I thought both the service and food were meh. We were seated quickly but the waitress was a bit bizarre in her mannerisms. Not sure what that was about. The food and drinks were ok, not good but not bad either. They were a little bit expensive for what you get in my opinion. Glad i tried it but don't think I'll be back anytime soon. read more

Our first visit here was mediocre, but since the Mechanicsville location is great, we decided to try again. We were told the wait would be 40 minutes but ended up waiting well over an hour while multiple parties were seated ahead of us. The menu is smaller here so I got a Caesar salad, the dressing was extremely citrusy and didn't taste like Caesar at all but it was very large. Everything felt overpriced. Our waitress was very nice and the happy hour is good, but overall the experience wasn't worth the time or cost. read more

Amazing ! My daughter and I were taking a friend to the Richmond Airport today We decided to have lunch before going to there I randomly searched online for places that were not the usual chain places to eat . I picked because of the lunch menu which appeared to offer something that each of us would eat . We ordered the salmon entree and the steak sandwich. The service was excellent, the food was delicious and the time from order to food on the table was amazing The seating in the back was a bit dark, but the service and the food far outweighed the small lighting deficit. read more

Sometimes when we're running like Ċṛäżÿ during the day and I need a quick lunch I'll myself to takeout from a nicer place rather than wolf down some nuggets . ((Absolutely no disrespect intended towards the nuggets- they absolutely my toddlers and have their proper place in the food chain.)) One of my favorite to-go lunch options is the appetizer menu from charred. I do mean the entire appetizer menu, because there's not a bad thing on it, however my go-to favorites are the bacon dates and the burrata bruschetta . The dates are stuffed with whipped goat cheese , wrapped in thick bacon, and then drizzled with honey . The burrata bruschetta is a great addition to the dates- it's practically salad and veggies are healthy, right? The generous heaps of burrata have the perfect center, and comes served on a medley of diced tomatoes, onions, arugula, basil and is topped with balsamic glaze and served with toasted sourdough points . The perfect fancy little lunch date on the go (for sharing or not!). Tip: if you're at all able to spare the time to dine in, grab a table by one of their fire pits on the patio and grab a Pain Killer ! The nutmeg dusting on this creamy coconut concoction transports you right to the beach at Christmas time. read more

We have supported Charred since it opened during the pandemic, but this week may have been the final straw. I took my son (3) for a dinner date, we sat at the bar - his first outing after getting out of NICU was at Charred, his baby shower which was on his 1 month birthday (preemie) was at charred, this wasn't the first experience. The bar wasn't packed, the bartender not overwhelmed or hustling, but it took 18 minutes to even greet us. We clearly were not a priority, it took getting her attention just to order food, we continued to be ignored. I went to the hostess for menus, asked another server for ketchup after attempting to get her attention multiple times, another customer reached behind the bar and got us silverware after our food arrived, I even got up to get to go boxes from a food runner. The experience wrapped by having to ask to busser for the check which we eventually got only to find happy hour prices were not applied but should have been. Given the incredibly poor, drawn out experience, I didn't ask for a correction but did have time to write the note pictured, hopefully she took it to heart to make it better for others as we will not be returning anytime soon. read more

I was craving a wood fired pizza and this didn't disappoint. We ordered two - Margherita and the Signature with meatballs, provolone, fontina, pickled Fresno peppers, honey and basil. They were both good, but the signature was really delicious! We also ordered a burger to go for my daughter. It took forever for this to come out, but she really enjoyed it. Overall, service was friendly but very slow. Good atmosphere and beer selection. Would definitely come back for the food. read more

Four of us stopped in for lunch around 1 on a Tuesday. It wasn't too busy, and service was very good, but they seemed short-staffed. It didn't effect our service though. Food was good. We had a grilled Caesar salad, which was unwieldy and should have come with scissors; pimento cheese with bread, which was good; shrimp tacos with collard greens; a burger with fries; and brussels sprouts. The brussels were definitely the highlight - perfectly cooked and seasoned. The burger was really good, well-cooked and seasoned. The fries were way above average - super crispy and tasty. I hate ketchup and mayo and love to dip my fries in steak sauce or bbq sauce, but they had none of that, which was a disappointment. I would have thought that a place called 'charred' would have bbq sauce, but I'm no expert. Bottom line - flavorful food and friendly service. read more

