I've driven by plenty of times and decided to give it a try. I ordered two all American cheeseburgers and a small fry and the total came out to $7.03. I thought it was odd as the burgers based on the sign showed $1.79 so $3.58 for 2 burgers and $3+ for the fries? I paid cash and didn't get a receipt. The burger was basic and the fries were given to my child and were very small like not even some fries diver flowing and falling into the bottom of the bag. I could've bought a whole bag of fries at the market and made them at home with plenty to spare for the price. I even drove back around to take a picture of the menu board. read more

Haven't had this food since I was 10 years old and living in Chicago. I did not know while I was vacationing in Florida that this chain was here. But when I saw it I knew I had to have it. Either the nostalgia over the perfectly battered and seasoned fries was going to be solidified or crushed. To my delight this place delivered. The old school checkered vibe was still there. Order was correct and all condiments were provided. Service was slow and I was asked to pull aside to wait but they said they were fresh cooking the patties. Once I received it, I of course had to dig in whole driving the rest of the loot home to the family. Mother cruncher had good flavor and was juicy but I didn't have it until I got home so it was a little mushy by then. Fries though were on another level. Pipping hot and well seasoned with bits of pepper. Also the way they fry the batter just makes it so much tastier. Hands down would come by this place again if I wanted something quick. Pick this over the McDonald's across the street any day. Not sure why this location's ratings are so low because my experience was pretty good. read more

Pure disgusted. Stopped by on Su day two weeks ago on our way back from Englewood. Ordered 20 medium wings on the bone for $20. Got home, only 9 in each box. Called and asked if this was normal. They are expensive enough without being had. They said absolutely not and to come back for a free 5 piece. We told them it might've a while because we live I. Sarasota. They said no problem, whenever we went they had a record. My husband went to Laurel Road this evening to get a pizza. And called to say he would pick up the wi gs before. It is about a 10 min further drive for us. He got there, got the box and came home. No wings on the bone. Just 6 tiny nuggets. I am so pissed. They are in the freezer now till we make a trip back. HORRIBLE SERVICE. This is the first place I have been that I experienced racism. I complained and got no where. Then there is a few ppl that will flat out complain that your order is too big. No kidding. I have had one guy many times deny taking my order bc it's too big and he has too much to do. Many times we come in and he will push a giant trash bin in front of each drive thru. It has been a while since either of us has had a Checker Burger, and as we found ourselves at this end of Venice we figured time for a check-in. If I have a gripe about fast food restaurants it is this: the speaker is right there in the middle of a huge menu board and you are bedeviled by an order taker who wants the order now. Fine, I guess, if you are a habitue but if you need to read the menu you are screwed. I ended up with a Roadhouse Burger meal and my wife had a Cheese Champ meal. The fries were as we remembered them crisp, hot, and fried with some sort of seasoning. The meal came with a medium soft-drink which looked like a large size to me. After eating the fries, I like them still hot, I could not eat the burger but decided to wait until I got back home. Both of us were pleased with our burgers. Best was after eating the calorie-loaded (680) and sodium filled (1660 mg) burger was that I had no heartburn and no stomach ache period. All I had was a good feeling after eating something I really enjoyed. It's probably this Checkers is a bit distant or I would eat here often. Horrible horrible horrible. Even for fast food - this is the lowest possible restaurant that can still be called a restaurant. I have never been treated so rudely by staff in my life. The weird system where a human doesn't take your order but rather some sort of automated robot voice does is off putting to start. Then, we pulled up to the window, and there were three people trying to figure out what we were doing there. No one was capable of answering basic questions, like, when they asked us to "make a big circle around the building because our order would take a minute" how long the wait would be. We went around, and waited. And waited. And waited. Five other cars ordered and were served. We pulled back up to the front of the restaurant and again, they were confused - what were we doing here? And when we sent someone to the window to ask about the food and complained about all the others getting their food, the response was, "So?" Literally, that's what the woman said. They eventually got us something that seemed to resemble our order - but everything was wrong. Like, every. Single. Item. I'm not sure whose food we got. I was just so happy to leave there. I ate something - a hot dog that was half cold (I'm not sure how something can be both cold in the middle and warm on the outside - and my stomach is pretty upset. Just don't eat here. read more

I would like to review this location, but I never got a chance to get any food. I went up to the carryout window while it was raining hard. The guy behind the window looked at me for a second and then averted eye contact. I was standing there with rain pelting me for four minutes with no acknowledgement or any attempt to take my order. He just stood there, doing nothing, like he was in a fugue. It was rather unsettling, him knowing I was there and pretending like I wasn't, and he was waiting for me to get PO'ed and leave. I went thru the drive thru last night at 6:49pm. I ordered a Big Burford and decided to try the Loaded Fries for a total of $11.65. I told him I like my fries and burger fresh and very hot. I got to the window and sat there & watched "Bryan" chatting and joking w other employees and finally picked up my food and brought it to me. He acted annoyed to be bothering w customers. I drove into their lot, parked & opened my bag. I looked at the $5 loaded fries which was about 1/2 cup of soggy fries, no Ranch, was luke warm at best and looked disgusting. There was no attempt to serve a fair portion nor make it look appetizing. Then I took a bite of the burger which had good flavor but again was luke warm! I drove back thru and at the window told "Bryan" that I wanted a replacement because they weren't hot and tried to hand it back. He said he couldn't take it back. He then said the burger was hot as it came off the grill. I replied if that was true why was it luke warm and the cheese not melted?? He just glared at me and said "we don't replace burgers"!! He then handed me a new bag of fries, (which were at least hot which still looked messy but edible.) I then told him to tell the manager to look on Yelp and as I started to drive away, he leaned out the window and yelled nasty comments!! Talk about the rudest, sloppy, worst customer service ever. My opinion, go somewhere else that values your patronage, gives good service and food for your money!! For $11.65 I could've gone to a number of other local restaurants and had good food & polite service!! read more

Yes, it was crowded at the Order Window, and crowded at the Drive-Through, but all in all it went pretty fast. I had been in the mood for a HOT DOG for a long time, and when I got a coupon for a BOGO for a CHILI DOG for this place, I just had to go. Service was friendly and OK, and the food too. Remember, people this is NOT a high dollar restaurant, and the people working in that tiny kitchen deserve a lot of credit. People are so quick to complain, but they forget how cheap their meal is and for the money you pay, it's quite OK. There are tables OUTSIDE and quite a few parking places too. read more
