I ordered the Bananas Foster drink (around $7), which was recommended by both baristas, "if you like banana." Unfortunately, it was almost pure white like milk, tasted synthetic, and neither I nor my sister could enjoy it. I kindly asked if it could be remade or replaced with something else, but the staff declined and told me in a very condescending way I'd need to pay again if I wanted a different drink. Which is fine, a simple apology would have also worked. That was disappointing on its own, especially since this has been one of my favorite coffee shops and I've brought plenty of friends, neighbors, and even visiting family here to support the business. What truly drops this review to one star, however, was the shocking response I received from one of the employees. She cussed me out, yelled, flipped me off, threatened to call the cops on me, and screamed for me to never come back--all while I had my baby with me. I've never experienced such unprofessional treatment from a business. I can only hope the owner reviews the cameras from this incident and takes the matter seriously. I really wanted to like Fuel. After all coffee and gluten-free items are perfect for me. So I went there for just the second time to use a gift card my wife got me. I placed my order and showed the clerk the receipt from the previous visit, which also had the gift card number. He couldn't get it to work so I found the original gift card I was sent and gave him the QR code to scan. After he failed to get it to work, he claimed I had already used the entire gift card amount. "That's not true," I said. "I've only been here once before and I showed you the receipt which showed I used $6 something on the $25 gift card." He tried and failed again, claiming there was nothing left on the card. Instead of trying to solve the problem, he advised me to call someone about the gift card. Incredibly poor and inept customer service, wasting my time and wasting the money that still remains on the gift card. Not Fuel. But plenty of other F words come to mind. Fooled (me). Failed. Coffee HOUSE! I used to frequent the old location when they were downtown and then they moved to five points. It is/was a real house that has been converted to a coffee establishment and it works very well! The atmosphere is very homey and inviting, the staff are friendly, and it is not too loud. It is a perfect place to come and do some studying or get some work done. They offer delicious food that is made from scratch and have a wide variety of gluten free options. If you are dining in, they also can serve your drink in a real mug or cup which I really enjoy as it ties the whole coffee house experience together for me. The seats are comfortable and each one has a nice pad so you are not sitting on a hard surface. I really like that the espresso machines are separated a bit from the main sitting area as it keeps the noise of the machines down. All the drinks I have had so far have been great. The flat white was velvety smooth, americano is flavorful but not bitter and the drip coffee had a nice taste to it. I will be trying other coffee variations as I return. This coffee house gets all five stars from me and has quickly become a regular place for me to relax and get some work done when I want to get out of the house. read more

Such a great place for breakfast and coffee. The coffee menu is exactly what you would expect from a well equipped coffee shop. Their food menu has a ton of variety. It contains everything from breakfast burritos to streusel topped pancakes to simple items such as bagels and cream cheese. The staff is very friendly and is more than happy to answer any questions you might have. They also bring your food out to you. There is seating available inside and out. The outdoor seating is usually our table of choice, when you're there early you get to see a parade of dogs walking buy from the local animal shelter and the volunteer dog walkers. Cute coffee shop kind of hidden away. They have street parking and a small parking lot in the back. They have so many choices for coffee and food. Everything I've tried has been flavorful the only thing I'd say is the coffee is too sweet for my taste and I'll ask the employee assisting me if it's sweet or not. Everyone has different taste buds so be aware. Nice sitting area and they have WiFi, they just close early so not an all day place to study. I have heard about this place and had intentions to visit, but haven't had much opportunity to get into downtown Lafayette. So this morning, after a nice breakfast at DT Kirby's, I decided to check it out. Fuel is located on the eastern fringes of the downtown area, away from the bars and restaurants everyone frequents. The decent sized seating area is very cozy, especially on a cold morning, and on a late Saturday morning the place was packed. There is a decent number of drink options, but I'm a plain coffee guy and ended up with the Mexican. Not too strong, it was good black (although I always add cream and sugar, I was having an internal discussion whether to do it this time). There are a number of food options, from bagels and muffins to pancakes and sandwiches. The only drawback is Fuel is only open until 4 pm. This would be a great late night hangout in the cold winter months. Fuel is definitely worth five stars for its great coffee, cozy atmosphere, and friendly employees. read more

The fuel jack is a cafe mocha but with chili pepper in homage to the aztec formulation. The heat goes very well with the chocolate. Fuel has moved from its Main Street location to a converted house on S. 16th St. near the Five Points district. In addition to the great coffee drinks, they serve lunch and breakfast items. The inside is cleanly decorated with hard floors and small tables. A side room has been set up to accommodate children. There is limited off street parking in the back. I didn't see the same amount of traffic that I saw downtown, but it was a cold and snowy Friday morning. I like Fuel. Comfortable environment, good products, and friendly staff. They sell whole beans for take away and will also grind for you. By "grind" I mean the beans of course. The coffee here is strictly platonic. Fuel's decaf beans use Swiss water process. For basic coffee lovers, they generally have three types of roast available. They also have some innovative house drinks. I've had the Fuel Jack which is a hot chocolate espresso drink with some spicy heat. Also the London Fog is good. I think the drink temperature is on the lukewarm side, next time I will ask for extra hot and see how it compares. I've found the service to be excellent and friendly. There are several tables, two tops and four tops. I prefer the two tops in the front window or the stool seating in the back. The other seats are too claustrophobic for me. If I worked or lived downtown, I would stop here more often. read more

I did not end up getting any food, so I can't comment on the food quality or prices. One thing I really look for in a coffee shop is comfortable seating. I'd say Fuel was a bit lacking in that department. That being said, I'm not sure if they'd have room for anything more. They do have a variety of seating options (see pictures). Very friendly staff, great variety of beverages, in house treats, all boasts a taste unique to this place. I really dig the tax aded drink prices! This should be law for all! I had a raspberry latte or something magical my first time here which was amazing. Most recently tried a banana foster. I thought would be a caffeine based flavored beverage but wasn't that great - like an awkward banana trying to fit into the cool espresso party but no one wants to talk to and ends up hidden in the corner. That's what it tasted like, bananas hiding in the corner. Parking is limited and being open only til 3 or 4 limits the chances I get to come here. Yeah! A great little coffee shop, perfect for us sad and sleep-deprived grad students who need a caffeine-and-sugar fix. The staff is always friendly and free with the smiles. The space itself has a really cozy vibe, and even though it's a small hole-in-the-wall establishment there's always seating available. Luckily it's far enough from campus to keep the ruckus of the undergrads away, so we can actually work on our studies! They have a nice variety of drinks, all unique and with cute names, as well as a pretty full menu of food and snacks. Only reason I didn't give them a solid 5 stars is that they are a bit pricey for us broke students (A $6 cinnamon roll and $9.25 breakfast sandwich makes me sad...I still buy it, but I eat it sadly.) It's like your nestled deep within the cultured district of a bigger city all the while enjoying a beautiful cup of coffee. This place has some of the best coffee I've ever had in town.
