I made a reservation for my best friend's bday 4 days prior. When we arrived on a Monday, we were greeted by the hosts and were checked in immediately. We waited for a couple of minutes before being sat down and then given a bday card. We sat on a corner of the restaurant to the windows where you can see the ocean. I don't always enjoy corner areas, but with the sea otters out and about, I really couldn't have picked a better spot- probably the best place to be! The service was excellent, and our waitress always checked up on us at appropriate times and always refilled our water. For food, we both shared the coconut shrimp while I got the King Salmon and cucumber martini, and she got the spiced ahi and pomegranate martini. The drinks were strong yet had lots of flavor. I usually never get drinks that are this strong compared to other places, but this one really impressed me. The coconut shrimp was delicious, and the sauces that came with it were very addicting- the sweet white coconut sauce was the best. I also ended up eating a lot of the garnish rice crisps that were below the shrimp. We weren't informed when we sat down, but there was also a salad bar with your typical salad ingredients. It was a great second appetizer. The king salmon was cooked just right for me. Not too soft but not too tough as the salmon melts in your mouth. My partner (and I) enjoyed the spiced ahi. A bit cooked on the outside and raw on the inside, it went perfectly with the sauce that was around the plate. Lastly, we had a slice of vanilla ice cream cake with a chocolate crust. It was so good. We had reservations for over 14 people and were warmly greeted by the concierge, who seated us and took our orders promptly. Towards the end of the meal, the manager kept checking on us, especially since we had toddlers and young kids with us . However, we were unaware that there was another large party coming in to take over our table until the manager mentioned it. My husband felt rushed , especially since everyone was still enjoying their drinks . In the end, he decided it was best to ignore the pressure and simply give the restaurant less-than-favorable feedback and a minimal tip , considering we ordered an extravagant meal and drinks from the menu. Wow -- Charthouse completely blew me away the past few times my family and I have gone for dinner! The view alone is worth the visit, but the food and service have made the whole experience amazing every time, it's really an elevated fine dining restaurant compared to the Charthouse I used to go to in Marina Del Rey, years ago. Our server, Eric, was super friendly and checked in just the right amount. And our server we've had in the past, Barayan, made sure we were doing well. He even remembered our daughter's name, what a special place and person. I ordered the lamb chops and it was perfect -- fresh, flavorful, and beautifully plated. My husband got the prime rib and said it was one of the best they've had. We ended the night with dessert and honestly, I'm still thinking about it. My favorite was the refreshing beet salad, though the ration of beets to pesto to crisp could be improved. Same with the chicken and waffles, only one piece of fried chicken to four quarters of a waffle. And somehow there was a fried egg. Definitely not traditional. The kimchee calamari was packed with creamy salty flavors and dipping the pieces into the coconut sauce of the coconut shrimp was so tasteful, a glorious sweet coating that balanced out the umami. I'm a bit torn on the review yet I feel honesty is the best policy. They first tried to put us at a window seat which overlooks the ocean and simply stunning views. However they clearly added several tables to accommodate the Valentine Day weekend. It had zero room for our legs and we were back to back of other dinners. Somewhat reminiscent of peanut Thai sauce. Here is where it gets a bit funky. We had finished our appetizer and our trip to the salad bar. Mind you we had asked the waiter since we had the salad bar and appetizer to space our meal out for us. We are waiting and to the point I needed to go add time to the parking meter (we had 1:40 on meter) at the point we are thinking our meal may arrive our waiter approaches the table and says he believes he has lost our ticket and asked us our order again, he comes back after a bit and seems to have found it. We aren't overly concerned until we wait even longer a good 30 minutes before our meals arrive. We were perplexed but not perturbed. Our meals arrive and it's clear they are putting food out quickly for the holiday and have cut menu a bit as well our food was clearly not delivered fresh. The steak was warm and the mashed potatoes cold. The shrimp was warm yet way over cooked and the rice was cold. So I cannot say it honestly was our best experience on our seven year anniversary/Valentine's Day meal. I went in today at 6pm as a group of two and it was spectacular. The food came coursed out at just the perfect time. The new manager Kerrie always goes to every table and pays special attention to each one. She loves to make sure we are all always doing well. The prime rib was cooked to perfection and was incredibly juicy and the executive chef himself, Juan, delivered our entrees. The restaurant has such an intimate feel and I love coming here so often. DON'T ORDER THE KING CRAB LEGS. Not worth the price at the Chart House. This time (6/22/26) we felt completely ripped off that we were charged $107.00 for a one pound crab leg dinner because: 1. The price was not listed on the menu (we should have asked) 2. The waiter did not mention the price (The waiter should've mentioned the price since it was not on the menu) 3. When I received the plate of crab legs, there was barely any meat on the crab legs, mainly shell. The previous time we had gone there, the crab legs were served whole so you can crack them open yourself. This time the legs were all cut in half and there was barely any meat inside. 