Great selection of beers and have definitely grown since the last time I came here (couple years). Butterfly kisses was one of my favorites, but a lot of their IPAs were very similar in their taste and profile. The seating was pretty tight so we ended up hanging out in the parking lot across the street. Can't tell if the bartenders were stressed, but they weren't the happiest on our visit; didn't entertain talking about beer at all. read more

Checkerspot is another local brewery that has opened up despite the best efforts of the MD legislature. The taproom is pretty easy to get to, although it is hidden deep in a business park area behind the casino. There is ample parking across the street under the 395 overpass, so plenty of shade in the summer. I was impressed that they had a decent variety of beers on tap and they are committed to using local ingredients where they can. The tap room itself is smallish, with a wide bar with charging outlets and several small tables where you can watch the TVs or look out the wide glass partition into the brewery where the magic happens. They are very dog friendly, possibly in synergy with BARCS across the street. Several people brought their dogs with them into the taproom, and there was one I assumed was a semi-permanent resident. If you're allergic, you can sit out on the deck or in the warehouse where the long tables and board games are. Food trucks come through regularly, and they also have bar snacks for sale. This whole business is just a welcome endeavor overall. read more

This is a new, smaller brewery located near Camden Yards in Baltimore. The beer here is pretty good! I had their sour, it was very fruit forward with a tart finish. Their pints on average are $6 and they offer smaller sizes as well. Their merchandise and logo are really nice! There is limited seating and we went on game day, so it was a little tight inside. They also have a deck outside as well. I did see a food truck outside when we arrived, but I'm unsure if the schedule or frequency of these. Checkerspot has good, affordable beer at a convenient location if you're headed to an O's game. read more

Great beer with some good friends. The stout was brewed with crab shells and absolutely delicious. They allow dogs too read more

I gave Checkerspot Brewing a try before an evening O's game and was impressed with how well put together they seem to be, given that they are a relatively new business. It is not too far of a walk from Camden Yards and is pretty small on the inside, but the atmosphere has character and the bartenders were all very attentive. I first tried their pale ale, 2 Paws 2, which is a collaborative effort with Flying Dog. It was a nice refreshing ale, perfect for somebody who doesn't like a lot of hops. It is apparently brewed with locally grown fruits such a mangoes, but I didn't taste those flavors as much as I had hoped. Next, I tried their Juniperus IPA, which was definitely more my style. This brew has strong hints of pine and comes off rather hoppy, but if you're an IPA fan you will love the intense flavor. Each pint is around $6-$7, which in my experience seems to be the average price for most breweries. They have about 10 brews on tap at the moment including a cream ale, a saison, a sour, and several pale ales. read more

I stopped by for the first time yesterday. The brewery is located in the shadows of the Raven's stadium and not too far from Camden Yards. There is plenty of parking across from the location. The location could use a more eye catching sign, but that is the only slightly negative I can say about my Checkerspot experience. I wasn't certain what door was the entrance but the building is not large and it was easy to determine once I parked and approached the building itself. It was a Wednesday and the fact the the brewery was open was great. There was one bartender but she was very friendly and helpful. Talked about the bar, location, and some advantages of stopping by for Oriole games. The inside was pretty large and well lit due to the windows in front. There were some games and snacks (cheese and similar) available on Wednesday. I understand they do have a working kitchen and occasional food truck on the weekends. The beer was excellent. I tried 7-8 different beers. The selection was outstanding as well. There were multiple styles available so there were plenty of choices. The bartender made some recommendations based upon my tastes. All of the beer I tried was at least good, and I thought 4 of them were excellent. I even took two different beers home in Crowlers. Overall, the building was nice inside, the staff was friendly, and the beer had a lot of different selections - the ones I tried were very good. I am not often in the area but when I end up near here I will be stopping by again. I may even try to get some friends together for a baseball game and work in a pregame at Checkerspot. read more

I see bright things in the future! This place is a three person operation, two of which is a husband and wife team #couplegoals. I enjoyed all the beers I tried, such as the IPA unicorn, stout (made with crab), and the Jean Quad (never had a quad that perfectly married dark fruit and bourbon flavors). The place is BYOF but they do sell some small snacks. The tasting room is currently small but there is an expansion that is close to completion. All in all, a great addition to the neighborhood. read more

