Wow, from CO and didn't expect this outstanding Mexican food in Bismarck! Guacamole cart arrived right after chips and salsa, worth the 11$ for an ample bowl of custom dip made to order right in front of you, You call the ingredients. Chips were warm, salsa delivered in a small carafe, with individual dipping bowls(nice). Cilantro usage was right on spot, not spicy, but flavorful. Opt for the draft amber Dos Equis , 7$ gets you a large 22 oz? Beer! Enchiladas (one shredded beef, one carnitas) smothered in tomatillo sauce, both meats were very good. Mahi fish tacos were loaded with fish and tender. Rice and beans and picante on side rounded out the plate. Service was outstanding, very attentive and warm and friendly! Wow! I wanted something to go - to eat on the road to Fargo - and the hostesses recommended the flautas. They were awesome and I'm sure much of the rest of the menu would've been equally good. This is hands down the best Mexican food I have had!!! A delicious house margarita with delicious chips and salsa to start the meal! Next we had fresh table side guacamole. As soon as I finished my margarita the main entree of a nacho cheese burrito was delivered! The cheese sauce was top notch!! Let's just say we're always here :P The friendly staff and delicious food keep us coming back. We're from California and so are the staff so it's not just "ND Mexican food". It's actually better than a lot of Mexican restaurants I've been to in California. The guac cart is AMAZING. The ladies that run it automatically come up to us because they know we love it so much. You can customize it and they make it right in front of you. The warm chips and salsa is a perfect combination as well and I'm not a usual fan of salsa. Everything is flavorful, my go-to has been the chicken quesadilla (which you can also get from the a la carte menu for only $5-$6) and it's adult sized. My recent favorite is the chicken enchiladas tapatias w/ cheese sauce. The servings are huge and easily shareable. Last but definitely not least, the drinks are soooo good! The bartenders are great at what they do so don't be afraid to let them know how you like your drinks. The piña colada and bahama mama are my faves. read more

Food was pretty good. Deceptive lady pulls up with a cart and offers to make fresh guacamole...offered at same time as chips and salsa are delivered to table. No notice provided to advise the guacamole was $10. That's a surprise you receive when you get the bill. Disappointing. There's no good reason for them to fail to tell you the guacamole costs $10. Also, large Bud Light on menu priced at $4, shows up on bill for $6. We questioned this error and the manager lady smiled and said "oh yeah, our menu hasn't been updated to reflect the new $6 cost." Wait; what? You're advertising a $4 beer that rings up as $6 in the bill!!?!? Unclear why the manager didn't acknowledge the wrong price and discount it on the bill... no, you get the bait and switch. Also, ordered the super burrito meal and it was not served with either Spanish rice or refried beans. Kind of a downer. I can't recall ever eating this meal at a restaurant before where it wasn't served with these sides. read more

If we were rating this place based on location I'd give it a 5 since it's easily some of the best Mexican food I've had in North Dakota. But alas, it IS in North Dakota so you aren't going to get truly authentic or remotely spicy food here. Having said that, I enjoyed my meal here. Place was packed but service was friendly and efficient and the food came out surprisingly quickly. And you know they aren't in the back microwaving frozen food (Olive Garden/Appleebees) since you can sit at the counter and watch them actually cook the food. Margarita was great. Tamal was good. Camarones a la Diabla was awesome, albeit not very spicy at all. Perhaps that's why the online menu lists it as Camarones a la Diabia rather than Diabla since it isn't very devilish. I come here for the guacamole. The best guacamole in town! They make the guacamole right in front of you and I don't know what type of magic they put into it, but man is it delicious! This place offers Tecate (but not Tecate Light-which I really wish they did) a Mexican beer! Not many places in Bismarck offer that on their menu, which is what I like. I also get their shredded beef taquitos, which come with a side of queso to dip them in (tastes pretty great!). I'll update, as I come here quite often! read more

