I knew about Twisting Roots from their previous brick and mortar restaurant Cultural Kitchen near San Marco. When I saw the food truck at the Porchfest, I was excited!! I tried a shrimp and veggie taco with sweet plantains. OMG the guava sauce and the sweet plantains were so perfect. This truck serves Puerto Rican food with Southern influences. My fried shrimp were also plump and juicy in the taco. My friend loved her pork tacos and I tried one of her tostones which was also delicious! The service was friendly from the woman working the cash register to the young man serving the tacos out of the truck. They had a variety of sandwiches, tacos, sides, and even a chicken tender basket that my friend enjoyed. Her fries were seasoned really well too. 5 stars. I was able to try the vegan jackfruit for the first time since I began eating as a vegan since last I ate at this truck. The canoa with triple meat is the way to go for sure if you eat meat. The vegan canoa was great with jackfruit. For my taste I don't think it needs extra sweetness from the sauces since it is on a sweet plantain already. I would adjust the sweetness of the sauces for the vegan option. The yucca fries are the same as you get in the area. Frozen and about 6 for $4. I would like to see a signature sauce for o go with them since everyone in St A does a coconut sauce which is too sweet. I think a mayo-ketchup would be perfect. read more

My new favorite sandwich, the Drunken Bull from is the perfect combination of flavors. The slow roasted pulled beef and bourbon sauce on a soft ciabatta roll is outstanding then topped with fried onions and sweet plantains is a match made in heaven. Twisted Root really caught me off guard and in the best way. When coming to the food trucks I saw their name and figured it was going to a vegetarian or vegan food truck but boy was I wrong. They have meat and seafood!!! I ordered the Sea Biscuit which is a fried shrimp sandwich with a tasty sauce, cole slaw, and fried onions. This sandwich was amazing! One of our neighbors got the food truck to come to our neighborhood for dinner time. Food was amazing and having them in our neighborhood was such a great social experience during this covid19 time. Got to meet neighbors and enjoyed great food. Since the sandwiches were served cut in halves, my daughter and I split halves. I had the Bikini Bottom with shrimp, crawfish fried onions and special sauce served with seasoned fries and a can of soda. My daughter got the sea biscuit with shrimp and fried onions and all the fixins. Both sandwiches were amazing! And the price wasn't bad for the large sandwiches, fries and a drink. The Twisting Roots food truck was onsite at Losco Park for a Losco Blue Back 2 School Bash. My wife and I ordered and shared three entrees. Both of us can definitely eat! 1. Pollo En Fire wrap - chicken served with aioli, tomatoes, fried onions, arugula and sauce. This wrap only cost $6 and it came with homemade chips and a drink. Great deal! 2. Pichi Cerdo - sofrito roasted pork with guava glaze topped with fried onions and plantain. 3. Carne de Bourbon - slow roasted skirt steak with a habanera maple glaze topped with fried onions and plantain. The aioli, tomatoes, and arugula were perfect with the sandwiches and wrap. Such a disappointing experience. We rarely patron food trucks, but this one was at an event we were attending. We ordered the chicken taco plate, a shrimp taco plate and a side of plaintains. The worker said for $2 more we could make it 2 tacos plus a side. We agreed and paid + tip. We received 1 plate instead of 2. We let the same woman know that this was incorrect, that we ordered 2 plates. She instructed us to wait while she got the 2nd plate. 10 minutes later she called us to the window to say that she did not charge us for the 2nd plate. I assured her she did, and added all the charges for her. She then changed the price from what was listed on the menu board and said that the combo plate was $14. I pointed out to her that was not what her menu says and in fact the #14 did not even appear anywhere on the menu. Another customer behind me also told her the same. We left with our food that now only fed half our party, only to find that we had half cooked fries and undercooked plantains. The buzz at the event amongst the crowd was how deceitful these Twisted Roots staff were and everyone saying they felt cheated by them. read more

Phenomenal!!! My mom, husband, and I stopped by the marina in St. Augustine and tried this food truck. All of us got something different and more than enjoyed the rich, delicious flavors. I had the beef tacos and the sauce on the taco was so flavorful!! The fries were crispy . My husband got the Porkys Revenge and said he had never tasted that kind of flavor before. My mom got the shrimp and crawfish sandwich and kept saying how fresh it all tasted. I would suggest coming out early. We came right at the end of the night and they had run out of some ingredients. WOW! I was thinking it was going to be good but not GREAT! The lady (boss?) was welcoming and asked if I wanted to try a sample. But as I was browsing their menu the Bikini Bottom sandwich caught my eye. Shrimp and crawfish combo sounded like a win-win situation. My order came with a side of Cajun style fries and a drink. The fries were super crispy and had a flavorful spicy kick, what cajun fries should be! The sandwich surprised me, I read that it had a southwestern coleslaw as a topping but I didn't think much about it since I'm neutral when it comes to coleslaw in general. Coupled with the surprisingly crispy battered fried shrimp-crawfish it made the sandwich so good. Loved the crunchiness of the seafood with the crispiness of the slaw combined with the soft bread. Great trinity of textures and flavors on my palate. I highly recommend this food truck even if you have given them a try, I'd say try another sandwich and see what other flavors they offer ;)! read more

My friends and I ordered a wide array of lunch options today and were all BLOWN away with the freshness, taste and fullness of our various dishes. Everything was cooked to ordered and the operators couldn't have been more friendly and accommodating if they tried. They not only had a kid's menu but an entire list of vegan/vegetarian options which was appreciated and often underrated. First class and Full service should be their motto! Being a Puerto Rican, I saw the ingenious name of this food truck: Twisting Roots, Southerican Fusion. I just had to stop and give it a try. First of all, service was phenomenal.
