We stayed at Hotel Arista, & decided to check out Che Figata. We went to Italy for our honeymoon last year, & I was excited to try it after reading the reviews. We sat in the lounge just before the actual restaurant, so we could watch the football game. Positives: The hostess was great, & I suspect it would have been a different service experience if we would have eaten in the actual restaurant. My husband ordered bolognese & it was delicious. It rivaled anything we ate in Italy. The entire menu seemed to be as authentic as it gets. The food came out very quickly. Downsides: We weren't as impressed with the starter bread as other reviews. Because we sat in the lounge, the bartender was also our server. They have an expansive wine list, but it's very pricey. We asked the bartender for a recommendation. He offered a sample of Riesling after I said that I liked sweet white wines, but never gave a recommendation. We ended up ordering beer instead because we didn't want to spend $14 on a glass of wine without having something to go on. I ordered the paella, which was listed as a house specialty, next to the bolognese. It had a lot of seafood, which was a plus, but it was over spiced/spicy. I love spicy food, but it took away from the overall flavor of the dish. Overall, I would definitely give Che Figata another chance, particularly to see the difference of sitting in the actual restaurant. read more

I really wanted to love Che Figata, but unfortunately, like many of the other reviewers, we had a similar poor experience all around. If the food is outstanding, I can always overlook slow or inattentive service, but when you hardly see your waiter the entire dining experience AND dislike everything you ordered, it's hard to feel anything but ripped off when spending the kind of $$ you will spend at this restaurant. My husband and I received a gift certificate for Christmas and felt very lucky when we found a reservation available the day of on New Year's Eve. We quickly learned why we were so lucky upon arrival... they were seating patrons in the bar/lounge area for dining. Normally, I really wouldn't have minded, but the tables are incredibly uncomfortable to dine at - deep leather chairs that would be lovely for cocktails and maybe a small plate, but not comfortable for expensive dining. I asked the waiter for a recommendation for a small plate and he raved about the scallops. The best part of the dish was the polenta cake that came under the scallops, which was delicious. The scallops themselves were nothing special - simple salt and pepper with a bit of grill to them. Two scallops for $18? Not worth it. For dinner, I was so excited to order the ossobucco and my husband ordered the Ragu Della Domenica. Our dishes were lukewarm at best when they arrived. The ragu was so salty, my husband couldn't even finish it sadly. The irony was that the ossobucco could have used salt - it was bland, pretty greasy, and the marrow bone was so small, the tiny spoon didn't even fit in it besides the very top. We also ordered the duck fat potatoes, which my husband found tasty, but I thought they had an odd consistency to them. We skipped dessert and another drink because we never saw our waiter again (he never even came to check on us after our food was delivered!) Likely not going to give this place another shot - the service is too slow & the price is too steep to be this disappointed in everything we ordered. read more

I never made it to Che Figata. I made a reservation through the restaurant's website for New Year's Eve, and I was really looking forward to visiting the restaurant. The restaurant accepted my reservation for dinner. But then -- two hours before our scheduled dinner time -- the restaurant called and said they could not honor our reservation. We could only have their New Year's package -- not dinner -- despite our reservation. I insisted that I have an email confirmation from them for dinner. It didn't matter. The food is adequate, the prices are high, and the service is terrible. I have been to the restaurant a number of times and noted the incompetence of the help. The only person that was able to explain the menu is the chef. I asked if a soup was vegetarian and the waiter responded that the soup has vegetables in it. You have to laugh about the response, but it's unsettling that this waiter needed to go back to the chef with every menu question. And the "experienced" person at the front desk was no better. On another occasion, I ordered take-out, which they got wrong. They asked me to wait for 20 minutes for them to get it right. Okay, contrast a similar situation I had at Portillo's. Portillo's comped the meal and added an item. Apparently Che Frigata strives to underperform the fast food restaurants on service. read more

My wife and I really wanted to like this new restaurant. Unfortunately it missed the mark on so many levels. The server seemed nice when the bread and dipping sauce was brought to the table. It was very good but after that everything went downhill. The next dish was polenta with Sunday Ragu, which turned out to be meatballs served over bad polenta. When a manager came to the table and asked how was the polenta I said there was no ragu just meatballs. She said it was there take on ragu. REALLY! Meatballs are not Sunday Ragu! We patiently waited 45 minutes for our entrees, which as it turned out were never ordered in the kitchen. Wow how does that happen? Needless to say we will not return. Went back after receiving an invitation from the Executive Chef. I can say we had a wonderful experience. Food, service and atmosphere were excellent. I have been here twice. Each time , I was seated promptly and the server took the time to explain the menu. I've had the Ravioli Che Figata and also the second time , had the Veal Shank . I tried a portion of my date's swordfish too, which was delicious. All of what I ordered was very well cooked and very tasty. Service was friendly and attentive. Restaurant atmosphere is calm and pleasant. Giving 5 stars for all the above plus the staff paid extra attention to my food allergies and took care to make sure I didn't receive any allergens . My husband and I were at Che Figata a few weeks ago and really enjoyed the food and the overall experience. We were given 2 extra appetizers that the chef was trying out and bread with our meal. The waiter, also, was attentive. So, I though it would be a good place to take our dining club. Not so!! We were there last night (August 29, 2020) and had an abysmal experience. I was informed that bread was an extra priced extra item. Our meals came with nothing and portions were so small!! On top of all of this, our waiter was not knowledgeable, aloof and gave me the impression we were bothering him by just being there. Additionally, we waited over 1/2 hour for our check. Overall, we were there about 3 hours - not by choice. I was so embarrassed to bring our dining club and will definitely not return. read more

