We arrived a little after our 8pm reservation and we were still seated right away. First, Sarah was our server! She was very sweet and knowledgeable. For my drink, I ordered a Lemon Drop martini. It was so good, I ordered a second round. For my starter, I ordered the CHOPPED SALAD. It was very fresh and tasty. For dinner, I had the SNAPPER HEMINGWAY. It was Parmesan encrusted with lump crab and it was delicious . Instead of the potato garlic mashed, I opted for French fries. For dessert, we shared the HOT CHOCOLATE LAVA CAKE. It was to die for! It also came with vanilla ice cream. Keep in mind, it takes about 30 minutes to prepare, so consider ordering when you put in your appetizers or drink request. Lastly, We were the last to leave the restaurant after 10pm and they were not rushing us out or making us feel unwanted. I will definitely be back this spring. The location and view is amazing! Went to this restaurant with my Fiancée for Valentines Day. The ambiance is always dim and set for a nice evening dinner. We were greeted immediately and sat according to our reservation time. My Parents and Godparents recently celebrated my Mom's 81st birthday. As is understandable, my four 80+ elders were running a little late (15 minutes) for their 4:30 pm reservation. As the restaurant was super busy, they could not accomodate their late arrival. I immediately reached out to the restaurant and luckily a cancellation came in. The Assistant Manager, Akeem, was so pleasant, understanding and helpful. My family said that another Manager kept checking in on them the whole dinner and made them feel very special (sorry I don't have his name, but they loved him!) I was able to arrange a gift card and it paid for all but .74 cents. That same Manager came over and said, the rest is on me and pulled out a dollar. They got the biggest kick out of that! My husband and I came here to celebrate our one year anniversary. We made our reservation for 5:30pm and we were seated promptly at a table near the windows. We had a perfect view of the sunset, and the ambience was perfect. We ordered the prime rib, scallops and shrimp, and the oysters to start! Food was delicious. We also tried a couple cocktails, and the "butterfly effect" was both beautify presented and the perfect amount of tart!! Supposedly the big wigs for the restaurant were in town so I guess everyone was frazzled. We were seated and were greeted by the only good part of the night for me, our waitress Teaa. Teaa was phenomenal and really did her best. Now on to the rest. We were seated in the larger party room which offers limited view of the water. For starters I ordered the Caesar salad which was actually pretty good. The salsa at the bottom of the Parmesan crisps offered a pleasant taste. Now onto the bad. The 32 ounce "SUPER COLD" porterhouse left much to be desired. I was thoroughly underwhelmed and highly disappointed. The steak lacked seasoning, taste, you name it. From the hosts at the front who welcomed us and got us seated quickly, to the water taxi we took from our hotel, the views and service made my night! The servers were so kind and efficient and knew to start us with drinks, which came out quickly. We had a set menu and started with a chopped salad which was fine, and good bread choices with whipped butter. I chose the prime rib over the chicken or stuffed shrimp. The shrimp looked really good with at least 6 shrimp and the folks that ordered gave rave reviews. The prime rib came out cooked medium rare like I requested, with all the traditional fixings - horseradish/sour cream sauce and au jus. It was very good! We had sorbet for dessert and it was ok. Why? Appetizers arrived, server runs off... ended up eating unseasoned food rather than waiting for it to get cold. Completely weak and unnecessary. They've added sushi, fine. The menu has somehow expanded but there's LESS anyone would want to eat on it. If you want bone marrow, there's 5 different dishes featuring it... about 5 dishes with truffles... several ways to have Escargot. But Maryland crab... in Annapolis friggin ' Maryland? You can have a crab cake... and that's it. Scallops? One single entree. The steaks are now "Ruth's Chris style" meaning expensive and come with no sides. But let's talk about sides... no option for a baked potato. Seriously. But I can get an array of crap I don't want... truffle fries... and if you ask they'll make you some regular mashed potatoes (but it's not on the menu). All of these restaurants now have "chefs" that believe we need every type of goofy protein, odd vegetable, and frou-frou cooking technique for the food to be any good. All of it is just annoying. Maybe put a little into service or anticipating the needs of the patrons and a little less on breaking your arm to pat yourself on the back for introducing "elevated" overpriced cuisine that is not very satisfying and presents a pretty damned bad value for the money. Notice how they gave me a small condiment dish with nothing in it.. This is a great location for a date night or just a family night out. The front of the house service team did an outstanding job. The food not only looked appealing but it also tasted great. As someone who works in a fine dining kitchen I was super impressed with the food and service. It is not often that I find a place that my wife and I enjoy eating at. Had the mahi- pretty plain, the mashed potatoes were good Prime rib was tasty and a nice portion Coconut shrimp were good. Came with three sauces. Didn't really think any of the sauces paired well with the shrimp. The coconut cream sauce was confusing (tasted similar to the glaze that's on cinnamon rolls) and was my least fav of the sauces. My sweet Hubby surprised me for a quick 2-day hop to Annapolis, for my birthday. He knows how much I love the Chart