I've been a fan of Charm City Skin for a long time and when I wanted to get a spray tan and lash tint before vacation, I booked with Kayla since she had availability to do both. I had never gotten either of these services before so I had a lot of questions which Kayla answered patiently and personably. She has such a friendly and bubbly personality! The eyelash tint was a little uncomfortable for me but this may be because I was wearing contacts. I probably would take those out next time and maybe even consider a lift and tint since the tint by itself looked nice but was really subtle. Kayla made me feel very comfortable for the spray tan and did an excellent job with the color and tone. I was obsessed! It definitely faded a bit after the third or fourth day but to be fair, I was on vacation and swimming in the ocean and pool a lot. All together the services were $65 which I don't think is bad at all. I'd definitely return and would recommend booking at this local biz! read more

10 years after my first review... I'm back to tell you I'm still going here religiously for my brows, and Julie works her magic on them every. single. time. I routinely get compliments on my brows and I owe it all to Julie. In addition to keeping my brows looking incredible, I've expanded into getting my lashes lifted and tinted, as well as a facial with dermaplaning. The services never feel rushed, and everything is explained in detail so you know what's happening before, during and after. Everyone that works here is so friendly and welcoming, and they all do excellent work. I had an appointment for a back facial in July 2022 with Ebony to celebrate my graduation from college. The appointment itself went well. Upon leaving, she suggested I buy an African net sponge online. I was enthusiastic and said "oh cool! I've seen those on TikTok". She rolled her eyes and laughed at me. She said "Yeahhh I've been using them for a long time but it's cool you've seen them on your TikTok" in a mocking smug tone. It has been over 3 years and I still think about how uncomfortable and embarrassed she made me that day. The way you treat people sticks with them. I feel so lucky to live in Hampden, where I can walk to so many businesses and services. And Charm City Skin is one of those businesses that I love having nearby. I've visited twice - once for nail services and once for a facial. (And I have another appointment booked for next month.) The services I've had have been great. Charm City Skin is definitely on the pricier end of the scale for spa/salon services in Hampden, but they offer great services. Helpful, conscientious staff; I've always felt welcome and relaxed here. Great location (located in a row home on Elm at the corner of the Avenue - across from Mona's Super Noodle and Wine Source). I went here twice for eye brow threading and Julie was excellent! I really liked the way she styled my eyebrows and I was excited to have a local place to go. However, when I went to make my third appointment, I noticed that the price had nearly doubled and is now $25- and that's without tip. Unfortunately I can't justify that cost anymore so I will be returning to a salon in Parkville with more reasonable rates. read more

This place is welcoming and so home-y feeling. However I'm learning something about myself: I must always get a Hydrafacial and I must always get it from my hometown esthetician. The service is good but I'm not a fan of paying for something I can do at home. Do I feel my skin looked or felt better? Honestly...NO! I've had enough facials to know when I feel rejuvenated. I wish there was something about my payment that would've been worth it. Like some steam or a machine to deep clean my face. It was just product on top of product placed on my face. Nothing more. Love! Love! Love! Love! Love! Love!!!!!!!! They have forever fulfilled my waxing needs. I was happy from start to finish. The moment I walked in the door I was greeted by their lovely receptionist who also offered me a glass of red wine or water (both are self-serve). This was comforting being that it's been awhile since I waxed and my nerves were getting the best of me. But once I was on the table I realized I had nothing to worry about. They use a mixture of soft and hard wax depending on which area is being waxed, and I promise this was the best part. Nothing hurt, literally nothing at all!! We did underarm, Brazilian, and lower legs and I literally couldn't complain. Not to mention my waxed took her time, and made sure she got every single hair. I will be back for sure as long as I'm in Baltimore. I honestly wish I could take them with me when I leave. read more

