Went for Christmas Dinner with my family, so seasonal menu. Lobster Bisque and Clam Chowder starters were waaaaay salty. New York Strip too salty. Prime rib somehow both bland and oversalted. Dessert was good. It was Christmas, so maybe that's why, but we had a 7:45PM reservation and were seated at around 8:45. They didnt even have our table fully ready, hostess brought us to a table that was 2 chairs short and had to snag some from another table. Again, we had a reservation for an hour earlier so that was unexpected. Server took 15 minutes to even say hi, let alone get drink order. When refilling waters, she held the water jug in hand, said she would come by, and completely walked off??? We ended up leaving at about 10:30. Not taking particularly long to eat, but the service and wait times were extremely rough. We certainly weren't expecting dinner to take 3+ hours, with most of it being just waiting for someone to bring water or take an order?? Also kind of weird that the music was largely EDM/pop Christmas song covers. The restaurant clientele seemed to be about 60+ years old on average, and even our party at less than half that age were getting headaches. read more

Have been here a few times! The dining ambiance is nice the food is average considering the amazing options in the area. We arrived about an hour and half prior to closing for a few late night appetizers. The bar area has a few high tops that accommodates a party of 2. We had 7. We were told they had a table & were welcome to order just drinks and appetizers. We appreciated the hostess very much. Somehow the message was not conveyed to our waiter that we had no intentions of ordering full meals. Initially engaging and then quite rude with short to single word responses after we let him know it was Drinks/appetizers only. We ordered all apps to come out at the same time and they slowly were served. Two of the three ordered cocktails ordered upon seating came with the bill. We did inquire and requested to cancel but were told they were made but took additional 10-15min to be served. Total seat time was ~1hour. Monterey is a special place and the memories should be too. I recommend many other restaurants in the area and it's unfortunate poor customer service is acceptable given the menu pricing. read more

I have enjoyed eating here over the years but this may have been the last time. The only thing great was the Lobster bisque. Let's start at the beginning of our evening. We were seated and greeted kindly and professional. Our waitress Leslie comes to the table and she was horrible. She has no business working in a restaurant that she is expected to work. She took our order of drinks which included teas, sodas, tap water, bottled water and bottle of wine. After 10 minutes had bread delivered by someone else. We are still waiting for our drinks from Leslie. She kindly brings the bottled water and sets it down away from the person who ordered it. We asked for our water and other drinks. She said they are coming from the bar. Really water in a pitcher can only come from the bar? Finally another 10 minutes pass and we get drinks minus the water. We asked again for water and now have.... Hahaha, oh nobody brought you water. No, you said you would bring the water. Finally she brings water and manages to spill water on the table with ice, over fills the glasses of water, we now have more water on the table. Nobody found this funny or cute. Leslie finally takes our order after she poured the water and never asked if we were ready to order. My husband had to get her attention so we could get our food ordered. The food comes out at different times so by the last time someone got their food the other people were half way done. The quality of the food was average. 3 steaks were over cooked and don't waste time asking for something different since she takes so long. Leslie checked in on the table when we were almost finished eating not during the meal. Refills for water, not from Leslie, we had to get it from someone else who was willing to do their job. Our sides were cold and I'm guessing Leslie let our food sit for a while since the plates were not hot. The quality of the food is average not the great quality that the restaurant once had. Ordered a bottle of wine and she did the proper wine tasting at the table and poured the glass. She then sets the bottle away from the people drinking the wine and places it in front of someone not drinking. When she checked in at the end of our meal didn't offer to pour more wine in glasses that restaurants should offer. We are not eating steak and wine at Denny's. Maybe the food would have been great if served when ready instead of steak that was chewy, over cooked and cold. The dinner was supposed to be a special dinner for someone in the party. While we had bad service she also provided subpar service to another table. That table complained and she was rude and very combative. The manager came to the table and Leslie still had a chip. I am sure she is nice but this type of behavior should not have to be tolerated by customers. The restaurant really needs to do better. We came here last minute without a reservation. We were dressed up with nothing but a whim that we could get a table here last minute. Our bellhop had told us this was a go to place and at first we were not sure. When I looked the place up it had some great pictures of food and I said why not. We got there and we waited for a table maybe less than 5 minutes. They put us overlooking the water by the big windows. We got the coconut shrimp and we enjoyed all three sauces it came with. I got a very berry ginger mule and my partner got something with Gin that changed colors. I am not so sure he enjoyed it that much but he drank it. We also got the house red. I got the shellfish linguini and he got the steak and mashed potatoes. They