Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen is one of my girlfriend and I's go to date night restaurants! It is actually the restaurant I took her to, the night I asked her to be my girlfriend! It does get pretty busy and the only down side is that they do not take reservations (as we live on the other side of town and never know how busy it will be) but other than that we have no complaints! When it comes to appetizers, our favorite is the queso! It is delicious! For our entrees, I always get the chicken strips because they are the best chicken strips you can get! My girlfriend also gets the chicken strips or the chicken fried chicken! As a dessert, our go to is the giant cookie! It comes with a warm baked and it's topped with ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate syrup, and nuts! Took my three kids out for a Sunday lunch and my eldest drove us to eat at Halo Halo but came to find out that they are closed on Sundays and they open only three days a week. Next drove to Aloha Hawaiian Bar B Q and came to find out that they went out of business. Yelp didn't help in that regard. Got there early before the lunch rush. Friendly hostess, prompt service. The place is new so it was still clean and attractive. The cheese curds were yummy as was the chicken wrap. Hubby loved the pot pie. Croissants were tasty and a different bread option. Buttermilk biscuits are still my favorite though. I have to say that the coleslaw was EXCELLENT! Next visit I am getting double slaw. It was really getting crowded as we were leaving. That is always a good sign. Had no idea they had been open for three weeks or I would have tried them sooner. I placed an order for takeout. I ordered Country Fried Chicken with white gravy. I got Country Fried Steak with brown gravy. I don't know who the cook was , but I think she or he should know the difference between chicken and beef. I also ordered meat loaf. I really don't know what that was, but it wasn't Meatloaf. Upon arriving we were warmly greeted by the personnel at the host stand. They also thanked us for coming when we left. Our server, Brianna M., was EXCELLENT! Very friendly, professional, polite, knowledgeable, and efficient. First we received some yummy warm glazed croissants. I very much enjoyed my chicken pot pie. It was large and served piping hot. My wife and I shared my side salad. It was filled with tomatoes, shredded carrots, cheese, etc. shelved nice and cold. It was enough for two. My wife tried the Monte Christo. She loved it. The side she selected was kernel corn. Very crunchy as she likes it. I initially fell in love with this restaurant but unfortunately the honeymoon always ends. I went here today with my family and had a disappointing lunch. We started off with drinks and an appetizer but shortly afterwards, 5 mins., our entrees showed up. The server said that the only option was the entrees drying up in the kitchen. The entrees were added to our table, which had no room available so at least one of the meals was set up as carry out. After finally finishing up most of the appetizers we took the remaining meals and packed them up. The manager didn't even come out to address the issue. I had to request her presence. After a few words the standard response of material compensation was offered. I refused and told her my weekly visits will turn into never again. Post Covid my wife and I have been trying to eat less drive thru and more curb side when possible. Although Cheddars is not immediately local, we chose to dine out any ways. Food was ready quickly, service was friendly and accurate. The steak was cook accordingly, sides were served as requested and everything was packaged properly. The sitting arrangement was not satisfactory. We were celebrating our brothers we ended up having to sit separately because the table where we were seated was definitely not for nine. Two chairs were at one end of the table how were they expecting for us to eat and enjoy the meal when it was to crowded at that end. The food has been great every single time. The staff is always super nice and attentive, including the manager. I've been here at least 20 times and never had a bad experience. I'm being pretty generous with this rating considering it took over 45 minutes to get our food. Only reason why I'm giving it 3 stars is because I'll probably be back just because the prices are reasonable and the portion sizes are generous. This place is always packed! Always and it always takes forever to get seated especially during prime hours Friday-Sunday in the evenings. Today it took about 20 minutes to be seated. Service is usually iffy and depends if you get lucky or not. Unfortunately, on this particular day we were not. When our food finally came out it tasted average and nothing special. At least, my family is good at making conversation and made light of the situation but Cheddars really needs to step it up in the delivery of the food and service. I have been to several cheddar locations all over the U.S and haven't been disappointed. They are normally fast and the food is delicious. This location, the first time I visited had a good amount of customers, but we only waited about 2 minutes and they seated us. The second go round it was PACKED!! Luckily we were already exhausted so we went over to the bar and as we are coming in to order our meals to go a older couple was leaving so we swapped seats!! Perfect timing saved us because the bar was even packed as well. There were two bartenders and the lady was the one that