4. Three months ago we had ordered the same dinner and ended up with large larger crab legs, served whole so that they could be cracked with the tools to take out large chunks of meat.. I am a native to the peninsula, but I have never been here before. I decided to take my twin girls for their 18th birthday dinner and finally give it a try. Although the ambiance of the restaurant is beautiful, we were not happy with the food by any means. I ordered the prime rib, and the last prime rib I ordered from the casual BJ's restaurant chain had more flavor than this very pricey cut. I chose the salad bar, but I was not given any direction from our server on where plates were or anything else about it. Although I loved the views, we would never go again. Booked a reservation here for valentines and was excited after looking at the website and seeing there it was a nuce steakhouse with oceanside views. However upon arriving for the 8:45 reservation we had to wait 25 mins for our table after checking in, another 10-15 to be given bread and water, and our server said he was covering for someone else who was on break (which is fine i get it was valentines and they were busy). But we still didn't get our order taken for another 15 mins after that, and when we did get our food the medium rare steak was still far undercooked. On top of all that the whole time we were in a dark spot of the restaurant in between 2 other tables with little to no room. Our server (who came back from break) was a very nice guy and i could tell was doing his best but kept exacerbating he was sorry about everything going on. Im not from the Monterey Area but took my girlfriend out there for Valentines day weekend, suffice to say I would've saved a lot of time and money had i just gone down the street to El Torito and definitely had a better experience. Visited for Valentine's day weekend. I ordered a cup of the clam chowder and the lemon crusted Salmon. My partner ordered the seafood pasta. The clam chowder was amazing, it def needed some hot sauce and I wish they had the little oyster crackers for that crunch. My salmon was also very tasty and served with mashed potatoes. The plate was a little barre and I wish it was served with some vegetables or a choice of another side. My partner did not enjoy the seafood pasta, there was no sauce and no meat from the clams or lobster tail. Very dry pasta lacking flavor. Our server was very attentive and friendly. Overall 4/10. Honest review here... have been wanting to try for a while and from the minute I entered things just were not up to par. We came in at 3:30pm and only two other tables occupied in the entire restaurant. Service was slow but the waiter was nice. Had to ask for a clean water glass since one of ours had hood stuck to it and my seat also had dried food on it. My husband got the clam chowder- ok flavor but super watery. Not even close to chowder. I had the salad bar which was good but not great. Our main course came- my husband got the salmon with crab on top with mango sticky rice. He said it was "meh". No real flavor, not horrible but for the price not worth it. I had the mama lucci shrimp linguine. The shrimp were good, the linguine had no flavor. Even though there was some type of pesto on it, there was literally no flavor so I squeezed 2 lemons on it to give it something! Our total bill before tip was $152, no alcohol, just iced tea. And I remember I had the same reaction when I went to their Redondo Beach location years ago. The restaurant sturdily stands on water and we can see the moving ocean water straight from where we were seated (see photos). With just glass windows separating us from the water, we felt like dining outdoors. We had the best Lobster Bisque for starters and some oysters, then ribeye and salmon. First off, I hate writing bad reviews, but this I can't let go. I was extremely disappointed. My husband and I decided to come here after visiting a Chart House near Alexandria for our anniversary. We had a lovely time then, so why not experience that magic again? I was sorely mistaken and will not be returning. Food wasn't good, and the service was even worse. We were celebrating my husband's birthday, and indicated so on the reservation. The place was quite busy for a Monday evening. We were seated away from the windows, which wasn't ideal but it was fine. We're sitting for a while before our server finally comes up and says "We're really busy tonight, I'll be with you when I can", and rushes off. No "how are you this evening?" or "are we celebrating tonight? Happy birthday!". Just a hey, I'm busy. When he comes back he rushes us for our order, which I guess was fine because we were sitting there for so long anyway, but still doesn't feel good to be rushed. We put our order in of a filet mignon for my husband and a NY strip for me, along with two cocktails. I have an allergy to alliums (onions and garlic), so I had to order asparagus instead of the garlic mashed potatoes. When I ask about this substitution, our server says "yeah the kitchen can just grill the asparagus or something. Won't be as good". Another reminder how my allergy denies me good food, thanks for that. We wait for what seemed like an eternity for our food. When it finally arrived, they didn't provide me with a knife. I sat for over 10 minutes staring at my food while we desperately tried