Stopped in after a round of golf and we're happy they opened at 10am. We had been to the original Mesa location prior but this one is an upgrade. It shares the space with a brewery so you can eat and grab a cold one. We order 2 subs The Kind and Kali Mist. Both we great but the Kali was exceptional with the spicy mayo All the right toppings and super fresh. For drinks, they had Pepsi products. They also have a selection of Kool-Aid, which all the flavors were amazing or like I said, hit up the brewery and get yourself a cold one. It is decorated great, had high tops- low tops and some booths for seating . We loved it. We'll definitely be back.

Jamaican Red (Buffalo Chicken)

I met up with some co-workers for lunch on a Thursday at noon. The parking lot was busy, but the restaurant wasn't too busy. I was 6th or 7th in line, it moved quick. I received my Jamaican Red sub about 15 min after ordering. It was tasty, but could have had more buffalo sauce. We all shared some Pretzel Nuggets, I didn't think I would like them but I did! Good vibes inside! It's clean, there's nice decor, and the employees are friendly. There's plenty of seating! You can sit in a booth, at a table, and at the bar. Yes, there's a bar! I'll definitely be back!

It has been a LONG time since I've been to a Cheba Hut. We always have trouble thinking of nearby places to go for sandwiches, so it's nice to have this option now. One key point; THREE flavors of Kool Aid are available. That brings back memories for me more than anything else. But, don't forget the food! My sandwich (Kali Mist) was excellent as well: fresh produce and bread that was crunchy and toasty. Toppings: roasted turkey breast, bacon, chipotle mayo, jalapeño, avocado, pepper jack, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, Shake & House dressing. The jalapeños are fresh rather than pickled, which gives them a sharpness, crunch and heat to balance the richness of the meats and dressings. We sat on the patio, which was cool in December, but also nice and quieter than the inside. Yes, we'll be back. Wait time was a bit longer than usual, but that is likely because we showed up at a prime time: the place was pretty full and there was a line at the "pick up to go orders" area, too. That's a good sign. Keep it up!

I am a big fan of Cheba Hut and it always hits the spot. I introduced my mom this week and she now has fallen in love. We walked in around 6:30pm on Tuesday and it was fairly busy. Almost all tables were occupied inside and there were some tables available outside. We waited a few minutes to order and the cashier rang us up quick. We ordered: One 8' White Widow with garlic bread One 8' Chronic - no BBQ sauce, garlic bread One 8' G-13 - with garlic bread Two bags of chips One drink Total with tip: $56 We luckily found a table inside and it was clean. One of the workers was stocking up the chips and she kindly handed us our 2 bags. We sat down and waited about 20 minutes for our food which did seem a little too long... The wait wasn't an issue as our food came out hot and was just made. My white widow was toasty and the cheese was gooey. We all very much enjoyed our subs as they were all delicious. There was a worker going around cleaning up tables and also offering to take peoples trash which was nice. The TV's were playing cartoons and the music was gooood. The bar was pretty busy and the pick up area stayed busy with to go orders. We finished eating and as we were about to walk out, we were thanked and told to come back again from the worker who handed us our chips. It was such a small gesture but we felt appreciated. Overall will be back! Glad this location opened up!

Fresh and tasty, Cheba Hut always hits the spot! I love the Griefo sans black olives. I am SO happy that Cheba Hut is now in Gilbert!

French Dip- no veggies

I'm happy to have a new sandwich option in this area, especially one that toasts their creations. It always seems to make them taste better. I had the French Dip and my husband had the Kali Mist - both great sandwiches. They come in 4, 8 or 12" sizes but I found the four inch to be filling enough. It was a bit of a wait for our food but that could be because there seemed to be a lot of people waiting for takeout orders that day. The dining room was also crowded - we sat on the patio- so it's a promising sign that they're doing well. Be aware of the restaurant's overall theme if you plan to take your grandma or little kids. I know we've found a new sandwich option "joint" for our rotation.

White Widow

I love CHeBA Hut! The sandwiches are delicious and the environment is fun. I usually go for The Kana but today I tried the White Widow. The White Widow was pretty good but the bacon seemed like Subway bacon. I will stick to my usual order.

Consistently good. I had the KGB with extra horseradish, and the husband had the chicken avocado sandwich. Bread was perfectly toasted.

Place is really good. Food is good and staff are great. However paying $38 for 2 chicken sandwiches and nothing else should be illegal.

