Have tried restaurant at different locations over a time period of years and it has only been a continuous disappointment. Decided to give it a hopeful visit on 5/19/23. Should mention in this area there is quite a selection of food establishments to choose from, just wanted to give this one another chance since it had been awhile. I ordered the shrimp pasta, and the hubby had the grilled lemon pepper white fish over a bed of white rice. First the shrimp pasta dish came with broccoli in it which I requested to be cooked hard not steamed. The dish came out with the just thrown in the dish, not even mixed in the pasta. The shrimp was overly seasoned with Old Bay which made it extremely salty, also two different types of shrimp in the dish; some with tails and some without. The Alfredo was the most disappointing of all, totally watered down liquid! A jar of sauce could have been faked better! Sent backed to the kitchen, for another meal chosen off the menu, another fail also. As for the hubby's dish, fish also over seasoned and plain white rice. The place had continual patrons that seemed to enjoy the selection placed, while I on the other hand kept thinking if Gordon Ramsey was here I could hear the yelling! I'm done with this review and this brand! read more

Now I love cheddars, and I come here often, but this is by far the worst experience I've ever had at one of their restaurants. So for one, we came on a weeknight and the hostess told us it was going to be 30 min wait. We didn't mind waiting, however we ended up waiting over an hour for our table. Once we were seated the waiter took another 15 minutes to come to us. Once we ordered our food took so long that they were practically closed. Because they took so long we requested that our food just be put in togo boxes because we all had to get home to other responsibilities. Now I wouldn't have even left this review because time isn't something that restaurants have much control of and I understand that. However, when I returned home to eat my food, i got to the bottom of my soup and found an EXPIRATION LABEL at the bottom of my container. How disgusting?? Management wasn't helpful at the restaurant with the extreme wait time we experienced or when I called to complain about stickers being in my soup. Needless to say I won't be returning. read more

Have not been here in awhile and my daughter and I decided to try it today and we were really disappointed. Waitress was bad, brought out the croissants dripping in butter and no napkins had to ask her 3 times. Waitress brought out salad and no silverware again had to ask. I had the sirloin and it tasted like it was drenched in salt. My daughter had the fish and the texture was not good. I don't recommend. read more

I am honestly so upset and disappointed. I came in at 4pm on a weekday, was sat in a section where the waitress only had 2 other tables and wasn't asked what beverage we would like to drink until 15 minutes after we were sat. After that it took at least another 10 minutes for us to get the waters we asked for. We were served the 2 complimentary croissants, but upon taking a bite they were extremely cold and the butter had completely solidified. When we asked our waitress about it she said they had been sitting in a warmer and shouldn't have been so cold. She did bring us fresh ones however they had no flavor like others had described to us. Now to get into the actual food, we both ordered burgers with fries. I ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger and my partner ordered the Smokehouse burger. Both burgers came out soggy and you could tell they were frozen patties, the bacon wasn't crispy and the fries were so very clearly old. We both tried drenching our fries with salt and pepper to give them just a little better taste and covered them in ketchup but they couldn't be saved. Not to forget the smokehouse burger which was supposed to be covered in bbq sauce had barely any on the bun. Honestly I would highly recommend NOT eating or dining at this place. I am so dissatisfied. read more

Had dinner here tonight with my family to celebrate birthdays. What a mistake. We got seated quickly but took a while to place our order. When we FINALLY got it, we had no utensils. When asked the server for them she said ok and we never saw her again. After a few minutes, asked another server to get them and by then our meals were lukewarm warm. My grandson didn't get his meal until the rest of us were almost finished. Poor poor service and mediocre food. Will not be back! read more