Checkerspot Brewery did an amazing job hosting our wedding after party. They reserved the entire second floor for our party and provided us with great catering options, music and bartenders. Denis was easy to work with and the entire staff was great to us and our guests. On top of all this, the beer is delicious! Highly recommend having any event here. read more

I love the Force Unleashed maibock, it is so amazing. Reasonable prices and assorted size of glasses for your beer. I love the ambience too, it's simple and completely unpretentious! Five stars in my book. read more

Checkerspot Brewing - Force Unleashed maibock! Sooooo tasty - Breweries Near Me - Baltimore, Maryland

Great brewery to visit before a game. Came with my craftbrew experts-- my family. Tasted many different wonderful beers for everyone's taste. Oldest loved Juniperus which he thought had a great mix of fruits with a hint of pine and not overly sweet. My daughter-in-law loves the Locally Delicious StoneFruit. Husband loves First Whisper. On top of great beers, we met some interesting dogs as it is dog-friendly. There were great bits of foods. To top it off, the artwork is fabulous for the various labels! By the way... Adair was fabulous! read more

First and foremost, as someone who wasn't born in Maryland I can't wrap my head around brewing beer with crab shells (who even came up with that?!?!) but yeah it was good. Like really smooth and enjoyable good. Plus I like the idea of finding uses for the non meat parts of the crab. I really liked the Keeper. Get the Oktoberfest too while you're at it. Because it was nice. Husband enjoyed the NEIPA. They're doing some work on the front of the brewery but it didn't affect our visit at all. The taproom is comfortable with windows into the brewery itself. The decor has some character with a big wooden MD sign with the logo and lights hung from driftwood. They have a few TVs and were playing movies today. I suspect with as close to the stadium as they are and the Raven Purple beer that that is not always the case. read more

Our first time checking this spot out and we're sold! Great tap list. They're dog friendly. So 5 stars.

Finally got to.check this place out after hearing a lot of great recommendations about it and I was not disappointed. It's a little out of the way, but all of the beer I tried was delicious (the bourbon brown and Keeper Milk Stout were my favorite, but the milk stout has crab shell in it so if you're allergic to shellfish, beware!). I really wanted to try the nectarine beer but unfortunately they were out. The vibe was very casual, not too hip, a little more intimate than other local breweries like Union or Nepenthe, and they had kind of unusual snacks (sleeves of Ritz crackers, Toblerone bars, etc.) As well as small plates of bar food (olives, nuts, things like that). I don't think they have a kitchen, so they don't have anything that really has to be cooked or prepared. read more

Had a fantastic time checking out Checkerspot. Large variety of beer, and they are brewed well. The space has a lot of character, really nice place to kick back and have some brews. Great service. Feels like a family run place. Great food too that pairs quite nicely w/ the beers. Drink local! read more

We just had my husband's birthday party at Checkerspot. I was worried because the number of people went up to 20 but I can not say enough how safe we all felt in the enormous outdoor area and the waythat everyone was able to socially distance and still be together. We had them cater the event and not only was the food absolutely delicious and the beer incredible but the way they served it made everyone comfortable and feel safe. During this time, we have been living like hermits due to COVID - it is an incredible thing for me and my husband to go out with friends and feel safe and have a great time. Checkerspot allows us to do this. read more

Quite nice! It's dog friendly place. Very nice and family environment! The bar attendee suggests good options and also lets you try before you get a drink! They don't have much to eat, every thing was out of the fridge, however the cheese platter was good enough! read more

My kind of hang out spot! Plenty of free parking, space to spread out, tables large enough for groups, good beer, good service, cute dogs. Really couldn't ask for much more! You can also rent the upstairs for parties. If you like craft beer check out checkerspot! read more

Amazing beer and great atmosphere (not too loud like some breweries can be). Really good variety of styles and I love that they usually have a few Belgian style beers. They also allow dogs and have a variety of events at the brewery. read more

We hosted both our wedding rehearsal and after party at Checkerspot. Denis was the BEST. He was easy to work with, gave us stellar catering recommendations, and gave us VIP treatment. If you haven't thought of this local-hotspot as more than a place to grab a quick beer, now is a good time to start. They can host any event and we are so glad we chose them for some of our wedding festivities. 10/10 would recommend! read more

I love this place! Went here for a Mario cart tournament and it was awesome! Nice atmosphere, great staff and dog friendly! And the best part of all... the PICKLES!!!! I love them! It's their own recipe and I'm literally addicted to them! read more

