My sister told me this location was better than the Brownsville location so I was excited to chow down on some delicious favorites before heading back! We called in our order at 6:37 and were headed that direction when they said it would be ready in 13 minutes. I thought that was an ambitious ETA considering we had ordered spinach dip, key west chicken and shrimp, chicken tenders and two sirloins PLUS sides. We arrived and sat in the parking lot for roughly...30 minutes... 7:10 rolls around and it's ready to take home. My chicken and shrimp was delicious, a little cold but nonetheless good. My wife and I don't normally eat at chain restaurants but we hadn't tried a Cheddar's and decided to eat lunch at this new one on Expressway 83. We were seated promptly in spite of the lunch rush and perused the menu. Since we are both trying to lose some weight, we were pleased to find a lite menu selection which included calories. She ordered the salmon and brocolli and I ordered the Baja chicken with rice and black beans, both of which were under 500 calories. Both dishes were very tasty and we were stuffed when we finished. The server had asked us if this was our first time there and we replied that it was. About halfway through the meal the manager came to our table and asked us if everything was good. Having previously eaten at Cheddar's at other locations, I never expected to receive what I received yesterday at the new Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen in Harlingen, TX. I visited this new location with my wife and mother in law on Sunday afternoon (4/8/18). Their plates were properly proportioned and they had zero complaints about their food quantity or quality. The issue was with my plate, a New Orleans Pasta, traditionally this plate combines a Cajun staple of Chicken, Sausage, Shrimp and penne pasta in a Cajun inspired sauces and spices. While my plate was well served with hefty serving of Pasta, Sausage and Shrimp, it was missing the Chicken all together. After a few bites, I moved the Pasta and other ingredients around to ensure that I was not just having issues with my eyes and did not find 1 piece of Chicken within the plate, I flagged down my server and confirmed with her that the plate was supposed to contain Chicken. For some odd reason, she did not seem very surprised when I asked her to please bring me a member of Management. I continued to slowly eat my meal until some 8 - 9 minutes later a female dressed in Kitchen styled apparel came to my table and asked what was the problem? I told her that my plate was supposed to contain Chicken, but there was none. She looked at me incredulously and asked me if I was sure, my Wife turned to look at her and she immediately realized that she was not going win any argument with my wife, so she said, she would bring me serving of protein (which I believed to be a piece of chicken). Initially I waited about 4 or 5 minutes for my plate of "protein" and then my hunger won out and I continued to eat my Chicken less New Orleans Pasta. All 3 of finished our plates and the plate of protein never arrived, I called my server over for my tab and she asked if everything had been good, I jokingly told her that the kitchen staff was out back chasing my chicken. When my server returned with my tab, she was accompanied by the same older lady that apologized for not bringing out the Chicken, so she made me a brand new plate of New Orleans Pasta. Being that I had already eaten, I asked for a "to go" box and I brought the plate home with me. Well guess what? I just took it out off the Fridge and warmed it up for a Late Lunch and lo and behold...NO CHICKEN again! While I understand a mistake can happen in a fast paced kitchen environment, the lack of professionalism my Kitchen Managers to ensure all plates are complete and served properly is inexcusable, compounded by the failure to live up to a verbal promise to make it right on the spot, and last but not least providing me with another serving of New Orleans Pasta with NO CHICKEN is flat out ridiculous. I don't want to hold this against the entire chain, but some serious re-training of the Harlingen Kitchen staff is recommended as is personal apology by a member of Management. read more

We usually go to the one in mcallen but we were in Harlingen so we stopped by the one in Harlingen. I was somewhat disappointed in the service from the get go. We ordered our drinks and they took a looong time and when we got them my glass was not full and I had very little ice. We then preceded to order and the order took a loooonnnnggg time to get to us as well. When we got the order I did not get my sides ughh. Didn't enjoy my experience. I have been driving all the way from weslaco to this location, while on the way I was on the phone trying to place to place a to go order But was placed on hold, when someone finally answered and asked how they could assist, I asked if I could place an order; only to be told to "hold on", and they put me on hold again. When I finally got here the place was not even busy and I was actually able to be seated. Now I am currently waiting on my food, to go, when it could've been ready as soon as I got here. My family and I have been going to cheddars for a long time now. Unfortunately we were greatly disappointed last night. My wife and I decided to share a maple bacon sandwich. We cut it in half each took a bite and tasted how rubbery the chicken was, we decided to finish our cheese fries and other sides. We weren't there very long but our waitress brought out ticket and that's when we let her know we didn't eat it and that if our ticket could be fixed. She took our plates and a little while later than manager met us at our table and asked what she could do and I let her know that we didn't even eat our sandwich and that we were unsatisfied. She tried to offer another plate and we kindly declined since we were starting to realize our son was sleepy and ready to home to sleep. When I received my "new" ticket I was still charged for the sandwich and did not receive a remake on my order. I have never been to a Cheddar's restaurant before. I received a few free gift cards to attend their grand opening, but couldn't make it, so I decided to go a few weeks later with a friend and our daughters. Walking into the restaurant, my first impression was that it was very clean, updated and had a really great family-friendly, lodge-style feel. Upscale, but not pretentious at all. It felt like the type of place you would visit on a weekend getaway at the lake. There were lots of people with little kids and even infants there. It's pretty loud, so you don't have to feel like you're a disruption if you plan to bring young kids. The servers and staff were super helpful and professional. When we walked in, my daughter was carsick and they even offered her a complimentary soft drink to settle her stomach. I ordered the steak and ribs combo platter and it was perfectly cooked and delicious. One of the guests at our table wanted to order the spasagna, but sadly, they were sold out. That was a bit of a disappointment. Overall the food and cocktails were very good. Everything was perfectly cooked, the place was clean and comfortable, and the staff was so, so nice. My only criticism (if you can call it that) is that I wish the food was more unique. It would have been nice to try the spasagna or another dish that was a bit more unique to Cheddar's. I think I'll definitely go back again and try a few more items to see what else they offer...and I'll absolutely be getting the steak and ribs again too! read more

A group of friend's and I went to go eat there Friday night to celebrate a friends B-day and we told our waiter that we were waiting for three of our friends to get there. Well he kept going like every second and asking if we were ready to order. (felt rushed) Then finally we were ready and we ordered mix drinks and our food. He finally came with our mix drinks Glasses were HOT melted our drinks fast, did not enjoyed that. Then he drops a tequila shot on my friend and all he said sorry, left the mess on the floor didn't bother cleaning it. Didn't even ask if my friend if she was okay or how wet she got. We wanted more mixed drinks but decided not to get more due to glasses being hot. We asked for cold drinks (cokes, tea) well brought them out and never came back to ask for refills until we got his attention. Worst waiter we got that night. Oh then when he was taking our money he has the nerve to tell us he had only gotten $20.00 of tip all night. Well I wonder why, but we didn't need to know that.