were out of mashed potatoes and he got a baked potato instead that did not disappoint. Came here on Sunday Jan 4th. Decided to dine her for my birthday dinner. It was an excellent choice. We were greeted by the friendly host who sat us by a window. Very nice spot to watch marine life. The waitress was prompt and very friendly. We had a couple of specialty cocktails first then ordered our meals. My husband ordered the prime rib and it was very good and they have a way of making it very juicy, soft and tender...I ordered the mahi-mahi with peanut satay sauce and jasmine rice. It was excellent. I loved the idea of peanut sauce with the filet and it had a light batter, maybe tempura like but not crunchy. Green beans and the rice pared well with the fish. For dessert, they brought me out a ice cream cake with a candle! How thoughtful and nice. My husband loved his lava cake. We'll plan to return next time we're in town. I think the restaurant was understaffed because it was pretty lonely but they asked us to wait 15 minutes for 2 people & that tells anyone that a restaurant is understaffed. We ordered Avocado-toasts & a salad as soon as we got a table. our server was really professional, he even came by the table to apologize because food was taking a very long time. Disappointing Mother's day brunch. We arrived at 11am, didn't eat until closer to noon. The service was very slow and the menu was limited and lacked well rounded options. It seems they were severely understaffed. Our drinks were left empty for the majority of our meal until we reminded the server multiple times. The server was kind but I could tell she was spread thin. They ran out of ingredients and didn't check in with our group on replacing turkey bacon with regular bacon until it showed up on the table. The eggs benedict came with a side of bread ?? odd choice. The plate was huge and the portion was tiny. The tiramisu espresso martini was 10/10 and the view was gorgeous, otherwise would sadly not recommend. They have a parking lot across the street but there are only about 4 spaces for customers and the rest is for employees only. Glad they care about their employees. We paid for street parking which was alright with us. For dinner, we had the miso sake glazed black cod which was perfectly cooked and served with vegetables & a light yuzu dashi broth. We absolutely loved this dish. We also got the Chart Your Course dinner set and had the lobster bisque as a starter (the soup was good with little chunks of lobster and decadent but it was served lukewarm). We ordered the prime rib as the main course but at 6:30pm, the restaurant had already sold out on that. So we had the miso maple glazed salmon wrapped in prosciutto served with a sweet balsamic glaze and green beans. Both the salmon & the green beans were overcooked and the balsamic glaze was a bit too sweet. For dessert, the chocolate lava cake was rich and delicious. The restaurant staff was very nice and gave us a complimentary mud pie dessert to celebrate our anniversary. Very nice touch and we were delighted. I don't want to feel like they are just trying to push me through. We had a reservation and I thought I would get seats by the water but instead we were over by the bar area. Which also hurt the vibes. Miso salmon, not good. Too many flavors mixed together. Cocktail was messy looking. It was okay but again when you're going out to a nice place you have a higher standard. A bit of a bummer, and I probably won't be back. I know it's a chain but it felt very much like eating at an upscale Outback Steakhouse. Five star experience - food was delicious but the service was extraordinary. Certainly best service I've had in the last year. Our server was very very good. She knew the menu like the back of her hand. She was very kind, attentive, and friendly. We met the general manager who spent 10 minutes speaking with us. He was very friendly and attentive. He provided insights on how he and his employees prepare the restaurant for opening. It was very insightful and I appreciated learning. I could tell the employees model his behavior - great leader! The inside of the restaurant is beautiful. Views of the ocean from just about every table. If you're lucky - you can sit right at the window, above the ocean, overlooking the Monterey peninsula. The floors were spotless. Tables were clean and professionally finished. The windows that surround the dining area were so clean - no streaks or anything - crystal clear. The manager said he often goes out and cleans the exterior when necessary. He also has regular window cleanings to ensure the view for customers are maintained. We ordered the coconut shrimp. My wife ordered a bowl of chowder and the Alaskan Cod. My daughter ordered the mac n cheese. I also ordered a small side of mushrooms. I selected the 3 course dinner which consisted of another (smaller) bowl of chowder, the 10 oz prime rib, and the small chocolate lava cake that we shared. They also provided warm bread with whipped butter. All of our food was wonderfully presented and cooked to perfection. I highly recommend visiting this place. Went to Monterey for a day trip with the family. Decided to try the Chart House and made reservations online. They open at 4pm, so that is what we chose. There were people waiting when we got to the entrance, waiting for doors to open. Once inside, they went through the line and sat us quickly. We were given a table with a view of the water, which both our kids were excited to sit by the window. We started off with a bread basket. It had little brown bread rolls, rolls that looked like ciabatta and then some sesame crackers. The kids both ordered the salad bar. It had many of your usual salad bar staples, but also had caviar, a curried chicken salad, anchovies, some type of marinated mushrooms... the kids enjoyed all the offerings and went