Maine Root Blueberry Soda Cup of Tomato Basil Soup (V) Smoked Robinson
Rita R.

I was very curious to come here and try out what they had to offer, very interesting concept to sell different kinds of grilled cheeses! So I tried the grilled cheese with ham and a sweet jelly! It was a very good mixture of sweet and salty and a nice toasty buttery bread! I love the tomatoes soup, it was so nostalgic dipping my sandwich in the dipping soup, sooo good! I highly recommend stoping by, it's only order to go but they do have a small sitting area outside if you want to enjoy the weather, other wise it's just pick up. The service was great, they really have a niche idea, with great food to back up the unique experience. The blueberry drink I had was very different, I think it's some kind of ale, but non alcoholic just fyi!

Love taking out my lunch from this local spot! I got the lunch combo which consisted the turkey cheese sandwich, basil soup and choice of drink for $15. The portion is HUGE!!! Personally I felt the turkey was salty but it could be a me thing.Other than that everything was tasty and fresh. HUGE PORTIONS. There isn't a dine in option, you order online and if the seats in-front of the place is free you can eat there. More of a to-go place. Definitely will try their other options!

We were in town for a wedding and staying at a nearby Air B&B right down the street. I ordered food online and went to pick it up. It's a small little place with only a few seats. My food was ready to go when I arrived approximately 20 minutes after ordering. I got the turkey panini to split with my wife. I got the classic which has lettuce, tomatoes, red onion and mayo. It was exceptional! The cheese was gooey and sandwich hot and delicious. My wife got the pimento cheese with crackers which is sourced and made locally. They also had beer to go! I tried a blueberry ale from Isley Brewing, which is also local. We also got two cookies which were soft and chewy, just the way we like them. Definitely will order from here again if back in town in the future.

This is a hidden little gem with great food. I tried the Smoked Robison with tomato soup dipping sauce. It was absolutely delicious. To order you must use the chaos or scan the QR code and order using your phone. I highly recommend this place!

Yaaaaaassssssse! This spot gives me all the feels. First off, it is black owned and this gentleman is so hands on. He had me at "I don't use Daiya cheese" and I'm working on "vegan crab cakes" Can I get an AMEN?!?! Then as I'm sitting here typing my review, said owner, runs out because a patron forgot their beverages. So good food cooked by a good soul?!?! CHUUUUUURCH All games aside, the culinary creativity behind this place aims for perfection. All vegan food is not created equal. The folks at Cheddar Jackson are always aiming to make the food better. Plus, I'm now up on this new boogie sparkling water that is the truth. I mean, LAVENDER CUCUMBER?!?! How much more hipster cool can one get. Come here. Eat food. Oh yeah, they have regular meat too. If you are interested in consuming rotten flesh. Lastly, Cheddar Jackson has recently collaborated with Solstice Confectionery for baked sweets. I am not a sweet tooth person but the cookies were on point. Listen to me. Eat here. Stay safe. Happy New Year!

It was lunchtime, and I remembered Cheddar Jackson just opened in Jackson Ward, so I scooted on over and got the Northern Liberties on wheat, which comes with a 1/2 cup of chunky tomato basil soup. The bread was THE BOMB (so buttery and crispy just like a panini should be), but honestly, the filling (onions and peppers) was so tart, I couldn't really enjoy it. And the portabella was scant. Or maybe it all just tasted the same sour that I couldn't discern the taste of the portabella. The chunky tomato basil soup is VERY chunky. Too chunky for my taste, and yet again, too tart. Everything I ate tasted sour. Sour lunch. With just a few modifications, everything could be delicious. If there's a next time, it'll be just a plain grilled cheese. Doubtful, though. Too bad. Nice guys.

The Duval Sisters, Broccoli Cheddar soup, mango sake cocktail

"The cheese stands alone" is there motto. And they are absolutely right. This newish restaurant was in the rva black restaurant week so I decided to try. So glad I did! I looked up the menu online and at first was a bit sad there were not a ton of meat options. I was going to order online but had a few menu questions, so I just stopped by and ordered in person. It was pretty quiet since it was a weekday afternoon. The owner & staffer were nice and answered my questions quickly! The sandwich was made to order so I waited outside ~10minutes. the Duvall sisters sandwich was A-MAZING. again, the motto it absolutely right. The cheeses, the bacon jam, the buttery bread. THE BACON JAM. The cheddar broccoli was yummy too! So much broccoli in the cup, so it was really filling. I also got a mango sake. It was good -- if you don't drink sake often (like me) the flavor may be a little overpowering. I may have to try a different flavor. This place is definitely a must try!

A great black-owned spot in Jackson Ward! Upon walking in, I was greeted by the friendly staff. l and chit chatted with them as I waited for my sandwich to be prepared. You can make your order online and customize your sandwich with several different add-ons (I highly recommend the caramelized onions!). There's a nice bar area to sit indoors and a super cute outdoor area with a couple of tables. My sandwich was fresh and flavorful, and the pasta salad was the perfect cold side on a hot summer day. A great business!!

