The hungry owl will always be one of my favorite food trucks located here in Jax - year after year. The quality is amazing, the portions are big, the seasonings and flavor are there, and the service is always nothing but friendly. If you visit Ruby Beach downtown, you'll notice the truck to the side of the building. What's nice about the food truck being in this area is that there is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating as soon as you get your food. You don't have to take your to go box and drive home to eat it; you can enjoy right then and there at a cute lil table on their astroturf patio, the deck patio, or take it inside and enjoy. If you are new to Jax and haven't tried this food truck yet, please put it at the top of your list. We have a lot of delicious food trucks in Jax, but this one Will Be in your rotating top 3 to order from time and time again. I always get two meals out of one. The portions are huge! You get a lot of bang for your buck here. The quality and flavor is there. Since it's the month of March, women's history month; who better to highlight than a female owned, AAPI owned, local, small business right here in Jax.
I had an event to attend at Ruby Beach Brewing so I took the opportunity to try this food truck. Service was personable. Food didn't take long considering 4 people ordered right before me. I stayed nearby and could hear they were cooking everything fresh. This meal was truly a delight. I ate it faster than I'd like to admit. I got the Mooyang pork belly rice bowl. The pork was soft but also crispy on the edges. The egg was perfect. The rice was the perfect amount. You also get kimchi and a tiny lumpia. Fresh. Delicious. Will return.
Great food truck outside the Ruby Beach brewery. Three of us ordered several items from the menu, which had a lot of choices! The Thai Curry Rice Bowl with chicken - flavor of the curry was soo delicious and the chicken was crispy and overall great flavors. The rice on the other hand really threw us for a loop - it tasted somewhat like soap. We aren't sure if this is a lemongrass or something else the rice was cooked in but definitely was not good. (The dish soap taste was in several of the rice dishes we tried except for the fried rice) Spam Musibi plate - excellent aside from the above mentioned dish soap rice. The spam was cooked to perfection with a delicious glaze! Drunken Noodle - I got this mild and it still had a good spicy kick to it, great flavors and was glad I got this dish! would order again! We also had the beer fried rice and shrimp pad Thai - both of which were great and would also order again. Overall, aside from the rice issue, it was a great option!
This thai food is SO good! I visited for the first time recently while meeting a friend at Ruby Beach Brewery. It was pouring outside, so the outside area was empty. I can imagine it gets pretty busy. It took about 30 minutes for our food to be made which shows it is really made fresh to order. I tried the thai curry bowl with tofu and asked to add extra vegetables. It was $19 and came with a little veggie spring roll on top. The portion size was huge and I ate all of the curry. I will absolutely order this again. I ordered the thai chicken and rice ($16) for my boyfriend to go and the box was so heavy! It fed him multiple meals and he loved it. My friend got the loaded fries which was something I've never seen before! It had a drizzle of something like yum yum and terriyaki sauce on top. She added tofu and it was cooked perfectly. What a treat! The portion was huge and I will definitely get those to share next time. They prefer cash or venmo payment and it will be a bit cheaper than using a credit card. I can't wait to go back and try more!
We have a lot of great food trucks downtown regularly, but Hungry Owl is one of the best. (you can also catch them elsewhere around the city if you follow them on Instagram for their schedule.). My go-to is the pad ka prao gai, one of the best renditions of the dish that I've had - huge portion of ground chicken and chiles over rice, with a fried egg and an egg roll to boot. The khao soi is also excellent, though not the easiest to eat in your work clothes. The kaomangai fried chicken is the dish that most people come for - it's good, but it's not my favorite on the menu. The service can be on the slow during high volume times, but it's worth the wait.
Hungry Owl is one of my favorite places to have Thai food and IMO has the BEST drunken noodles in the city! Even as someone who's sensitive to spice, I recommend getting the drunken noodles with at least mild spice because the one time I got it with none, it also lacked some flavor. I don't get it as often but their signature Kao Man Gai is also great. The truck's "home" is at Ruby Beach brewing downtown which is a really nice atmosphere to have your delicious Thai food with a cold beer :)
The food here is delicious!! I ordered the pork lumpia and was sooo happy with how they tasted. I wanted to get another order of them, but decided to get a meal instead, so I went with the Pad Ka Proa (Spicy Basil). When they tell you the Pad Ka Proa is spicy, they aren't lying. I can handle my spice but this one was a tough one. Still delicious though! Highly recommend.
FLA-VOR-FUL!!! I really love this food truck. Thus far...ALL of the main entrees and Special of the Day that I've tried on their menu have been all home runs. And speaking of 'home'...that's the hard part....driving home and trying not to pass out from the smell and aroma of the deliciousnessnessness inside the car. The struggle is real. And once you get home, warn everyone around you that you're about to eat and for them not to bother or talk to you. Feast on!!!! I'm definitely a Hungry Owl food groupie.
If there's a single dish that describes me as a person, it's spam musabi. Like me, it's a little salty and an acquired taste, but worth the effort of getting to know. This spam musabi plate from the @thehungryowljax food truck is a good one. It's grilled spam with a teriyaki glaze, seasoned white rice, a fried egg, and an egg roll. My kind of comfort food.
The Hungry Owl came to our neighborhood and thank goodness they did be cause no one was in the mood to cook! I reviewed the menu and pictures several times (as a true Yelper does) and finally decided to order the Pad Ka Prad Gai aka Thai Spicy Basil Chicken. First let me say WOW the flavor is fantastic but I also need to warn spicy is in the name of the dish for a clear reason! After ordering it didn't take but maybe 10 minutes for our food to be ready. Even in a take out box they still did a great job of plating the food so it had a nice presentation. I ate every single bite and licked my lips after! I cannot wait for The Hungry Owl to be back to my neighborhood so I can order more and more!!!
I have been wanting to try this food truck for years! I stalk them on Instagram hoping I'll be in the same area and the stars aligned last night! I ordered the Kao Soi with double fried chicken, it was so good! Curry based with egg noodles, veggies and chicken. The lumpia was great. Service was quick and polite. I'll definitely be trying other dishes from them! The hype was real and I'm so glad I finally got to try them!
Food was great, tasted great too, only downside is the portion size they gave was like a kids meal
I ordered the Kaomangai from here! It was a much anticipated visit for me and I left extremely satisfied!! This is a delicious Thai chicken and rice dish with double fried chicken over ginger garlic jasmine rice, topped with a fried egg and lumpia, and served with a side of soy miring and sweet chili sauce. This Thai street food truck offers a variety of delicious main courses and I can't wait to try every single one of them!!

