Terrible experience! Obviously a poorly managed link of this chain restaurant. Monday night, not overly busy. Took almost an hour to get our food after we ordered. Server didn't even apologize for the wait till we were 45 min into the hour wait. Had to ask twice for some lemon for water (after it had been ordered initially). When food was finally served informed they were out of the carrots that two in our party had ordered and would be another 20-30 mins if we wanted to wait on them (pass). Now after this hour wait, food was lukewarm and mediocre at best. To top everything else off, server was no where to be found when we were all done eating, had to go up to the front and tell someone we wanted the bill now, then waited another 10 min before the tab was delivered. Been to other branches of this chain that were decent, but do yourself a favor and avoid this location! read more

Staying at the hotel across the way from this location and ordered take out two nights in a row because of scheduling conflicts (didn't have time to leave hotel). Ordered on the app and both nights the food was excellent, all items were made correctly and they included silverware, dipping sauces, and napkins. Was very pleased! Not impressed with this visit. We both ordered a steak. They were so salty and a lot of tendon gristle. A good steak doesn't require so much seasoning. The appetizer was good- spinach dip. Very quick to get you seated. The staff was very friendly and show good hospitality. My family has been going here almost 3 times week it's that delicious. The stake and mashed potatoes and gravy is being cooked to profection. We began coming to the Joplin Mo Cheddars August 26, 2018 and returned every Sunday since. Laine became the only waiter we wanted. He is super, stays on it, friendly, gets our drinks quickly, delivers food and checks back on us, and is very efficient. A gold-star waiter. Genuinely Smiles. Sees what needs to be done and DOES it. For starters the hostess was rude and rolling her eyes, we didn't get napkins or forks until our meals came out and the napkins were trash, and every time we asked for something the waitress took forever to come back. Then our food came out and the grilled fish I ordered came out looking like it was microwaved and when I asked them to put it on the grill again it looked exactly the same and was not even hot. And doing all this also took forever, I never even got a refill on the $3 drink I paid for. My friends sandwich wasn't even warm either. The meal came out to $25 with and appetizer and I feel like that's so overpriced considering my entree was taken off. Over all the fish made me want to throw up. Never coming again. read more

Vegetarian critique: I went assuming (based on a Yelp review) that I would have a few options, but that was not the case. The only thing remotely close was the Vegetable Plate which includes 4 sides plus either a salad of one of two soups, both of have have meat. Completely illogical. The food was top notch we had some problems with getting our food spilled on us but they very quickly remade it and the waiter was very apologetic and the manager was superb they made it right and I would definitely come back and highly recommend to anyone traveling. The food is made from scratch and it shows. I had the chicken tenders and shrimp combo. The chicken tenders were solid meat with a light breading along with honey mustard dressing best I have ever had. The shrimp was large with a Cajun seasoning very good. Okay, I have to be honest here. I really like this place. However, it needs to be updated in decor and color. Update the sign! Could be more open inside instead of so many divides. Menu is outdated and needs to either have upgraded dishes or new ones. Suggestion: Challenge the culinary passion! Fresh is ALWAYS better, and fresh is NOT frozen or from a can. The customer will wait to pay for good food, so no need in cutting corners. Keep everything simple, fresh, and delicious! I will be visiting again in a couple of months. All growth is change. I brought in a family of 6 people driving through from Texas. We have eaten at cheddars where we live and it's actually decent food. The waitress was trying her best and was not bad at her job I would give her a 4/5 . The bad part about being a waitress here is that you have to sell the food and my god was it terrible. My lemon pepper chicken was basically burnt on both sides and very dry. My wife's steak she asked for it medium rare and they cooked it barely pink in the middle. I live in the area, and have visited Cheddars many times. As with all restaurants in the JoMo area, they start off with a lot of momentum. Some can sustain it, others fade away. I think Cheddars is in danger of fading away. I have never had a bad meal there, and of all the meals anyone in my party has ever had, there has never been a complaint about the food. Service, however, is a different story. My first bad experience a couple was probably 2009 or 2010. The server took it upon himself to round my change. He owed me some number of dollars, and something like 52 cents. He returned with the correct dollars, but rounded the coins to 50 cents without explanation. If he had owed my 48 cents and rounded to 50, I would have been very generous in my tip. But taking any amount of MY money without explanation angered me, so I wrote on my receipt that I didn't forget the tip, but I purposefully stiffed him because of his choice. I hope he learned from that experience. I'm usually a pretty generous tipper, regularly in the 20 to 25% range. Second bad experience was 2011. Server delivering food to table next to us dropped food, and it splattered on 2 people in my party. Server didn't make any extra effort to clean up, and didn't respond when we pointed out she dropped food on us. I would have expected her to alert manager to come out and try to soothe things over. Third was 5/29/12. Showed up about 6:00 PM on a Sunday evening after visiting relatives in hospital. They were not terribly busy (not empty, either), but it still took over 40 minutes for us to get our food. Server never explained that there might be a delay of any sort. After about 30 minutes I told him that we were very hungry, and the delay was unacceptable. That if our food wasn't there soon, we were walking. I asked to speak to manager. Manager came out and apologized, saying that a group of 20 had just been seated prior to our arrival, and that was causing the delay. We didn't make a scene, but I explained that if that was the case, then they knew about it when I ordered, and they should have done something to set expectations. Come on, man...you don't actually cook anything there as its ordered. All your food is somewhat pre-made, and you just warm it/finish it/toast it prior to serving. You expect me to believe you have someone out back BBQ'ing ribs? Steaks, appetizers, and fish, maybe, but veggies/sides/salads and all that are ready to be dished and served. Our food came out soon after that, and the manager did come by to check on the quality of the food. I explained that the food was good, as usual, but that they were in jeopardy of losing my repeat business. Finally, I had to tell him that if he wanted to have me back as a customer, he was going to have to do something to make it worth my while, like comp my check. He said he would give me a coupon for free meals on my next trip, and I said that was sufficient, and would give them another try. Our return trip was last night, 7/30/2012. I showed our server the coupon, and explained to her that I needed to know right away if there were going to be any restrictions on us being able to redeem that coupon. She took it, and when she came back she said that we could order anything but the Ribeye steak (most expensive item on menu, but still under $15). We ordered no appetizers, and no salads, and it still took over 20 minutes to get our food. They were not busy. I sorta expected that the coupon would be my key to getting quick service, and that the manager might come by to visit. Granted, we were not in a high traffic part of the dining area, but I never saw the manager in the front of the house. This is one of those high churn places...they need to get people in and out to have a decent margin. Even though they have the A/C cranked down, and it was below 70 degrees in there, they can't keep the pace in the kitchen. There are delays in getting people seated, even when there are empty tables. Staff has always been friendly, just varying levels of ability to keep up. My jaded view is there are managers in place that do little to teach, encourage, or model truly excellent service. Maybe being near the highway and next to one of the larger hotels in Joplin, they have sufficient business that these weaknesses can be ignored. My suggestion to anyone staying at the Residence Inn...I know you can walk across the parking lot and have good food. But hop in the car and drive just a little bit, and you can find good food and good service at a lot of other places in town. read more

