Visited Waco, Texas this weekend and tried the Lone Star Grilled Cheese, which had brisket and cheddar on sourdough bread. It was warm and delicious, though it could have used more brisket, the pieces were small and there weren't many of them. We also ordered a side of tomato basil soup. It was good for dipping the grilled cheese, but I didn't enjoy it much on its own. There was no line, but the service still took a bit longer than expected. That said, I loved the Magnolia feel of the place. The ambiance was very family-oriented, with awesome music playing and plenty of great seating to relax and enjoy the meal. read more

Decided to give the Cheddar Box a try while at the Magnolia Market in Waco. We went with the Happy Couple which is a gourmet cheese sandwich (The Boss) and soup (Tomato Basil soup). The Boss which is Bacon, Gouda and Basil grilled cheese was pretty good. It was very crispy, buttery and the cheese pull was definitely there. The soup was a little lack luster. I am visiting Waco this weekend and I had to check out the magnolia shops area. I saw this food truck and decided to check it out. The lady taking our order was really nice and got us checked out fast. I ordered the old school add bacon with chips. They are advertised as gourmet, but I didn't get that vibe. The sandwhich was on regular bread and had no extra pizzazz. I felt like I could have made a better one at home. The bacon that I added really made the sandwhich. Stopped into magnolia market specifically for the food trucks. I wasn't sure if they'd be open with it being such a rainy day, but they were! They were having a bit of a problem with their card reader since it got wet but we made it happen with cashapp. I got the power couple- grilled cheese and mac combo with a rasp rosemary lemonade. The price for the drink was steep but it was very large. My food was delish. I was grateful for a small menu bc making decisions is hard! We visited the Silos. We got hungry and decided to look around and see what would catch our eyes. I saw a couple of people walking around with grilled cheese and I knew it was a sign. We tried this spot while at the silos today and it was pretty good. Staff was friendly, food was made fresh to order and didn't take long to get. I do think the sandwich was a bit overpriced.. especially for how small it was and how little ingredients you get. I couldn't taste the bacon at all on the sandwich, couldn't tell you it had it even though it was supposed to. With that being said, you're at the silos so you can't expect to not pay a little bit more for convenience. I definitely wouldn't eat here again but you can't really go wrong. This is a permanent food truck located on the Magnolia Silos property. We arrived right as they opened and sat in the open seating in the food truck area. Our kiddo ordered and Old School Grilled Cheese, I opted for a combo - The Boss and Mac & Cheese. The service was quick (stay close to the truck and they did not offer a text or buzzer when the food was ready). Just about everything is more expensive at the silos, and the food trucks aren't really an exception. Also, don't bother researching menus for any of the food trucks in advance, because what they'll actually have there will be much less of a variety than what you see online. On the bright side, going on a Tuesday in April, there weren't much in the way of lines. They only actually had two types of grilled cheese sandwiches...your basic grilled cheese and the Boss, which had Gouda (I think), bacon, and basil. We got both plus sides of the Mac and cheese. The sandwiches aren't huge, but the flavor is pretty good. The sides of Mac and cheese were really good. Quite rich. Three of those combos and two drinks were around $42, not to mention my giant $9 sweet tea from Alabama Sweet Tea. It was all pretty good, but I'll likely try someplace else if I'm here at Magnolia again. read more

GRILLED CHEESE LOVERS UNITE! HIGH PRAISE for this food truck eats, situated on the hallowed grounds of the Magnolia Market and Silos "estate" on Webster Ave in Waco. An out-of-town girls trip brought us to Magnolia-land - 2 full days of touring, gawking and shopping all things Fixer Upper-inspired on a Fri and Sat. Because we shopped the first day (Friday) of the 2-day visit at the main attraction Market-Silos, we returned the next day (Saturday) in the mid afternoon (2PMish) not to shop but specifically to check out the famous food truck offerings lining the property (NO WAITING IN LINE just to come onto the property grounds to hang out on the green and partake of the food trucks.). We couldn't leave Waco without saying we had eaten at one of the Silo food trucks! Breaking up the visit to the Silos into 2 trips allowed us to take in and extend our enjoyment of the Market-Silos area twice (what's not to love about that?!) and see different things both days since that Webster Avenue area offers so much to do (Market-Silos, food trucks, Bakery, Magnolia Press (and the "coming soon" Magnolia Home showroom (!!)), The Findery, Rustico, Jimmy Don's pop up shop to name a few). PLAN AHEAD. We went to Magnolia Table (a drive from the Silos) for an early bfast (see my review!) which timed our hunger pangs just right for a mid-afternoon lunch - which led us back to the Silos to check out the food truck fare - PERFECT TIMING. We happily missed the 12noon lunch crush though even at 2PM, there were lines at each truck. I recommend advance planning the evening before or in the morning over breakfast (skip the sad free hotel bfast buffet and head to Magnolia Table for a proper comfort food hot breakfast!) to size up the food truck menu options (Hello Yelp!!) so you're not spending precious time trying to make a decision there on the spot (like we did...lesson learned!). Good news - the fact that everything is truly made to order. Don't fret about finding a table to eat at - there are PLENTY of community tables on the green, benches lining the green and, worst case, astro turf seating in a pinch. Thankfully, Cheddar Box menu choices are limited so decision making is easy. One of us ordered the Power Couple combo - The Boss grilled cheese with a side of mac&cheese. The other ordered the Happy Couple combo - Old School grilled cheese with a side of tomato basil soup. We agreed to share half of each sandwich, mac&cheese and tomato soup so we both got to sample everything. :) When we got our order and unwrapped the goodies, everything was PIPING HOT! The grilled cheese halves when pulled apart had the classic string of cheese hanging from each half! The bread was nicely toasted and crisped. The sandwiches were NOT overly greasy or messy - HURRAY! In fact, the bright yellow paper that each sandwich was carefully wrapped in not only kept the sandwich toasty-warm but also seemed to prevent the sandwich from self-condensating (is that not a word?) and becoming limp, soft and soggy. The sandwiches remained perfectly crisp throughout! The tomato soup was delicious! Awesomely flavorful, densely rich and creamy with that hint of basil. The side o' mac&cheese was packed with perfectly chewy-cooked noodles smothered in gooey cheese - it could have been a meal in itself, no lie. SOOOO GOOOOD. The 2 combo meals and a bottle of Andy's Fresh Squeezed Lemonade was just right for a mid afternoon lunch meal for the 2 of us. What I especially love and appreciate about the whole Magnolia "experience" is that while Chip & Jo (yes, we're on a first name basis haha) and, by association their partner vendors, could totally get away with jacking up prices (think Disney World $8 bottled waters, $10 bags of buttered popcorn at the movie theaters or $15 hot dog and soda combos at concert and sports venues - UGH!), they don't! Prices are super reasonable for what you get and for the super high quality of the food. This time I ordered the "That's My Jam" (yeah the dishes have cool names too), which consists of Melted Gouda, Bacon Jam and a fried egg inside French toast, a gooey madness, I mean if that doesn't make you want to jump in your car and drive to Waco, I don't know that else will?