This is the real deal. The salsa and Chilli dishes are consistently excellent and they have great chicken dishes as well as your traditional Carne Asada with a side of wonderful spice and flavor. As someone from AZ, we know good Mexican food. It's my favorite kind of food. Charras did not disappoint. The chips and salsa were on point! We got the table side guacamole and it was delicious. My entree was the tacquito salad (beef), which was really just a tacquito platter. It was very good. It comes with queso which was fantastic! This was a loud and chaotic place. It looks like they get very busy. We liked the open kitchen. Menu was simple, which was nice. We both ordered the steak street tacos. Street tacos are generally made with corn tortillas. The menu for this place said the street tacos were made with corn tortillas but after inquiry (after eating one and thinking it was weird) I discovered that this place uses a hybrid tortilla that was part wheat flour and part corn. We would have eaten elsewhere if we knew they were mislabeling their menu items. That was not a corn tortilla. Now I'll have a bellyache for the next 48 hours of this road trip... it would have been so easy to just be honest about their ingredients. Also, the house-made salsa was super salty. Amazing chips. They weren't too salty either. The only annoying piece is that the bathrooms are in the entry way so you smell air freshener leaving and arriving versus the tasty food. After a week hiking and camping we needed a shower and good meal. The hotel provided the shower and this restaurant, which was within walking distance so we didn't have to drive (my husband loves that idea) fit the bill. The food arrived fast and hot and the staff was super friendly. We had three in our party. We also had the fresh made quacamole (10.00) and the fried ice cream (which was so so). I came here with my family for the first time and we were not disappointed. The wait time took about 10 minutes because there were two big parties in front of us. That's understandable. When we were sat at our table, we received two warm and fresh chips with salsa. We were greeted promptly and received our drinks quickly. While we were deciding on our order, there is an employee with a rolling cart with fresh avocados to make guacamole in front of you. I thought this was neat! When we were ready to order, they had portable devices that they can instantly put in your order. They did not have to write anything so it made our order go directly to the kitchen. I was impressed and made it easier for the server to put in our orders promptly. Otherwise, the prices were good for the big portions we received. On a Thursday night the place was pretty busy, we were told it was going to be a 15 minute wait for 2 so we sat down in the waiting area, one minute later the owner comes and asks if we want to sit at the bar over looking the cooks, yes please. The cooks were very friendly the guacamole lady made some excellent guac, we ordered the food and it took about five minutes after ordering it to be brought to us we got the Texas fajitas which were very very delicious, also got a house margarita which was also very good.! I've been wanting to try this place out since it opened - I took my aunt and uncle out to dinner and it was great! My aunt and I are vegetarian and my uncle is not - plenty of options for us all! First of all, the salsa is pretty fresh! I really liked it - we all did. I got the vegetarian chimi and my aunt got a vegetarian combo - we both liked what we got and my uncle liked his as well. Both my aunt and uncle liked this white queso they got. My vegetarian chimi was stuffed with peppers and onions and mushrooms...and pineapple. Which was actually fine. Not a bad combo! I liked the rice and the beans on the side were delicious! Kind of smokey. All the sides that came with mine were great. This place just seems fresher and more on point than most Mexican restaurants. I'll definitely be back. A note though, the place is ridiculously loud when full. Sound just echoes everywhere. We could hardly have a conversation. Stopped in for dinner. This was my first visit to Charras and Tequila. The inside of the building is vibrant and fun. The layout is a little off. You walk into the foyer and the restrooms are located there. There is a small sitting area with a host or hostess. There are two bar sitting areas. The way they are positioned is a little odd. They seem out of place and you feel like you're sitting in the middle of everything. The staff is super on point and the restaurant is pretty spotless. The food was really good. I got the trio shrimp. There was fried shrimp, grilled shrimp and shrimp on a red sauce. I have no complaints with the food. You get chips with salsa while waiting for the entree. They have some with a cart come around and make guacamole from scratch in front of you. It was delicious. If you are looking for a Mexican dinner I recommend Charras and Tequila. I had low expectations of finding good Mexican food in North Dakota but I was pleasantly surprised. The food was ten times better than anything we've gotten back home in west Texas. We had tableside guac, beef enchiladas with white sauce and the fajita burrito, all delicious! Will definitely stop here again next time we visit family. read more
