The Onigiri was amazing. They were huge, the size of my hand, and perfectly stuffed. I had the tempura shrimp onigiri, and boy did it pack flavor! My friend had the spicy cajiun crayfish and rated it a 10/10. As lovers of Asian cuisine this was absolutely delicious!

This is our second time trying Dorami, and it was even better than the first! The first visit, I was a little disappointed with the size and price of the Onigiri. Don't get me wrong, it was delicious, but I just wished it were bigger. Fast forward to last Thursday, and we decided to give it another shot. We were pleasantly surprised by the size of the Onigiri! This time it was huge and definitely worth the price! I tried the Beef Gyudon, and it was so flavorful. I also ordered the salmon again, and the flavor was on point as always. My husband got the Chicken Teriyaki and really enjoyed it too. The wait for our orders was a bit long, but totally worth it! I think I'll give it another month before I start stalking them again for their next location, too much carbs! LOL!

Some people chase tornados. I think those people are kinda crazy. I chase food trucks. Wait. Am I the crazy one? Let me explain. For a few months now, I've been obsessed with onigiri. What is onigiri you ask? Well, basically it's a big ball of sushi rice. Wrapped in nori (seaweed) and shaped kinda like a pyramid. Oh and usually includes some other type of filling, like salmon. Or plum. Or even spam. SPAM! I first saw onigiri on social media and thought, "I have got to try that delicious looking morsel!" The problem though, is that it is really difficult to find. Not too many sushi restaurants serve onigiri. The answer (at least in Jacksonville)? Food trucks. Including Dorami. Now, while Dormai does appear on Yelp, there isn't a lot of information about it on the web. I don't believe the owners have a website. But they do have a Facebook page. And that is where I found the truck's schedule last week. Thus, the chase. And where did we find Dorami? Actually in an apartment complex off of southside. Maybe a little weird, but hey, I needed my onigiri fix! Dorami does have several kinds of onigiri. Both meat and vegetarian options. My wife (who joined me on my chase) and I decided to sample several of them. We ordered: salmon soy furikaki, spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, soy glazed shiitake mushroom and pickled plum (ume). The woman taking the orders was very friendly, and after you order she gives you a little pager that lets you know when your order is ready. Now these onigiri were larger than others that I've tried. They do come in all sizes and sometimes the nori doesn't cover all the rice. But for these, the rice was warm and delicious and the nori, which was wrapped all around, was somewhat successful in keeping it all together. The fish we got was all cooked. I don't know if they serve any with raw fish, but just something to keep in mind. The flavor of the salmon and tuna was great. The shrimp tempura was very good as well, but I'm not sure I would order it again. The mushroom was the surprise of the bunch. It was really, really good. I personally was not a fan of the plum, but my wife really liked the odd mix of salty, sour and sweet. The onigiri did tend to unravel after taking a bite, so be prepared to get a little messy and have to use your fingers or other utensil to eat all of that onigiri goodness. Onigoodness!! Overall it was a fun experience to find the truck and I definitely recommend onigiri and the Dorami food truck to anyone who likes sushi. Oh, and next time I'm trying the fries!

The food was overall very delicious. We got the cheese puffs, the salmon onigiri, the shrimp tempura onigiri, the spicy Cajun crawfish onigiri and the mushroom onigiri as well as the Thai tea. The cheese puffs were delicious but I didn't love the sauce. The Thai tea was delicious and was perfect. The shrimp tempura was my favorite and my friends favorite was the crawfish one. They were both amazing. The salmon one was pretty good but maybe lacked just a little bit of flavor, could maybe use some salt. Unfortunately neither of use really liked the mushroom one but that's ok, it might just be not our tastes. The rice was very good and consistent throughout all of them. Overall I really liked it and love that this is one of the only places I can get onigiri in Jacksonville. We will probably be coming here again to get onigiri and Thai tea. Thank you so much.