back about 3 times. We had the seared pepper ahi tuna appetizer. It was served alternating tuna and avocado, over a bed of cabbage slaw that had little crispy wonton bits. It was also accompanied by pickled ginger, Wasabi and soy sauce. As we ordered dinner, we were asked if we wanted to add on soup or salad. I added clam chowder and my husband added lobster bisque. The chowder was creamy and delicious. Everything you want in a clam chowder. The lobster bisque came with a little lobster meat on top and was very good, as well. My husband ordered the peach bourbon glazed scallops and shrimp. They were perfectly cooked and had sauce on each bite. Under was a bed of grilled corn, grape tomatoes, asparagus and bell peppers. He enjoyed it a lot, but just wished there was a little more sauce. I had the bronzed swordfish. It was served with lump crab and tomatoes on top and a lemon shallot butter. The menu said coconut ginger rice, but I didn't really taste either flavor come though. It had peas and carrots, so it resembled fried rice, but wasn't fried. For our drinks we had the peach palmer. They were perfectly flavored and I would probably get that again. I also tried the reconfigured cocktail. Scotch, port, caramelized fig syrup and bitters. They bring out an ice sphere, pour the cocktail into it and then break it in your glass, so the sphere is now your ice for your drink. Dessert! They have a hot chocolate lava cake that is made to order and you have to order 30 minutes in advance. It came out warm and delicious. The lava cake was topped with vanilla ice cream and a type of chocolate shell with toffee bits. It was seriously so good! Gooey, but crunchy in all the right spots! Chart House has been beloved by many and there's good reasons for this. For starters, this venue was absolutely gorgeous. Beautiful architecture, and a row of tables along the windows overlooking the gorgeous bay. The food was phenomenal, we started with a Crab Cake appetizer, grilled watermelon and feta salad & Lobster Bisque, Lobster+Shrimp Carbonara and Crispy Coconut Shrimp, and a Lava Cake to top it all off. All of it was fantastic, i think the Crab Cake was a definite winner along with the carbonara. The dessert was good but it also was just your standard lava cake, no different than anywhere else. Our Server Mark was also very kind and courteous. We happened to know what we wanted quickly and so he took our whole order Apps through dessert and just put it in at the proper time. Quick tips: Great mock tails if you're feeling N/A and only 3.50 for a refill. They also have moved to QR code for payments on the receipts. Very disappointed with this place and would recommend dinning elsewhere. Came in on a busy Saturday night. We knew it would be busy so we made reservations. Despite the crowded restaurant, we were seated at the time of our reservation. Not always easy for a restaurant to do. So we definitely appreciated that. Our server was helpful and attentive once we were sat. Ordered drinks right away. This was ghetto highlight of the night. We ordered from their cocktail menu. All of our drinks were tasty. Just the right amount of alcohol. Three of us ordered prime rib. Two of them were ordered from their "Chart your Course" deal. Which, is a really good option. Included cup of soup, salad, choice of entree, and dessert. My mother ordered the Shrimp Pasta with the deal. Now, we came in close to closing time. So I wasn't too upset when we were told they were out of prime rib. What was a little condescending was the manager selling us that we were being "upgraded" to a 14oz NY strip from the 10oz Prime Rib. A simple apology would've sufficed. My other issue was my steak. Which I ordered medium rare. In my opinion it came out more on the medium well side. I could have brought it up, and I'm sure the server would've offered to correct it, but I didn't want to do that to the kitchen. The flavor of the steak itself was lacking overall as well. The clam chowder I ordered also lacked clams. Maybe all these issues stemmed from our late arrival. I can understand that. But if the establishment is going to accept a reservation so close to closing, I'd want a better dining experience, especially for the price. Side note. We called ahead and asked if there was a dress code. There wasn't, but it's still a steak house so we felt under dressed showing up in jeans and T-shirts. The restaurant was very nice and food was good. We happen to be there on a busy night but this restaurant tends to get busy especially during the holidays. We did make a reservation to make sure we were able to get in and it was a couple minutes before we were seated. The food overall was very good. The filet and fish dishes were cooked to perfection and not overly saturated with seasonings. There were a couple things that were missed during dinner, little things that a higher end restaurant shouldn't miss. We didn't get butter with the bread, need to ask for it; a steak knife for the filet; and my drink wasn't right a couple times which they did correct but took a hot minute! I've always seen this place when I came to visit but had never eaten there. Well, tonight was the time so I made reservations just to make sure we could get in. Arrived on time and was seated within a couple minutes which was good. Our waitress Alma was courteous and attentive. We ordered drinks right away a chocolate bourbon and the sangria. The sangria was refreshing and delicious and the bourbon was good as well. For appetizers, we ordered the crispy tuna and a cup of clam chowder. The crispy tuna was cooked perfect and delicious and the clam chowder had good flavor but a little loose for me. For or entrée we ordered the lamb chops that came with a potato purée and carrots. The whole meal was lukewarm like it had been sitting under the heat lamp or sitting too long before they