helped us out. She took our to go order and then I told her I wanted a drink. Asked for ID and then proceeded to make my drink! I choose the pineapple pina colada and it was delicious!! I sat there slurping away as we wanted for our food. FYI it is the bar so it's pretty loud so if you want to hold a conversation you are either yelling or you have your face really close to the person you are talking to. The first time I ordered the redfish meal with a side of broccoli and cheese casserole and Mac and cheese. The second go round I ordered the BBQ quarter leg meal, with the same sides! I don't even remember when the last time I went to Cheddar's was! I honestly want to say since high school and that was 20 years ago! Lol. There was a bit of a wait but it was well worth it. Me, my mom, son and other family members took my grandmother to celebrate her 85th birthday! It was a special occasion for us. The waitress (forgive me, I didn't get her name) was very good. She was kind and attentive. The manager even made her rounds! She was kind and friendly. She asked us how everything was and it was all great! The food was very tasty and plentiful. I had a 6 oz steak with grilled shrimp. Corn and French fries were my sides. The shrimp came with a bed of rice. There was onions on top of the steak and rice but no biggie! They gave the food more flavor and I just put them aside. They brought us some croissants before the meal. They were warm, flaky and fantastic! They tasted fresh and just out of the oven. Absolutely heavenly! I had a taste of my grandma's chicken pot pie and son's chicken tenders. Both were also great tasting and fresh. The chicken tenders were HUGE! I also had a margarita mixed with strawberry. It was very much on the strong side so I shared it with my mom, aunt and friend. I'd probably be under the table if I drank two of those by myself! :) The quantity was great for $4.99. My grandma gave me her garden salad and even that was good! The food here never disappoints nor does the service, on point! We started with the chips and queso, "would you like to add ground beef to your queso for free?" YES! When the app arrived it also came with salsa which was so delicious I shamelessly practically drank it. The buttered croissants will turn a well mannered lady into a ravenous greedy beast, so I've heard. The grilled chicken salad is beyond average, the chicken is tender and juicy. This place was a crowd pleaser!! Came here with my husband and daughter's and everyone left full and happy. Husband and I typically order 2 entrees which we'll swap halfway through as a solution for my indecisiveness. This time we chose the Monte Cristo and the grilled chicken sandwich. Both were delicious and satisfying. I ordered the Mac and Cheese as my side and while it was yummy, I only wish the portion was slightly larger. One daughter ordered the Pot pie and the other chose the grilled chicken with rice off the kids menu. I had a bite of each of theirs and both were excellent. They have a wide variety of cocktails to choose from (see my pictures) and the two we tried did not disappoint. We also had a Cookie Monster to finish off our meal and it was just okay. I was hoping it would rival BJ's pizookie, but it fell a little short. The service was great and the manager even came by to introduce herself after she heard we were first timers. The food was hood as always but the customer service from our particular waitress (Kaylene) was horrible. She did not give us our eating utensils nor did she ask us about refills after sitting without drinks for about 20 minutes. When the matter was addressed her response was, "I was bringing other their food." Even though I watched her go to all the tables around us several times checking on them. 3.5 Stars Went to Cheddar's with a small group while visiting El Paso. It's an American style restaurant with a bar, so that was cool. We got there at 11:30am for an early lunch which was great as it wasn't as busy as usual. We beat the rush by about 30 minutes. Our server was nice and took our order promptly. Two of us ordered the fried catfish which was delicious. It was cornmeal mixed with a beer batter which is different than the usual southern style, but wow it was good. Crunchy and cornmeal flavors over a perfectly prepared catfish. For sides I got red beans and rice which tasted spot on, but it was more like a soup. Still tasty though. I also got the coleslaw which was just sweet enough to be the way I like it. The grilled catfish was pretty tasty too. I grew up on southern fried food, but this was definitely a tasty alternative. My girlfriend got the Napa Chicken Ciabatta which was a new item. It contained seasoned chicken breast served on a Ciabatta bun with roasted garlic aioli, roasted tomatoes, Fontina cheese, avocado and spring mix. Really tasty. . Unfortunately, her fries came almost after we finished, so I deducted a little star power for that. They also do not do anything for birthday celebrations, so just be warned if you're expecting something (or if you don't like those type of things, go for it). I am always on the hunt for a GREAT Monte Cristo sandwich... this restaurant's version is NOT it! (More on that later). Upon walking in, we gave our name to a young lady at the reception station. We were not given any confirmation of wait time, so we sat down.Other people came in while still others were seated. About five minutes later, a couple walked in and gave their name to the reception station. Shortly there after, a young man mumbling OUR