The Vig - Blue Crab Cake

The queso was rich without being too heavy, and the mustard added a nice contrast. For my meal, I had the Caesar salad topped with a bistro steak cooked a perfect medium rare. The romaine was crisp, the garlic-anchovy dressing bold, and the garlic croutons and parmesan tied everything together. The steak was tender, flavorful, and elevated the salad. At the table, we also ordered the cheesesteak with Angus beef, roasted peppers and onions, Havarti cheese, and garlic aioli served on a baguette, with sweet potato fries. The sandwich was hearty and satisfying, and the fries were really good The wagyu burger was another standout--topped bacon, Gruyère and smoky blue cheese, caramelized onions, tomato jam, and garlic aioli on a pub bun. The beef and bacon were fabulous and the fries cooked to perfection Jake, our server, was terrific--attentive, friendly, and helped make the whole experience even better. We finished with the butterscotch bread pudding topped with vanilla gelato and caramel sauce, which was the perfect ending--warm, comforting, and just the right amount of sweetness Overall, a great patio dining experience with flavorful dishes, excellent service, and plenty of variety.

Mason was on point with all aspects of service, he was attentive, welcoming, and really made us feel at home. I was also impressed with the new bartender whose name I didn't catch but it was her first night and I would have never known unless she told me. She was friendly personable and slinging drinks like she'd been there for a while. Great job to both of them! As for the food, it was phenomenal as expected but a special call out needs to be made for the butterscotch bread pudding. It was complementary for my birthday and I probably would have never tried it before but it turned out to be the best bread pudding I've had in ages. So tender and sweet delicious!! 5 stars. Highly recommend!

We came in with our family and three kids and sat on the patio since we were a larger group. After eating, our kids were sitting in chairs near our table, chatting and moving around a bit. They weren't being loud or disruptive, but a nearby a couple clearly seemed upset. The woman was shaking her head and saying to the waitress "this isn't okay to be doing while people are eating", pointing toward our kids. Once I realized this, I immediately called my kids back over and had them sit with us, and I even let her know that if something was bothering her, she could've told us and I would have addressed it right away. The couple chose to ignore us and left shortly after. The manager then came out and reassured us that Lucky Lou's is a family-friendly restaurant and that our kids were absolutely fine. That meant a lot to us and really showed how supportive and understanding the staff is. I also hope one day that couple realizes how hard it is to keep a 4-, 6-, and 8-year-old sitting at a table for more than 30 minutes without shoving an iPad in front of them. On top of that, the service was excellent, the atmosphere was welcoming, and I honestly had the best burger and tater tots of my life. We'll definitely be back--thank you for creating such a kid-friendly and enjoyable place for families!

Of course, this place is known for its cocktails, so naturally they should be great--but trust me, I've been to several cocktail-only establishments that were lackluster. Absolutely NOT the case here. You could literally put all the pages of the menu on a wall, throw a dart, and whatever you hit would be delicious and interesting in its own right. The place is a little small, but honestly, that's what I love about it. It feels cozy in all the right ways. It's also very relaxing, floating along the sea with some delightful surprises here and there. We ordered several drinks, but one that's not on the menu (and they do make it) is the Pearl Diver, which is magnificent here. The mixologists and servers are all amazing and should be proud of themselves for bringing such an experience to Gilbert.

Chrissy especially is an amazing bartender -- my wife and I absolutely love her drinks and she's a huge reason we keep coming back. That's why this feedback is coming from a place of respect. Today there were a large number of children in the bar during the Sunday program. The kids themselves were perfectly well-behaved -- this is NOT a complaint about the children or the parents. But when you're paying $20+ per cocktail in a dark, immersive cocktail experience, it definitely changes the atmosphere a bit when every other table has someone under 12 ordering what I highly doubt is a $20 craft juice box. Even the guests next to us quietly asked the same question we were thinking: is this really the right environment for small children? We were told this is a newer thing corporate is trying, and we totally understand businesses experimenting with ideas and events. But honestly, it feels like this concept works against what makes this place special and unique in the first place. If anything, a dog-friendly patio vibe would feel more aligned with the atmosphere than turning a high-end cocktail bar into a family outing destination. At one point I half expected a bartender to ask if anyone wanted orange slices and apple juice pairings with the smoked cocktails. Again -- we LOVE this place. The drinks are amazing. The bartenders are amazing. The experience is usually incredible. That's exactly why we're saying something. We want this place to keep thriving and keep the unique vibe that made us regulars in the first place.

