    Homemade Pies
    Wayne W.

Came in for a coffee and ended up eating some of the best French toast in the nation. Service is so friendly. They serve breakfast until 10:30 and then lunch until 2:00. Super clean with spotless restrooms. Fully decorated with Coca Cola memorabilia. They are a fully functioning bakery and we watched many wonderful bakery items were carried out from the back. Homemade pies! Table seating only. A large place. We are coming back! Staff is outstanding. Lisa is outstanding !

I came on a Saturday morning around 11am and scored the very last available table. I ordered the housemade biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were fluffy and the gravy filled the plate. I had heard they are known for their baked goods. Since I was about to travel back to North Carolina, I got baked goods to go. They had seasonal orange-icing pumpkin sugar cookies ($2 ea) that were so cute that I got 4 of them ! I had to try one of everything just about, so I got 2 of each type of cookie (1 for me, 1 for my husband). I think the pumpkin sugar cookies were still my favorite along with the chocolate cookies with powdered sugar. The donuts were a solid cake-like donut and were good too. My favorite was the dipped chocolate. I also bought a blueberry muffin and it was chock full of blueberries! Now to the part that was worth the entire trip... the pies. Let me preface this by saying my Great-Grandmother Schnepp from Colburn, IN nearby was the best pie maker on this planet. I have not had a pie like hers since she passed at the ripe age of 99 1/2. I remember her having a pie stand at the end of her counter in the kitchen with at least 1 pie in it at all times. Lisa's pie (the owner) brought back all those memories of my Grandmother and her pies. Lisa's pies were the closest I have ever tasted to my dear Grandmother's. My very favorite was the cherry pie. It had a slightly tart-sweet perfect taste with a dusting of sugar across the top of the crust - just like Grandma used to do. My next favorite was the rhubarb. Perfectly tart-sweet chucks with the same crust. Last, the sugar cream. By the time I was able to eat it (notice how many baked goods I had to go thru first... haha !) it was in the refrigerator a week. It was a more solid texture than I'm used to, but that could have been all that frig time. It had a perfect dusting of cinnamon on top. If you come here, do yourself a favor and take an entire pie home with you. ($15). You will be glad you did !

    Lisa's Favorite Breakfast Sandwich

On a day trip to Delphi we ate at Stone House and it was really good! I had the Berry Spinach salad, which I highly recommend. I'm not sure which made the salad more delicious, the candied pecans, fresh strawberry slices, or the sweet and tangy house salad dressing. The full size was plenty but not too much like some full salads can be. My fiancé got The Works salad and said it was really good too. It comes with a ton of toppings so the full size was big but if you are hungry it should be plenty to fill you up. We also got the Lisa's Favorite Breakfast Sandwich. It was a typical breakfast sandwich but the buns are cinnamon bread, making it more unique and delicious. My dad got the taco salad and he said it was really good. It doesn't come with a taco shell like typical taco salads but it has taco ingredients like ground beef, cheese, onion, sour cream, and salsa. Stone House also has an in-store bakery. Later that day we ate some cookies from there, the snickerdoodle and iced oatmeal. Very soft and moist and sweet cookies! So good! I would definitely order cookies from there again, and they also had pies, cupcakes, danishes, and donuts. Parking is on the street but wasn't bad and we were there when it was busy. All in all, the downtown location makes it a convenient place to eat some really delicious food at a good price!

I think I cheated myself by not getting here in time for lunch. And yes, the pies were nearly gone by the time I arrived too. At mid afternoon, I decided to pick up some cookies to go. They were fresh and tasty (even the ones I had the next day). And I was pleasantly surprised by the upbeat attitude of the young man attending the cash register/cookie counter. With good food and demeanor, I would gladly make an effort to get here a bit sooner! Review #2790

Train wreck omelette & cinnamon bread
    Melissa M.

Traveling through and stopped for a late lunch. Started with a wonderful warm and creamy sweet corn chowder. Breakfast is served all day so my husband had the "train wreck" (everything) omelette, the best homemade cinnamon bread and coffee. I had the yummy ultimate 3 cheese grilled cheese on homemade wheat bread. Lastly we had the tart & sweet rhubarb pie. A great little place we highly recommend just off the interstate when traveling in the area. Take a drive around the court house and the 2 mile drive to see the historic bridge. Will stop here again!