What an amazing restaurant! The atmosphère is inspiring, the staff is warm and inviting, the menu is creative and beyond delicious. I had the short rib ravioli which had truffle essence and a hearty broth. Every bite was surprising. My boyfriend had the osso bucco which rested atop polenta in a garlic parsley broth (I think) and the portion did not disappoint! The best osso bucco he's had! It's a go-to spot for lunch, apéro, and dinner! There's a plate for everyone's tastes. I wish I lived in the Chicagoland area so I could go again!! read more

Came at noon on a weekend, only one other table is filled and it took 15 minutes for a server to even come and take our order, another 30 minutes to get our appetizer (Which was very tasty) and our appetizer arrived before our drinks! This was our first visit and it won't be our last. The food was the best Italian we have had in a long time, service was great with multiple staff members stepping in. First off, this place is cool. Exhibition kitchen unlike anything I've seen in the 'burbs. Counter with seating surrounds prep area for up close viewing while prosciutto being sliced, etc. Food is distinctive and delicious. Best Roman style pizza I've had outside of Rome! Pasta is homemade, and the sauces are excellent. We ordered 4 apps and entrees and everything was excellent. The kitchen is very strong. Huge wine list, and craft cocktails are a plus. We had read several of the reviews about Che and although many of them were unfavorable we decided to try the restaurant anyway. They recently opened and maybe after some starts and stops, based on the reviews, they seemed to have it all together tonight. The I food was wonderful and the overall service was excellent. Our server, Danielle, was gracious and accommodating. We also met Melissa and the manager, Dave, and we were very impressed with their level of concern, knowledge and service. The prosciutto and fig platter as well as the burata and their pizza were all excellent! Everything tasted very fresh, delicious and was visually lovely. The food was very pricey for the slightly above average quality of the food. What really got to me however was the fact that our meal took almost 3 hours. We saw our server once every 30-45 minutes and this was on a night where the place was maybe 60% full (8pm to 10:45pm on a saturday). At one point not a single other server could locate ours, that lasted 24 minutes. Not a single apology or even visit from the manager to ask how things were going or to find out why there were 8 people at an empty table for 40 minutes. Disrespected, ignored, and given service that is lacking in many ways. Very expensive considering we can go anywhere else for less and get impeccable service. So it saddens me to change my review on this place because the food is good. They never have their special tomato basil cream soup. They say they are packed when clearly the restaurant isn't operating at its full capacity. Comedy at it's finest. Don't bother to make reservations as they lose it and give you a difficult time when you tell them you actually did call to make dinner reservations. We've complained several times to the manager who could care less. So here's the scoop. If your looking for a truly pleasurable dining experience with great top notch service look elsewhere. Ok, whoever said this place is like a nicer Panera totally threw me off. I brought my kids here, but as soon as I stepped in, I realized this was definitely not kid-friendly. They don't have a kids menu - which is not a problem as we can easily do family style - but I felt like the server was trying to get me to spend more than we can eat by misrepresenting the portions. It is not small plates of food. Literally spent over $130 on food for a petite woman, 3 and 6 yo (no alcohol - I had water). I asked the server several times if we were getting too much food, but he kept saying, no, and that he'll bring it out slowly, as if that makes it better somehow. We were full before the last 3 dishes arrived, and they all arrived too slowly. I still gave it 2 stars bc plating/presentation was nice and the food flavors were mostly good. The food temp though was occasionally lukewarm, and I feel like they overengineered some of the dishes. The best authentic Italian food I had in Italy was simpler, fresher, and came out hot (if it was meant to be warm meal). I still like Antico Posto and even Biaggi's better. Ultimately, I'm annoyed that the server mislead us. It could have been a much better experience had he not upsold us. Still tipped him well bc I understand how much they rely on tips but will not be back again with or without kids. Ended up leaving 'early' and had the last 2 dishes boxed untouched bc they were so slow but also bc we were full/fooled into ordering for 2 more imaginary adults. read more

