We stopped in for dinner around 8 PM and had a short 10-minute wait. Our waitress was friendly and made us feel welcome right away. We really enjoyed the complimentary buttered croissants--warm, soft, and full of flavor. For our meals, we ordered the chicken fried chicken and the meatloaf. Both dishes came out quickly and were hot and delicious. We finished off with a slice of carrot cake for dessert, and it did not disappoint--moist, flavorful. We ordered a take out family pack today Saturday 03/28/26 4 pm. The meal was not appealing at all, the chicken tenders were over breaded ( which I have a vide) and most were tuff, the baked potatoes were hard they seemed to be day old, the green beans were very sweet. I did speak to a manager which offered to give me another meal, which I declined, it didn't sound appealing any longer. We had never experienced this before at this location. My card was left behind and I had to go by and pick it up and the manager came out and did not even apologies for the inconvenience. read more

Server was prompt at taking orders for drinks and appetizers. When asking suggestions, since this was our first visit to Cheddars our server "Greg" was great at suggesting dishes. The atmosphere of the place was pleasant with music playing at a good volume. Sports channel on the television but had closed caption on so wasn't conflicting with the music. The food was served hot and generous portions were served. Even with a group of 50 plus women in the other part of the restaurant service was prompt and server was attentive, can understand why the parking is always busy there. Service is mediocre at best have been ignored between food service and needing a condiment 15, they don't check on patrons table status. Ambiance too loud. Management has changed and losing customers. Some walk out the door while waiting. Hope they tighten up their training. The service at Cheddar's in Harlingen is still lacking. Management needs to train host/hostess and staff. Lunched there today and hostess served up attitude when we requested to sit in bar area & picked an alternate table than the one she wanted to seat us in. Management needs to have staff arrive at least 30 minutes before opening and finalize and be ready to work, instead of socializing with one another and neglecting their duties as soon as they clock in. read more

Reasonable prices. Lots of variety in their menu from burgers, chicken pot pie, salads and desert. Always ask the hostess for a good waiter. We had a bad experience waiting around for our waiter to bring our food and drinks 45 minutes after we ordered. My three favorite plates are the pecan chicken salad, honey mustard chicken, and lemon pepper chicken. Don't forget to order some hot out of the oven croissants. On occasion I've had the pain killer, it is an excellent pineapple drink on the rocks with a rim of coconut. And can't go wrong with a classic Texas Margarita on the rocks for an extra kick. read more

It was all about unprofessional approach of service people and on the top of it ... Wrong unprofessional approach of Management. I did order Vegetables plate which includes house salad or potato soup and 4 chooses of other vegetables. So my order was...: 4 different vegetables of my choice and house salad with extra beer butter shrimp - order from appetizers menu as a topping on house salad. I explained myself clearly to bring all that together as my meal. When food arrived to our table I got just steamed vegetables and I didn't ask where is house salad with shrimp. I have been told they will check on that. So a little later when I already was half done with whatever vegetables I did have on my plate house salad arrived but still NO !!!!! Shrimp!!! I asked what is that???? Answer was: we still working on your shrimp?!?!? Finally shrimp got served but..... guess what??? It was a full appetizer (6 beer butter shrimp) !!! It was only 4???? I got our service waitress and asked what is that??? She said that they just added a topping of 4 shrimp on that house salad.!!! I said.... : "I ordered full appetizer (6) on the top of salad and I was clean ". I wasn't happy and at snd I already lost my appetite that evening. I requested manager. She came to our table and when I asked what happened to my order??? It was very simple what I ordered. How they messed it up so badly. ?!! So, manager answer shocked me!!! This is what she said exactly: " I assumed that it is OK to add only those 4 shrimps on the top of salad because a full an appetizer order of these shrimp (6) costs like $10 so She "ASSUMED"!!!! to do what she did , besides that shrimps didn't not arrive at same time!!! I can't believe how people from that restaurant can just assume!!!! ??? What do I Want and decide about my order without even asking ??? Horrible and totally wrong manager decision!!!! read more