to get anyone's attention. Our server finally comes over when we motion towards him and ask for the cutlery, and then tells me, "there's your steak. We normally put all the butter and good stuff on it, but yours is plain." And laughs and walks away. Once again I feel shame for having an allergy. And speaking of plain, yeah, that's exactly how my food was. There wasn't any seasoning on the steak or the asparagus. I know you can't put garlic on it, but you could've put regular butter or at least some salt! It was also cold by the time I had gotten my knife. :( Last hope was dessert. We ordered the lava cake when we ordered our meal, so we were thinking it wouldn't be too bad of a wait, but again, we were sitting with nothing. The table next to ours ordered a lava cake after their meal, and still received it before us! When we got the cake we were also given our check. No "sorry about the wait times" or "thank you for celebrating with us". Nothing. Just put it on the table with our dessert and said "whenever you're ready". We paid a pretty penny for a nice dinner for my husband, and it was anything but nice. I am so saddened and disappointed by our experience. We were an afterthought, and it clearly showed. I have never been to any Chart House Restaurant, so when opportunity came for this vacation in Monterey, we decided to get a reservation and go. We went on May 24th and had a 7:30pm reservation. I ordered the filet mignon, and my husband had the halibut. I also ordered a Caesar Salad, and my husband ordered an appetizer of the whipped ricotta and meatballs. Our food and drinks were average/okay, our server was fine, we didn't have a great view of the ocean. great food, great view, good service, but pricy. came in a group of 8 for dinner on a Wednesday evening. the place is popular and filled throughout the meal. waiter was attentive, however, he (or the bartender) couldn't get our mango mojitos order correct. 3 of us ordered virgin mango mojitos, 1 was regular (w/ alcohol) mango mojitos. all drink came and none of them had alcohol in it, 2 of them had a hint of yellow where as other 2 were yellow (mango syrup). the waiter tried to replace the regular mango mojitos, still couldn't taste the alcohol. ended up getting a shot glass so hubby can add it in himself. clam chowder was very tasty. my sea bass & lobster risotto was really flavorful. our party also had prime ribs, seared ahi appetizer, mango/shrimp/avocado tower. all were very satisfying. price was at the higher end, a definite $$$. read more

I took my mother out for Christmas this year as opposed to cooking dinner as we usually would. The facility is nice but was very crowded. All staff were very attentive and nice. The problem was the food... I ordered the prime rib, lobster bisque, and chef dessert. My mom ordered the surf and turf sirloin, lobster bisque, and lava cake. The prime rib I asked for medium rare, half of it was raw. Sent it back and it came back and they quickly brought me a new slice more medium rare. The problem was no seasoning. The horseradish was mixed with mayo and heavy mayo. The mashed potatoes on both plates were also not seasoned and bland. The lobster bisque which did incorporate little bits of lobster was heavy tomato taste and lacked lobster flavor. The lava cake was dry and no internal chocolate lava. The chef dessert was key lime pie and not that great. Certainly not the best key lime pie I have ever had. The bread was just basic and nothing I think would be like great bread. The kale butternut squash salad I got was really good. My mom's steak was seasoned well and cooked well but nothing special. Neither of us ate all our food because it just was not very good. I would not go back again for the cost of the dinner, and all the above mentioned , but worst of all, all day today I have had stomach cramps and diarrhea. Not sure if there is a correlation but I am gonna have to say I only made a simple breakfast that day and did not eat lunch in order to be prepared for a huge meal for dinner. This is our go-to place whenever we visit Monterey. My whole family LOVES Chart House. Sadly, today the service was awful. We ordered salad bar and as soon as we came back, the calamari appetizer was already on the table. It was cold--- less than room temperature. It tasted old. The main course came out only 15 minutes after our appetizer and we were now feeling rushed. We had all ordered steak, they came without steak knives and no waiters were in sight. We waited and finally I did not want our steaks to get cold. I had to get up and ask for steak knives. Now we were ignored - no one came to ask even once if we needed anything or how things were going. I had to ask for salt and ketchup, by waiting and waiting to get sight of a waiter and flag someone down. Our waitress did not appear at all, till dessert. We had pre-ordered the chocolate lava cake and I stressed I wanted my ice cream on the side, on a separate plate - this is very important to me. It's their signature dessert and ice cream on top ruins the warm liquid chocolate. Plus I can't eat dessert a lot and this was a treat. She served it with ice cream on the top. When I asked for a separate plate for the ice cream, she bought additional ice cream instead - only like a tablespoon of it, and half melted. I might sound snobby but I rarely eat a meal over $300 with my family and when once in a while I do, I expect good attentive service. I expect to sit a bit and enjoy the view and have a special time with my family. My dad even mentioned the rushed food and lack of service. 