's for lunch and my friends and I came back for dinner after the game and grabbed some beers to celebrate. When I walked in for lunch, the place was packed as it was about 1.5 hours before the game so I ordered carryout. The cashier was in a bad mood as the place was slammed so service could have been better or at least friendlier. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger and it was great! It had really good flavor, the bacon was awesome along with the other toppings. Not the best burger I have ever had, but it really hit the spot and I see why it's rated as one of the best burgers on campus. I do love their waffle fries! They were extremely fresh, hot and crispy. We figured Harry's would have been too crowded to grab food for dinner around 7pm right after the football game, so we stopped by AJ's. It was again packed as it's a great location near campus, but we hawked a table who just finished and we snagged theirs immediately after they left. I ordered the Gyro for the first time and it was fantastic! Lots of meat and Tzatziki sauce and the onions were crispy. And of course it came with waffle fries! Our waiter was solid and it's the best service I have seen in my last 3 visits. Overall, the gyro and the burgers are great! The last time I came, I ordered the Chicago Dog and the Mozz sticks. The Chicago Dog was very meh and the mozz sticks were essentially still frozen and tasteless. The beef is decent. Maybe just an off day when I visited? Food is a 4 out of 5. The atmosphere is really neat and it has a nice layout. Plus they serve beer so 5 out of 5. However, service could definitely be improved. Yeah, it's mostly college students working so that is probably why. I know they were slammed, but the food took forever. One of the best burger and fancy fast food diners in the area, fun times with infrequent trivia on Wednesdays, small tap selection, excellent service, and we frequently drop in during the semester for trivia, wings, baby corn dogs, and a solid burger. There isn't a rewards program which is odd and location can be tricky with parking filling up quick but take Vine St the next block north and often parking is available. The Boom Boom burger, Gyro Burger, and Pizza Pocket burger are winners, don't forget the super tasty waffle fries, and easily put AJ's up there with Red Seven, Big League, Sgt Preston's, and The Bryant for good local burger eating. The funnel cake sticks are tiny and not worth it but the loaded fries makes the easy favorite here. I would love to see more options on the menu, especially some non-deep fried, to help out with coming here often for trivia. It has to be hard competing with Harry's, The Tap, Brothers, and Triple XXX all within a block but I'm glad this Purdue bred restaurant keeps the atmosphere casual and easy going, the beer cold and cheap, and making his unique chef/owner styled trivia games personal and fun for all ages. read more

Service was good and the building itself was nice. I made a mistake though in ordering the boneless wings and chili cheese dog. The wings weren't anything exceptional but were fine. The chili cheese dog though was pretty bad, even for something as simple as that. There was no actual shredded cheese but just a cheap cheese sauce instead, and the chili was so liquidy it was basically a soup on top. Even the sausage didn't look appetizing, and I'm fairly certain the whole thing was microwaved. That being said, I do plan on going again as I've heard good things about their burgers. I don't know how AJ's is able to transform a humble hamburger into something so drool-icious it'll send you on a burger kick that will last weeks, but somehow they pull it off. Any home cook can make a burger that tastes better than 99.9% of the burger joints out there, but AJ's culinary contribution to Tippecanoe County is impossible to duplicate. I am a teeny little girl, but I can plow through a triple like a Mack Truck. They also have loaded waffle fries that are to die for, I'm told, but I'm WAY too fixated on their burgers to experiment. But you should! I'm here on a Thursday night, at the campus AJ's, and it's almost completely empty. Come on West Lafayette!! AJs is a staple of Purdue I mean where else can you get an amazing burger and greasy fries when almost black out drunk at 1 am ? The food can be messed up on occasion but overall you will destroy any food they put in-front of you just because it looks so juicy and delightful. I feel that I have gone here more times blacked out and high off my feet than sober. An added benefit is that if you order online they will usually be pretty quick with your order and by the time you get there it's done and you can stumble back to your apartment and consume one of the best burgers in the area. The workers are always amazing and for the work load they have always have time for you. 10/10 eat here if you haven't. read more

