Being that my Brother & Family flew in from Kansas City for the Weekend, we all decided that it would be best for us to go and grab a bite to eat somewhere that he selected. After him telling me that he was staying at a Hotel in Carmel, he was advised by the Hotel to come here because the view and the food were wonderful, so we followed through with that recommendation. After driving in, and finding a place to park, and the place where you can actually park is that once you get into the Restaurant area where there is Valet parking, you actually drive up a bit past the Valet and then take an immediate left to go behind the Hotel rooms that are on the left hand side and you can park anywhere there. From there its about a 2 to 5 minute walk to the Restaurant that is also a part of the Hyatt Hotel. Before walking down to the Restaurant I actually took a stunning picture from a View where I was able to park which is attached to this review. After walking up stairs to meet my wife we walked inside and approached the Hostess at the time our Reservation was. After being seated I explained that the rest of my Family would be walking in and then they would just come over to our table. After they arrived we sat down and were greeted by our Waiter who then introduced himself to us and asked what we wanted to drink. My wife and I ordered a Sprite and a Dr. Pepper and my Brothers Family all ordered water. After sitting for about another minute or 2, the waiter came over with our Drinks and then asked what Entree's we would like. I ordered the Spinach Artichoke Ravioli and my Wife ordered a Spring Salad with a Dungeness Crab Cake. My Brothers Family ordered the Short Rib and the Bread and explained that the Water didnt taste very well but it was drinkable. The waiter I must say was very attentive to our needs and if you get an opportunity to have a conversation with Andrea who is the Food And Beverage Manager, let me tell you how pleasant she was. Not only was she very friendly and professional but also asked us if we wanted to take pictures outside of our Family because she knew exactly where the best pictures to be taken were. I have to agree that the pictures outside of the Restaurant on the lanai are very Beautiful and if you get her to help you take the pictures, you'll be very satisfied. A little bit after we received the bread, we received our Entrees and let me tell you that our food, the view and the service was absolutely wonderful. This place doesnt deserve a 5 star, it deserves a 10. However, the only thing I was very unhappy about is while the pricing is a bit high, the portions are a bit small. It is definitely a less extensive menu but you get a nice little discount of 20% (?) which is honestly great. We requested to sit on the outside terrace and OMG ABSOLUTELY STUNNING! Since we had a limited menu at the time we chose 3 items to share. We decided on the Short Rib Tostone, Fritto Misto, and the Gilroy Garlic Truffle Fries. Yummy! The Fritto Misto is your classic calamari paired with yams that are perfectly toasted and the green aioli sauce gives it the perfect dash of flavor. The Garlic Truffle fries had lovely flavor also and just a heads up the portion is HUGEEEEEE. It's so humongous we laughed about it so much. lol. In short, we paid a hefty premium for an amazing view, great service, but tiny dinner portions which left me stopping for a sandwich on the way back to the hotel. My plus one and I we're celebrating a special occasion, and we love an excuse to enjoy a panoramic view of an ocean sunset. To that end this place met our expectation. It's located just outside Carmel city center and up a hill next to a high-end hotel. Parking can be found in their structure, but there is a steep walk down to the restaurant, something to consider if you are wearing heels or have knee issues. We were seated right up against the window with an amazing view of the water. We timed it so that we will see the sunset towards the end of our meal, which worked out wonderfully. For that, we were grateful. The quality of our meal was exceptional; however, the portions were minuscule and that to me justified, dropping a star for my review. For an appetizer, I ordered the crabcakes, which I thought would be plural. However, they brought us a single one on a plate to share. It was arguably one of the best crabcakes that I have ever eaten, and would compare favorably to any place that I've tried on the East Coast. My scallops were also cooked to perfection, but we had been hiking at point Lobos earlier in the day and despite a decent lunch earlier in the day, they were not enough to satiate my appetite. My +1 ordered the cioppino, which had a generous array of different shellfish. Pasta, however, was only available for an extra cost. We tried a couple of desserts that were also delicious, but did little to stave my appetite. I was embarrassed that I had to stop at a convenience store on the way back to our hotel in Carmel to pick up a chicken wrap after the extravagant price that we paid for dinner at Pacific's Edge Restaurant, but I suppose that I should have made better menu choices. My husband had emailed when he did the reservation telling it was my 60th birthday, but absolutely nothing was mentioned or said which is fine. I've had I know I'm from the Bay Area and maybe I've had much better cioppino's but this is a Seaside restaurant and I paid about $50 for food that was just average. My husband's Lam was pretty good. We stayed at the Tickle Pink Inn a few feet away so it was nice to have a nearby restaurant that was steps away from where we were staying. It's located inside the Hyatt hotel. If you're driving, there are a ton of parking spots. The restaurant is large and can accommodate various group sizes. We made a reservation but it wasn't too busy on a Wednesday night. I'd definitely want to come back during the day to enjoy the view. There aren't too many vegetarian options on the menu, but I'm sure they could accommodate your dietary needs and modify a meal. The ambiance was sophisticated yet convivial. Where you can celebrate a big event and yet it is comfortable. Frederic provided insight in the wines in the area and checked in on us both nights while we were at the table as he has been out waiter in the past. Chris also checked on us on Saturday welcoming us back from just seeing us on Friday. We visited Pacific Edge while staying at the Hyatt, and there's no denying it offers some of the most spectacular views of the Pacific coastline you'll find in Carmel. Unfortunately, the food didn't quite live up to the scenery and felt strictly average. As a vegetarian, I found the options to be very limited, which was disappointing for a restaurant of this caliber. I'd suggest coming here mainly for the atmosphere or if you're looking for a late-night bite when other local spots have closed. read more