Lovely vegan panini lunch for me & my husband on this our 21st anniversary. Our melty, toasted sandwiches were perfectly wrapped in novelty parchment paper (with an image of headline news Nov 19th 1996, I think?) served w tomato soup dipping sauce, put together by Madison & Diamond, the friendly and sweet young ladies behind the counter. My husband had a yummy vegan chocolate chip cookie to round out his meal. I was too stuffed to try one this go. We also enjoyed a chat w owner Brandon, whose warm personality and enthusiasm for his business was engaging and inspiring. The paninis really hit the spot and the whole experience has us looking forward to future visits. YES Vegan friendly

No signage, not detailed on the menu, just an ambush once you've placed your order. It's a bs fee to begin with, but concealing it until the last minute is unethical. I'm guessing it will catch up with y'all as these sorts of sketchy business practices often do.

We were surprised by the size of the restaurant when we walked in. It seems smaller from the outside; not that it was huge, just deceiving. It reminded me of a homey Jason's Deli (IYKYK). The woman at the counter was helpful and kind. We had a few questions about some items on the menu, and she asked the kitchen staff anything that she didn't know offhand. We decided on the fried cauliflower for an appetizer; it was monstrously huge, and much more flavorful than I expected. The spices and textures on the plate added a lot to the dish's overall essence. I ordered the Rachel for an entree, and my partner ordered the Sharona. I subbed the chips for a side salad. The salad was tangy or tart, almost bitter. I didn't mind; I thought it was quite good. It is a lot of acidity if you are not expecting it. The Rachel was fantastic, except that the coleslaw had some onion bits mixed in. We are not onion fans in this household. Ha The Sharona would have been a better choice, as I much prefer pickles to oniony coleslaw. My partner said she really liked hers. We had half a sandwich each for leftovers the next day, and shared the leftover chips, since I finished off my salad the night before. The sandwiches heated up exquisitely in the oven at 325°F for 15 minutes. I felt that Susie's is a definite hidden gem, and I can recommend it to anyone who likes a well-made sandwich. I will be back to sample more of the menu and report back my findings at a future date.

It was a weekday after work. I went to my homegirl's house because I missed her birthday I offered to take her out someplace nice. She said no way man and immediately said we were going to this sandwich shop. This was the only thing she wanted. So we were gonna veg out on her couch. Have a couple cocktails and whatever else and watch something on TV. And her new couch is the bees knees. For me, the sandwich was perfect. The bread was beautiful and crusty. I was afraid it was going to be toasted and too crusty, and I'd be fighting to bite it and my sandwich guts spilling out while cutting up my gums and the roof of my mouth like it's Captain crunch or something.. BUT NO! It was PERFECT to bite through. They load you up with the meat they're not stingy. And the sauces... BABY! The aïoli was fantastic. My only beef is that horseradish aioli needed a little bit more of a kick, but that's a personal problem. My friend got the chicken Caesar and I see why it's popular. It is so garlicky and delicious. I already have plans on what I'm gonna get next time I go and I don't live close so it's gonna take a special trip and I intend to make it.

The servers were also tending the bar which was getting decent traffic even at lunchtime. My dining partner says there is a pool table in a back room, and that could be fun to fold into a longer visit. The piped in music was light jazz. The menu is oriented around philly cheesesteaks and variations. I ordered the chicken philly, which was large enough to make two lunches (I brought half home.) The flavor was decent, with seasoned or marinated chicken chunks and veggies & cheese on a sturdy roll. It came with a decent serving of chips. We were served a juice glass of room temp water on arrival and no drink order was taken. Negatives were related to pacing. It took a lot of time for the food to come out. We were pushed to eat even half of our sandwiches within the hour my dining partner had for lunch. The server did not check back after dropping the plates, which could have been an issue if we needed more water. And getting the check was a challenge that took way too long considering how small the place is. This is a decent place to grab a sandwich or a drink if you have the time or live in the neighborhood.

I ordered the Soprano sub, and it was absolutely incredible. It comes loaded with hot soppressata, capicola, ham, sharp provolone, arugula, olive salad, red onion, vinaigrette, and mayo on fresh bread. I added sweet peppers and banana peppers for a little extra punch, and it was a great choice. The flavors were perfectly balanced--the salty meats paired beautifully with the tangy olive salad and sharp provolone, while the vinaigrette and mayo brought everything together. The bread was amazing--crusty on the outside, soft on the inside--and it turns out they get it from New York City! The owner is such a nice guy, and we ended up chatting for a while about his bread sourcing and plans for the business. I got the Shorti Bowl, which is eggs and meat over cheese grits. It was good but I just wanted the cheese grits to commit a little harder to the cheese. The meat itself was good too, although it did feel a bit like a piece of meat had been plopped in the middle rather than everything really coming together as a dish. My husband got the sandwich with basically the same kind of meat, and somehow it was both a LOT of sandwich and not a lot of sandwich at the same time. It looked impressive as a Katz's-esque pile of meat, but once you actually got into it, it was mostly meat, bread and pickles. I kept expecting some sauce or another topping to show up and it just...didn't. Also a little unwieldy to eat, although I guess that's part of the territory when your sandwich is 70% meat. I think Lunch Supper sits in a funny middle ground between classic diner/brunch food and a more modern version of it. Nothing we had was bad, but for some of their more popular dishes I guess I expected a little more oomph if that makes sense (and yes I tried adding hot sauce). I'd still happily come back with friends, especially to sit outside. I just think I'd be coming back more for the vibes vs the food.