Another excellent Brewery in Baltimore. I had their sour, an IPA and a Belgian Quad. All were excellent! A hidden gem in South Baltimore. That had a small selection of 'bar food' but I didn't try them. read more

Several issues: 1. Gentleman making the food was handling money and using his hands in the bbq meat 2. Owner was rude and purposely locked bathroom door so patrons with children would leave the premises. 3. They go out of their way to not attend to the customer. The exact opposite of how a small business owner should think. 4. Beer was good. However, given how they treat the food, cant imagine their beer process is much different. Opinion: Will be out of business in 6 months and rightfully so. read more

Some of the best small batch brewing we've had in Baltimore, hands down. We tried the Beer Pong (session IPA), Stomping Ground (pale ale), Jean Quad (Belgian quad), and Psycho Haze (New England IPA). All of them were phenomenal, as was the service from the bartender. It isn't too often we get down to this part of the city, but we'll certainly make this a regular stop on our future visits. read more

My new favorite brewery in B'more! Great beer selection (multiple sour beers for those of us so inclined) and great staff; Angie Rocks! I also highly suggest the Strongman (Belgian golden string ale). Dog friendly (shout out to Bear!) and a fun stop over for those in Fed Hill and/or stadium bound. Do yourselves a favor and check out this new spot. They have brewery tours too, but I haven't done one yet. read more

Great spot for some local brews. Friendly and fun staff, great selection, relaxing tap room and cant beat the location. Literally next to M&T Stadium & Camden Yards. Forget the crappy light beers out of the back of your car cooler, definitely the spot to be on gamedays. read more

Great selection of beers and all are delicious. Laid back spot with a few TVs and dogs are welcome. And all the beers are gluten free!

This is such a cool little brewery! Beers choices are great, service is awesome, and even some neat food choices. A gem tucked away next to the stadiums! We will definitely be back! read more

All the beers were excellent. While they don't have food, they had a solid food truck. The main concern that I have -- and this is a big one -- is that their chairs are in terrible condition and ultimately not very safe to sit in. Keep brewing excellent beer but please consider purchasing newer, safer chairs. read more

Ask about the small batch and have the knowledgeable bar tender explain what is currenty available. It's gonna be good. Very good, larger than you expect space with a cool room past the kettles. Very highly recommended. read more

A very inviting Brewery. Their Craft beers are Plentiful and Delicious. They have a beautiful view of the brewing factory and several Tvs and cable for your entertainment. The bartenders are friendly and easy to talk to. Also very Knowledgable of not only their large selection, but of Craft beer in general which is awesome. I will deffinently be visiting again and looking forward to the finishing of there expansion. I was lucky enough to meet the Master brewer which was a treat. I look forward to visiting again in the near future and Highly suggest to come pay them a visit and tell them @pourofbaltimore sent you read more

The beer is OK but the food is not. We had the Watermelon Here and Juniperous beers, 1/4 chicken (which we are fairly certain was actually turkey) and potato salad. Our food was cold and flavorless. No hot sauce to impart flavor. Don't come here if you're hungry or eat before you come. $30. Screaming children available. read more

Awesome spot! Currently under construction but open for business. Plenty of parking under the bridge, excellent selection, and chill vibes. Functional seating area with lots of tables and TVs. Great service, highly recommend read more

The female bartender is extremely rude. Tried to come check out the beers, there was limited parking so we decided to ask if parking on the sidewalk like the other cars had done was legitimate and her response was, "Yea, no." (In a Becky-like voice). Meanwhile, the owner just stood by and let his employee address potential customers so rudely. read more

I'm not sure if 5 stars is too high but I'd say it's closer to 5 than 4 so that's what I'm going with. The Hefeweizen with the Apple I was worried would be too sweet but it was actually just the perfect amount of subtle Apple taste. Bartender was super friendly, accommodating, and informative. Walked in randomly on a Monday and there was a small group playing guitars and it was the perfect reprieve from a full day of packing/moving. Definitely worth checking out. Bonus points to having a nice big parking lot. read more

Great beer and atmosphere. Loved the "HERE" beer paw paw. Clean. Dog friendly. Televisions on the walls. Snacks and games too.

Great beer and great people! Several small batch options I'm excited to try in May. They also are going to be opening an upstairs area that I can't wait to see. Big wig is always a solid staple. Lots of events involving the community. read more
