I really love this place. I've been mostly vegetarian for 35 years, vegan at home, eggs on road, fish once in a while. I've been here six times or so. It's a bit rustic, located in a cool old storefront of a 50-60's strip. The veg chicken and burgers I've had were delicious and filling. The staff has been so nice. We ordered the 5 pc Buffalo Wingz , Chickun Fries, Muenster Cheeze Fries, Bless Yer Heart, Spicy Chickun Fry, and the Mac N' Cheeze. Only thing we weren't in love with was the Mac N' Cheeze but I know how hard it is to get Mac N' Cheeze to be spot on with vegan ingredients so I will still give it a 4/5. I wanted to like it. I just didn't. The place looks dodgy, but if the food would have tasted good, that may have been overlooked. My slides were literally sticking to the floor too! There were 2 ladies working. One seemed a bit overbearing with the other worker. Like she was Queen Hillbilly. Anyway, I tried a biscuit from this place last year and thought I just ordered the wrong thing. The shrimp in this po'boy were tough and overcooked. The shrimp needed more seasoning too. The sandwich was more bread than anything. For $15, I definitely expected better. The fries were weird af. I'm not sure if they fried them twice in old grease or how they made potatoes dunked in grease so unappealing. There were small crunchy over cooked fries mixed in with limp undercooked fries. They did not seem to have any salt or seasoning on the fries either. I got my order to go, because the dark atmosphere was not my vibe. I'm glad this place is an option for those who enjoy it. I've ordered takeout from Murray Hillbilly three times now, with my most recent order being last Friday evening. I ordered the buffalo ranch chicken sandwich as a combo with fries and lemon pepper wings. This is the first vegan restaurant I've come across that offers vegan chicken wings, and I love the sugarcane stick they use as the 'bone'--it really adds a nice touch of authenticity. For this order, I also added a piece of vegan bacon to my sandwich for an extra $3. Unfortunately, when I got home, I realized they forgot the bacon. While it wasn't worth going back just for that, the oversight was a bit frustrating, especially considering the extra charge. Overall, the food was great as always. This place reminds me of Evolve in Daytona Beach, another vegan restaurant with similar offerings. Despite the higher prices, which is typical for vegan spots, this place is definitely becoming a go-to for me. I have a sweet tooth and the Bless Your Heart burger with its sweet orange sauce was a perfect balance of tangy sweet and savory. Fries were just the right amount of crispiness, and all for a reasonable $14. The staff were so friendly, and the food came out hot and fresh in minutes. They even have vegan household and personal items for sale including laundry detergent, soaps, hair detanglers, shirts, and more. Here with my bf. He is new to world of vegetarian and veganism. I just started 3 days ago. I loved the ability to have something hot, satisfying, and that tastes similarity to what I recognize in the world of meat. I tried the Bless yer heart chicken sandwich which I found to be delicious with a side of coleslaw. My bf got the Buffalo fried chickun sandwich, fries and wings. I preferred my sandwich better but he felt this was the best he had since he started this journey a little over a month ago. Service was quick. Behind the counter staff was helpful in explaining what everything was made off. The setting is cool and no-frills. They offer table games while you wait. I'm going to start this review out by saying I'm not a vegan, so take that with a grain of salt. I was visiting my best friend in Jax and she was raving about this place, so we decided to go! I ordered the Buffalo Ranch Chickun Sandwich - minus the buffalo. And I'm not gonna lie, it wasn't amazing, but I don't have anything else to compare it to...veganwise. The sandwich altogether with the ranch, lettuce, and bun was fine...but if I ate one of the fake chicken cutlets alone it was pretty chewy and gummy. But again, I don't have anything to compare it to besides the real thing. So it was fine. The ranch however was 10/10 and the fries were also really good. I would like to check out there burgers because sadly, I don't think the chickun sammy was for me. Love they have little games on the table though. It made the wait for food pretty quick! read more

