Great food and service! Only visited an handful of times so far, but never had anything but a great experience here.

Greetings! Tucked away in a quiet corner of Lafayette, Indiana lies my next discovered gem to share with you: North End Cafe. Pleasant staff greeted us upon arrival and the genial vibe continued throughout our meal. Props to Paige for great service during an obviously busy Saturday morning. Quaint decor and quality service gave me high hopes that the meal would be a winner, too...and it was! Dishes were served hot and perfectly plated...and the first bite sealed the deal: Delicious! Flavor development and fresh tastes met me bite after bite...excellent in every way! If mild coffee is the way you enjoy your coffee, you'll enjoy their coffee...I prefer a more robust blend and missed it the table with the symphony of other great flavors. The carefully clean dining room and bathrooms tell me that management covers all facets of running a great restaurant...kudos! It's an interesting-looking place with a variety of seating options, including some people on couches just having coffee. There are also booths and tables available. I counted 5 different rooms. There is a shop selling odds and ends. I took a picture. The service was prompt and knowledgeable but not at all pushy. I'm having the eggs Benedict; my husband had the breakfast burrito with chorizo. I have coffee. My husband has tomato juice. The tomato juice is very nice, and I'm pleased to say the coffee is perfect. Everything was great except for the hollandaise sauce. It wasn't a bad sauce, just not real hollandaise. I find the food very bland but there is hot sauce and ketchup on the table. The vibe is open airy contemporary artsy charm, maybe? The omelette was filling and hearty. As soon as you walk in a bakery case greets you with a variety of sweet treats including muffins and cookies. While you're waiting for a table you can look at the musical decorations and check out the store that's connected to the restaurant and Community Center. The menu has breakfast and lunch options. From omelettes to biscuits and gravy to the thickest, fluffiest pancakes I have ever seen! I was tempted to try the breakfast taco or quesadilla but went with the 3-egg omelette, home fries and an English muffin! Everything was delicious! We splurged at the end of the meal and tried the beignets! They came with a delicious caramel sauce to dip them in. Can't wait to go back and try a few other things on the menu. Food: lightly seasoned, perfect on the stomach for breakfast and lunch. Portion sizes are fairly large, definitely getting your money's worth. Service: the front staff is kind and very attentive, I had a nice lady fill my coffee whenever I was getting low. Honestly bonus points for that, it's rare to get front service this good!!!! makes me want to go back. Ambiance: it's very clean, it's like a fusion of a diner/cafe. I didn't it but this was mainly a Christian ran cafe. I usually stay away from those types of places because I always get weird stares whenever I'm trying to eat (Chinese dude, in a sea of old white Christian dudes) but the staff were very welcoming that I would totally come again. read more

I'm not 100% sure about this place. It's very cute inside. Looked nice and clean. The service was a little awkward. Nice, but awkward. The hostess seemed like she was uncomfortable seating us. The servers were very young which in itself isn't an issue. They just seemed very scared and uncomfortable. It took quite a bit of time to get our drinks, and they forgot to bring our to go boxes. They were nice though. The food was really great! The beignets were great. I had the breakfast burrito and a half order of biscuits and gravy. The burrito was very flavorful. The sauce on top really sealed the deal. The diced potatoes on the side were cooked and seasoned well. The biscuits and gravy were pretty good for a restaurant. Homemade is always better though. The WORST part didn't even happen directly to us. Our server was standing next to another worker. Possibly a manger because she was wearing a black polo. Standing at a server station, right in the middle of the restaurant, she started throwing stuff on the ground. Looked like check holders with receipts inside. Multiple of them. Then she proceeded to throw someone's payment card over her shoulder onto the floor. Right in front of everyone. That's really disrespectful, especially to do that with someone's livelihood. Not to mention basically throwing a tantrum in the middle of a restaurant. If you need to do that, go in the back out of the customers' sight. Really awful. We got to North End Cafe at around 9:30am on Saturday morning and that was just in time before the crowds rushed in and it was not long before there was a line of people waiting at the door! This place must be really really loved by the community. First, I love the interior decor! The booths were very cute and the establishment was very clean. For our courses We had corned beef hash (which wasn't the type of hash I was used to, but a little more elevated), eggs benedict, a biscuit and gravy and a mango smoothie! Absolute best sausage gravy on the north side. I'd skip the eggs benedict and corned beef in the future, and go for potatoes and gravy! Mango smoothie was lacking flavor. Lovely spot in Market Square. The North End Community Center is run by Faith Ministries so there is a very strong Jesus-y bent to ambiance/decor. Nice little patio area and some lounge-y coffee shop type seating indoors in addition to tables and booths. Service was friendly and attentive. Great place! Honestly was so surprised to find this kind of vibe around this area. The prices are great, coffee is good, service is sweet, attentive and quick. They had live music too! We had the eggs benny and pancakes. My husband loved it but the Canadian bacon was a little too thick for my liking (a personal preference completely). Staff was friendly, food was just gross. I got a chicken bacon ranch sandwich with tater tots. The bacon was undercooked. Squishy. The chicken was tough. The cheese just wasn't right, and it was nothing I could put my finger on, but the ranch was good and served on the side. (It was good with the tots) my party got coffee drinks. Service is absolutely horrendous just to be seated! I went in around 12pm on Sunday and waited at the hostess table for a good 10 minutes before someone recognized that I was there. They told me that the wait was going to be 30 minutes long for my table of 2 (which is fine), but then proceeded to seat a table of 5, a table of 3, and another table of 2 that had came after me. I left when they seated the table of 2 that just walked through the door after 30 minutes of waiting. They weren't even that busy either. I am so offended by this "establishment." read more

