This restaurant has so many windows to provide natural lighting and would be a great option on a nice sunny day to enjoy their patio. The day we dined was too windy to sit on the patio. The hasselhoffs were delicious and perfect for sharing. I wasn't sure about the sauerkraut, but it worked well to cut through the grease and richness of the tots and cheese sauce. The fishwhich had a generous portion of walleye in it and I loved the shoestring fries. The spatzle was very rich and way too cheesy and creamy for my husband. It basically was like a bacon mac and cheese dish. The bison burger was a little dry, but not completely dried out like a lot of bison burgers can be. It got an overall thumbs up in taste. Service was okay. Our server was replaced by someone else who bluntly said he didn't know what he was doing, but would do his best to figure it out. He did fine, but it was weird hearing that proclamation. I wish they offered their dinner items during lunch. I was hoping to try out the dinner menu, but the day we dined the restaurant was closed for dinner service for a private event.

If you're ever in the area, you must come here! My dad and I were on a road trip from California to North Dakota. He wanted to pull over somewhere and take pictures of the Missouri river. It was almost dinner time, so while I was searching for a place on Yelp, I happened to notice a cute restaurant along the shore. I tried searching for some reviews or insights on what the menu was, but found nothing. Huckleberry House did not have a Yelp or Google Maps page yet. We decided to give it a try and it were so pleased. The food was delicious and the staff was super friendly. We ate outside on the patio and the ambiance was simply wonderful.

Traveling through North Dakota, which has a very large Scandinavian population, I was excited to check out Huckleberry House, a delightful restaurant on the Missouri River that re-imagines traditional Scandinavian dishes. I started with the Widow Maker - Widow Jane 10-year, gunpowder green tea syrup, and smoked thyme. The drink came to the table smoking. This paired perfectly with the Devil's Eggs. No ordinary deviled eggs these, but rather smoked eggs, horseradish, smoked chilis, crème fraiche, pickled mustard seeds, and chives. What a fantastic combination! I went with a second appetizer for my entree: Köttbullar - Swedish-style bison meatballs with allspice gravy, lingonberry, and crispy potatoes. The dense and flavorful meatballs needed the creaminess of the gravy and the tang of the lingonberries (together, they were filling and tasty). Dessert was lefse (Norwegian flatbread/pancake), which I believe was layered with white-chocolate cream and nuts and topped with a bourbon-banana glaze and sliced bananas. The view of the Missouri River is stunning, and the staff was very friendly.

I rarely ever write a review but this place is deserving. The quintessential diner experience: waitress bantering with the regulars, home made pie (that you always seem to get the last slice of), perfectly brewed coffee, friendly service, and absolutely delicious food. I would eat here everyday if I could. The entire diner has an overarching feel of nostalgia wrapped in a hug in front of a fireplace? If that makes sense? The Chocolate Creme pie might have been the best piece of pie I have ever had. The soup of the day was incredible, and if you are lucky enough to get a caramel roll, I highly recommend it. The single worst part of this experience was realizing I would not be able to have it again soon as I was traveling through. But you can bet your rear end the next time I am in Bismarck, I am making a drive over to Ohm's Cafe. Arguably might the best diner in America. Food was delicious, not too greasy, homemade, full of flavor, affordable, and just exquisite. However you define this restaurant, I do not care, all I care about is making sure whatever it is, there is more of it.

The knoephla soup had a ton of knoephla swimming in sweet cream, but no potato or any other flavor. The only redeeming dish we had was the sour cream apple pie. It's not that any of it was bad... it just wasn't all that great. Although I know people who sear by it, so take my opinion with a pinch of pfeffer. Service was quick, and the server was helpful. The ambiance is VERY small town cafe.

Then the bartender came in and he was dressed like he just woke up and his personality was so off putting. He had zero customer service skills, treated the servers terrible, literally wouldn't even look at them. I travel a lot and am out to eat for food and drinks multiple times a week and haven't witnessed this ever. I literally had to leave it was like being a paying patron was a bother to him. It wasn't busy either. I was so confused, if you hate your job so much find a different one. And management should really find a different face to your patrons on the bar. The name for the bartender on the ticket was James C. Do better. The venue was really nice though. I went to the other side at The Stadium side and it was the polar opposite, friendly, polite, attentive and offered food suggestions. A very pleasant experience.