This AJ's location 1 of 2 in Lafayette Indiana scores an overall of 2 rounded up from a 1.8. My wife and I visited AJ's campus location 12/27/19 during lunch. I had heard that this location is very busy when all the students were in town and I wanted to avoid that. We arrived and first thing we noticed were signs on the small trees out front. "When you leave drunk don't break my trunk", I honestly didn't get it at first. Then ahhh haaa... We were greeted by a very friendly hostess who was the only one working the dining room. Perfectly fine because it was slow, very slow. We reminded each other it was Christmas Break. She allowed us to sit where we liked and choose a booth. Once sitting I regretted it. They seem made by the owner or cabinet maker, all wood not comfortable. However the place was nice, clean and everything well kept. We were excited about the food. We sat and J ordered sweet tea and I unsweetened, but after the waitress left I realized there was no sweet n low or other sugar substitutes. She returned with the drinks and I asked for sweet n low and she said we don't have non of that but I can throw some sweet on top. I declined but latex subdued because despite my lame attempt to look healthy by ordering unsweetened tea I'm fat and love sweet tea. C'mon I'm from Louisiana what did you expect? We ordered me= Mushroom Swiss with "new fat" onion rings and J had the GCB the garlic butter cheese burger with waffle fries. I was warned about everything being fresh and hot but I burned the F#{£ out of my mouth with the first onion ring. I put it down for lesson learned. However this just tells me the kitchen timing was off. Throwing fried food on tight as it goes out. Waffle fries were just as screaming hot. So maybe wait 5 minutes to eat. IDK? My first bite of the mushroom Swiss burger I tasted Beefiness and mushroom but each one after was drowned in mayo, in fact that was the only moisture left aside from what was trapped in the mushrooms. The GCB was void of Garlic and butter!? Not sure what happened there. The bun reminded me of my younger years, desperate for a burger and buying a frozen prepared burger and toasting the bun to save any self dignity a poor young man when trying to gourmet a frozen gas station burger. It looked nice but it was dry, dense and seemed stale. It had a herb or sprinkling of something on top that added a tear the roof of your mouth off texture but nothing more. Bothe burger patties were overcooked and based on the texture I'm assuming pre made and frozen, they were dense and like a fine grind which to me screams cheap beef. When taking your order you know your at a joint that serves the best beef available if they ask what temp you would like your burger. AJ's does not! Sides: Onion rings scored a zero, hell I couldn't taste them remember. Seriously I could but they were doughy greasy and just made my stomach turn, in fact it's 6 hours after eating and my stomach is still in knots. Waffle fries were most definitely frozen and prepared as one would expect. Here is my assumption great drunken burger joint for game nights and a rushed burger for lunch. I would bet money nothing is made in house from scratch, therefore I place them on a ratings scale with McDonald's. It was not with the $30 we spent for lunch. It's overpriced and we came at a time they should have been blowing people's mind with what they can do. It's a cSh cow on campus for an owner or manager who likely won't throw out stale or bad food! Aj's has always been the go-to restaurant for me & my friends when we're starving at a late hour. We've gotten it door dashed and have dined in a few times. They have tv's going inside. The staff is very polite. Food sometimes takes a while so don't go if you're in a rush. read more

Went there on a Saturday night for carry out. After waiting 10 minutes I had to track down employee to place an order. After placing order waited additional 20 minutes then I asked about my order. Several people had ordered online and after me and all served. A lady on production line yelled from the back take it or leave it. Not sure what that meant. Then she shoved the order to me without apologizing. My name was wrong on order and instead of getting 2 large beef sandwiches I got 2 small ones for $27.50. A purdue student present said I should not have been treated that way. Maybe they disrespect senior citizens. They sure did to me. I called owner and he stood up for rude employee. He said they always have slow service. I will never go back to this restaurant. Everyone should avoid it unless you want to be belittled and ripped off. read more

We used to visit AJ's in the old location when our son was a student at Purdue. We always liked the food, but the seating and atmosphere left something to be desired. Recently, on a trip through W. Lafayette, we were planning to go to another place for lunch, but it was too crowded, so we were going to try AJ's again. We found out it had moved and changed to table service (a great improvement). The menu was also changed a bit. I had the chicken-bacon-ranch sandwich and it was EXCELLENT! Perfect all the way around. The battered fries were a great compliment, too!
