Honestly, this place is a dive. The service is mediocre. The men's bathroom wall is growing hair from what used to be some sort of wood paneling. MY CHICKEN FRIED STEAK WAS DAMN GOOD!!! Was there yesterday at about 6. We ordered at bar and asked for a glass of ice for one of the drinks. He said of course and he didn't come back for 20 minutes to charge us and no ice. He was super friendly to the other people at the bar and one his phone. The woman working, waitress, did 2 shots in the 20 minutes we were there. Went there w a group a few months ago and we assumed it was her birthday that time bc she was doing shots then too. Great place with lots of regulars. They are open on Sunday. Fresh grilled gulf shrimp and fantastic craft beer on tap. Here at classics they have the best burgers in town their burgers are bigger then my whole hand so ya it was and is the best burger.

This was my first visit to Classic's. Nice clean Bar, rest rooms could use attention/remodeling. Very well staffed. I sat at the bar and ordered some comfort food. Wings, Cheeseburger and Beer. Very nice selection of Drafts and bottles. The bar has a sports bar atmosphere without being over the top, comfortable. My order came out and simply, wow. Hot, well done wings, very tasty and my burger and onion rings, GREAT!! The onion rings were huge. Overall a nice place with friendly people and they do have outside seating as well. We stopped by for lunch. The staff was goofing around at the far end of the room. Instead of coming over to greet us, one of them hollered something at us. Since we couldn't understand what she said (twice), we walked over to her. She mumbled "Sit anywhere" in an almost unintelligible voice. She sounded intoxicated. So we sat down. Then the woman who hollered at us told another worker to go do something. He just looked at her, dumbfounded. We waited a few minutes and realized our discomfort was rising based on the unprofessional manner the front of the house was being run, so we left. Absolutely delicious burgers. They are huge and really taste homemade. The fried fish needs some work...the batter was not as crispy as I would have liked, and was a little too light and soggy. The same went for the fried okra. Everything else was nice. The atmosphere was cool and comfortable, the style/decor was awesome (Beatles, Elvis, Johnny Cash), and there's a jukebox where you can play almost anything you want. The one problem I had (and it was a big turn off for me) was that my glass was dirty. There was some sort of residue encrusted at the bottom. It looked like the glass was old, but I didn't care. If it looks like that it should be cleaned or thrown away. I stuck to ordering a mixed drink just to stay away from their regular drink glasses. At any rate, I'll definitely be going back. Extremely Disappointed with this place. Heard about it from a friend that lives in Harlingen. Took over 1hr to get our food, something was going on with cook in the back. Our waiter looked like he was on his first day but still treated us good. The food was OK, but NOT GREAT as some reviews point out. Wife got "chicken fried chicken sandwich " and was more like a tender strip with overload of batter. My kids did not get to eat since we ordered the the fish and tender basket for them and after 1 hr of waiting for food we decided to pay our bill and walk out. read more

What an amazing hidden gem, first off the food is absolutely out of this world, great bartenders with actual conversation skills. Comfortable atmosphere, Friday and Saturday nights are crazy and controlled, some good bands and good people there. I was excited to try this place after seeing some pretty awesome photos of their chicken fried steak - my favorite dish. I got the CFS and was impressed at the size of it. This came with two sides and they even let us try another small appetizer for free. The service is great and I was also happy with their draft beer selection. The place is pretty low key and low-lit, setting an ambient atmosphere accompanied by an acoustic artist. I noticed an outdoor area as well but with the RGV humidity I won't be going out there until the one week of cold weather we get a year. Anywho, while the actual steak and gravy tasted great, I was not sold on the batter. Simply put, this steak comes with a ton of batter. This is to the point where my plate was covered in batter, and that was only for half of the steak. I took the other half home and will post a side-profile picture so you can see for yourself if you'd like a CFS that is overwhelmingly battered. It does make for a nice presentation, but this disappointed me. Regardless, I will be returning here to try their other dishes and will adjust my rating accordingly. They get four stars for service, craft/draft beer selection, and good food overall (be wary of the CFS). As for appetizers, their onion rings are solid. The service was great and I enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. They also have a bar menu that is available after 10pm and until 2am, which will be convenient on the days where I want a late night snack. read more

Well maybe it's was an off day. But not impressed by the Chicken fried steak. I ordered the regular wife had the smaller senior order. Mine was huge, but would prefer quality over quantity. Both steaks over cooked. Lot's of crust on mine over a thin piece of meat. Gravy ok. The golden puffs where undercooked the inside doughy. Salad was good fresh good dressing. Nice atmosphere close to home. I will probably try again. But will not get chicken fried steak. Give the sandwiches a try. read more

Came in on a Sunday and it was pretty empty. Food was really hot and fried pickles were awesome. Only complaint was the chicken fried steak and steak fingers were a bit over battered, but still tasty. Burgers looked amazing, and I'll be sure to get one next time. The food is very good but the drinks could be better. If you're a beer drinker, this place is for you because of their wide range of beer selection. We wanted to bring my brother in law who was visiting to try the delicious food but they aren't currently accepting out of state drivers license so they are losing business with this decision. Have smart bartenders and servers that know how to check IDs and it's simple (i did it for 5 years and never got in trouble with the state alcohol board). This place has the BEST fried clams I've EVER had. The waitress understood when I asked if they were the small ones or the big (i.e, rubbery ones) and she assured me they were the little ones (and they were.) Their draft beer selection is great....none of the "same old, same old" you see everywhere. But, damn, they need a better sign!!! read more

ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL!!! Harlingen seriously needed a place to get a good burger and this is the place. Everything on the menu is excellent. The menu isn't extensive but it is definitely adequate. Everything is made fresh including the mashed potatoes which are real, not instant! The service is top shelf as well. Everyone who works here is super friendly and good at their jobs. The atmosphere is nice, the fact it's a bar is just a bonus. I hope it gets busier, we need this place to stay in business. I went on 3/14 and I have to say it was the worst service i have ever had. The hostess/waitress was rude and needed retraining, I usually tip 20 - 30 bucks when I go out and I tipped her 6 bucks to leave me alone. I will tell all my friends and co-workers not to waist their time here. Over priced and bad service and all the tables are sticky. The rest room feels like if you are in a cheap boat. Avoid if you plan on drinking and eating, it's too much for the waitstaff to comprehend. I wouldn't recommend this place, I had awful service and wasn't sure as to who was my server for the night. I sat at a table after ordering a drink from the bar since I intended to have a meal at a table since there was no place at the bar to sit. When I finally got the attention from a waitress to get my food order she then told me why she didn't come to my table. She thought I was just going to have drinks and wanted to know how I was going to transfer the ticket. I'm not sure why I had to communicate how I wanted my tab delegated if I wanted to sit at the table and eat a meal. The options were to transfer the ticket to the waitress or keep it at the bar (which I was ok with). I chose to keep it at the bar which meant the bartender had to be my server which made him angry?