The Hungry Owl has got to be my favorite food truck. It is more than a food truck experience. It's cooked to order so be prepared for a wait that is well worth it! I got the Mooyang Pork Belly Bowl, and I was in heaven. Savory and flavorful, it was topped with an egg and kimchi. I thought I'd devour the whole thing but the portions were hearty and I thankfully had leftovers for later- which I enjoyed thoroughly! I'm happy to learn they are often parked at Ruby Beach Brewery so I can seek them out when I'm crazy Thai AND grab a beer. read more
The chicken was so tender and flavorful. The rice was fluffy and perfect with the chicken. Only two thoughts - it's difficult to cut the chicken in boxes so it would be nice if it were cut up into smaller more manageable pieces. I'd also love more green onions in the rice. We added spicy sauce to ours and it was delicious! read more

I have eaten at the Hungry Owl twice. The first time was last year while hanging at Ruby Beach. Most recently, the food truck was at my churches Easter event. My first meal was mooyang pork belly. Last week, I tried the thai curry rice bowl with grilled chicken. Both meals were delicious! And I appreciate the large portions. I get two meals out of one. The service was friendly and the staff were helpful in answering my questions. If you are looking for great Thai food, look no further than the Hungry Owl. read more

5 Stars - They do Thai Street food very very well. I have fond memories of eating delicious homemade lumpia from my college years when I spent a summer living near a Filipino family that fed me lumpia and other delicious food all of the time. I have been yearning for that taste ever since and have not found it. I was starting to wonder if it was just a figment of my imagination. Even though they are categorized as a Thai Street Food Truck, visiting the Hungry Owl food truck took me right back to those fond memories of my past and helped me realize it wasn't. I had the Lumpia and Fried Chicken Koagmangi. This food is legit, I mean sooooooooo good. The lumpia is the best I've had in YEARS! I have never had Koagmangi before so I was not sure what to expect but fried chicken served over rice was delicious. The Koagmangi was served with white rice and fried dumplings. It was a filling and satisfying meal. Too bad I was just visiting Jacksonville because this food is hella good. I would definitely be a regular to this food truck without a doubt. read more