Server was very pleasant and helpful. Did find a long black hair in the chicken fingers, that was disappointing, the server did her best to make up for it. The dis was replacing the chicken, no reduction in charges. The breading on the shrimp was soggy. The server did her minimum amount of checking on us. Soo I was disappointed in my visit. After a long day of travel, I wanted a place that would fill me all the way up! Cheddar's was recommended to me so I decided to go. Cheddar's was clean, inviting, and large. When I walked in, i was greeted and sat immediately. Our waiter came and let us know that we had a waitress in training. They both took such great care of us and made our experience one to remember. I got the steak and shrimp with mashed potatoes and broccoli. It was absolutely delicious. The shrimp comes with a special sauce. I don't remember what it was called, but I know it was good. I like to be able to put the amount of sauce I want on food, so I requested it on the side. This will not be my last time visiting Cheddar's!! read more

Service was really slow. Waited about 30min to be seated & then another 30min till our server came by to take our drink order, but we basically used the time to choose what we wanted to eat too. This location seems roomier and more pleasant than the fuster cluck that is the Brownsville location. The menu has quite a variety of different things including chicken, fish, steaks, burgers, pasta, salads and (my favorite) chicken pot pie. Everything I've tried has been fresh, hot and flavorful. Some of the standouts for me are their super fresh salads, flaky croissants, tasty sides (love that broccoli casserole), and their variety of drinks. Prices are reasonable. read more

Came for an early lunch arrived at 11:30 got seated until 11:50 there was a lot of people once we got seated and orders placed the food took a while to get to us. Overall good lunch if you have been to a cheddars before it's the same just different location. The reason I did not give this a 5- star rating is because the sitting is to cramped. We were a party of 5 and our table was really small and cramped. Ordered water and it was tap water informed the servers and the server semi nodded in agreement. ( not sure if it was because the water is in fact tap water or just to agree with me) Would I come back: yes BUT not during lunch hour. Had to rush to eat. We went during the weekday, it wasn't packed at all. Servers and staff were ready to assist you. It was clean, and it wasn't busy or loud. the waiter was quick to get our drinks and appetizers. We eat in their dining room at the Harlingen location occasionally but more often get take-out. Restaurants in general are noisy and make it difficult for me to hear my companions, but the staff at Cheddars always makes sure to seat us at the least noisy table or booth. The food is always good, and the portions are plenty for anybody. The staff members have always been friendly (which is remarkable considering everybody has a bad day from time to time). This location is the newest one in the valley and it sure didn't disappoint on my first visit. My expectations were not very high since I know Harlingen tends to struggle with new business and for some reason I was expecting not a very great service and experience. I'm happy to say my experience was one of the best I have ever had at one of the franchise restaurants. The waiter went above and beyond to make sure we were happy and we were receiving excellent customer service. I can only say the management is doing a great job of keeping employee motivated by making them compete to get the most surveys from customers. Not just not ok, Trash. Let's review all the issues with my experiences. 1. Not attended or taking forever to get a waiter 2. Bad waiter service 3. Dry sad onion ring platter, watered down drinks, and smelly food. The oil used to fry everything smells of old. The atmosphere of this restaurant was just rude buy something and get out kind of atmosphere. The onion smelled so horrible and were not only a disrespect to onion rings everywhere but a perpetual reminder of bad chain restaurant mediocrity. I've had two meals here a chicken fried chicken and a hamburger. Now I love the hamburger ... from a decent location.... the bacon is usually thick salty and good and the toppings are phenomenal. Even with a busted arm our server was still very attentive. Just goes to show that people do take pride in what they do. Everything was perfect for us. The food, and the atmosphere. Many open tables in sight and parking lot had lots of parking so not too busy. After our wait we started out the door when the hostess appeared and still didn't attempt to acknowledge us. This review is somewhat dated, however it just occurred to me that I owed the community a heads-up about this location. Go to Brownsville or Mission locations instead. This Cheddar's opened several months ago and was not ready. The food was sub-par and delivered other-than-ordered. Had to talk to the manager and the whole bit. Manager herself at the time was like, "in no mood" to do her job. Left feeling that the Cheddar's brand had been seriously tarnished as have been going for years with nary an incident. Seems like just when you think a restaurant chain works out the formula for success, they hire inept people to screw it all up.. I write this off mainly to their rush to open the new location and their failure to hire/train staff specifically in the area of customer service, quality control, management and execution of their menu. read more

The baked sweet potato was warm but had way too much cinnamon on it. Mac n cheese was like glue and lukewarm, and broccoli rice casserole was just broccoli and cheese, maybe 2 grains of rice.
