Okay, I'm going to be as real as possible. The service was great, the restaurant is really pretty and unique--a tucked in restaurant under condominiums and other businesses--but the food was meh. I ordered the rotisserie chicken and it had no flavor and honestly, if they had taken it out 2 minutes earlier, I probably would've been left with undercooked poultry. The salad was probably the only thing that tasted good, but that's not hard to do when you have good ranch as dressing. This is one of those places you can pass on but resort to if the others are closed. They got a decent bar with great bartenders. I had a very upsetting experience at Broadway Grill that I feel others -- especially those with food allergies or celiac disease -- should be aware of. This happened a while back, but it bothered me so much I still think about it, so I decided to finally write a review. I ordered a gluten-free pasta dish and clearly informed the waitress that I am gluten intolerant (celiac). When the dish was brought out, I noticed a single regular noodle sitting right in the middle of the pasta. It was visibly different from the gluten-free noodles. Thankfully, I spotted it before taking a bite. Cross-contamination is a serious issue for people with celiac disease, and even one noodle can make us very sick. I asked for the dish to be taken back and explained that I was too nervous to reorder it because I didn't want to risk getting sick. Instead, I ordered a simple green side salad and specifically requested no croutons. A few bites into the salad, I found a crouton. At that point, I was extremely upset and honestly tearful. I informed the manager and explained how serious this is for me. I asked for the salad to be removed from my bill, given that it also contained gluten after I clearly requested it not to. They refused. For anyone with celiac disease or a serious gluten intolerance, this was not just an inconvenience -- it was a health risk. The repeated lack of attention to a clearly communicated medical dietary restriction, followed by the refusal to remove the contaminated item from the bill, was deeply disappointing. I hope the restaurant takes food allergies more seriously in the future and improves its kitchen practices and staff training so no one else has to go through this. Since this experience, I have never been back and would recommend others avoid going back to this restaurant. read more

Holy cow. That was bad. We're driving through Bismarck in a road trip and stopped for dinner. It seemed like Broadway Grill was the only place open in town on a Friday night. Wow, must be tough to live in Bismarck. Anyway, walk into the grill. The patio is nice. Beautiful weather out. Server talks to us right away to get drunk orders, great. Then comes back pretty quickly with the drinks and takes our food orders. No problem. We're waiting around for over 20 minutes when the server returns to let us know that there are no fish items available. There goes my ahi tuna and my husband's fish sandwich. I impulsively switch to the shrimp scampi and my husband orders a burger. Our appetizer of Brussels sprouts arrives and they're tough, bitter, and the mustard sauce on them just doesn't jive with their flavors. Then our food comes out. My shrimp scampi is the saddest shrimp scampi I have ever seen. It's essentially steamed shrimp on buttered noodles. What the hell? Not even a hint of garlic or white wine. The upside is that my 2 year old loved the flavorless buttered noodles. My husbands bacon cheese burger was dry and charred. Not good. My kids refused to eat their kids cheese burgers because they were also dry and crusty. The fries were good, at least. Service was slow, but I did see our server trying her way to wait on several tables. She was very friendly at least. read more

Broadway grill is okay. Not bad. Not especially good. Just okay. Service was slow (and there were only two other table with patrons). Food was okay. I ordered the "cowboy steak" which was done to the temperature requested, and nicely seasoned, but the food temps were uneven (e.g., the mashed potatoes were bordering on cold). RL's pasta dish would also best described as, "okay." I would recommend the bar area for drinks and pupus, but the restaurant area was nothing to write home about. read more

This gets 2 stars because it was a nice evening and the outdoor seating was pleasant. However, the food was a disappointment. Ordered the bison meatballs as an appetizer but got given grey and stringy unpalatable ahi tuna instead...and it came at the same time as the entree, an extremely overcooked burger. Nothing like sitting outside on the patio with some cool air enjoying a nice meal and cocktail. We had the friendliest server and the food was very delish. Even though they were operating off a limited menu we still every bit of our food. Next time I am in this part of the US I will make sure to visit this place again. read more

