Closing message

Let me first state the i like this restaurants food , but their overall customer service needs a lot of work. My wife and i had a taste for their dinner today. We tried to order online. they were not accepting online orders. We tried calling and received a message that party called was busy and could not answer. My wife decided to drive anyway to get our food. We live by the airport so this is not a short drive, When she arrived, there was sign in the door that says they were closed from March 23- March 30. In west days of technology, would be too much to ask that this be shared on their website, or on their phone. This is not the first time this has happened. It will be the last though. I will not share and positive toughts about this place with others, and it ever be a late choice for my family. I hope they learn to do better, but we will be back anytime soon

This place is a very simple but their food is very good and tasty. I love their chicken and mashed potatoes. I haven't had any issues with them and will continue supporting them.

ARE THEY OPEN FOR THANKSGIVING?? Come to this place and for ~ $20 you can have a Beyoncé Homecoming party in your mouth. I sweatergod! I ordered the oxatail meal over mashed potatoes with macaroni and cheese and cabbage on the side. Along with accoutrements Collard Greens and Yams a meal to remember. I tried everything in the car and found myself eating the whole meal in the driver seat!! Couldn't put that plastic fork down Go try this place please, all the food was good!

Great restaurant! Was clean inside with clean bathrooms too. Gives an 80s,90s vibe with the decor and music that was playing (very nice touch). We went as a family and we all got chicken plates... THE CHICKEN, it was so hot, crispy, fresh, perfectly seasoned.... I actually cried, lol (my favorite meal my momma made was fried chicken and it came close to hers). I got Lima beans and Mac n cheese with mine and phew... this is legit southern cooking! I'm so happy that I found this place and it's not far from my husbands work (so he will now be responsible for being home a chicken box in Friday's)

Their food might be good but their service is lousy, I didn't ask the motor or manager when I have a second cashier and gave me some excuse but then the food won't be twice as good I placed an order and I've been waiting over 20 minutes for my order, and then when I ask for a cup of water he want to charge me $.27 telling me nothing is for free

Do not order their meat loaf this is not right at all why own a business in be cheap this is not how their meat loaf looks on the website nasty fr this business is a disgrace to the city of Jacksonville

YA'LL!! OH..M...Gee this soul food restaurant is the bomb diggity! I had been craving some southern fried chicken and collards like my gramma used to make and boy did this not disappoint! My gramma would be proud of this fried chicken! I am so glad we drove all the way out here from Mandarin because we don't have yummy soul food out here! I will be going back for that smothered pork chop I saw another patron get! My hubby and I both had the fried chicken. My sides were collards, mac n cheese and black eyed peas. We washed it down with the peach cobbler but forgot to get pics of the cobbler but don't worry, we will be back and I won't disappoint you next time! Do not let the name or outside appearance scare you just go in and thank me later!

Smothered Fried Chicken lunch portion was finger lickin' good!

Not so much MSG on the smothered pork chops. Or those pork chops were cheap and poorly sourced.

Even at that time there was a steady flow of customers but not a line to wait in so it was perfect. Parking is a bit weird here. You just get in where you fit in. The location is not obvious at all from any main road. That said, put it in your GPS and go because it's worth seeking out. This is a takeaway spot. You walk up to the window and order and they bring the order out to you when it's ready. Everyone was very nice and helpful. I opted for the 2 meat plate with 2 sides: smoked oxtails (which were deboned so there was plenty of meat), brisket, mac & cheese and collards. Both meats were crazy soft and flavorful. The mac was a bit softer than I prefer but the flavor was great and I had no problem eating it all up. Collards were very good as well but did have bones in them so watch out for that. There was rice under the meats that was soooo good from sitting in the juices. Overall a fantastic plate that I got a few meals out of. Will definitely return and recommend.

Very good. This is more of a take the food to go ambiance. I drove up in their half circle. Parked and ordered from their window.

