Now let me keep it honest with you because you know I'm a REAL one....in the pictures, the empanadas look a lot bigger than what they are in person. But with that said, if you have the urge to put up a couple extra dollars, this experience is WORTH it. Every. Single. Penny. The Knish....a Jewish-Argentinian classic with homemade potato and caramelized onion wrapped in flaky dough....MELTS in your mouth. I'm telling you, it's worth the drive alone. Scrumptious doesn't even begin to cover it. And the sweets? The Cubana....guava and cream cheese pastry....is luscious, buttery, and hits that perfect sweet spot. Che Empanadas is located inside Transfer Co. Food Hall on the southern edge of downtown Raleigh. Coming from North Raleigh, it's a bit of a trek, but Transfer Co. has become a regular destination for us despite the drive. Parking can usually be found outside, but on the Sunday morning we visited, the lot and nearby street spaces were full. I circled back to Chavis Way, where parking is more reliable, and from there a short trail leads straight into the food hall. There was no line, and our order was taken promptly. We started with: Bacon, Egg & Cheese Empanada Sausage, Egg & Cheese Empanada At $9.20 + tax and tip for two, it was a light but flavorful start. The empanadas were so good that we each went back for another round, bringing the total to $18.40 + taxes and tip for two empanadas each which was plenty of food for breakfast. The empanadas themselves were excellent: flaky crusts, generous fillings, and thoughtful seasoning. Both flavors were outstanding, and in past visits we've had the same experience with other varieties. Seating was plentiful inside the hall, and water is available in the center. Servie is prompt and friendly. In my opinion, these are the best empanadas in the triangle, and maybe the best we've ever had. Highly recommended. read more

This place is one of many stalls within a building. The ambiance of the entire place was hip, trendy, lively on a Sunday noon. Ordered 5 kinds of empanadas to go: carne, Jamon y queso (ham and cheese), kale and mushroom, pollo (chicken) and Al limon (with lemon). You can pick to get chimichurri or habanero sauce, I got the former. When we opened the box, there was no way to tell which one was made with pork, red meat, chicken or the Empachori. They can do better. This is not a smart way to pack to go items. As a result, we had to open them to distinguish them. Some of us rather not have meat but chicken or pork. The cashier opened the boxes and checked the order. I had 3 vegan empanadas. Vegan Beef, Kale and Mushroom, and Potato Knish. The pastry was good on all of these. Vegan Beef had the most flavorful filling, and I actually really liked the Potato Knish (very fluffy, tasty potatoes). The Kale and Mushroom was fine, though nothing to write home about. None of these were spicy. I was not crazy about the chimichurri sauce. The problem here is that these empanadas are fairly small, and all 3 + some chimichurri sauce put me over $15 (no drink). For $15 I feel like I should walk out of any street food-type restaurant feeling full, preferably with some leftovers. Oh well. I probably would not eat here again, but the food wasn't bad. I actually decided to work from home at transfer co food hall today and decided to try food from almost all the vendors and knew instantly I had to leave a review for Che Empanadas. Over everything I ate from every place they stole the show! Probably some of the best, if not the best, empanadas I ever had. Each empanada was hot, flavorful, completely filled, and soooooooo satisfying I felt like I could've tried all of them (& I will when I'm back). There are so many options to choose from you'll probably get overwhelmed. They have a breakfast one, shrimp one, various chicken and beef options, as well as non-meat options like spinach, cheese, guava, etc. I thought I knew what I wanted until I saw ANOTHER menu of even more combinations written on a chalkboard. I ended up getting a chicken, shrimp, brisket, and two different beef empanadas with cheese and onions inside. These empanadas were so cheesy it was just melting in my mouth. Get the Empachori empanada! So delicious!! I have been in Raleigh for a few days and I have already eaten here 3 times. When we got to the hotel for my son's baseball tournament, I looked for restaurants near me and luckily Che Empanadas popped up 10 minutes away. I'm Argentinian so I obviously ignored all other restaurants and drove there. It's in a dining hall (Transfer Co. Food Hall) which is cool and the ambiance is hip and fun but it's not obvious when you drive up there that it's in there. Coincidentally this has happened to me before with an empanada place in San Diego. It's a cool place and great if you're going with people who aren't sure they like Argentinian empanadas, they can find something elsewhere...until they try yours and want their own. The first time we went, my son had the brisket empanada and I had humita (corn) and ham and cheese. They were good but Argentine cuisine is not spicy and the ham and cheese one was a tiny bit spicy so I didn't finish it. While we were eating I saw the Empachori special empanada on a charlkboard display. Argentine chorizo is unlike any other and choripán (the chorizo [sausage] in crusty bread with chimichurri) is a classic. I have never seen anyone make an empanada with Argentine chorizo so I had to try it. My son and I split it due being almost full. It was AMAZING. The cheese and grilled onions and chimichurri flavor combination with the chorizo is one of the best things I've eaten. It is what made me come back 2 other times during our trip. My son loved the brisket one too, he got one of each on our subsequent trips, I got 2 Empachori. I will say that the second time we went it was a little less juicy than the 1st and 3rd time, but still good. We also got the Pastelitos de Dulce de leche each time (warm pastry with delicious dulce de leche and walnuts inside), highly recommend. 2 empanadas and 1 of those should fill any stomach to capacity. The service is great too. If we are ever back in Raleigh we will definitely be back to this spot. **also I'm guessing that they have to make their own Argentine chorizo because it's not just something you can find in a store, so props to them for doing a great job with it. This food hall stand sells empanadas. It is small, but has a very impressive selection. I managed to order three vegan empanadas, and there were several more vegetarian ones. My to-go container was brought to me as I waited at another establishment. I bought them because I figured they'd be good to reheat later. Is a vegan empanada delicious enough to warrant spending food hall money? You bet it is. I couldn't decide which one is my favorite. The lentil and sweet potato was immensely satisfying, but my quinoa with a hefty dose of garlic and herbs was savory and delicious. If you are at a pop up event in the community, I'd think you would strive to be helpful, kind, and demonstrate the culture and approach of the company. I am big on customer service AND also give people the benefit of the doubt; yet this gentleman was truly abrasive and condescending. I gave a two and not a one because the empanadas were tasty; though, not necessarily any better than any other empanada place I have tried and not necessarily worth $4+ per empanada. I have only been to the duraleigh location beside sharkys, but this is my favorite place in Raleigh hands down even with all the great barbecue here. The empachori took me right back to when my family visited Argentina when I was 12. If you're visiting Transfer Co. Food Hall you've got a bunch of good food options but one of my favorites is Che Empanadas! Formerly a food truck, Che Empanadas specializes in Argentinian empanadas and do a delicious job of it. Typically they have a choice of 6 to 8 empanada flavors along with some sweets (alfajores). I've tried their beef, spinach-cheese, ham-cheese, caprese (cheese tomato) and more. What's cool is the empanadas come in some very different shapes and usually have a letter marking on the pinched crust to identify the flavor. Che Empanadas does a super tender crust that still holds up to the filling inside. Service is pretty quick since they usually have some warmed up and ready to go. My only nit to pick is around the prices for some of the sauces. $2 for a small cup of chimichurri seems steep and the cup is so small you can't even dip your empanada in it. But otherwise I've always enjoyed my meals at Che Empanadas. Vive la empanada revolucion! read more

Another reviewer mentioned no way to tell which was which, but the empanadas are stamped with initials at the top; you just have to look.
