We were looking forward to our first dining experience at Sorella by Giada for weeks. What a complete and utter disappointment. First, the positives. The space is beautiful and the homemade pasta station is a nice touch. Also, the knife presentation in advance of my filet mignon was a fun surprise. Unfortunately, that's about it. The negatives far outweighed the rest of it. For an upscale restaurant like this, the wine list was abysmal. Only one Chardonnay (La Crema) to pick from? Ridiculous. My husband ordered the scallops and risotto entree for $50. The waiter told him that it only came with two scallops and offered the additional 2 scallop add-on option. Only when the bill came did we realize that those extra 2 scallops were $32. An $82 scallop and risotto dish at a restaurant in a suburban casino?!! Crazy. The fact that it was also gummy? No thanks. Service didn't come close to matching the menu prices. Wait staff was overly casual and inattentive making us feel like this was definitely not a "special occasion" type place. After paying $240 for a skimpy scallop/risotto, 6 oz. filet, side of potatoes, bottle of La Crema, and a disappointing experience, I can confidently state that it is not worth the hype. This restaurant is new, opening along with the Hollywood Casino in Aurora. With our anniversary coming up, this was a perfect opportunity to check it out. We were not disappointed. Sorella has an impressive yet casual ambiance, and the hostess welcomed us promptly upon arrival. It was a Tuesday night (election night, to be exact), and the place was moderately busy. After a short tour past their fresh pasta station, we were seated. The waiter arrived to explain the menu and take our drink order. After perusing the menu, we ordered the Creamy Cauliflower Soup and Tuscan White Bean Soup as appetizers. For the main course, I ordered the 10-oz. filet mignon topped with Cacio e Pepe Raviolo, with a Potato Lasagna for the side. My wife ordered the Tableside Chicken Parmesan. (In this case, "tableside" means they deliver the fried chicken and add the sauce and cheese in front of you to keep the chicken crispy.) Everything was delicious. My filet on its own was good (not the best steak I've had), but topped with the Cacio e Pepe Raviolo, it was an excellent combination. The service was superb, with the entire staff being friendly, attentive, and helpful. Though the meal was on the higher side of our typical dining experiences, the pricing was reasonable for what we ordered. read more

Such a fun dining experience from the atmosphere to the service and food. We started out with the chicken piccata meatballs and bacon wrapped dates. Steaks were perfect with side mashed potatoes and potatoe lasagne. I got the Cassarecca pasta and added chicken to my dish. The chicken was perfect and had a nice char finish. Only complaint is I wish the paste had more than 4 tomatoes so request more. I shared a bite of my pasta with my family and they all said they would order that next time but very happy with their choice for the evening. We shared the cheeesecake for dessert -in my opinion the best I ever had and Giada's favorite cookies which was lemon and chocolate chip. Fantastic dirty martini and fun glasses. We ordered a full bottle or two of Prisoner Cabernet bottle for $75 was a great pic. In the end I bought a cookbook that was autographed by Giada. We had a lovely dinner here. Large wait staff and kitchen attendants made for quick service. Friendly staff & fun to watch them hand make the pasta. The pasta was very good with light and fresh sauces on all the dishes. Fresh made pasta has a unique al dente structure and they captured it well. The lobster ravioli, spaghetti, filet mignon, Caesar salad, bacon wrapped dates, shrimp appetizer, and the scallop risotto were all fantastic. We had a bottle of wine as well. WAY over priced for the value of the food, we ordered the focaccia bread was flavored with too much lemon and very small portion. One of us order the bean soup which was very salty. We got the caesar salad which was good. The chicken parm but didn't come with pasta and needed salt requested from our waiter twice before getting it. We where right by the pasta station and 5 people stood around and we couldn't get anyones attention when we need help. The fish needed salt and didn't have much flavor. Just wanted to thank the staff at Sorella for an absolutely flawless experience tonight. Set inside the new Hollywood Casino in Aurora, you'd never know it. It has a really cozy and warm atmosphere. Our server Mauricio was fantastic. Extremely knowledgeable and eager to make our first experience memorable. We tried the focaccia and bacon wrapped dates as an appetizer; both were phenomenal! Then we had the petite filet with shrimp and whipped potatoes. The filet was perfectly prepared with a well seasoned crust at exactly the temperature I requested. The shrimp were huge and again, perfect. The potatoes were extremely flavorful; light and fluffy. We came a little later with no reservation but were welcomed by the host staff, and even visited by the GM, Anthony, who wanted to make sure we were happy and loved all our choices. He told us we needed to come back and try the pasta that's made in-house, and we're planning our return visit soon! If you are looking for a new restaurant to try, this one will not disappoint. I was honestly surprised at how good it was considering I'm usually disappointed by restaurants owned by celebrity chefs. But Giada nailed it with this one. Can't wait to return! read more