My boyfriend and I chose this restaurant to celebrate our one-year anniversary and made a reservation in advance. When booking, I included a special request asking if we could be seated near the ocean view if possible. When we arrived, we were seated in the upper part not exactly with an ocean view. We understood that requests are not guarantees, but after discussing it, we politely asked the host if there was any possibility of moving to a table with a view on the lower level. She told us she would do everything she could and asked us to remain patient while she looked into it. Over the next several minutes, we watched multiple parties be seated, including tables with ocean views, while we continued waiting for an update. At one point, our server even tried to help us when another ocean-view table became available, but it was seated before we could be moved. Eventually, the host informed us that a table was opening up and that we would be able to relocate. While helping transfer our drinks and belongings, she told us, "Next time, don't sit down if you don't like the seats," and went on to explain that everyone wants an ocean-view table and that accommodating those requests is difficult. She finished by saying, "I don't mean to mansplain, but..." What disappointed us was not that our request wasn't immediately accommodated--we completely understand that special requests cannot always be guaranteed. What made the experience uncomfortable was the way we were spoken to after politely asking about a request that the restaurant itself provides an option to submit when making a reservation. We came to celebrate a special milestone and left feeling embarrassed and unwelcome. The food and atmosphere were enjoyable, but the interaction with the host unfortunately overshadowed what should have been a memorable anniversary dinner. If it wasn't for the hostess' treatment towards us, we would've happily returned and/or recommended this restaurant to friends and family. We will no longer be doing either. read more

Wow, where to begin. Major kudos to Rosemary for her amazing service during dinner on our first night stay. We made it too late for the epic meal views, but sitting down and having dinner with the family in such a beautiful restaurant/getaway spot was a great moment. First, they had menus that lit up when you opened them..I meannnn, that's def a first for me! Ordered the Espresso Martini to start, with Frito Misto, the Super Seed Caesar, and bowl of Clam Chowder with Bacon (and bread) for the table. We also ordered a side of mashed potatoes for the baby (his first!) and he loved them, so naturally we knew the full meal would be delicious :) I loved that the Frito Misto came with a fun variety and a bit of different offerings than at other restaurants ~ this one included rock shrimp, artichokes, yams, and calamari. The Caesar also had a bit of a different yet dreamy dressing and crunch, and the chowder was perfection. Next course was the Burger (double patty) and the Pan Seared Pacific Halibut. Beautiful presentation, but definitely needed to-go boxes for the room. For breakfast, we were able to finally see the epic views ~ and WOW, just draw dropping. The Big Sur Platter (comes with chicken apple sausage and bacon, eggs, taters, toast) is hearty and comforting. I will have to write a separate review of where we stayed, but meal wise, the food at the Hyatt Carmel Highlands was so great, it was refreshing to know that if we didn't want to leave the pano Pacific Ocean views we didn't have to. read more

This was an experience that you have to do at least once if you come to Carmel. This restaurant is in the Carmel Highlands Resort which overlooks the ocean. You eat by the windows and you get to experience a spectacular sight! The service is really amazing and you get it served with a chilled container of half and half cream. The service is way above the norm and the breakfast was good. You pay for the ambiance and the view. I had eggs with chicken apple sausage and bacon and the eggs were cooked to perfection over- medium the way that I like them. The menu has a great amount of variety and they say the pancakes are awesome! Be prepared to walk a little distance up and down the hill if you are a guest and not staying as a resident of the resort. Our goal is to come back and have dinner! We come to Carmel annually for the Monterey Jazz Festival and stay at the Hyatt Carmel Highlands. This restaurant is in the Hyatt. Last year, we came here for happy hour (please see my previous review for the deets). This year, we went for breakfast. As indicated in my previous review, the views are spectacular. We set outside, and with the heat lamps, it was perfect. The service at the restaurant is always top notched. The food was really delicious (pics attached). We shared the: - omelette for $26. You get to select 3 ingredients. We added a 4th for $1. We selected, bacon, sausage, peppers and cheddar cheese. Comes with breakfast potatoes. - Smoked Salmon Bagel for $21 - fruit and berry plate for $10 - clam chowder regularly costs $12 (actually got this at happy hour the previous night at happy hour for 30% discount). My friend and I came here for breakfast on Mother's Day. We were staying at the hotel and thought breakfast here would be easy. We were told in advance that the menu for non-mother's day brunch would be limited, and we were okay with that. Food: I ordered the beyond burger with fries. The burger was pretty standard. The fries were good. My friend ordered the standard American breakfast with scrambled eggs as well as an order of pancakes. He enjoyed both dishes. Service: Despite preparing for the brunch buffet, service was decent. The food was slow to come out of the kitchen, but our server was friendly and kept us up to date. There was unfortunately a large party next to us who did not reserve the mother's day brunch and assumed that their booked breakfast with the stay would come with the bottomless brunch. They got pretty rowdy next to us, but the servers and managers handled the situation well. TL;DR - I will need to come back when it is not a holiday weekend to experience the full restaurant, but otherwise enjoyed my food and time! read more
