Christmas Eve dinner at Chart House, a classic fine dining establishment on the banks of the beautiful St John's River. We started things off with the Shrimp, Avocado, and Mango stack. Presented exactly as it sounds with a serving of fried Taro chips. A cool and refreshing way to start a meal. That was followed by a steaming bowl of lobster bisque. Rich, creamy, with a hint of sherry. For the main we got the Key West Spiced Grouper. It's a grilled Grouper served atop of mango sticky rice with a beautiful habanero pineapple butter. Just spicy enough to make the lips tingle, but not so hot to kill the palate. Can't beat the River view from the fabulous window seating, but there's really not a bad seat in the house as you can see the water from every table. We enjoyed lobster bisque and chopped salads as our starters. The bisque was topped with a sprinkling of shredded lobster; it was velvety and tasty, if on the slightly salty side - but that makes it a great soup for dipping bread in. Speaking of bread, the complimentary bread basket is not brought out automatically, but rather offered at the start of your meal (so that carb conscious and/or gluten-sensitive diners can decline). There's something for everyone: hearty white rolls, medium brown cracked wheat rolls, and seeded crackers. Next were the entrees: prime rib with au jus and silky mashed potatoes (part of the $55 prix fixe menu), coconut shrimp with mango salsa sticky rice. Solid dishes, both cooked perfectly, though something to keep in mind: some cuts of the prime rib have more gristle than others. For dessert, we all opted for the individual lava cakes (this is the dessert offered on the prix fixe menu and their most popular dish on the dessert menu). It comes a La mode with vanilla ice cream; or you can ask about seasonal house made ice cream flavors, as I did. I selected strawberry, which was a great pairing with the rich, dark chocolate of the lava cake. It was intensely bright pink, so made for a visually striking presentation as well. Since it was my birthday, I also received a complimentary slice of the house mud pie ice box cake. This consisted of a mild mocha nut ice cream crusted with crushed dark chocolate cookie crumbles, enrobed in gloriously thick chocolate fudge ganache, and finished with fresh whipped cream. Had the pleasure to dine at this establishment for my 36th birthday. The staff was very welcoming and attentive. The view is nice enough, little outdated but nice and clean. The food was excellent, the only reason for the four stars is because we had reservations and it took about 30 minutes or more to be seated. Once at the table for dinner, our waiter was just slow. The view was fantastic. The food was delicious. The ambience and atmosphere were superb. I couldn't have asked for a better place to celebrate a special day. The parking lot was full when I arrived but I found a spot. The restaurant is right on the water so I took in some views before heading inside to eat. People were walking the riverbank path and boats were cruising along. Seemed fun. Inside, I waited about 5 minutes to be sat, in their waiting area. I was taken to my table with a view of the river. We had the coconut shrimp to start and then I had fillet minion with the blue cheese butter on top and my husband had the mahi mahi. awesome ended with the lava cake. zero complaints on the food. everything was so delicious. The service was also top tier. The hostess sat us at the cutest two person booth overlooking the river and our server checked on us the perfect amount. My only issue is the age of the restaurant shows in the upholstery and it had a sort of smell. Obviously the age is part of the appeal as the architecture reflects a really cool display of curves and vibes from the past, but maybe a deep clean on the fabric of the seats wouldn't hurt. read more

A party of 9 with reservation, restaurant not full (Thursday night) and it took nearly 2 hours for our food to come out. Everyone was too polite to return dishes to the kitchen as this was a business outing and who knows how long it would have taken to come back. You could see nearly all the plates had dried sauce/ looked like they had been under a heat lamp for a long time and then were barely warm at service. My grouper had a gummy-texture center and yet the outside was overdone and dry. The view is nice and the interior is unique (but smells like the carpets need to be taken up). Unfortunately the food is not just unimpressive but also barely edible. Do yourself a favor and go someplace else. I will not be going back. read more

Making our way back to Florida we like to break up the drive and layover somewhere. We like places that are in the hotel or walking distance. This place fit the bill. Right in the parking lot of the Marriott and right next to the water. The views were awesome! We had reservations but still had a 30 min wait. That was fine. The bar was nice and drinks were cold. They were stretched as most places are these days with the government still paying folks to stay home but those that were working were very efficient. After grabbing a great drink at the bar we were say right by the window with a great view of the river. Very nice! We started with Lobster bisque. It was smokey and delicious. Nice and creamy and full of lobster. For our main we split the Shrimp n lobster pasta. It was great. Cooked perfectly. Smokey flavor,cooked prosciutto. Deb did not like it but I thought it was delicious. We were pretty full by this point but we saved a little room for dessert. The Mud pie was as good as it looks! Overall we had a great time here. We ate here for my MIL's 80th birthday. While the service was friendly, the restaurant felt dated and cold and had poor acoustics. We waited about 35 minutes for our entrees. The food was only mediocre (very salty) and the menu definitely needs an update. Many other places in Jax serve better food with a reasonable price tag. Not worth a repeat visit. read more