Update: The three people in our group that had the sea bass all became sick last night. Coincidence? Lose a star for that... now time to clean the bathrooms, yuck! Review: Apparently they can make cocktails here, but I didn't try one. I got the beer that I ordered and the table, silverware, floor and chairs were clean, so they get another star for dining room cleanliness even with the dated decor. Service was extremely slow and on the borderline of poor. Can you check on us to see if we would like more drinks? Bring some water occasionally? Our waitress didn't have many customers to take care of in her section. The restaurant and bar area were less than half capacity at 6:45pm on a Saturday evening. A couple of appetizers were ordered, served within 15 mins, and rated as fine. Food took over an hour to arrive. The pasta dishes were served cool. The steaks and burger came tepid at best and were very over cooked from what was ordered. At that point, the food should have been returned, but we didn't have another hour to wait for another round to be prepared. Sides were missing on a few of the dishes, but no mention of substitutions were brought up till we inquired about them. They were hoping we didn't notice? I ordered the cowboy steak which they billed as a flat-iron cut. What I got was not a flat iron steak, it was more along the lines of a bottom round cut. I ordered rare to medium rare but what I got was horse leather. Actually, that might have tasted better than what was in front of me. If cowboys had been subjected to eating steaks like that, they would have given up ranching and become rutabaga farmers. I declined to get a to-go box for my leftover steak, as I didn't want my dog to break a tooth eating it... The table behind us returned all their beef dishes because they were cooked incorrectly. New items were brought out, but still barely satisfactory to them. It seems that the sea bass was the only meal that people were happy with, even if it wasn't served as warm as it should have been. (Update, watch out for the fish!) This place has been getting more negative reviews as time goes on. Unfortunately, all restaurants have a finite life. This one has reached the point of needing to be taken behind the barn and shot. If you are looking for a meal in town, I'd avoid this restaurant unless you were looking for sea bass served cool. (See update above!) At the present time, I'd call this establishment an embarrassment to the people of Bismarck. read more

PROS: - Good service in the bar area (ONLY in the bar area). -The Wine Lover's Companion Appetizer (I come here specifically for this, it is really good). -Clean, spacious, great atmosphere; one of the "classier" places to eat in Bismarck. - Great drinks. CONS: - Really bad service in the main dining area. I have come on numerous occasions on a various nights and the service in the main seating area (not the bar area) is ALWAYS terrible. On average, it takes about 15-20 minutes for anybody to realize that you're there and then it takes about 15-20 minutes for you to get your food ordered. A number of times, I have watched people get up and leave due to poor service. I really hope management figures this situation out. The bar service is outstanding compared to the regular dining area, I am not sure why. - Price. Although it is a nice place to dine, it is not superb dining so I am unsure why the prices are super high on some dinner items. Nonetheless, I come here to enjoy a good beer, the Wine Lover's Companion, and the nice atmosphere. read more

In one of the first days that felt like summer, my coworkers and I went to Broadway Grill & Tavern to say farewell to a couple people leaving. We wanted an outside patio to enjoy the sun. We arrived and sat outside es at the largest table available. Unfortunately we were not able to get the umbrella up, and after 15 minutes of struggle, we gave up. Not once did a server or worker come by to assist. We waited over 20 minutes to be acknowledged, given water, and get menus. Food served is pretty average with decent salads, burgers, and appetizers. I would say that nothing blew me away. I was really happy to sit in the sun and for sure can see the appeal. If you want a place to sit and chill, have no where to be, then this is perfect. I love their steak salad for lunch. But the last time I ate there-- about 2 weeks ago-- the service was terrible. Specifically, it took an extraordinarily ling time to get our food once we ordered. Obviously this place had or has the same staffing problems as many businesses do now. Our server was the bartender who apparently was pressed into having a dining section to take care of. All other foods (steak, burger, pasta) were cold, over cooked, served cold and incomplete. Server should have told us upon ordering that they were out of mashed potatoes and should have offered fries (which are excellent by the way) when it was brought to attention that we didn't get the potatoes, she let us know "oh, we are out of potatoes" when asked for a discount, she brought out a flavorless mash of something We had to ask several times for water. Quite honestly one of the worst all around experiences I've had in a restaurant and I was very embarrassed to have brought my visiting friends here. I'll start by pointing out it was not very busy later in the evening when we went. Numerous mistakes in service without so much as an apology once. Very long wait for the food. Steak was asked for medium and came out rare and at that point we didn't even bother trying with the service there. It wasn't just the service though. The prices were ridiculous for the amount of and quality of food. I have no issue paying $30 for a meal but it has to be better than something I can get at a fast casual. If you want to try this place out I wouldn't do it with people you care about. I have only tried the dinner menu but it was so terrible that I can't bring myself to try the lunch menu. read more