Cheddar's deserves a 4 star for food but yet again service knocks it down to a 3 star. I would have kept it at 4 stars but the place was empty-ish for my late lunch and I still had horrible wait time for drink and food. I sat at the bar hoping to guarantee good service as there were only two other people sitting there but no luck. I sat for 10 minutes without an acknowledgement as several servers passed me by...I will point out they were not the bartender; however, a simple I'll get someone to help you would have gone a long way. I ordered a tall beer and the cheese fries on the appetizer menu. The beer came quickly (obviously) :). The fries took a while which I'm sure is expected as I prefer quality over thrown together food. I laughed when the fries came out b/c my goodness this is an appetizer that could easily satisfy 3 (maybe 4) people. I did not see the bartender for a while after receiving the fries. After he appeared again it took me another 15 minutes to flag him down for another drink. (Still now only 1 person at the bar and a couple of tables I saw him serving in the bar area). When I got my 2nd beer I asked for a meal for my kids to go and my check to make sure I did not wait past the beer. Unfortunately it took 25 minutes for my to go to be delivered (kids chicken tenders and fries). Even worse the bartender didn't appear at all during that wait time. Not once. I hate it when service ruins a meal...but I would understand it more if there was communication. The disappear or don't acknowledge service is what burns me up. There are a ton of great places in town and this place has the opportunity to be an awesome happy hour spot (my husband asked me to check it out for lunch to see if it can be our new happy hour spot) but I'm not sure if happy hour would be better. Next time I visit I'm going to try just drinks and see how it goes. read more

I ordered the Caesar pasta salad. I was literally given 10 pieces of pasta, which I think they took off my daughter's chicken pasta meal and placed on my salad. This is unacceptable and I'm livid. Best waiter in this town is (Davis), he checked in on us, made some jokes here and there, and made sure everyone's food was good. The food was pretty good, and simplistic. The reason for the 4 star is because there weren't a lot of vegetaran options. There cheese was definitely on point though. Their dessert was also really good, attached is the dessert picture. This place is a must try at the Town Center. Prices are reasonable, service is really friendly and they have large menu so there's something for everyone. The Key West Chicken & Shrimp is a must try, with a good amount of marinated shrimp and chicken served on rice with some pico de gallo on top. Add some black beans and you've got the perfect meal. I'd come back here for sure when I'm in the area and maybe they'll open a couple locations in Northern VA soon. read more

I took my in-laws out to dinner after picking them up from the airport. I was embarrassed that I took them to Cheddars- 1st the server took forever to acknowledge us & get us our drinks before finally taking our order. I know it's a scratch kitchen- but I am feeling that's an excuse for slow service. We also had to wait over tenminutes before we could ask for boxes & the check. 2nd it was so dirty- the floors are disgusting, there was potatoes on the wall of the booth we sat in (I discovered this when my elbow landed in the cold sticky mess) & the bathrooms- really really gross. Toilet paper and urine all over the floor. 3rd it was loud- like bar scene loud- we could barely have a conversation. I know controlling the noise level is difficult- but the whole experience just was awful. As much as I love the food- I may have to pass on the dine in & opt for take out next time. read more

Cozy American cooking at price points that are UNBEATABLE. With the new wave of expansion in the town center, Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen is a staple of these development efforts. Their menu is very diverse and big with a lot of selection to choose from. Even the pickiest of people will have something they will like on the menu. Serving size is definitely the most bang for your buck The ambience and atmosphere is very casual with a hint of formality that is inviting. The food wasn't very great and we waited an hour to get it to the table once seated. The service was also very slow.

Absolutely terrible. Fortunately my server was kind and efficient however, the food is terrible. I ordered a simple medium rare burger and received it well done. My friends burger was so hard you could hear it scrape the table. I got a remake and the burger was soggy and unseasoned. I don't think the cooks can butter bread or make a bowl of cereal. read more