Rather than reserve the next available time at an hour and a half away, we opted to just show up and eat at the bar, something we do a lot...I called ahead to see if that was an option here; sure, they said...on arrival tho we were informed that the "bar" or counter in the actual restaurant was reservation only...the bar they meant was the hotel cocktail lounge adjacent to the restaurant...ok, fine, same menu...but ambience quite different...anyhow, we were seated and brought some bread with a half olive oil/half orange liquid...I asked what it was, and the same guy who seated us just mumbled "dipping sauce" and sauntered away...then came our waiter, who let us know that he was actually the bartender and new here...and tho he was very nice, he didn't know much about the menu...We speak Italian, and were quite familiar with the vocab and the dishes listed in Italian...waitstaff should know meaning and correct pronunciation if you're gonna present on the menu...so our experience may have been different than in the actual restaurant; anyway...the food: decided to go small plates...polpette were quite good, no need for the giardiniara they tossed on the plate tho..got a pizza, what they call Roman style was not like the pizza al taglio u get in Rome; more like a flatbread with lots of cheese...biggest fail was the carciofi...I'm thinking they should pull this from the menu til next spring...tough and stringy, not tender and creamy...barely edible...Nice list of wines organized by region, dunno if they have a somm/wine person tho...was very happy to get the Nebbiolo we ordered at a cool cellarlike temp; prolly my #1 resto pet peeve is warm red wine...happens so much I'm reluctant to order it anymore...so would like to return and see what experience is like in the actual restaurant room...I do appreciate what they're trying to do here and hope they can make it work...a prossima volta... read more

The greeters didn't have their act together: at first they couldn't find our reservation, and then after the 2nd or 3rd try they did. They were going to give us a booth (which are cozy and a bit private), but discovered it was not set so began walking us to a table. I asked to wait for them to set the booth up. Appetizers were amazing and would get any of them again: Polenta Ragu had multiple meats, each was delicious; I'm not a big fan of eggplant but the Parmigiana Di Melazane left me wanting more, especially the pomodoro sauce; and the burrata with sundried tomatoes and more was a great combo, though some of the toasted bread it came with was burnt and when we asked for replacements our server didn't seem to understand our request and never delivered them. Thank goodness for the support staff that came through. Mains were generally very good (Meagre and Scampi) but the veal chop was underwhelming and I wouldn't get that again. Tiramisu was one of the best we've had. Took a long time to get the bill and then longer to pay, even though the restaurant was not crowded on a Saturday night. Still very enjoyable. read more

The food was amazing, but be prepared to be on European time. We waited awhile to be seated despite an open table reservation and the time from our sit down, to our drink order, to the meal, to dessert and then the bill was quite some time. Although the service was a bit slow, everyone was incredibly kind and willingly to help. The interior is very modern and if were with 1 or 2 people, the bar would be the place to be as the kitchen is open and you can watch the chefs at work. If you have the time to spare and relax to eat then this place is definitely for you. The fresh made pasta is remarkable and the cocktails were delicious. Coronavirus couldn't stop us from having an exceptional meal at Che Figata. My little girl was along and she ordered the bucatini with meat sauce from the children's menu. It was a large portion of similar size to what we've been served in our hometown of Los Angeles - but for adults. And it was of the same quality of what the rest of us ordered from the regular menu. Pizza with Italian sausage, brocolini, and asparagus appetizers were fantastic as well. The rest of us ordered the amazing pastas made in-house; one order of pasta/meat sauce, another of pasta/lobster and the coup de gráce, "Ragu Della Domenica" was a panoply of incredible Italian meats complimented by a fantastic short-rib ragu. What a meal! To top it off, the service was above & beyond; Juan was a truly exceptional host who made us feel like family. He explained the wonderful wine list, offered input and displayed the true qualities of a professional host. He knew the menu inside/out, in detail, as if he were also cooking the meal. Ask for him on your next visit! Finally, the atmosphere, even in the midst of everything going on, was festive and welcoming. What a wonderful escape. read more

Extremely slow service for the time we went. Went around 4:00 pm on a Saturday. We were told the main dining room wasn't open, and they had a very limited menu available. We didn't mind that too much and both ordered the burger. Didn't like that you can't choose temperature of the burger. Our waitress literally said "You get what you get". She mentioned the burgers were very thin, which actually wasn't true. Burgers came out medium-well, which is More cooked through than we would like for a thick burger. We waited well over 30 minutes for 2 burgers and soup. Burgers were mediocre at best. They didn't seem to have much seasoning at all. Potato soup was pretty good. Service in general was polite, but very slow. Probably will never go back to experience the whole dinner menu, unfortunately. read more

Went there 3 times in a row because we were at the hotel. Breakfast was ok. But we were sharing and they brought me a very small plate. Than we went for lunch a ordered a salad and it came with a few leaves and loooots of bread. We had an amazing experience here this evening. I can't recall our server's name unfortunately but he was exceptional. So helpful with the wine list as we were going to order a boring Pinot Grigio but he helped us pick an Italian wine and let us taste a couple to help us decide. We really loved the wine he suggested and only hope we can find something similar at Binnys! The Caesar salad was unlike any I've had- more so deconstructed but very tasty. I might get it without the anchovies next time as they included the whole fish.
