I've been to charred a couple of times now and it is a great little spot! I am always excited when something new and unique comes to the south side so when charred opened up I was excited to visit. The times I have gone I always get the white chicken pizza. The bechamel sauce is beautiful and creamy, the salt of the pancetta is perfect, and the chicken is juicy and flavorful. I've also had a cocktail or two here and they have a good selection. The drinks are a bit on the higher priced end, but it seems to fit the vibe of the restaurant. I should give this restaurant a zero but I will give them a 1 for their food. But the service continues to be subpar from the front of the house to the kitchen to the wait staff. We had 5 women for dinner tonight and had to be berated twice by staff over how they could not accommodate us with two tables pulled together outside when we sat down so we squeezed in. Then after we paid they basically told us we would not be allowed to sit with 5 at a table again. They wanted us to split tables. This is the 4th time I have been to this restaurant with different people and each time it is terrible customer experience. Well I have finally learned my lesson. They also brought out two of our meals with the wrong sides and we had to continually ask for dirty plates to be removed and empty wine glasses taken instead of just picking up the old when they brought a new glass. read more

Where do I start? This place is just awful. We walked in, table for 4 and asked if they had a gluten free menu, as the menu did not indicate gluten free on any items. Yes, they have a gluten free menu. We were there for lunch, and there is hardly anything at all on the menu, let alone the gluten free menu. My mom orders the caesar salad with grilled chicken. The rest of us order some wings to share and pizzas. About 2 minutes later, 2 women come to our table and tell my mom they can't make her a salad because they don't have any of the ingredients available to make a salad. They only offer salads after 4 pm for dinner. What? My mom says fine, she will have the burger. The woman says "With no bun?". My mom. "Ummm yes. No bun." (That's what makes it gluten free.) She asked how she would like that cooked, my mom says medium. About 3 minutes later, our server comes to our table. Repeats her order as a question, and asked again how she would like that cooked. Wings are delivered. We ask for small plates TWICE. Wings were decent. Pizzas come and they are burnt to a crisp. Very little cheese and burn taste so bad, most of the pizza was unedible. My moms medium burger, was very well done. Fries were horribly undercooked. No one ever came to check on us, no refills offered, nothing. I would suggest going to McDonalds. read more

I recently visited Charred for the first time for dinner with my family. I was so impressed with everything! Walking in, we were enthusiasticly greeted and chose to sit on the patio. Both customers and staff appeared to be enjoying their evening! We were promptly greeted by our server, Liz. She was patient and knowledgeable as we discussed the menu. She recommended some wonderful cocktails and appetizers. We really enjoyed the crab dip and brussels sprouts! Dinner and dessert were just as impressive! In the midst of a busy evening, we were regularly checked in on. Our drinks were always full, and empty plates were cleared! The manager even stopped by to make sure we were enjoying everything! We visited on a Saturday afternoon as we wanted to try somewhere new. Upon walking in there is a bar and lots of open tables. There is also outdoor seating. We were warmly greeted and seated. I told my waiter that I had a garlic allergy and she promptly went and met with her manager and they gave me an updated menu with the items I could eat. They were very professional and helpful. I had the grilled chicken club sandwich and my wife got the margarita pizza. I got the asparagus as a side and it was grilled perfectly as many places don't get it right. My sandwich was good although my chicken was cold and maybe that's just how they present it. My wife said her pizza was ok. They had a solid beer selection on draft with multiple varieties. Overall we had a good experience and would like to try out some other things on the menu. Thanks again to the staff in recognizing an allergy. read more

HEALTH HAZARD... I used to love Chard, going there every week with my family and easily spending $100+ each time. But after my recent experience, I will never set foot in this place again. What started as a routine order became a health hazard and a nightmare of an encounter with the owner. We ordered four plain burgers with just lettuce and tomato, but what we got were burgers with cheese, bacon, and a white sauce on them. No big deal, right? We politely brought the food back even though they had closed past 9:00 pm, and they were nice enough to make them at least what it looked like. They agreed to remake the burgers, and I thought everything was fine... When we got home and opened the bag, we found three burgers completely wrong, loaded with pickles, red onions, some dressing, and hot SRIRACHA SAUCE, not to mention that they left out one burger. We called back to explain the issue to the manager/owner, and what followed was the worst customer service experience of my life. At this point i dont think i was even talking to the owner. The person on the phone was beyond rude and arrogant; it was almost like I was talking to a third-grader. There is no way any owner would talk to a customer the way he did. Instead of apologizing or offering a solution, he dismissed my complaint with condescending and a shocking lack of respect. When I mentioned the hot sauce, he questioned how I even knew it was hot sauce. Excuse me? What kind of question is that... I think, at this point, he was trying to cover his ass for what he did; they messed up the order on purpose. I titled it Health Hazard because one of my family members is allergic to hot sauce, and thank god she didn't eat it. All I wanted at this point was a refund for the four burgers, and I even offered to return them. His response? "What am I going to do with the burgers tomorrow? You keep them at your house." He didn't want me to bring them back tonight because he said they are already closed... He then claimed they don't even carry Sriracha, implying that we were lying or that they deliberately put it on our burgers to be petty, which they did. Things escalated when I insisted on showing him the messed-up burgers. He kept repeating that they don't use Sriracha on burgers AT ALL, disregarding my concern. Long story short, he hung up on me without ever apologizing or resolving the issue. This experience left me feeling sick about what else they might have done to our food out of spite or to anyone else. If you care about your health and how you're treated, I highly recommend avoiding Charred. They messed with our food just because we returned the order they botched after closing hours and then treated us like garbage afterward. Who knows what else they might do to your food? Stay away from Charred if you value your health and dignity. I WOULD GIVE IT 0 STARS IF I COULD. read more