Yes, I'm talking about eating at the food truck called On the Fly. Calling it a food truck is in this number, I'm not sure what you would call. It is fabulous. Now let's start off with the negatives, parking is not as easy as it is for most lunch places, but it's really not that bad if you know what you're doing. There are plenty of slots on the street before you get to the restaurant, and if you called ahead and are just picking up then you can park in the reserve lot, where On the Fly is located. Now these spaces are reserved for lawyers going to the courthouse, which is nearby. So you can't park there here all day, but if you're just stopping in for lunch or if you've called ahead or just picking up takeout, then you should be fine. If you're in someone's spot, the first place to look is the restaurant, so just know you may have to move fairly quickly. For me, I like to call in advance, place my order, and then Park in one of the spaces. Then I pick up my food and go and I'm only there for five minutes. Now that that's all out of the way, let's talk about some of the best food that you will have in Jaxonville. On the Fly sauce - I think this is made by a team of leprechauns they keep in the back of the food truck. Because it comes out so fresh, so delicious, and if they sold it by the gallon, I would be numero Uno in buying it. Blue chips - a great starter chips and blue cheese, perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned and delicious. Firecracker Sesame seared Tuna - another solid performer, it has some kick to it, although the tuna is always perfectly cooked. Sweet and spicy quesadilla - oh my God, this dishes as close to heaven as I think I will ever get to. The chicken is so tender and put into a tortilla with caramelized onions, banana peppers, and covered in On the Fly sauce. I don't know how but this works so well you cannot imagine. The menu has a little for everyone and like me most who were lined up struggled to choose - we decided on the drunken wings and fries with two orders of fried gyoza but honestly I was on the fence even after I placed my order thinking "did I order enough" believe me there was plenty of food for the two of us. I requested the wings extra crispy and before he made my order he pulled a wing from the fryer and gave me a peek to ensure they were crispy enough before tossing them. The fried gyoza were so delicious I probably could of eaten another order maybe I should of tried them steamed to get the total experience. I thought the prices were reasonable and the service exceptional- I definitely hope to run into these guys again during my travels...

I ended up ordering the coconut shrimp, which the person who took my order said was one of their specialties and I added on the coconut hush puppies. Given that they had a huge sign saying that their cheese balls were amazing, I grabbed an order the mozzarella ones as well. I must admit that I was a little confused as to why a seafood place was selling cheese balls...but, oh well, I love fried cheese. I was told that since I hadn't placed my order online ahead of time, as I didn't know that was an option, my order would take 52 minutes. I was given a time to return to the truck. Nearly an hour wait is a long time for truck food. I tend to think of food trucks as a great go-to for a quick meal. I mean, even an hour wait in a restaurant for food is a ridiculously long time. Nevertheless, I agreed and paid. My order was ready right on time! I was able to skip the line when I arrived back there and received their text and everything was correct when I checked the boxes before leaving. Nearly everything was also overly fried including the french fries which were dark in color, hard, and difficult to eat. The shrimp were large and nicely breaded and they had a good flavor to them. But the coconut hush puppies were burnt in places and had no appreciable seasoning or flavor aside from coconut pieces. I guess I was expecting the usual spices in a hush puppy with the addition of coconut. And the cheese "balls" were melted discs of breading around some of the cheese. They were still edible but not what was advertised. I remember trying a brie ball from Nomi's Cheese Bar at Gastrofest years ago and what I got was much more successful back then (see pic). It looks like these companies have merged or perhaps they are the same folks?!?! The issues on the night that I went may have been because of the crowd or because their oil temperature was too high. I wish I had tried something that didn't require a fryer to be able to better asses their flavors. This truck seems to have potential but I just didn't have a great experience, particularly given the relatively high costs of the food.

And thankfully neighbors are praticing social distancing. They had prepared food and placed it on a table so you could see what you were buying before ordering. I chose the fried haddock and coconut hush puppies. Both were deliscious! First, the coconut hush puppies were unlike anything I had ever tried. I love coconut, and these puppies packed a huge amount! They were big in size so I only ate one with dinner. Plus the dipping sauce was a perfect pairing with the coconut. I shared the order of four with my niece. The haddock exceeded my expectations! The piece of fish was huge so I split it into two meals. The fish was flaky and the batter was nice and thin how I like it. And packed with yummy flavor! I heated the remainder on my baking stone the next day and it was oh so good. I will most definitely try another meal when Island Girl pops up in my neighborhood again!