2 Stars - Disappointing First Visit, Especially for Mother's Day We chose Chart House Monterey for our first visit on Mother's Day, hoping for a special experience with good food and an ocean view. Unfortunately, it missed the mark in several ways. We had a 12:45 p.m. reservation but weren't seated until 1:05, even as other parties who checked in after us were seated before us. From the start, the service felt disorganized and slow -- possibly due to being understaffed or overbooked. That theme continued throughout the meal. Several tables that were seated and ordered after us received their food first. My husband ordered the NY strip steak with mushroom Merlot sauce -- but it came with no sauce. When we asked the manager, she claimed it was just a butter sauce, which may be standard on the regular menu but wasn't what was listed for the prix fixe. There wasn't a mushroom in sight. We ordered a kid's meal that was supposed to come with milk -- it never came. When we asked, our server didn't seem to know it was included. We also didn't receive bread until we asked for it. We specifically picked this location for the beachside view -- but we were seated near the front entrance with barely a glimpse of the ocean. It was disappointing given that the view is part of the appeal. The $77 prix fixe menu had a good range of options. The prime rib, lobster chowder, cheesecake, and lava cake were all solid. The crab cake "shareable" appetizer only came with one small crab cake, which didn't feel like a good value. No one asked if we were Landry's members (we are), and it seemed like many other diners were also frustrated with the service. We didn't leave until nearly 4 p.m. -- not because we were relaxing, but because the service was so slow. There were a few bright spots in the food, but the poor service, long wait, and lack of attention to detail really brought down the experience. Sadly, we won't be returning. read more

Had dinner here on July 30th and found it disappointing. While the location and decor was very nice, the service was not. We were seated and our waiter brought out water, and after a few minutes delivered some warm bread and no butter. We asked for butter, and waited until the bread became cooled. Almost 10 minutes later, we asked again to no avail. A few minutes later I spotted our waiter lingering near the cash register and motioned spreading the nonexistent butter to him. Finally around 20 minutes after bring the bread to us we had butter. Ultimately, we ordered appetizers which included 6 "oysters" and a crab cake. I was shocked when the smallest oysters I've ever seen were brought to us. They were all smaller than my thumb nail. My wife encountered some particles of shell in the crab cake and from there it only went downhill. Overall, our waiter only became attentive towards the end of our "meal". Came here with friends for vacation and I need to tell you this place is simply awesome. So many memories have been made at this restaurant ... Wedding Anniversaries and Special Moments. The manager is incredible and really creates an atmosphere of hospitality as well as our server Brian was spectacular. I had the salmon with crab that was served with a mango rice which was on the Chart your Course section of the menu and it was amazing because for $60.00 I got a salad along with my main course as well as the chocolate lava cake for dessert. My bride ordered the blackened salmon and it was off the hook. We are by the ocean so I should use nautical terminology. The salad bar is fabulous and quite frankly is a meal in itself. As locals of Monterey Bay, my family and I usually steer clear of the Wharf and Cannery Row restaurants due to the heavy tourist crowds. However, we decided to give this place a try. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted, and the host kindly took time to explain the different seating options. The views from the dining room were exactly what you'd expect--stunning and quintessential Monterey. Unfortunately, the service and food didn't match the setting. We started by ordering drinks, but the restaurant was already out of both the wine and beer we requested from their menu. My husband settled for a Corona, and I was brought a Moscato that was not only flat but also the last pour of the bottle--per the waitress as she shared only one glass was available. For food, we ordered the a tuna appetizer, Halibut over Lobster Risotto, Seafood Bouillabaisse, Lobster and Shrimp Carbonara, kids' salmon and macaroni plates, plus a salad, mushrooms, and clam chowders. The risotto was overcooked and mushy, the carbonara tasted like plain boiled noodles, and the salmon was so bland my 11 year old mentioned it. The mushrooms were in an even ratio of oil and what the waitress said was au jus, the clam chowder was watery, and the scallops in my bouillabaisse were so overcooked they had the texture of chewy clams. Finally, the mac and cheese was from Costco. I couldn't believe it. Before our main dishes arrived, our waitress recommended the lava cake for dessert and mentioned it took about 30 min prep time, so we ordered it before our entrées. It took the expected 30 minutes, but when it finally arrived, it was overcooked with no molten center--completely missing the "lava" element that was highlighted on the menu. Had we had our main dishes before ordering to experience how lacking all of the food was we would have never ordered dessert. All told, we ordered a wide variety of dishes and spent about $300 hoping to give this restaurant a fair chance. Sadly, the quality was consistently disappointing across the board. While the service staff was polite and the views unbeatable, the food simply did not justify the price. Unfortunately, we won't be returning. read more