We came on a Tuesday at 6 and didn't have to wait for a table. The server was nice and we got our food quickly, I got the country fried steak which looks huge when you get it but is actually mostly breading with a small steak on the inside. It was really salty. The potatoes were good and I did like the gravy. I also got the broccoli casserole which is just cheesy rice and broccoli. It was good not great. My husband got the 8 oz steak with beans and rice and mashed potatoes. He really enjoyed his and I tried his steak. It was awesome seasoned and cooked perfectly and the price was great. Seriously?!?! I have been here three times now. My first time was a 4 star visit. My previous was a 3 because it has become mediocre, the last and most recent is a 1! I absolutely hate writing 1 star reviews, however this last visit has sealed the deal for me. Even though I love their chicken tenders and cheese bites the service and lack of care for the customers has driven me away On my last visit, we arrived around 5:45 on a Friday. I knew there would be a long wait so no big deal. We decided we would go into the bar area and grab some drinks. So that is what we attempted to do. We stood at the bar and waited to be served, and waited, and waited. We waited for about 5 minutes while the bar tenders talked and joked around with each other and made drinks coming in for the diners sitting at tables. So I went to a bartender placing drinks at the expediting area and asked if we could order. I was instructed to go to the other side of the bar and wait. I told him I had been waiting and no one would acknowledge us, even when we asked for assistance. He said he would make sure someone came to take our order. So after about 10 minutes, we were able to order drinks and got them in a fair amount of time. We went out to the waiting area and were called for our table a short time later. We were taken back to the bar area to be seated. We were greeted by our waitress who stated two different people would be helping us. I thought, cool, awesome, we are going to get good service. Not so much. We ordered our non-alcoholic drinks and a couple appetizers. It took a little while but we did get our waters, a sprite and then our apps. When they came back, we ordered another alcoholic drink. Not something crazy, just a vodka lemonade. We then ordered our meals. About 20 minutes later, still no drink. We asked our waitresses when they came back and they looked completely dumbfounded about the drink. They had forgotten to put it in but didn't want to tell us that. They finally brought that out. Then came the meals.... Two of us ordered the Cajun pasta and 1 ordered a steak medium. The two pastas came out and they had obviously made them in one pan, dumped out a bunch in one and a little into the second. We asked the waitress why the portions were so different and she just said she didn't know and walked away, so a manager came around and we told/showed him. By the way, the pasta was also cold as if they finished it then forgot about the steak and put the pasta up to wait until the steak was done and the toast was rock hard. He offered to remake the pasta "quickly" we said okay. So he brought back two hot pastas. Unfortunately, while the first were made with grilled large shrimp, the other came back with tiny boiled type shrimp and the sauce was all watered down. The steak was cooked rare. Not medium rare but really really rare. Our party didn't even eat our dishes. But the check sure came fast! We paid, left a way too generous tip with a note that we were very displeased with our service and our phone number (no call) and left to go get something sweet to make us happy again. After this last experience, I will no longer recommend this restaurant. I feel bad I have now subjected my family and my friends to a restaurant that has failed to meet their expectations which are considerably lower than mine. I am bummed and feel like this restaurant cares about their bottom line only, not the customers. read more

I've visited this restaurant about 3-4 times now. A couple times 5 years ago around the time they first opened and 2 more times the past two months. The food is decent. In August, I got the grilled salmon, hubby and son got the chicken tenders with fries. Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs so we had too many fries. The fries were over cooked for our liking and kinda too salty. Of course with all the cheese and bacon but just a little too much. My salmon is was cooked and seasoned well. The baked potato could have been cooked a little longer and had more butter. The chocolate fudge sundae cake was sooooo good. If you like watermelon, the frozen margarita is was so good and STRONG! Our most recent trip, I got the meatloaf and double potatoes: mashed and baked. I love carbs. This second go at the baked potato was better! The potato was cooked well that I didn't struggle to mix it up with the cheese and butter. As always, the honey butter croissants were a hit! So warm, so buttery, so sweet, so flaky. Our son is the reason why we went again recently. Back in August, we had Luke as our waiter. He was absolutely fantastic! So sweet, big smile and helpful when I was choosing my meal. The last time we had Destiny. She waited on us and also worked the bar. She as so quick, beautiful smile and my son heard her singing a little. He complimented her on her voice. I wish I knew the other wait staff because they were so helpful too. Great restaurant, helpful staff and good location at the town center. It's close but not crowded in the congestion. We definitely will come back. read more

Food cold and service was horrible. Manager came out.. waitress to busy socializing.. I will never go back..

My niece ordered the chicken strips. I ordered the chicken with gravy mashed potatoes and red beans and rice. She ordered the frozen strawberry margarita and I ordered the house margarita on the rocks. We both enjoyed our meals. The portions are large. The style is texas comfort food. Due to limited seating the wait time was 45 minutes at 6 pm, so we sat at the bar and ordered so there was no wait. A friend had recommended the meatloaf, but sadly they took it off the menu. Nice modern decor, and fast service. I would definitely return. My only criticism is that they should go easy on the salt in the food. read more