Located within the North End Community Center in Lafayette, Indiana, this café is a welcome addition, replacing D&R's BBQ lunch counter and the Flour Mill Bakery before that (casualties of COVID, I'm sure). For those of you unfamiliar, North End is just down the street from Market Square and Arni's flagship pizza location. First impressions - this place is deceivingly large and can clearly handle big groups/families. The décor is fun with the side room dedicated to a music theme. I received superior service, checked on regularly by experienced and friendly staff who worked well as a team. My latte was fabulous and their coffee menu is far better than your average café. The menu runs deep with surprising variety given they are only open for breakfast and lunch. I got the pancakes and they rate slightly under Triple XXX for quality, but who wants to wait at Triple XXX with a bunch of hungover students? Portions are generous at a fair price. The people sitting next to me recommend the breakfast quesadilla and I'll definitely go back and try the Eggs Benedict. Parking is ample and easy. Guessing it will fill up fast on weekends with the post-Church family crowd. Worth a visit! read more

My wife and I live in Iowa but are frequent visitors to West Lafayette. While here, we are always interested (for Covid reasons) in finding restaurants with outdoor dining, which this cafe has. It also has a nice, homey cafe-style atmosphere, which is also a big plus for me. We decided to try it out for the first time this morning, and I am very glad we did. The food was pretty standard breakfast fare, but was very, very good and reasonably priced. My wife had the make-your-own omelette. They provide a large list of possible add-ins, some veggie and some meat. You can choose as many veggie ones as you want for no extra cost but the meat ones cost 50 cents each extra. My wife had asparagus, cheese (you have a large choice of what kind; she got mozarella) and mushrooms. For her bread choice she picked Texas toast but that was underwhelming. She says that in the future she will likely order a biscuit to give to me. (She knows I am a biscuit lover.) I had the North End Country Breakfast, a fancy name for "bacon and eggs". (You can also get sausage and country ham as your meat.) In addition to my bacon, I got very nicely cooked scrambled eggs, and a biscuit (which I brought home, because my wife gave me half her Texas toast). Both our meals came with potatoes. There was no choice here, but that was fine, because they were phenomenal. When they arrived I initially thought they were just going to be those usual tiny cubes of potatoes (good, but not typically as good as hash browns) but they were cooked "southern style" with sauteed red and green peppers and onions. Best potatoes I have had this trip. In fact, had we not been near the end of our trip, I would have seriously considered buying a side of them just to take home and microwave later. My wife really liked hers as well. Service was also excellent. Our waitress was friendly and efficient, and our food was promptly delivered. One thing should perhaps be noted: this restaurant is in the North End Community Center, which is run by Faith Ministries. When we walked through the restaurant to get to the outdoor seating, we noticed a large Biblical quotation on the wall. There may have been other religious overtones but if so we didn't see them, and the quotation did not bother us at all. There was no religious material at our seat and certainly the waitress did not bring the subject up, so that should not cause any kind of problem. read more
