Overall: beautiful interior, good vibes, tasty beer, super inclusive restrooms, good service, overall incredible place We loved the old location, but this was our first time at the new location and it blew our minds. The vibes were positive all around. The interior was gorgeous. The bathroom set up literally gave me chills. I love seeing people be incredibly thoughtful and inclusive and think outside the box. I enjoyed every beer I tried (mostly sours, IPAs, and a session). We went for a volunteer event with Untapped, so it was also cool to see that they partner with great folks and support organizations like that. Can't wait to go back.
Checkerspot Brewery is off the beaten path, but a few blocks away from the stadium where the Ravens play. It is huge, has an elongated bar, plenty of seating, and an upstairs arcade. The service was great and the beer was even better. The BEER: Bella Birra Italian Pils 5.3% ABV... Oh wow! Pils with a hint of lemon, no very crushable. Delicately crafted and delicious Bird is the Word honey Kolsch 5.5% ABV... it is a kolsch. Didn't catch the honey on the 1st sip, but once it got warmer, the flavors were there 395 Rye amber Lager 5.4% ABV... this is a keeper, clean mouth feel, bold layered flavors. A solid, totally crushable, all day beer Barleywine 11% ABV... oh yum, prunes, lemon, a little boozy, but equally delicious They have some food options here. I didn't partake, but there was a reuben, and a hummus platter I might try on my next visit. The beer at Checkerspot is topnotch.
This is a cute spot. Very open and spacious. There is an arcade upstairs with pinball machines. They serve small bites. One of my favorites is the flat bread pizza. The craft beer selection is really good. There is something for everyone. The staff is very friendly. This woman owned local spot is great place to grab a beer and catch up with friends. Also they are dog friendly.
This is one of my favorite breweries in Baltimore. It's a plus that it's woman-owned and dog-friendly. They always seem to be having exciting new events so always keep a lookout on their Facebook page. The beers they have on tap are very diverse and constantly rotating. They are appropriate for almost every palette. If you're unsure, they allow you to try a sample of the beer before actually purchasing it. They have everything from IPAs to lagers with very unique flavor profiles and names. The beers are relatively cheap. They have a second floor for extra seating and a ton of board games. They have a unisex bathroom, which happened to be very clean to my surprise. In regards to food, they do allow you to bring outside food, but they also have a small New Orleans-style food menu as well. I got the Chicken & Andouille Jambalaya ($14) which was good, but the portion was so small for the price you pay. I also got the Spicy Shrimp Remoulade Wrap ($14) which was not as flavorful, but came with chips and a slice of pickle.
Awesome venue! The beer is delicious and there plenty of room for large parties. Theres also a small menu for food- we got a pizza it was pretty good! Had a great time here, will definitely be coming back!
my first time here and it was a lovely time. BISM hosted a fundraising event for the blind industries and I had a ball. The beer options were cheap and very tasty. I saw food but didn't get a chance to order due to socializing. The service was quick and friendly. Dog friendly lots of dogs and dog treats around. I would def return. The bathrooms and everywhere were clean and inviting. the space opened up and it was light and air flowed through nicely. I'll be back!
This was my first time coming to the new location. I had been to the other spot they had before a while back but didn't really remember it. This one was easy to locate right off the highway in an industrial area. There was plenty of street parking as well as parking on the side in the lot they share with neighboring businesses. I would assume the other businesses are closed during evening hours since there was so much parking available. The inside was very spacious with plenty of open seating. Came in on a Thursday night that meet a couple of coworkers and it wasn't crowded. They do serve food but the menu is limited. I think all of their beers are brewed in house. Some and great and some are a little weird. They will allow you to have small samples before you order a full sized glass. I say try a few until you find one you like. They have trivia nights and other special events so check out their website.
Great beers and good food! There is a great selection of beers, from stouts to sours, lagers to IPAs. Every beer was made with thought. They have an amazing sour called Sip Happens made with Earl Grey tea and lemon. Even if you don't like sours, you might like this one - it turned many in our group! The food is decent. Not amazing and pretty basic but does what is needed if you're drinking beers. The brewery itself is quite large, but can get loud when it's crowded. We saw a celebration of life, a birthday AND a running group meet up on our visit, which makes me think it's pretty integrated into the community.