Very good! Came in with high expectations and they were exceeded! Ask for Zach to be your server! He had great recommendations and you can tell he really cared about what we wanted.I got Texas Sweet tea, onion rings, and the Country Fried Chicken. Texas sweet tea: large serving, deceptively strong, its a very good drink for $5. It also tastes good and sweet? Onion rings: freakin delicious! Light, crispy and very well seasoned. Might be my favorite onion rings now. Country fried Chicken: Fantastic! I recommend getting the dinner portion because you get a whole other piece of chicken for about 1-2 dollars more (I don't remember exactly) the gravy that goes on the chicken is awesome too! Sides: I got Mac and cheese and green beans. Both are bomb.com but especially the Mac and cheese. Idk what it is. It's buttery cheesy? I don't know the words to describe them. read more

There are plenty of great eateries around the town center area, with tasty dishes and daring menu choices. Places where you enjoy the atmosphere and go on a culinary experience. This is not one of them! This is the kind of place where you dwell in mediocrity. If you want a no frills place that won't leave a lasting impression, you came to the right place! If you want to forget where you ate last night, Cheddar's is for you. If you want a main course of bland, with a side of bland, choose anything from their menu. I guarantee it will not disappoint. You will find nothing erring on the side of "too tasty". If you love Chili's, Applebee's or TGI Friday's, but think it's not appropriate to take a date to, yet you still want your perfectly boring meal, this is THE place for you! Enjoy.. read more

The Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen at the Town Center is a strange little restaurant. On one hand, the food's pretty damn good and inexpensive. On the other hand, the service can be downright bizarre along with other odd parts of the restaurant. Combine that with a huge wait on most nights and you'll be scratching your head as you try to figure the place out. Our night started at the bar, because of the aforementioned wait time, and it was ok for the most part. The bar was packed with patrons all staring at their plastic devices hoping it would vibrate and flash so they could be released from the alcoholic limbo and into the proper dining area. You'd think that the bartenders would be on top of things when 90% of their customers were just killing time until a table popped up. Sadly, they weren't up to the task of quick turnaround and high touch service. They were slow, forgetful, and easily flustered. Thank goodness our party was chatting away about the holiday craziness or else we would've ALL noticed the painful delays in getting our drinks. When our plastic doohickey finally flashed we were escorted to a booth in the bar area. 20 feet, at best, from where we were seated. A waiter came by and quickly asked about our drink and appetizer choices. Quickly, being the operative word. Everything he did was fast, and not in a good way. He took orders fast and moved onto the next guest before the previous one had finished talking. He moved by our table fast making it hard to flag him down. He spoke fast and everything about him felt hurried. If excellent customer service had been paired with that speed then he singled-handedly would've earned Cheddar's a 5 star rating. Alas, he went to the same school of customer service as the bartenders. Now the food was good and in large supply. Easily two meals per entree. I want to come back just to try the other items on the menu. That's as far as I'll get on the food because the weirdness in the bathroom is what I have to spend the rest of this review on. The men's bathroom by the bar is a tiny thing. Almost a closet in size with one urinal, one stall, and a sink crammed next each other. Very little room to maneuver if you have several occupants and ZERO room to just loiter. I went in after my meal to wash hands and dispense liquids. A pretty standard visit. When I walked in, there was a guy with his cell phone pinched between his shoulder and ear while he put on his belt. It looked like your normal "I'm getting ready to leave" behavior. I squeezed by him and went to the single urinal. The guy, to my dismay, hung around jabbering away on his cell phone. He was leaning on the little space between the sink and the rest of the bathroom as if it was his own private office. I looked back at him and noticed he was a friggin' employee of Cheddar's. I understand stepping away for a quick call, but go out the back or anywhere other than an incredibly cramped bathroom and mere feet from someone trying to use the facilities. It was uncomfortable to say the least. More people came in as I was washing my hands and the dude still yammered on his phone, in the way of everyone going to and fro, giving zero f-s about anything. It was such a weird experience that I had to share it with my friends at the table. The slow bartenders, fast waiter, and strange bathroom employee were just a little too bizarre for my first visit to Cheddar's. If it weren't for the good food and a menu worth returning for, I'd give this place 1 star and never come back. It's obvious the staff needs some serious training and maybe a refresher course on decent manners. read more

