The egg nog cocktail would've further drained my wallet had it still been stocked! Wish they offered deals with the drinks to entice us younger budget based boys, charging more than twenty for a simple bourbon mix is limiting the return of those who can really enjoy the live music volume. Let me nail down each dish we had this past Wednesday, the grilled bacon was entirely fine, quite tough but nice fatty flavors, I like Teay's River candied bacon app better. Oyster was good, east coast briny does me right. Our Old Fashioneds were insanely expensive without offering any memorable flavors, balance seemed restrained neither giving a forward bite or a smooth sweetness. Strawberry Lemon sprits was similar, an overpriced kid's slushy. Asparagus was fine. Potato sides surprisingly flavorless, we all couldn't believe how dull the potatoes were. My sister's salmon looked half the size of Town and Gown's while costing fifty percent more and offering half the food. She did finish the ocean protein but left most of the rice. Thankfully the desserts were better, bread pudding somewhat dry and needing a sparkle of that smooth actual pudding but the winner was definitely the key lime. Rich and dense, dreamy and tangy, I got happy! Sure the atmosphere and staff is enjoyable, providing some fresh city vibes compared to the homely and old school Mountain Jacks. However Jacks and Mcgraws Steakhouse both do far better as culinary is concerned. Would be exciting to see this place fix up their inconsistency, out of touch pricing, or they'll be the next to go the way of Bowen Bistro during the next economic crash.

This controversial mural is the work of The Droops, an Indianapolis-based artist collective who…read morewere commissioned by The Spot to do the piece in 2015. It located on the side of the Spot and overlooks their parking lot. It takes up 2 sections of the bar's side wall. The mural is in great shape but as you can see in the photos, its lower park is obstructed by parked vehicles. It is a collogue of random images that include a guillotine, a beer on a folding chair, a tombstone, a skull, a in a bikini with four eyes holding a beer up, a knife, a clown, a bomb, a trumpet, a cigarette butt, a foot, a face being punched by a fist, a hand holding a knife, and an odd character holding a beer while playing a piano. The mural also depicts a naked woman tied to a tree and male genitalia in between a hotdog bun, which caused quite a site as you can imagine. There were calls by the community to have the offensive piece removed, covered up or fenced off. The change.org petition ended with 20 supporters. At one point the Lafayette police issued a warning that artwork was violation of the city's graffiti ordinance. There was a point during all of this that they used a Mike Pence head (who was governor at the time) to cover the male genitalia. Ultimately, the Spot won and the city decided that the mural was not graffiti and did not meet the criteria for a citation. The mural is standing today. Even though there are a lot of images to digest. The artwork is very nice. This is a provocative piece that definitely generates conversation. You can deiced for yourself what your thoughts on the piece are. Parking to get a closer look at the mural is easy, even though it overlooks a parking lot, the lot is kind of tight. There is however, some free parking pretty close to the mural too. Anyway, as with most murals that I have visited and reviewed, this is not a long stop. I was there less than 5 minutes. So, you may want to consider planning out additional stops at many of the other attractions in the area, or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip. There of tons of murals to check out in the immediate area.

The onion rings were on the thinner side but with great crunch. Because of the nostalgia factor, they let us in behind the bar to get a group shot (for posterity's sake). The history of the restaurant and its owners is on the back of the menu and is a great and heartwarming read. I ordered the regular size portion of corned beef and cabbage with mashed potatoes and a slice of deliciously dense Irish bread. My bf got a pint of cider and Irish stew with a slice of Irish bread. The table also split an order of pub chips and at the end, a slice of Irish Bailey's cheesecake. The cheesecake is a must get!! My bf paid our bill which was about $40, which is a great price for the large quantity of yummy Irish food we enjoyed. I would love to go back here anytime we are in town.

It was a clear evening so I was able to enjoy the balcony. This is a good location if you want to enjoy Downtown Lafayette. Plenty of restaurants and bars within walking distance. While this hotel was ok I do prefer some of the other nearby hotels. I frequently work in Lafayette and have stayed in IHG and Marriott properties all over Lafayette.

This was evident throughout the hotel during my stay. The lobby is a nice, comfortable place to meet up to relax and chat (except for that odor). The bar is nice as well. I haven't had a mixed drink there, so I can't make recommendations on that. Wine selection is average. The hotel was completely renovated approximately 2 years ago. Decor is new/modern. My room was clean and comfortable. They took out the pool when they did the renovation. There is still a small workout room. Now, why only 2 stars. In addition to the smell of gas throughout, I could not take a shower. Considering the new renovations, the state of the shower in my room was deplorable. And my room isn't the only one like that. We have associates that come in town and stay here. It is hit or miss on the showers depending on the room. Suites appear to have been completed with very nice showers and tubs so they typically try to book a suite. Regular rooms, all I can guess is they ran out of money??? I've posted pics for you. There are two other very nice hotels just across the river if you want to be in the downtown area. You'll pay a little more, but at least you'll be able to shower.

The basement has a nightclub vibe, with lots of good EDM/rap music playing throughout the night. It's fairly large, and has good lighting/party effects. There is a bar and bathrooms down here as well. There isn't much seating downstairs as it is more for dancing. The first floor now contains two bars, and has plenty of seating. This is where you'll probably want to be if you want to sit and order some food, while also being in the bar environment. There are usually a decent amount of people on the first floor. The second floor has more of a lounge vibe, with a bar and a ton of seating. There is a beer pong table, and I think they sometimes do karaoke up here. If you just want to sit and chill, without loud music and lots of people, the second floor is where to go. 308 also has food, and I was surprised by how good it is. I have had a couple of their sandwiches, and for a bar, it is pretty darn good. It's not somewhere I would go out of my way to eat at, but it is good. The drink specials are generally pretty good; some notable specials they run are the $1 "you call it" shots, where the bartender just kind of pours whatever they want, and the $4 Titos specials. They have just about every type of liquor imaginable. The bathrooms here are kind of weird, and it can get very backed up when it's busy. The second floor one is particularly bizarre, being a unisex bathroom with a lock that also has multiple urinals/stalls, with no real divider between them. I'm not entirely sure how that one is supposed to operate. Overall though, 308 has become somewhere I go to semi-reguarly, particularly due to its multiple offerings. (Want to dance? Go to the basement. Want to just chill? Second floor. etc.) It's not a bad choice by any means if you're in the Purdue/West Lafayette area.

And the food is really good - the pork tenderloin (brought down from sister bar Digby's was a "grown up" version with flavorful marinated meat encased in a nice breading that refused to crumble off, topped with a mustard sauce and house-made cucumber, onion and jalapeño pickles on a brioche bun that stood up to it all. It's not the tenderloin I had as a kid, but it's a delight for a grown-up. I really like this place, and so does my wife.