It's a fabulous food truck with delicious meals that are worth the wait. My friend and I drove across town to baymeadows one evening to order food from The Hungry Owl. There was quite a line and a 30 minute wait after each order but that did not deter us. I ordered the Thai Chicken and rice, pot stickers and tried their charity inspired donuts. All were delicious and worth the price. The service is friendly, the food is a little greasy (in a good way), the smells intoxicating, and the prices are o.k. * I learned the hard way though.... this food is extremely delicious when you eat it right away. Due to the grease and textures; the food does not hold up well to being cold or reheated the next day. read more

Oh man that lumpia is killer! I could live off those and be one happy camper. It was just perfect timing that we stubbled upon the Hungry Owl truck this week. I have been following the truck for awhile but hadn't had the chance to try. So it was meant to be so what I just finished dinner there is always more room lol. So I went with the musubi platter since it something I dont find very often. The musubi was well seasoned and tender. The fried eggs was some flavorful and the rice and pancit was a great combo. Next time I for sure try their housemade hot sauce to kick it up a notch because this definitely will not be my last visit. read more

This is honestly my favorite food truck in Jax! The Hungry Owl makes the best Thai food! I got a chance to try their limited time weekend special, "Crying Tiger" If you don't like heat, this isn't for you. But for all my spicy lovers, get it! The steak was cooked perfectly and the sauce was sweet, spicy, and tangy. It came with a side of rice as well. This is perfect for two or enjoy by yourself. Go check them out ASAP! read more
We didn't really have plans for dinner so we went to check out what food trucks were in the neighborhood and lucky for us The Hungry Owl was there and we had been wanting to try them. After looking over the menu I ordered Kao Soi which is Thai Egg Noodles with Curry Broth and for my protein I went with Beef. I doesn't sound much better then that. Ashley ordered the Pad Ka Prao Gai which is Thai Spicy Basil Chicken. We also had to get and order of the Pork Lumpia. Our good was ready in about 10 minutes. Once home we got into it. My Kao Soi looked amazing and once I added the Curry Broth it was even better. The Beef in the Kao Soi was so flavorful and tender. The curry was also rich and really pulled together the whole dish. I think this might have been one of the best dishes I have had from a food truck. I also got to Try Ashley Pad Ka Prao Gai which was also very good. It was a little too spicy for her but for me it was perfect. To end the Pork Lumpia was also the best I have ever had. Can't say more good things about the Hungry Owl and will make sure to keep and eye out when I am out and about and maybe if I'm lucky they will be back in my neighborhood again soon. read more
My first time trying this food truck and wow am I amazed! I enjoyed every bite of pancit, lumpia, steak and chicken. I was super impressed by the owner; she was so kindhearted and shared a love for cooking. I will definitely be purchasing another meal in the near future ALSO the Matcha-Misu was soooo good! We finally found decent Thai here in Jax, and it's a food truck! We literally have tried every Thai spot and this ones the best! It's sometimes hard to have to drive to where the food truck is parked for the evening, but worth the hunt and drive! It's also definitely got it's own flair to Thai Cuisine and it comes boxed up in a modern way with an egg roll includes!I'm a big boy so we order multiple things to make sure we get full! read more

One of my favorite food trucks and you really can't go wrong!! The chicken satay, the fried chicken, the garlic rice, pancit, lumpia, chicken egg roll, samosa, pot stickers. Hot damn. Everything is amazing. If she's in your neighborhood, do all that you can to get an awesome delicious fair priced lunch or dinner from hungry owl!!! You won't be disappointed!! read more

I've been following The Hungry Owl on Instagram and admiring their food from afar for a good while now. I like to invite a friend with me to grab some food when trying something new out so they can get a taste of the goods too. I grabbed the Kaomongai fried and grilled platter and it was gooood! I wanted to try the original poached Kaomongai but that will just have to wait for another visit. You really can't go wrong with chicken and rice so give them a try! read more