One important note: I hate beer. I don't even like seltzers you'd get in a can that much. Cocktails and mixed drinks are my go-to. However, I do like ciders and my mom likes meads, which means she thinks I'd like meads as well. Anyway, we arrived around 5 on a Friday and the place was smaller than I expected, and not very crowded at all. There was only one bartender and he wasn't busy when we sat down at the bar, meaning he was very friendly and attentive. I like anything fruity and/or sour, so when I saw the sour gummy candy drink, I knew I had to try a sample. Not surprisingly, it wasn't as amazing as I expected. I then tried a sample of this honey pear cider, and it was a little better than the sour gummy candy drink. My mom ordered a 5 oz of the other flavor we were eyeing: the key lime pie cider. That was the best cider we had tried. The mead flavors all looked intriguing, but I just didn't feel right spending $11 on a drink that I didn't even know if I'd like (since you can't sample meads). If I was feeling more adventurous, I would have gotten the pb&j mead, but I opted for a prickly pear and vodka lemonade. I watched the bartender make it and he poured quite a hefty amount of vodka in the glass. I wasn't complaining one bit (my mom was scared though lol). Upon tasting it, it wasn't the best mixed drink ever, but it was strong and went down easy. Plus, it was a better price than these $16 cocktails you see at all restaurants nowadays. My dad got the moose drool brown ale and I hated it whereas he liked it. It was a nice, clean place with just the perfect temperature air conditioning, and the happy hour time range is honestly amazing if you're like us and prefer to go out early and be home for the rest of the night. Also, sick merch. It was giving Game of Thrones (hence the dragon name haha).

But a friend wanted to meet for food around the area and this spit popped up on Yelp. It didn't disappoint! I was skeptical at first as having a sign posted at the sidewalk and a bouncer outside the stairs going down, was a sheer sign that this isn't such a secret and speakeasy-like spot. But I was proven wrong very quickly. Dre who was the bouncer and I'd much rather call Drayden, is young but friendly. The hall leading down to the entrance was well decorated. It's hard to miss the door when you can hear people on the other side :). Hostess was nice. Alex immediately introduced himself from behind the bar as I sat down, and Meagan was the main bartender this night. They were both a wealth of knowledge when it came to cocktails. I really wasn't expecting too much but the two drinks I ordered were a solid 5/5. I had the silk bandit and the untold legacy. I like sweet drinks this way. It wasn't too sweet. All the flavors were well balanced and well thought out. They also had a girl singing tonight and she was amazing!!! Thanks for a nice relaxing night. Service was a 5/5 and I'd definitely come back if I'm in the area.

This time was checking…read moreout a speakeasy located in the heart of downtown Gilbert on a Friday evening at 9 p.m. I parked for free on the street before making my way to The White Rabbit. There are some things I really love about The White Rabbit and some that I didn't. Ambiance (3/5): When I think of a speakeasy, I think intimate. The White Rabbit is not that. It's pretty large for a speakeasy with a large bar and a good number of tables/booths. They weren't at capacity while I was there, but there were a good number of people there. Which made it pretty loud. To the point where you have to yell at your bartender when ordering your drink so they can hear you. Perhaps a much different experience on a week day. Getting in the speakeasy was both a hit and a miss. If you're subscribed to their email list, as I am, you get a different password every month. I was excited about this. Upon approaching The White Rabbit, I saw a sign naming the establishment and pointing me in the right direction. This takes away from the spirit of speakeasies which are supposed to be truly hidden without any signage identifying the restaurant. You'll see a velvet rope blocking a stairwell where you tell one of the bouncers the password. I had a reservation. If you don't know the password, as another party there didn't, they ask you to access a QR code to find out or ask others who are waiting. I appreciated the dedication to the cause. Once you get in, you walk down the stairwell, and then enter a cool hallway decked out with Prohibition-style decor. That leads you into the main room. The main room is also Prohibition-style though a bit unremarkable. The bathrooms are clean and also feature some cool paintings (and they also hide that they are actual bathrooms). With that being said, when I liked the hallway and the bathrooms better than the bar itself, that's a bit of an issue. Seats at the bar are bar stools without back support. Never fun for my old man back. I did, on the other hand, appreciate that they have free WiFi. Service (3.5/5): The service was generally pretty good, though a bit slow. They start you off with some water without asking you which is always a nice touch. It was just one of those situations where you have to put some effort into getting a bartender's attention on several occasions. Food (N/A): I had dinner prior so no food for me. I did check out the menu. They have a small selection of appetizers, flatbreads, and desserts. Drinks (3/5): When I'm at a speakeasy, I'm looking for creativity and an interesting blend of ingredients and flavors. While The White Rabbit has a good number of cocktails, many of them didn't attract me. Part of it is a matter of personal preference. There were only two drinks out of about 20 that I was interested in. Overall, I wanted a little more, but with that being said, the drinks were reasonably priced for a speakeasy. Not a bad speakeasy by any means, I have super high standards when it comes to these watering holes. Just not in my top five when it comes to speakeasies in Phoenix and surrounding areas.
