    "Western" Omelette

Worst dining experience ever. From the moment our party walked in (4), we were greeted by one waitress running around, working every table. The only available tables were covered in trash and after waiting for it to be cleaned, we were "offered" seats at the bar. Although the bar was cramped and the seats were rock hard, we were entertained during the very long wait for service by the sounds of our server being verbally abused by an older female co-worker. I ordered a western omelette, and have never had a bad experience with that at any other restaurant. So imagine my surprise when I cut into it to find celery and radishes inside. The omelet was less western, and more "what do we need to get rid of". Yuck! If the dirty atmosphere, hints of verbal harassment, and slop they serve doesn't do it for you, upon leaving you are forced to pay in cash, or be charged to pay with debit. No credit cards accepted. Would have had a better time lighting my money on fire.

First walked in and felt like I went back in time. While I was sitting there were plenty of cool things to see on the walls and gave that classic feeling. The service was great and I appreciate it that though I was coming in close to closing time the waitress still took time to take my order and the food was not rushed. Also the food itself was great and I enjoyed every bit of it. Be aware it is cash only but don't let this stop you from coming.

    Cafe is definitely old school.

This is your good old fashioned old school diner. Ate here for breakfast. There was only one waitress, but she was able to handle everyone with a friendly smile. The pancakes were huge and the coffee was hot.

Stopped into Sunrise Diner this morning for a quaint reunion with some friends hoping to enjoy some delicious brunch but was instead we were highly disappointed. Our first red flag should have been the "cash only" wrinkled sign on the door. What is this? The 18th century? Anyways, the singular waitress, a woman with an attitude but a nice bubble braid hairstyle, encouraged us to "find a seat if it's clean I guess". Hesitant, but hopeful we sat down and were given menus. When a friend kindly asked for a sprite with no ice, she was met with eyes of serious judgment by our waitress. I can only hope my friend will recover. Sprite-less, and hurt, we awaited our food which was the real kicker. When one requests a bacon omelette, they can only hope the bacon can be chopped. A more appropriate name for whatever my friend received is an 'egg blanket with a bacon surprise inside!'. Although we enjoyed the entertainment of the berating the singular waitress gave her staff, it's safe to say we will not be back. XOXO

Amazing guest work, hot chocolate is definitely one of a kind and delicious. Would have to come back for more and it's cheap.

This is your basic diner. No frills. And yes, on weekends things may run slow. But the breakfasts are filling and the B&G delightful. A place where lots of locals come.

The breakfasts are great, but one of the regular waitresses lets her temper flare too quickly and often. Don't escalate!

Pleasant staff greeted us upon arrival and the genial vibe continued throughout our meal. Props to Paige for great service during an obviously busy Saturday morning. Quaint decor and quality service gave me high hopes that the meal would be a winner, too...and it was! Dishes were served hot and perfectly plated...and the first bite sealed the deal: Delicious! Flavor development and fresh tastes met me bite after bite...excellent in every way! If mild coffee is the way you enjoy your coffee, you'll enjoy their coffee...I prefer a more robust blend and missed it the table with the symphony of other great flavors. The carefully clean dining room and bathrooms tell me that management covers all facets of running a great restaurant...kudos! I'll be sure to return to The North End Cafe in the future and I hope you have a similar experience when you cross through the door for the first time! Until next time...tk

I tried it today because someone commented that they did eggs well. They do. My omelette was fluffy and filled with ham. You'll see the picture of his silver dollar pancakes and they look very pale, but they were well-cooked. I don't know how they manage that. I'll let you know ,we will be going back.

Triple XXX root beer was king of the hill back when I was growing up in the 60's and 70's. Damn…read morefine root beer, too! So imagine my (pleasant) surprise that there was but one Triple XXX restaurant that remained open, carrying the torch (as it were) for that great root beer! So on a nice and humid Saturday, me, hubby, and our little Puppy hopped in the car for a 2+ hr drive to West Lafayette IN for lunch! Of course - we got there - an old-style-diner-like building perched on a hill close to Perdue University in West Lafayette! We were seated in the outdoor "full service" tented section of the restaurant (covered) and perused the menu. After ordering the obligatory Triple XXX root beer (but of course - which came with free refills) we turned to the menu! Hubby ordered the Barney Burger - a 1/4 lb chop steak burger with cheese and grilled onions - as fyi, no burger comes with condiments- you get to "dress your own the way you like it" with condi's on the table. I ordered the Bernie Flowers All-Pro - a 1/4 lb chop steak with lettuce, tomato, onion (which I held) and Miracle Whip (yes!) on a toasty sesame bun. We both got curly fries (which were yummy, btw). Ok- first thoughts- the burgers - while fresh- were a bit dry. Hmm. The lettuce on my Bernie was a nice, crisp, and cold leaf. Yes! The tomato was freshly sliced and - honestly- looked like one I'd cut at home. Sweet! So why the 4 stars - I mentioned the meat was dry? Oh my. Yes, that's the sole demerit. But props to the fries and the awesome Root Beer! We enjoyed it - and just in the nick of time. No sooner did we finish up than a severe thunderstorm rolled into town! So we skedaddled to the car, hopped in, and drove thru drenching rain, super strong winds, some light hail - until we got outta Indiana on our way back to Illinois. Would we come again? Of course! Gotta support places like this-they're an important part of Americana! Check it out yourself and enjoy- as we did!

The fries are yummy, and the burger was perfect for what I needed a solid meal since I hadn't eaten in almost 9 hours. Yep sounds like a personal problem. But hey at least the food here has been perfect both times. Maybe next time I will buy a shirt or at least some root beers to go with me. My burger was a true knife and fork meal. To my dismay, they arrived completely overcooked and unappetizingly brown. To add insult to injury, my toast was burnt to a crisp, nearly charred to a shadow of what it should have been. When I pointed this out to the waitress, her nonchalant response was, "It's kind of burnt," as if there are acceptable levels of burn. In my opinion, when the toast is predominantly black, it clearly falls into the category of "burnt." The overall quality of the meal was abysmal, and it was evident that the staff couldn't have cared less about my experience. While I was not charged for the meal, I wouldn't have paid for it even if I had to. There's simply no way I could bring myself to eat here again. Curiously, my husband ordered a similar omelette, but his came out perfectly yellow and appetizing, along with toast that was actually edible. This made me wonder if my request not to burn my food inadvertently insulted the cook, leading to my meal being intentionally scorched. After sending the dish back, I received not a word of apology or even an offer to prepare something else. It was a complete lack of customer service. This review, without a doubt, has to be the most negative I've ever written. Normally, I refrain from posting bad reviews because I understand that everyone can have an off day. If a restaurant attempts to rectify their mistakes, I tend to be forgiving. But in this case, the food was nothing short of garbage on a plate, and the indifference from the staff was glaring.