Broadway Grill & Tavern is a good addition to the Bismarck dining/bar scene. Bismarck has greatly changed over the decades and I'm happy to see my hometown growing and prospering! The prices were comparable to Pirogue Grill, which I wouldn't mind paying if the caliber was similar. The Bison Ragu was fine, but I've had better in other cities for a more affordable price. The Broadway Babe martini was too sweet for my liking, but other reviewers liked it and it's one of their popular items so take my word with a grain of salt. The thick crostini and heavy toppings on the tasty, well-portioned beef carpaccio appetizer made it cumbersome to eat. Try the roasted chicken and glazed donut bread pudding, both were deliciously great! Service was good, but I was also dining with regulars. The restaurant interior lacks warmth and liveliness, but it recently opened so perhaps in time, that may change. The bar ambiance is more merry and alive. My friends & I ate in the bar and had belly aching laughs and no one cared. I miss Bismarck and its lack of pretentiousness! Bottom line: If you are looking for a place to enjoy a nice dinner and be somewhat 'rambunctious' without feeling embarrassed, I'd give Broadway Grill & Tavern a whirl! Our server was very nice and accommodating and it was nice the kids' food came out first. Other than that the timing of the food was terrible. We ordered 2 orders of nachos, and the adults were almost finished with the one with meat before the one without meat was served to the kids. Also, the kids were done eating before the adults got there food and a couple of our dishes were luke warm. Plus the kids meal chicken tenders was supposed to have fries and was served without and we were charged for the 2 pops that were supposed to be included with the kids meal. Our party had 3 kids meals and 5 adult meals. Also, there must've been something wrong with the tap system as the Coors Light tasted fruity. The restaurant is clean, has good lighting, and has nice/simple decor. read more

For my birthday dinner I came here with a table of 7. The service was attentive. I ordered a Cosmopolitan and it was good but not chilled. Steaks were good, I liked the ribeye better than the filet. The appetizers were ok, a little strange if I had to say. The biggest disappointment was the Au Gratin potatoes, they were hard and undercooked. This item is what made me choose this restaurant and if they had been made better I would probably return. I feel that Bismarck really slacks on high dollar meals. read more

I've eaten here for both lunch and dinner recently. Both times the food was nothing short of exceptional. The lunch special was a southwest chicken sandwich which would make any Arizonian proud! There were also 2 soups. I chose the cream of mushroom and consider it the best I've ever had. For dinner we had burgers, steak and seafood. Everyone was pleased with their food and said they would return to this restaurant on their next visit to Bismarck. Appetizers and dessert were definitely a hit with all of us. The atmosphere is casual. The crowd noise is not bad at all, you can visit and not feel the need to raise your voice. The guests were 20 something's to retired age. It's truly a fine dining experience for Bismarck. Service from beginning to end was impeccable. Their staff is very friendly and eager to make sure you have a good experience. I will be returning again and will recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a good place to dine. I've read some of the negative reviews and feel they must have been there on an off day. Over the past few years, I've seen a decline in their food quality. This used to be one of our favorite places to go for sharing appetizers. However, the last three times I've been there, the quality of food just hasn't been all that great. We do always sit in the bar as we don't want a big dinner. I went over for a business lunch. The burger was okay. Somehow the meat was chewable though it was far too well done. They up charge you $2.50 if you share a burger. Even though that means THEY DON'T HAVE TO COOK 2 BURGERS. I didn't ask for 2 plates. I don't care. My server seemed high, my salad was not worth $5. My advice would be: If you want to charge big city prices, up the quality of both your food and the service. Or give me a free beer for putting up with this, then I'll be in a much better mood! read more

Service is good, especially for having just opened. Food for lunch was good and reasonably priced. However, dinner was overpriced for what you get (both quantity and quality). Steaks are tough (on separate nights with separate people). And completely inflexible on substitutions. And the substitution I wanted to make was for salad dressing!! They wouldn't even put it on the side. Certainly not the worst place I've been, but no place I'd choose to eat dinner again if the decision were mine alone. This place has some great food, service was spot on at my last visit. The bar menu has a reasonably priced house burger and a walleye sandwich that are both really great. Other than that the dinner menu is pretty expensive and the appitizers are tiny. I got the vibe the at the atmosphere is driven towards a recently retired crowd. Its kinda dark in there and I felt awkward. Just not my scene i guess. And the music on the patio at last visit was deplorable. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. It's over priced for poor food and poor service. My boyfriend and I both ordered steaks medium well, we waited almost an hour to receive our food, once we finally got it my steak was so pink it looked almost raw still. I told the server that I had order medium well and this was not accurate. She simply reached over the table, took my plate and said ok. An apology would have been nice (I even apologized for being THAT person). The steak tasted absolutely awful once she finally brought it back, I couldnt even finish it. After that she didnt come back to our table but to give us the check (mind you they were not busy). Needless to say she got a $5 tip on a $100 order. We will never spend our money here again nor will I reccomend it to anyone. read more