I have a long time relationship with Cheddar's. They've been around in TX since I was a kid. It was cool seeing one open here in Jax. Friends have raves about the tower of onion rings for about $5 and just all around price friendly menu. We sat at the bar when we came here to avoid the wait. Our bartender was friendly but not overly attentive. We started out with the queso (you can add ground beef for free). This also came with salsa and chips. I really liked the texture of the chips and the dips were flavorful. I then remembered about my friend's review of the onion rings. We placed an order. Tower. A tower of onion rings. I can't believe how many you got and for only about $5! This is definitely shareable! I really liked the dipping sauces too. For our meal... I was craving a burger, though it should've told me something when there were only 2-3 burgers to choose from. Cheddar's is not known for their burgers. Y'all. This burger came out shiny... and completely soaked in grease. We got the bacon cheeseburger and just wow. Like grease dripping down my arm and face and NOT in a good way. The meat was not seasoned at all and lacked any sort of salt. I honestly just was not impressed. I could do without. That makes me sad that this was not a happy reunion. I may try again in a few months when they've had a chance to regulate things. read more

Who doesn't like comfort food on a chilly night? I've never been here and thought I'd give it a try. Arrived in Saturday night to find a large crowd at the entrance waiting for tables. The wait was 35 minutes... always a good sign, that means I'm in for a good meal. When a tabletop opened up in the bar we grabbed it. Our waiter was very slow the entire night. At times he was no where to be found. The service provided was disappointing. They ran out of coleslaw which surprised me so the waiter offered a salad for no charge. The salad was supposed to be brought before my food however my meal came first then salad after. Needless to say I had too much food at one time so I brought home the majority of my main dish. My friend had the lighter side salmon and said it was okay but the side of green beans that chose were cold. We both were disappointed in our experience. May come back since they have a large menu and the soup looks good but won't rush to go back quiet yet. read more

Not very impressed. Did not live up to the hype. Very good menu at first glance, but I didn't enjoy my food very much. I ordered the country fried steak. The one great thing about the food is the portion size. Flavor, however, was lacking. Fair warning, if you are in a hurry to eat this is the wrong restaurant to come to. Service was slow the night I came, and our waiter apologized for the mistakes he made since he was taking finals. But, the food is fresh and delicious and reasonably priced. The drinks are even a good price, which can be hard to find in a world of overpriced drinks. So Cheddar's has opened up at the Town Center. We've been looking to give this place a try. After an evening of shopping, we decided that would be the night. We got there about 9pm on a Saturday and were told that the wait would be about 20 minutes. We probably didn't wait that long and we were escorted off to our table. My wife tried to order a Michelob Ultra and they were out. At least they had Blue Moon. We initially ordered the Spinach Dip appetizer. After the dip was delivered, we ordered our dinner. This was pretty good but nothing too spectacular. A few issues here. We finished our dip but for some reason they didn't want to clear it from the table. We also had to wait a while before we got our dinner. It seemed like my dinner was waiting under "the lights" for a while. I ordered the Cajun pasta dish which I've had at other locations. It was a bit dried out. My wife had the ribs and shrimp. She thought it was good but nothing special. Our waitress was pretty good. She checked on us a few times throughout our visit. As we were leaving, the hostess gave us the obligatory "thanks", but it felt very forced. So not a great experience but not horrible either. read more

Aesthetically, Cheddars' beautiful. Their foods are reasonably priced and well portioned. My only bone to pick is the service. I can only speak for the bar and its services. I've been here at least 3-4 times since they opened and never sat in their dining room. There always seems to be a wait so we opted for the massive bar they have. The last time I was there was the final visit. Per usual, they're busy and lines are out the door. We sat at the bar and ordered beer and asked for water. The water glass still has food residue in it, I asked for a new one and the bartender seems like it bothered him. He gave me a new one but slammed it so it spilled all over the counter. We're now trying to clean it up and sat with soaked napkins the whole time. We used the bar napkins for dinner. My food came 10-15 min before my party. Halfway through dinner I realized I never got my salad. We asked the bartender, he brought it out when we almost finished with our dinner. Our drinks sat empty after the initial pour. No one checked on our food or service. The bartenders openly complained about the tips amount received. One guy in particular was cussing every time a drink ticket went through. However, our check was before us before we asked for it. Needless to say, this was the occurrence pretty much every time we're there. The staff are overworked and undertrained, hence the piss poor services. read more