I absolutely loved coming here. It was completely random and I just so happen to pass the restaurant while I was on my way to an event. The event just happened to start late so I stopped in there to just hang out. It's a great spot to relax and listen to some good music. They play such an eclectic mix of music. It was great. They have a bunch of different flavors of beers and for me, a non-beer drinker, I even got a cup of beer and it was delicious. The staff was really helpful with letting me know what beers they have on top, when they do tours of the brewery, and just the overall theme of the restaurant. The bartender helped me decide what beer I might like for somebody who doesn't like the taste of beer and he was spot on. They do have food there, but it's a very limited menu and it's a different type of set up. So it's not a typical restaurant where you go in and you order with a waiter and they deliver your food. It's literally a hole in the wall window that you order from. Even with that though the food was good. It's pretty much typical bar food. I ended up getting pretzel bites with cheese and potato chips and onion dip. I really like that the restaurant allows you to bring your dogs in. They have dog treats in a lot of different areas of the restaurant. It's really nice because they have a huge floor to ceiling window that you can look into and see all of the brewing equipment that they use. They also have some arcade games upstairs. I think my favorite part was that each stall in the bathroom had its own unique theme. Go check this place out for yourself!
I had a lovely time checking out this brewery right by the Orioles and Ravens stadium. I have been wanting to check out h the brewery for a while because their beers are sold at the Oriole's Stadium and who doesn't love Baltimorean beer?! When I visited, there was a cute Valentine's Day Market featuring many local businesses. Beyond the shops, I had a great time talk to the bartender and figuring out what beer I should try based on my taste preferences. Overall, I had a relaxing time at the brewery with friends :) The restrooms are clean and organized, I love how the women's restroom is baseball themed! One caveat would be that there is very limited parking, a small parking lot on the property is there but it's not well marked and there are not many clear signs of where to park. But I managed to find parking in the adjacent streets. Con; limited parking not clear signs on where to park
I went to the grand opening of Checkerspot Brewing Co. in Pigtown! This is a female owned brewery so everyone should come out and support this amazing brewery. Beers: With 13 brews to choose from, I went with Sip Happens, the lone sour on the menu. I highly recommend it to people who prefer wine over beer. It doesn't remind me of a traditional beer because this sour has a hint of tea in it. Service: It's the grad opening, so it's really busy. Overall the staff here is friendly. Ambiance: A really cool beer hall. I can see everyone in the neighborhood coming here to hang out before an O's or Ravens game. It's conviently located 3 blocks from M&T stadium. The owner thought of everything, there's a kids area on the second floor to distract the kids while the parents enjoy themselves. There's live music, outdoor seating and local food trucks.
This is absolutely my favorite brewery in South Baltimore, if not all of Maryland. The welcoming atmosphere, the friendly staff and hands down the best beer I've ever had all come together to make it one of my favorite places to be. It's great before a game, on a Sunday afternoon, or after work with friends. They're inclusive and community focused, and have done a ton for the area around the brewery. They also do so much to help worthy causes like BARCS, Second Chance, community cleanup, and Baltimore Compost Collective to name a few. It really is a special place that I'm proud to be a regular!
Excellent beer!!! This is a great brewery with cool decor and friendly staff. We loved the beer selection. Would definitely like to try on a weekend.
All I can say is when the people behind the scenes are good, everything around them is amazing. Great atmosphere, great staff - Thank you Justin for not giving me a side eye for throwing my sample cup in your tip jar lots of laughs - I had 0 drinks at the time by the way - the tour was fantastic, having gained knowledge about the industry helps this prior non-beer drinker excited and brings the experience to life - up stairs or downstairs doesn't matter - great social place for groups or come on your own - I did and I met and had a great time. Until next time Cheers Kenya The Queen of Wandz Don't forget my motto: "Love Until It Stops Hurting" Let's heal the world, one dang smile at a time... read more