It's in a beautiful old building on Main Street.

We just had lunch at the Stone House and it was great, as usual. Today it was meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, a homemade roll, and drink all for $6.75. They have good iced tea and coffee and fountain Coke products. Though they have a full menu, there is a menu board by the front door with the days specials, sandwich and soup of the day, and the day's pies listed. Today there were nine pies: custard, banana, blueberry, blackberry, apple, raspberry, cherry, sugar cream, and sugar-free cherry. In the counter by the cash register they had the usual massive array of homemade cookies, twelve varieties! Unfortunately we were to stuffed to sample the pie and cookies, though you can buy baked goods to go. They have a lunch special every day of the week. This is the lineup: M - Meatloaf T - Chicken Noodle W - Baked Steak T - Beef Pot Roast F - Country Fried Chicken There is seating on the main floor and on a mezzanine level above, a fountain-type counter with stools, as well as maybe another one or two rooms in the back. The feeling is friendly and informal, you will feel cozy and welcome. These gals have been doing their food and bakery thing for a while and just keeps on being consistently good. This is their best location ever, with a building that enhances the feeling of the meal. Great atmosphere, great eats, great value!

Denver omelet. Don't forget the hash browns!
    Donna R.

This is a quintessential diner experience in the best sense. We went for breakfast and each ordered an omelet. Mine was Denver-style, and came chock full of really tasty ham and super fresh veggies. The toast, made from their home-made bread, couldn't have been better. The hash browns were crispy on the outside, seasoned right, just perfect. Obviously no shortcuts taken here. Just good food made right, starting from fresh ingredients.

Ultimate Grilled Cheese with Fresh Baked Vegetable Bread
    Shannalee S.

I am not sure Stone House could get any more down to earth. Stepping through the front door you are greeted by the smell of fresh baked pies and greetings from the waitresses. Again, I found a place with the perfect ice tea. I could drink a whole gallon of the stuff but then remembered I had a long drive back to Indianapolis! Now for my meal...I could not resist having the ultimate grilled cheese with home made vegetable bread. All I can say is that was the best grilled cheese I have had in a long time. Wish I had tomato soup with it but who's complaining...the fries were just as good too. Love the small town feel of this place and a must stop when in town.

When we drove up we were uncertain as it was a little gray building among other storage buildings. But there were about 50 cars surrounding the building. Good sign. Let me be clear, this is not upscale or trendy, but salt of the earth. There was a short line for tables. The place was hopping. The walls were covered with images of Hollywood stars. Many handwritten signs and boards described deserts, specials and featured items. We found seats within 15 minutes. The menu is filled with breakfast and lunch items that are served all day. There are quirky fun items such as sauerkraut balls (which are hand made), pickle fries and stuffed tater tots. The Memorial Day special lunch included a hot dog, hamburger slider, watermelon and a side for $8.99. The slider and watermelon called out to me. When the plate came, I wasn't expecting so much food. The slider was amazing. There were 2 smash burger patties on a nice bun with cheese, sauce and pickle. The slider was good. The slice of watermelon was massive, refreshing and fun. The homemade coleslaw is creamy and delicious. My husband ordered the Breaded Tenderloin. OMG, that tenderloin was about twelve inches in diameter and came with a large roll that dwarfed the pork. The pork was thick with a great peppery breading. He only ate half and took the rest home. We shared an order of the stuffed tater tots that were filled with potato, jalapeño, onion and cheese. Oh man, those are addictive. As we were finishing up, the owner of the restaurant approached our table. Kate Rhine has been owner/cook of The Vintage Cafe for four years. She's been a home cook since she was in fourth grade. She was cheerful and wanted to know how I liked the Memorial Day Special since I was the first to order. I loved the meal. the burger was great and watermelon and coleslaw refreshing. The hot dog was going home with us. Our server, Felicia, was great. She helped describe the menu, was attentive, super friendly and kept water glasses full. Even the fella bussing the tables was amazing and friendly. It was clear these folks were hustling to keep up with the crowd. This cafe is fun and delicious. I can't wait to go back. Thanks, YELP reviewers for leading the way.