First time here (from Vegas) and I'd gamble Charred is the best restaurant in the area. It takes quite a bit to be able to say everything from start to finish was perfect. Friendliness of staff, ambiance is casual yet upscale chic indie music not too loud, drinks crafted to perfection, and food was not only delicious but perfectly portioned. I had the spicy mule, delish! My husband had a draft craft beer and really liked it. We recommend the bacon wrapped dates and white corn bread for appetizers, I can still taste the butter it was so good! For dinner we had the burger and Caesar salad with steak. Even the romaine was lightly charred for extra flavor, so Charred definitely lives up to its name even for salads! Everything tasted amazing, and service was great. If I could post a negative rating I would. I am not reviewing the food, service or ambiance- we never got that far. Over the course of the past several weeks I have been trying to make a reservation for 15-20 people for Sunday Brunch at this place for our first Sunday of the month on November 5, 2023. I have spoken with 3 or 4 hostesses and at least 3 supposed managers. On each occasion the current manager contradicted the previous one. At the end of each conversation we reached an agreement, that was subsequently questioned by another manager. Now on Wednesday, November 1,2023 I received an automated text to confirm our reservation for this Sunday, which I responded to. Within an hour of my confirmation I received a call asking that I confirm the reservation and informing me that this would all have to be billed on a single check. I gave Charred a try last weekend on Saturday night and the place just didn't make sense to me. Based on the sign, name, and look of the restaurant I expected it to mainly be a pizza place but on the menu the first thing my eyes went to was Shrimp & Grits. A nice little surprise but surfing through the menu pizzas were just a side column on the right side and in the end are maybe about 20% of the menu. Not a big deal but I wasn't sure this was a place I'd try a higher level dish just yet. The menu options were a bit all over the place ranging from burgers to scallops to tacos and a a half-dozen pizza options as well. They also offer small bites, apps, desserts and do brunch. The decor is a bit rustic and minimal (not a problem) but with a high end bar featuring a good selection of craft beers and an aged coffee filtered bourbon used to make Old Fashions. Service was a bit fast-paced and rushed with staff operating as multiple positions it seemed. The music was danceable and seemed suited for happy hour at a bar. There was TV's and monitors with women's wrestling and football. I couldn't tell if they were trying to be a pizza place or a restaurant with a nice menu and bar. I couldn't tell if they were trying to be a sports bar or a place to have a nice dinner. I couldn't tell if it was a family restaurant or a place where I have to watch women fighting while I eat. I couldn't tell if the best use of the place was to meet friends and talk and relax or to drink and joke over club music. In the end I was able to have a Hardywood Gingerbread Stour (a must for this time of year) but unfortunately I ordered the tremendously over-cooked wings and a terribly disappointing white chicken pizza. (I had pizza again later that week to rectify the experience, kind of like a do-over.) Thankfully I refrained from ordering the $40 scallops entree which I have no expectation to have been up to par (but to be fair who knows, since I didn't try them). Overall Charred is an acceptable, though highly unfocused, mismatched, confusing place. I just can't tell what the owners are trying to do or who they're trying to be. All of this isn't all too bad if the food hadn't been so disappointing. I wouldn't say we had a bad experience overall but Charred goes into the category of restaurants where I'm glad I gave it a try but don't have any plans to go back for a second time. read more

We arrived on a Thursday around 5:45pm, not busy at all for dinner. It's such a cozy atmosphere when you walk through the doors. We made it just in time to catch the end of happy hour! I ordered a Blood Orange Smash and it was delicious! We started off with their Burrata Bruschetta, their bread is always perfectly toasted. For my main, I went with their Pan Seared Salmon. I am particular with salmon and a lot of places either undercook or overcook. This piece of salmon that I had was perfectly seared on the outside which a beautiful crust and so tender and moist on the inside. Everything on my plate complimented each other well from the pesto to the risotto. The asparagus was cooked perfectly, not to mushy or too crunchy. Everyone else's dish in my table was plated well and looked very appetizing. Our waiter was fantastic! I didn't catch his name, but he has a tattoo sleeve and long hair. We saw a pizza waiting at the pass for around 10 minutes ... someone else finally realized it was ours and brought it over. When we decided it was time to leave, the waiter had still not returned. We had to get another waitress to get our check. When leaving, another man asked us "how was our lunch" ... and I recounted that the waiter disappeared. He had a snarky reply, "it's magic". Lol Quite literally copied Tazza Kitchen from the wood fire concept to the cocktail menu drawings to the atmosphere (don't blame ya, that place is great) with a bit of putting your own spin on it but the food is all pretty good and I will definitely have to try some more cocktails. Our server wasn't very tentative as he only took our food orders and gave us our bills at the end and others dropped our food off . My simple eggs and grits sat under heat lamp 20 minutes waiting for my dad's burger and others order of wings. My eggs hard as rocks and grits dried out. Dad's burger wrong burger.