Anytime I have a friend or coworker in town for a weekend, I'll bring them to the Arts Market, maybe the Art Museum if it's a free day, then take a short drive over to Murray Hillbilly for a late lunch. That's a perfect Saturday to me! I've never been big on Southern fare, but they made it vegan, and the food is GOOD. But you don't need to be vegan to enjoy it. The BBQ chickun in some of their sandwiches, like The Bubba, is delicious. I also really enjoy their mouth watering mac & cheese! Its a really casual and chill place, you order at the counter and take a seat in their spacious dining area. The cashiers are always friendly, and the kitchen makes the food fresh. Downgrading my review to a 3 because was disappointed with today's visit. We went in tot try the brunch. There is a sign on the front window as well as inside advertising Sunday Brunch. Yea when we tried to order were told not offering the brunch today. Hmm well it's Sunday and you have signs up advertising the brunch. Is it only on certain Sunday? Nope... according to cashier "we haven't had brunch for a few weeks bc we are short staffed". UM what? How is being short staffed mean you can't offer a whole section of your menu? If you have staff there taking orders and cooking food then why say can't do brunch menu only regular menu? It just absolutely makes no sense. May be you can't offer full menu and brunch Sunday and you dedicate whole day just to brunch. I dunno but it was disappointing since that's the one and only reason we came out on this cold wet Sunday. If you haven't had brunch in a few weeks maybe stop publicizing it in your establishment. The food we did order (even tho I wanted to leave after told no brunch but vegan hubby wanted to stay) was ok. He liked his and the fries were delicious but the vegan wings were....strange. Murray Hillbilly is the stuff of my dreams! Vegan, often gluten free, comfort food. I live very far away, so I made the trip because they sent me a free birthday dessert. So make sure you're signed up for rewards! It ended up they had sold out of dessert when I got there. So then we thought I could do a side. The mac and cheeze is not being made gluten free right now. So I asked for a half portion of the cheeze sticks. We reached a compromise there! It was very accommodating of them to have so many suggestions ready to go and to agree to my half order appetizer. They even sang happy birthday when they brought it out. I got the GF bs burger with upgraded side of fried pickles. That sauce is really something special and the Muenster cheeze sauce on the burger is AMAZING. My friend got a GF Buffalo chickun sandwich with buffalo sauce on the side and fries. I got to try a fry and their fries are SO GOOD. I'm not sure I can pass up GF fried pickles but man those fries are impressive. I accidentally ate vegan food. Oops. I came here because of an open mic listing that hasn't been relevant for ages apparently but it was too late. The bus already dropped me off. With twenty bucks left to spend I just randomly picked the Smoke House burger off the menu since everything is vegan and I was immediately confused. All the stuff is soy based which is one of the most irritating things about vegan food - it's literally bad for you, not just unhealthy. But I subbed a Beyond Burger which is made from peas I guess. It was quite tasty, as was the Cowboy sauce on top - some BBQ mayo vegan concoction that was a little gritty in texture but tasty nonetheless. Honestly though if you don't want vegan stuff in your system, the fries are normal and bomb with whatever their fake garlic butter actually is. It seems like olive oil with spices. In any case that was awesome and decadent. Just get fries in other words. Vegan food may taste ok, and yes carnivore food can be junk food too, but the less laboratory created items in my body the better. read more

My wife and I have been exercising and watching our weight/food intake lately so we decided to dip our toes into vegan food to see if there's anything we like. Well, we certainly found it. I'm a picky eater, less picky than I used to be and I'm so happy I gave this place a legitimate chance because my burger was EXCELLENT! I honestly couldn't tell the difference between my burger and a regular burger. Like, not at all. So many flavors, and even the right texture as beef with the Beyond Meat patty. My wife got the Bacun Ranch Burger and while she didn't love it as much as I did, she still ate it all. There was a smoky element in the ranch that she found unappealing, but I want to come back to try other stuff and see what they have available. The staff were super friendly. I explained that we were new to vegan food and so they helped us choose the right patty between Beyond Meat or their house made veggie patty. The place has a very lived in feel that I can see turning people off. The exposed rafters in the ceiling, the foam insulation and such isn't the best look. Also, the seating isn't very comfortable either. I would have liked more comfortable chairs. But it's a minor quibble in relation to my overall experience. I'll be back! read more