PROS: Reservation made online, greeted warmly by hostess, thanked by hostess on the way out, friendly waitstaff, Lemon Spaghetti was very good. CONS: Waitress asked my husband and I if we were celebrating anything, and I told her we were celebrating my husband's birthday. I had hoped that a small complimentary desert would have come out, or even a candle in his entree... something. Other than asking about a celebration, nothing was done to acknowledge my husband's birthday, which was a disappointment to me since we were paying for fine dining. Regarding atmosphere, the restaurant is VERY loud. Music playing was fast paced and loud, thus causing diners to shout to each other, which only made the whole thing worse. It was so loud, that my husband and I could not converse across the table. He actually got up and came to sit next to me so we could attempt to have just a little bit of conversation. The appetizer we ordered, Fritto Mistro was dry. Calamari was tough and the shrimp was very dry. The Mediterranean Branzino was a very thin fillet. Thinnest fish filet I have ever seen. I was presented with bunch of raw lettuce and greens on top, in hopes of making it appear to be more than it was. It did not come with a side. Although Lemon Spaghetti was very good, it only had 2 shrimp included and was a bit over priced. Although the restaurant was not busy at all, our food took a very long time to arrive, as did our check. Needless to say, the birthday celebration dinner I planned for my husband, did not go very well at all. The biggest disappointment about this whole meal / experience, was that Sorella did send out an e-mail asking us to take a survey and give feedback. It is now 2 months since I completed that survey, listing all that I listed here. Sorella, having our e-mail address (can't recall if reservation asked for a phone number too), never responded with an apology, kind words to try harder, or even just a thank you for taking the survey. Why ask a diner to take the time to offer feedback, both positive and negative, if you are not going to address any disappointments? Overpriced for what you get and experience. CONCLUSION: Will not be returning. Gave Sorella 2 months to reach out to us before leaving a 1 star review on Yelp. read more

While some hosts would make you feel like you've inconvenienced them by not having a resy, this host stand was the opposite. Eliza was gracious and welcoming. We came a few days after opening night. The service was impeccable, like over the top friendly which I enjoyed. Atmosphere was superb. 3 stars for the food. Their signature dish, lemon spaghetti, was very al dente, dense and wasn't very flavorful. The $10 bread service was a disappoint as well. Focaccia bread is meant to be chewy, airy inside with a crunchy crust. Theirs was just hard: either over cooked or old. Almost every table was ordering it, so maybe it was baked the day before. The crab arancini would have been better if the crab meat was fresh and had more risotto. Our friends who recently dined here told me they had the same impression: felt like an overpriced Olive Garden. While Olive Garden can be enjoyable, we didn't think the food justified the fine-dining price point or 4-5 star reputation. read more

One recommendation is to put better wine on the menu. The Pinot Grigio was very expensive wine and was not a good quality. I highly recommend they add a better quality wine at a reasonable price. The inside decoration and layout are tasteful and impressive for a Casino restaurant, the food on the other hand is very sub par. We were a party of four for a business dinner. We ordered the Calamari ($22), the focaccia bread ($10) and the Bacon wrapped dates ($17) as appetizers. The Calamari is a very small portion, over cooked and flavorless, the bread is rock hard, very dry and tastes like nothing (terrible don't order this) and the bacon wrapped dates on the other hand were exceptional and delicious. ' For the main course, we ordered Tortellini ($30), Cannelloni ($35), Chicken Parmesan ($36) and Salamon ($39). The Tortellini were six pieces total. Yes, they were a little larger than traditional tortellini and arranged in a circle on the plate, but 6 and their use of garlic ruined the dish. The Cannelloni was a decent portion but again lacked flavor and we left most of it there, not worthy to bring back. The chicken Parmesan made us laugh out loud because they boast that it is served "table side"...so what do you get? An over fried piece of hard chicken and another server comes with a very small frying pan and ladles half of its content of tomato sauce and cheese over the overcooked chicken...we actually laughed it was so ridiculous and terrible for what you get (as much as it pains us to write this - places like - dare we write this - Olive Garden Chicken parm is much better and we dont even eat there). The Salmon was served over a bed of rice that was actually tasty, but it was ordered "blackened" and they said they forgot. We ended the evening ordering the Cookies ($14) you get two lemon and two chocolate chip, they are OK, but nothing to write home about. With drinks almost all of them (wine or mixed) were $18 each. The total tab for the four of us with drinks and tip was $370. Our recommendation - go anywhere else. They are overpriced, the food is just OK at best, and their prices are over the top. read more

- Terrible Management the bafflingly poor customer service and management we experienced at Sorelle on a Thursday night completely warranted it. We stopped in around 8:00 PM looking to wrap up our evening with some dessert. Walking in, the restaurant was far from full. They had plenty of open, unreserved tables available, and at least half of the bar area was completely empty. Despite having more than enough capacity to accommodate us, we were told by the staff that we couldn't be seated for dessert. When the manager got involved, the situation didn't get any better. Instead of trying to accommodate paying customers in a half-empty restaurant, the manager was completely rigid and dismissive. Turning away business when you have wide-open tables and an empty bar makes zero operational sense, A restaurant's management sets the tone for the entire establishment, and the management here is failing.