The Chart House was recommended during my stay in Jacksonville, Florida. I absolutely love the views, and the ambience of the restaurant is wonderful. The service was also impeccable! Our table had a variety of dishes to include everything from seafood to steak. The steak was ordered as a medium and it definitely came out on the rare side. I think this is unfortunate for a steakhouse. Temperature for steak is pretty standard and there was a significant difference in what was ordered what arrived. I enjoyed my fish, but it definitely lacked on the flavor side. Presentation for everything was top-tier. I did enjoy the molten chocolate cake, I think I'll definitely be back for that! This was our first time visiting this particular Chart House. We've enjoyed another location in the past, but this one fell short when it came to the food. The steaks were just okay--we've honestly had better at Texas Roadhouse. That said, the atmosphere was good, especially with the waterfront views, and the service was excellent. First visit and will not be our last. Love entrance and decor and that doesn't include the beautiful view from the table. Arrived early and were seated early next to the river. Pricilla our server was a delight and very engaging and had great menu knowledge. The wine selection and appetizer suggestions were spot on. We knew we were having the prime rib, so went with the $54 10oz set meal. And that was above and beyond. Cooked to correct temps well portioned servings. I elected the New England Clam Chowder and this was the only thing that stopped them from five stars. The chowder had no clam bits and was very watery. Always enjoy a visit here This location is quite upscale and located in an amazing building. The outside of the building reminds me of a fort or a bunker, but it is very impressive. They outside lighting really shows off the architecture. This sets the tone for a nice evening. Service has always been good and the food selections cover most bases for most diners. Jacksonville's Chart House has a prime location on the the water of downtown Jax, overlooking the Daily's stadium. This gem has been here for a number of years serving fine steaks, seafood, and more. Unfortunately, I feel as if this restaurants time has passed after my experience here. For starters, the location is beautiful and the ambience is decadent, so you walk in with high hopes. after being seated at a table covered in white tablecloths, and formal servers coming up to me to explain the menu. I ordered the shrimp, avocado, and mango stack as an appetizer and the other person I was with ordered the clam chowder. These appetizers took about 45 minutes to come out and the soup was cold. Then, our entrées took about another hour to an hour and 15 minutes to arrive. My swordfish was very stiff, not flaky or juicy, and very mediocre. The bread that was served underneath it was rock solid and inedible. The person who I was with got A steak and mashed potatoes which came out stone cold. The steak was not cooked correctly either and I felt as if our entrees were sitting underneath a heat lamp in the window of the kitchen for 35 minutes. I will note that the plating of each dish was beautiful but the quality did not match the presentation. You do eat with your eyes first but what hits the mouth is more important. Needless to say, I'd skip out on my next invitation to Chart House..... read more

Either the bartender(s) were not able to keep up with the drink orders in the restaurant or they were prioritizing some servers (or their own guests at the bar) over others. I used to work in a restaurant and know that can happen. Either way... the bartending service needs to be looked at. Either up the bar staff or make sure they are filling the orders as they come in... not picking and choosing which ones to do first. read more

We made it to Monterey (from Texas) with 2 hours to spare as we had dinner reservations with old high school friends flying in from Florida. I had requested a window view since we were celebrating our 46th wedding anniversary and our friends' 49th. The Chart House accommodated us well and the 4 of us ordered "surf/turf" choices that did not disappoint. Our waitress, Cindy was very efficient and friendly. It was our first time there and our Florida friends' favorite restaurant choice in Monterey. We had our Office Holiday party at the Chart House this year. They are closed during the day so that is when you can book time for your events. They offered appetizers such as a colorful vegetable tray, meatballs and chips and spinach dip which were passed and buffeted. We had previously made our choice of one entree, chicken picatta, steak medallions and a fish choice. At the end we had chocolate cake or cheesecake. It averaged out about $50ish a person. The food was good as always but as a event for over 50 people not so sure..maybe to have a nice dinner with a smaller number. They could use a remodel..or fresh new look is my opinion but they are a staple of downtown JAX and hope they stay that way. read more

For my entree I ordered the grouper and it was cooked perfectly, crispy on the outside and soft and flaky On the inside.