The inside is nothing fancy (which is fine). The chef‑owners who are James Beard finalists, which naturally raises expectations. However, after multiple visits, the overall experience has not matched the level of hype surrounding the restaurant. Portion sizes relative to pricing remain the primary concern, making the value feel uneven despite the appealing setting. I work in the area and have gone with several office mates. We've tried several dishes and sandwiches but still can't understand the extreme hype. I was told the Chorizo was spicy and it was so bland I felt like I was eating Hilshire Farms kielbasa. Pros: * Outdoor Dining - Pleasant outdoor dining area that provides a comfortable place to relax * Service - Consistently friendly service and a casual neighborhood feel * Variety - Menu crafted by highly regarded chef‑owners with strong culinary credentials * Location - Murray Hill location for a laid‑back meal or meet‑up * The best dish on the menu has been the pork sandwich - which is half a sub roll and plantain chips Cons: * Pricing - Pricing feels high for the portion sizes (e.g., three chicken legs at $23) * Expectations - Overall experience does not fully align with the restaurant's reputation * Some dishes feel more modest than expected given the cost Chancho King is a great place to unwind in the neighborhood, but the pricing-to-portion balance left me wanting more.

Some restaurants surprise you with one great dish. Others deliver a memorable experience from start…read moreto finish. Our visit to Biscottis in Jacksonville's Avondale neighborhood managed to do both. We were greeted warmly when we arrived and seated immediately, and the atmosphere had a welcoming energy that made the restaurant feel like a true neighborhood gathering place. Susan ordered the Quiche Lorraine, and after the first bite we both knew it was something special. The crust was delicate and buttery while the filling was rich and perfectly balanced. It was so impressive that we awarded it our Culinary Duo Best of the Best dish recognition, which is something we reserve for truly standout dishes. Peter went in a different direction and ordered the Sweet Potato Pancakes with house made white cheddar hash browns. The pancakes were flavorful and comforting, and the hash browns were crispy with bold cheddar flavor that made them impossible to stop eating. Another thing we appreciated was learning that Biscottis carries the Slow Food First Coast Snail of Approval, recognizing restaurants that support sustainable agriculture and local food traditions. The service throughout the visit was cheerful and attentive, and the staff seemed genuinely happy to be there. If you enjoy restaurants that combine great brunch dishes, incredible desserts, and a lively neighborhood atmosphere, Biscottis is definitely worth visiting.

The burger is greasy/wet, it is drenched in a bland cheese sauce, the meat is underseasoned, and the patty has no sear. Definitely not worth anything near the $21 cost. The salmon BLT is served on bread that is cut so thick you're mostly just eating old/stale bread, and the sandwich is also greasy. Their french fries come drenched in a disgusting garlic oil and cheap grated parmesan. It's bad cooking dressed up to look fancy without any understanding of the basics. The restaurant fits as well. Its ugly artwork is accompanied by furniture that looks like it was ripped out of a Le Pain Quotidien. The cakes look amazing, and the bar is nicely designed and well stocked, but neither saves the drab surrealist-cafeteria vibe of this pretentious establishment.

We came in through the back since we wanted to sit outside. It was a little hot, but the outdoor area was still enjoyable with a big shade tree in the middle. Definitely a good vibe on the patio. We ordered our food and, for how slow it was inside, the wait felt longer than it should have been. The restaurant wasn't very busy at all, with more people sitting outside than inside. Unfortunately, most of the food came out lukewarm. My roast beef sandwich and potatoes were barely warm, like they'd been sitting for a while, and the bottom bread was completely soaked. Our daughter's grilled cheese came out with the cheese not even melted, so we sent that back along with my sandwich. The salmon and quinoa also arrived lukewarm. The fried fish was cooked too long in the fryer and wasn't great. The bright spot was the short rib tacos my wife ordered. She said those were really good and probably the best thing we had. I do want to give credit where it's due. Our server was incredibly kind, attentive, and professional. He genuinely saved the experience for us and handled everything with a great attitude. Bathrooms were also clean, which I always appreciate. Overall, the experience was average. Not a top pick for me, but I'd be open to giving it another try in the future to see if things improve. Just wanted to leave an honest review of our visit.