House, when I lived in CA, many great dinners, celebrations, happy hour drinks, were had at the Redondo Beach Chart House, 30+ years. So I was thrilled that Hubby had made reservations for a late Sunday dinner here at the Annapolis location. We had a beautiful table looking over the harbor and besides another couple and large party at the other side of the restaurant, we were the only ones there. It was very romantic and allowed my Hubby and I to enjoy time together. First things first- I ordered my chocolate lave cake! you are asking -- " but why?" because it takes 30-minutes to bake and if this is your choice for dessert, always order it first, before anything else. We started off with an appetizer, the jumbo lump crab cake- now this has a "MP",(market price) and it's for only 1 crab cake (so make sure read that). I have to say, for the price and size, it should have been two cakes. My Hubby, really wanted me to try a famous Maryland crab cake, so I took "A" bite, but I was totally underwhelmed, It was -ok, not spectacular, but ok. He had the other 2 bites, because literally as an appetizer, its meant for 1 person, 2 people is really a stretch. Hubby ordered the Indian Summer Shrimp and Scallops, he really enjoyed it, it had 6 large shrimp but the scallops seemed small, he liked the rice and grilled asparagus. I was disappointed in the service for how expensive it was. We got there at our reservation time and were seated and the waiter came over right away and my husband asked about a beer choice and he said he would look into it and come back , but 25 minutes went by. My husband went to the manager and didn't say anything bad about the waiter, but said we wanted to change tables. The new table also had the same waiter, but I think since we requested the move, he became more attentive somewhat. There definitely continued to be things with the service that were not top notch (forgetting other things). View was amazing, food was really good but our service didn't rise to the level of the caliber of the restaurant or the experience I wanted for my husband's birthday. We ordered a dozen oysters, crap dip, and calamari to start with. After having to ask for the food to be heated up, and the oysters tasting like drywall, we just got the check and left. The restaurant is a good size and a small parking lot is available a few steps from the entrance. It wasn't a busy day and it felt like our food took awhile to arrive. Everything came out as expected. We were satisfied with our meals. The presentation was great. The calamari had a good portion of additional tempura vegetables. The crab, avocado, and mango stack was hearty with crab meat but needed a dash of seasoning. I enjoyed my Maryland cream of crab soup. The salmon dish was doing to much but not enough. I liked the sweetness from the sauce but I would have preferred the salmon cooked differently and the prosciutto served different as well. The signature hot chocolate lava cake was amazing! My young adult daughter also bought one (her 1st experience and will likely be her last) Neither of us could register online (with receipts). We went there early June for her birthday and tried using the membership for discount. Manager on duty said he didn't recognize the card and that the restaurant investigates fraud. We were flabbergasted and in disbelief! My daughter tried showing him photos of the meals from Restaurant Week to legitimize our purchase. Manager later researched and found our receipts. He said he would email us info so we can register again. More than a month has gone past, nothing came in, so money down the drain. We paid over $200 for your meals that night. Never going back. But, if you want a good steak dinner this is not it. Go to one of the steak restaurants in the area. Crab cake is disappointing especially in comparison to the other restaurants in the area. Chart House is definitely just an average food experience that has good ambiance. Right on the water of Annapolis, the front of the restaurant is entirely floor to ceiling windows which gives a great view of the water. The menu is pricey, but their happy hour menu offered weekdays from 4:30-7 is an amazing deal so we decided to check it out! Pro tip: Fridays at 4:15, a line starts forming for happy hour and by 5 PM the happy hour section (first come first served: the bar, lounge seating next to the bar, and about 6 select tables in the dining room) were filled. So make sure to get here early! The happy hour menu offers many small dishes at varying prices from about $4-10, select $7 cocktails, wine glasses from $6-8, select draft beers for $4.25, and well drinks for $5 (not bad!) We tried the burger sliders, spinach dip, and firecracker shrimp. The best were the sliders, the other two dishes seemed like they came out of a microwave, which was surprising because they took quite a long time to come out (probably like 20-25 minutes!) Although they were busy from the happy hour mad dash, I was pretty surprised that small plates would take that long to come out. For drinks, we tried the Fleur de Lis (a pineapple cocktail), a few mango mojitos, a few Shocktop drafts, and espresso martinis (not on the HH menu). I would say the cocktails are definitely better than the food--although the HH speciality cocktails were not very strong, they were tasty. In total, the bill came out to $95 for the three small plates, and 4 rounds of drinks for two people which was not bad. After drinks, you can take the water taxi to downtown Annapolis which was a fun way to get there! It is $4 per person. Overall, you're definitely paying for the ambiance at Chart House, but in my opinion ambiance alone doesn't make up for expensive food. I would come back for the great happy hour deals, but I don't think the prices are worth it for dinner service. read more