I went here with some friends & we tried a bunch of different things. One of my friends also complained about the water, it is in fact room temperature & pour it yourself - which is fine, but they never refilled it for us. One of my friends got the spring strawberry cocktail & she didn't love it be sure it was more citrus heavy than she expected. But I liked it & drank the rest! We got an order of the truffle fries, they were alright but the truffle flavor was not distinct. I got the cheeseburger which seemed to be very popular. I did enjoy the mix of flavors the toppings provided. Everyone else got pizzas which I tried, & liked. Especially the one with hot honey. After discovering the work holiday party food was super picked over and not appetizing, we played a game of Yelp roulette and landed on Charred. I have to admit my expectations were low and I was very pleasantly surprised to discover that Charred hits all the right notes. The food is a solid four stars...we tried three apps and a salad with grilled shrimp and all were tasty but the ahi tuna definitely stood out. Super fresh and perfectly seared, it just melted in your mouth good. Would go back just to eat that again! The fifth star is for the bar program. Charred has an excellent menu of classic cocktails with some notes left twists and they use better than average spirits in their libations as well. That Manhattan may be in my top three of all time...and I've had a lot! If you are in the area I would definitely recommend giving it a try! read more

Not the best food except for the bruschetta. It was awesome. Didn't care for the white chicken pizza. Very very dry with absolutely no bechamal sauce on it. It was also overcooked. My husband loved the short rib ragu. The service was great and the noise level was perfect. The price however was way out of line with this type of restaurant. Might go back. Not sure yet. read more

First time I was here is for lunch with a new friend and a place I had on my list for a while. We split the pimento cheese (superb) and a pizza which was more than enough for two. My friend took home a couple of slices. The second time was for dinner, and not our original destination, which had a 90 minute wait. We ate outside with a great fire and heaters and I recommended the same meal and it didn't disappoint. This time, there were no leftovers. The pizza is with arugula and white cheese. I know I've reviewed them before, but today we went and ate in the restaurant for the first time and I was so pleased!! The staff was all super friendly and seemed genuinely happy to have us there. They were all wearing their masks and following Covid protocol. Now for the great food. We started with wings in the Fresno Buffalo sauce. They were soooooo good! I'm not even a wings person and I couldn't stop eating them. Hubby is the wings guy and enjoyed them, though he would've gotten a spicier sauce if I wasn't sharing. I also love that they serve them with cucumber instead of celery and the ranch dressing was soooooo yummy! For lunch I had the burger. There was an awesome smoky flavor. I think it is the pimento cheese. Again , I'm not normally a pimento cheese person, but what the heck, I figured it's on a burger it wouldn't be bad. I was right. I seriously enjoyed the burger and told hubby I would go back just for that. His Nashville chicken was good as always. I'm not a huge fan of the fries, but that's ok because I shouldn't be eating them anyway. I will try a different side next time. I also want to provide thoughts on our takeout order from last week. I got the mushroom pizza and that is now my favorite pizza of all time. Seriously. My only food complaint this far is the salad. I got the regular side salad/tossed salad and it was so much kale. I am not a kale fan. I think it is supposed to be a garnish, not a main vegetable. Would like an option for salad that isn't spinach or kale or ceasar. But that's just me and I won't go here if I want a salad, just if I'm in the mood for almost anything else. I've had their pasta twice and it was amazing. On a side note ordered a side of asparagus for $6 and got literally 6 minuscule thinner than a pencil asparagus. Asked the girl and she stated yep that's the side order. Charred is sort of a blend of family eatery and bar. This is the kind of place you can bring kids, let them destroy the table (parents you know what I mean), order some great pizzas. Service is exceptional. The wait staff is attentive, and they get the order right. The establishment is clean and tastefully decorated. But this is where the good things stop. If you order anything but apps, pizza, or the burgers (I highly recommend the Charred Burger), the food is so-so and very pricey for what you get. For example, scallops are $34 and not worth the price....I can get a better meal with scallops at a high end restaurant for $28. If you want a meal out at a casual place or bring your kids, Charred is it. If you want to impress a date or get a delicious meal at a lower cost, Charred is not the place to go. read more

Today was the best brunch experience I've had during my time here in Richmond and I'm so excited to talk about it. Let me start by saying the food was great! I ordered chicken and waffles with a few delicious modifications (crunchy waffle, blueberry compote, scrambled eggs) and my bestie ordered a margarita pizza which also was delicious. Also, don't get me started on how good that jalapeño tequila drink was because THANKS JESUS! All of that was great and we'll definitely be back for that. But the reason why I'm excited to go back is because of Abby and Matthew! This was, hands down, the best service my friend I have ever experienced at a restaurant and I'm so grateful we got to experience them. They both came to the table with the best energy I've received in Richmond, smiling and ready for great conversations. How he knew I was a Pisces I will never know but the hilarious and thoughtful conversations with the both of them began there and lasted through our entire brunch. Abby was in training but you'd never know it! the way she came to the table with confidence and explained the best items on the menu is what led me to trust that the chicken and waffles were going to be a hit (and they were!) I want to thank you both for the energy you brought to today's exchange. A lot of people will run to share what went wrong but rarely talk about what went well.