reservation name ("XXX, party of 2"), so we stood, but he approached the recently arrived couple AND SAT THEM!! We then approached the reception station, telling them WE were the "XXXX, party of 2" and they took an entirely different couple that walked in later. Strike 1! Our waitress (Sally) was pretty prompt in taking our order. I ordered the Monte Cristo - the reason I picked Cheddar's while we were on the east side of town. I am a purist with this sandwich - Classic with Ham and cheese, bread soaked in an egg bath then pan fired. This was NOT that sandwich. Not sure if it even HAD bread, as it seemed like rolled meat and cheese heavily coated with batter then deep fat fried. It was VERY greasy. The coating, which I am going to call a shell, was hard and the entire concoction fell apart when you bit into it. I ordered a dinner salad as my side- they charge EXTRA. I specifically asked for the salad to come out WITH the sandwich. I knew I would eat the salad while the sandwich cooled. Salad did NOT come out with the main order. I had to ask the server, who was not the original ordering waitress, for the salad, and waited 5 minutes for it to come to the table. Standard iceberg lettuce, with shredded carrots and cheese, with added chopped hard boiled egg and a s sliced grape tomato halves. Why an EXTRA charge?? Butter croissants are amazing and the painkiller drink is lovely. Dining in is usually the way to go but there's always a long wait. I've been trying out their takeout services since covid and it's really disappointed me. I've gone at least 3 times using their takeout and every time they've forgotten a full entree. I still get charged for everything and I don't notice the missing items until I get home. Pointless to drive all the way back. I live 30min away. We ate in the bar area and our waitress was young and a bit immature. She had no knowledge of items to suggest outside of steaks and she was SUPER slow!! I had to tell her to clear the empty plates from the table when she did finally show up. The BF had a strawberry lemonade (meh) and the sheppards pie (ugly and semi-tasty). I had the sangria margarita (all mix, no tequila, grrrrr) and the tropical chicken/shrimp dish. We both shared the edamame & buttered croissants. Overall the meal was okay. I think it should be illegal for any restaurant to serve canned grean beans but what can you do. After both of us ate, our bill was $30 (alcohol and all). How is that possible?!?! Again, what can I say!!! My favorite restaurant by far AND the El Paso location rocked!!!!! This place was crowded, but all Cheddar's usually are. They are notorious for having GREAT dishes. Upon entering we were greeted nicely with smile and seated promptly. Our waiter, Leslie, greeted us in the same fashion. She absolutely made our visit here fabulous. She was friendly and prompt with our drinks, order. A true Texas charm she made with this visit. The food was greatly seasoned to taste, steak superb, salad and crescent roll yummy! I love love Cheddar's. Always good food at very affordable prices! The wait staff is friendly and promptly serve you, and keep an eye out for refills. My favorite dishes are the Montecristo sandwich, Lemon Pepper Chicken and Dijon Chicken with mushrooms. The chips and queso are a good and affordable appetizer! Try to go early for lunch since dinner and Fridays is usually packed. I only had one negative experience when our waitress was also waiting on a table with 5+ guests... also, my chicken fried steak was terribly tough and not breaded correctly. When we were finally seated our waiter took a long time to come take our drink order. Once we had finally ordered our food was brought to the table but we had to wait 15 minutes for silverware. by the time we got it the food was cold. So the only time we've eaten here was in little rock Arkansas. We had flown in from our home in Okinawa to visit my side of the family. Just our luck, it was the worst snow storm they've ever had and over 75% of the city was without power. It was late, we were hungry... This place was walking distance and open. We loved it..... Fast forward 4 yrs to present day and now we're in El Paso! Was on that side of town, saw it, said why not. Second trip, second success at Cheddars. I had the Monte Cristo and it was amazing! My wife had some Cajun chicken shrimp pasta thing and loved it. We ordered chips and salsa with queso and the salsa was spicy, good. We finished it off with some giant hot cookie toped with fudge and ice cream. That was the best ... I'd eat 2 if I could! All in all the food we ordered was semi quick, very well prepared, and not terribly expensive. As far as go to chains (Applebee's, Chili's, outback etc) in our experience Cheddars is the best out of them all. We will for sure be going back until the time comes that we have poor service or poor food. Maybe not worth going way out of the way for, but if you're within close proximity, it's worth a shot. And again the Monte Cristo was great! I mean, it's ham, turkey, 2 cheeses, inside of a donut/French toast kinda powder sugared thing... With raspberry preserves to dip it in. All nice and warm straight out the frying pan. While extremely unhealthy, it's extremely delicious. As most unhealthy things are. Go check it out for yourself. Had the 14oz. Ribeye, have of it was fat. The meat itself was very chewy and hard. The service was great no doubt. So next time you decide to order the ribeye count on 7 ozs, of fat. The second grade meat always has a lot of fat and very chewy. read more