Lunch today at Cheddars was great. The queso dip with ground beef and tortilla chips was a perfect starter. The grilled chicken pecan salad is excellent. The pecans are glazed which adds sweetness to the salad. Also, the salad is accompanied by a sweet croissant. Service was great. read more

First time trying Cheddar's while visiting from NY. Overall, a pretty good experience! Started with the Triple Treat Sampler & liked it a lot - (consisted of (mozzarella) cheese bites, potato skins & chicken tenders with dipping sauces). I decided to try something listed under "lighter side", the Grilled Baja Chicken which came with black beans & rice while my boyfriend went for the Chicken Fried Steak. I asked the waitress for the pico de gallo on the side. At that time, she mentioned it would be kind of spicy (meaning the pico de gallo, I thought)?. When I got the meal I spooned a little sauce on & it wasn't as spicy as I expected. I then tasted just the chicken alone & the seasoning on the chicken itself was quite a bit spicy (to my liking). Besides the (spicy) chicken, the rest was a bit bland. Guess that's what I get for trying to go lighter... I ate about half anyway & decided to save some room for dessert cause they had a good-lookin' bread pudding! Oh, by the way, my boyfriend liked his dish a lot! (He skipped the "lighter side")... The bread pudding, what we could eat of it at that point, was just delectable! It came warm & was topped with ice cream, whipped cream & I think a caramel sauce. - A very happy ending :-) *Just a thought: Portions are pretty big! Would've been better to split one dish between us after the appetizer... The service was great! Our waitress was nice & kept checking on us often! The place was pretty packed too so we were very impressed! We've been to way less busy establishments & have had really shitty service so... great job/5 STARS as far as service goes Cheddar's!!!. Also, the prices were very reasonable! I almost thought there was a mistake when we got the bill. I had to do a double take! Horrible service, took server 30 mins before to take our order, even though they weren't busy. Our food did not come out @ the same time. My husbands mashed potatoes were cold. After we finally got our servers attention she came over & took his plate back, it wasn't to long after that he received his food but this time the server spilled food & sauce all over my husband. Once you've eaten at one Cheddar's, you've pretty much eaten at them all. Their good is usually good, portions are pretty big and the price is a good value. The service is usually never stellar. It's not horrible by any means, but, like another person said, they're not in a rush. You'll probably have to ask for refills and condiments more than once. Too hungry to take my usual pictures but the salmon with bourbon glaze sauce (Stephanie, our awesome server brought extra!) was AMAZING! Green beans and broccoli rice casserole completed my delicious meal after 8 hours on the road (family vacation!). My mom devoured her chicken fried chicken, with mashed potatoes and green beans and my kiddo loved her French fries and grilled cheese. Quite crowded for a Tuesday night but we were seated almost immediately. My only complaint is the a/c that was blowing on half the table (my side) but baits that's because it was a balmy 91 when we came in at 7:30. Keep up the great work Joplin Cheddars! Very good food for a reasonable price! I really enjoy the chicken strips and the lemon pepper catfish! They have a wide variety of food so it's the perfect place to go when you can't quite make up your mind for lunch or dinner. They also have very good drink specials! My biggest complaint is the service. It is very inconsistent, mostly with the hostesses. read more

Really nice atmosphere that is more upscale than the menu pricing. The food is OK, but many of the items seem generic and cheaply sourced - probably how their prices are a bit lower than average. Cheddars used to be significantly cheaper than other similar establishments but their prices have crept upwards. One thing that has consistently been problematic is service. Sometimes it's ok, but it's often unreliable. Overall the food is decent, sometimes above average and it's a nice atmosphere with decent prices, which is why it's almost always packed. I like Cheddars but it's rarely my first pick when dining in Joplin. read more