brought it to our table, the lamb chops were very small and the portions weren't enough, but the flavor on the lamb chops in the meal itself were very good. My husband & I don't get to go out just the 2 of us, that much these days so we were really looking forward to a good meal! The food we were served was subpar and bland. We had dinner here on Valentine's Day. It was packed, which was to be expected. Our waitress was pleasant but things went down hill when she went on her break while we were still waiting for our entrees. An hour after we ordered, we had been served & finished our appetizer & salads. The waitresses covering for our waitress on her break came up to our table and started to say "I'm supposed to tell you....OH! I'm at the wrong table" and then went to the next table and told the couple sitting there that they had run out of something. Long story short, the waitress left and then came back and told them it would be 10 minutes before whatever they ran out of would be ready. That couple had arrived after we had received our appetizer. I decided to have a cocktail, a mango mojito. It had a nice flavor but it was extremely weak and if I'm being honest, if there was alcohol in it, it wasn't much. I'm a lightweight and yeah....I'm not sure there was any alcohol in my $12 mojito. So we finally get our entrees. I ordered the filet with blue cheese butter and mashed potatoes or so I thought. My husband got the NY Strip steak with mashed potatoes, or so he thought. The food runner put our plates down and rushed off, forgetting to bring steak knives. And instead of mashed potatoes, we were both given rice! Now I do like rice but this rice, I just didn't care for. Not a fan of whatever they mixed in it and it didn't pair well with steak, it seemed more appropriate, taste wise, for seafood. I was disappointed, to say the least. We flagged down our fill-in waitress and asked for steak knives. When she returned with steak knives, she asked how everything was so I told her that I thought my meal had come with mashed potatoes and she said "OH! I was supposed to tell you we were out but I will bring some right now, they are fresh". The mashed potatoes were definitely fresh but they were unseasoned. No salt, no pepper, didn't even taste garlic. I understand that the restaurant was busy and this other waitress was filling in for our waitress but someone should have told us the mashed potatoes were delayed and offered us another side instead of making that decision for us, especially considering this is a $250+ meal. We waited over an hour for our entrees, I'm not complaining about the wait at all, we expected it and the appetizer and salad held us over, but to let us sit for over an hour and not ask us if we would like another side or if we wanted to wait for the mashed potatoes? That's not good customer service. I realize this is a petty complaint but the disappointment was real. I order the same thing every time we come here and I really did not like the rice. Overall food was subpar. It was chain restaurant quality. The Cesar salad was bland, needed pepper. I was never offered fresh cracked pepper nor were there shakers on the table. My husbands steak was unseasoned. My Filet was medium-well on the edges and borderline raw in the middle, definitely not medium. And the mashed potatoes were also unseasoned, no salt, no pepper and not even a hint of garlic! I get that it was one of the busiest nights of the year but I expected more. I don't feel we got our money's worth. The staff were great but the food was not. read more

First, the good: The food is generally delicious, and portions are decent. Unfortunately, this is overshadowed by poor service. Actual issues during the experience: - Even with a reservation + we arrived on time, it took over half an hour to wait to get seated, then another 10+ min before a server came for our order. - The seating area was very dirty, with trash from the previous guest scattered around the floor. - They didn't serve bread, which, based on other tables we saw, is supposed to be complimentary. - We ordered prime ribs, but they didn't provide steak knives until we had to ask multiple times. - A server saw our table (6 seats) was close to another one and then told us we could consider moving it a bit to the side (instead of offering to move it), which is a bit of a ridiculous suggestion to guests. read more

If you want to celebrate a special occasion, THIS is the place! I made reservations online to celebrate my sister's birthday. There was a mix up w/the menus b/c they usually customize them for whatever you're celebrating. I was disappointed to see the ones we were given were just regular menus. **Hubby noticed too** I asked our server if they no longer customize and he was like, "did you make the reservation today?" I said I made it a few weeks ago. He said Oh then they may be next to the printer and went to check. Sure enough, they were there!! and we traded him menus. It wasn't his fault. I think the kids at the hostess stand could do a better job and pay a little more attention to detail when it's a special occasion, like this was. I only knew about the customized menu b/c I came with hubby for an anniversary, and he didn't know about it either until they surprised us w/the menus :) The service was excellent from our server. He was knowledgeable and attentive. He gave excellent drink recommendations for us and for hubby b/c hubby loves his old fashioned STRONG and I like my cocktails sweet yet a tad strong. He nailed it! He brought my sis a birthday dessert with a candle. I asked for tabasco and they did not have any. A bit weird if you ask me for a seafood place to not have hot sauce. I was brought siracha instead, not my favorite for seafood like this. But that won't deter me from returning to this restaurant! The restaurant is nice and a lil fancy.