Like the location near the stadiums and now Top Golf. The beers are good with their IPA's being the best - the Spruce Bruce was solid. I was disappointed that hey do not offer flights but they do serve 1/2 pints and you can ask for taste samples before you order. It is a good place to hangout after stadium events while you wait for traffic to clear out. read more

We tried the new location. They now have food. The beer hasn't changed. Also, they still allow dogs. If you love a fresh ale, seek out the Eyelash Viper. read more
Checkerspot is everything you want in a brewery: great beer, dog-friendly, great atmosphere, and woman-owned. I only had time to try one beer, but everyone in my party got something different and loved it so I'm pretty sure you can't go wrong! I'll definitely be back. read more

We are here for the grand opening. A nice big crowd! Their beer is terrific! I'm having the 395 Rye and my wife the Hillbilly Gold. Both are very good. They have food trucks too! read more
My husband and I stopped in for a couple beers yesterday while brewery hopping through Baltimore. I am so glad we found this place because it was awesome! I really enjoyed the beers we tried and the bartenders were super friendly! Although I didn't have my pup with me this time, they are dog friendly! read more

Great local brewery where I attended a private party in their upstairs space (where dogs are not allowed, although folks had brought their doggoes downstairs, where there was also music and games to borrow). Please beware if you're planning to host an event and invite people who can't or don't drink beer, that they offer 2 nonalcoholic beers but don't have any non-beer drinks*. I don't drink beer but was able to finish the grapefruit seltzer over 2 hours (still kinda hoppy). *Looking at the online menu, they might offer 2 kinds of soda? Although my aunt went downstairs looking for a Diet Pepsi and also came back with a seltzer. Anyway, the signature butterfly-shaped pretzels came with 2 different dipping sauces and were a big hit. We were also able to bring in our own food. Restrooms upstairs and parking across the street, although we had to pay because an Orioles game was happening at the same time. Finally, I hear they're moving in August--it's totally worth taking them down! read more
Cool brewery near the stadium! I had the Daydream cream ale and my husband had the Nitro Keeper. Both were excellent! I know IPAs tend to be a popular style but if you're not a big fan, try the two I mentioned. They usually have food trucks but there are a couple of small snack items to directly purchase as well. You can wander into the brewing area to check out the equipment, and they have some fun games to play out there too. My husband won two out of three games of Connect Four against me! Stop on by. Have a good beer. Oh, and say hi to my friend Kelli on Thursdays! read more

I got to try a few delicious local brews at Checkerspot by getting their half-pint option. Tried the Earl Gray/Lemon sour beer, Blackberry Bramble, and the Chamomile Saison. I liked the sour beer so much that I got two of them! Cool atmosphere and ample parking across the street (under the bridge), when there isn't an event. read more

We visited on a Saturday afternoon around 3pm. Although it was busy, the service was amazing and the employees were super knowledgeable about their beer. The upstairs was reserved for a private event, but there were seats available downstairs. Table size appeared to be max 6 people for anyone looking for a place to go with a group. There are outdoor tables in the shade under the overpass for those who want to sit outside. Plenty of diversity in their brew styles and lots of to-go options. I opted for a NEIPA brewed with the hops from New Zealand and it was delicious! read more

Love floral beers? Then this is the spot for you! I'm constantly on the hunter for the next floral beer and seeing the rose saison made me need to try this spot while swinging through the city. With a complex flavor that is both approachable for those not super into craft beer and satisfying for those who are, it's truly one great beer! The other options I sampled were delicious as well, but the Saison de Fleur: ROSE stoke the show for me. I also purchased a growler and can't wait for my next visit, the staff was just as delightful as the beer. read more

I've been here a couple of times. It's always had a great atmosphere and knowledgeable, friendly beertenders. But now that they've doubled in size?? I love it! It's a great spot with good beer, a lot of room, and ample parking across the street! What more could you ask for? I had the Jingle Bel, a seasonal Belgian dark, that was definitely worth it. In the past I've had the Juniperus, one of the flagship beers, and loved it. read more

I love this place. A new frills brewery where the owners and brewers are just hanging out like everyone else. The number of great beers offers something for everyone and the staff makes it thier business to find a beer for everyone. The house IPA called Juniperus is one of the most balanced and approachable IPA I've ever head. They offer some of the most original events, Babes in the Brewery, Craft Nights, Pickin Parties, Self Defense class, endless creativity coming from the entire experience. read more

My husband and I decided to walk here from downtown. Only took us about 35 minutes. Really off the beaten path, but really worth it. The beer was fantastic. They were not doing flights, so we just got a couple of pints. I had their Belgian holiday beer. Really tasty! My husband really liked the Juniperous IPA. I am glad we got to visit before the city shut down due to Covid-19. I highly recommend ordering to-go beers. Apparently their food is really good too-we didn't have enough time to try, but there were a lot of people ordering food. read more