It was a huge amount on a delicious bun ( I don't usually note buns but this bun was really good), fries come with it too and they were wonderfully seasoned and all crisp! Now I could tell it was not chicken but the Buffalo sauce on it gave it nice heat; the texture was firmer then chicken. This will probably read more like a love letter than a review. Honestly, I don't consider myself an extremely religious person, but this experience was downright biblical. We walked up to the door and a cool guy with sick tattoos asked if we wanted some sexy sandwiches. Immediately a yes from me. Hub got the Chickn Bacon Ranch burger and I got the Whopper, both with the side of mac n cheese. We both agreed they were the best burgers/sandwiches we'd ever had, vegan or otherwise. Now about this mac n cheese. It takes a lot to leave me speechless. Like a lot. I took one bite and felt verbally paralyzed. The nicest human on planet earth (I think name was Jeremy?) came over and told us it was a semi-new mix/recipe and he probably said other stuff too but my brain was tweaking on cheese so I missed it all. For our long drive home we got 2 more burgers and mac n cheeses to go, 2 jugs of house made sauce, as well as most of the cookies. I'm not sorry. Now, the mac is long gone. My experience here was poor today. Service was mid but was even more so poor at the end. I order the Mac and cheese w/ bacon bits, Blueberry Danish, Lemon Pepper Wings, Fried Pickles, buffalo ranch chicken, Spicy Chickun Fry, and Fries. The blueberry danish was like a 8/10. Pretty good dough and filling. This is worth a try. The fried pickles was ok. Like a 5/10. They were pretty greasy and the centers were too soft for me. Eating them felt very heavy on the stomach. I wouldn't go for these again. The lemon pepper wings were inconsistent. Some dry and some wet like. The lemon pepper seasoning didn't even taste like lemon pepper. More like a vinegar and worchestire sauce. You could've took these home and air fried them some more IMO. Since it was a mix, some outsides were a lil crispy and others wet while the middle wasn't fully cooked either. The store brought vegan/plant based tenders are better than these. The buffalo ranch chicken and Spicy Chickun Fry sandwiches were a miss too. 1, there was just too much sauce on the sandwich. I had more sauce than the "chicken" itself. The tomatoes was almost as thick as a whole half tomatoe and they had hella pickles on the sandwiches. Oh my goodness. This just ain't it for me. The fries were almost the best thing, but still greasy as hell and hella salty too. The Mac and cheese w/bacon bits was actually burnt bits and ruined the entire Mac order. I couldn't get past the burnt grill pieces that powered over the rest of the dish. It's like eating burnt popcorn with the good popcorn. You just can't miss that distinct terrible taste. While trying to get a refund, they informed me they didn't have a refund policy. As we were discussing the issue on the phone, they blatantly just hung up with no regards to what I had to say. This place is very much so rude. All in all, I will have to have the bank dispute the entire charge now instead of the small amount I wanted a refund for in the first place since they couldn't help. They actually told me, so many people have been asking for refunds, they had to change the policy because it was costing them so much over time. Smh, not my problem as a customer. Avoid this place at all cost. I'm sure you'll find much better quality, food and service at another establishment. While I was excited to come at first it wasn't a great experience for me and I won't be returning. They might need to hire a real chef and revamp their menu for some help. They should also consider a customer engagement training or something to help with service and interactions. An interior designer would do them well too as I wasn't too fond of the caved in ceilings look. How unfortunate & distasteful. Don't know how long they've been in business, but I don't see them continuing in the future. Terrible place of business. read more