I had an appointment here for my eyebrows, but unfortunately due to traffic issues I was 8 minutes late. As I was walking in, they called me and said my appointment was cancelled due to being late and they couldn't take me, no exceptions. Despite the service itself being only 10 minutes at most, in a 15 minute slot, I felt this was unprofessional, disrespectful, and a good way to lose new clients. Updated review: I was very disappointed that my waxing appointment was cancelled, with zero explanation. I realized when I attempted to reschedule that the esthetician I preferred to do my services no longer works there. Instead of attempting to see if I was still interested in having the service with one of their current estheticians, my appointment was just cancelled. I previously recommended Charm City Skin to many friends and family for several years but no longer feel like I'm a valued customer. I am SO glad I came across this sweet spot. I was emailing back and forth with the front manager, to make an appointment and Sam was super accommodating. She called me to make sure I'm prepared. I'll start this review already feeling bad because I feel like I'm cheating on my normal wax salon by going any where else.. But I was in a rush and needed to get my brows together.. I made the appointment online which was super easy but they had a lot of same day availability so that should have told me something.. I made an appointment with Valerie because I saw she was highly recommended in others reviews.. Once I arrived I had to find street parking, which wouldn't have been bad if it weren't for all the pay stations that were out of order! Ugh. The place was really easy to find once I found parking. I was greeted by someone sitting in the waiting area (the receptionist was taking a call) and was really confused when she didn't introduce herself at all.. Just asked me my name and told me to follow her.. I guess I just have to assume she was the woman I requested.. Once in the room she told me what my brows should look like and how the previous person did them wrong.. She proceeded to do my brows how SHE thought they should look.. After some correction and direction from me I now have brows that I am happy with.. I guess some women go in not knowing what their face should look like but I am not one of those women.. At that point there was no "new customer" paperwork or really any proper introductions.. I left back out to the front to pay, only to learn I couldn't tip on my card (I never carry cash). The receptionist never even told me how much she charged to my card (good thing I looked at the prices ahead of time) and just said "just brows? 'Swipes card' your good, have a nice day" she did mention something about emailing me a receipt (which I haven't seen yet)... Overall with a little guidance I have decent brows, my face feels a little sticky and the customer service was lacking.. I now know better than to ever cheat on my wax lady! Just came home from a great session with Shannon - a Brazilian MASTER. As much as I love Aida Spa down in Alexandria, I knew I had to find a Baltimore place, and let me tell ya, CCS is EXCELLENT. I had no trouble finding free street parking right in front of their (adorable, well-designed) space and had a top-notch experience with Shannon. As other reviewers noted, she's very friendly, talkative, and puts you at ease. She was great at helping me time my breathing to minimize the pain. Very clean, no double-dipping, and a comfy space. The one thing I would have changed: she put a cream on at the end of the session and I didn't ask her what it was, but it's somewhat sticky now. I'm sure it will come off in the shower, but next time, I'll definitely ask :) read more

My mother has been going to charm city for years. She has always noticed the amount of employees coming and going and figured that's just how the industry is. However during her last visit she was disgusted to hear the front desk clerk, Brittney and owner Julie to be bad talking multiple ex-employees and current ones as if paying clients weren't in the lobby. Which was a clear indication that the high turnover rate in the salon is due to how the employees are treated. Extremely distasteful and unprofessional. As I even read previous reviews I see a few other comments about the unprofessionalism at the spa and by especially by the front desk clerk. For adult women to carry themselves in that manner while offering subpar service & overcharging is mind boggling. CCS is the best place in Baltimore to get waxed. After trying different B'more salons, and receiving Brazilian waxes from across the U.S.--from Hawaii to St. Louis to Miami to NYC, I have come to this conclusion. I walked in and was greeted, then filled out a Covid-19 questionnaire which I felt much better knowing that they are thinking of this and will use it to track and trace should any illness occur. I drove from DC and got a touch up for my microblade eyebrows and a initial pass for cosmetic tattoo eyeliner. Brooke was wonderful, she was careful, thoughtful and communicative. Got a wax for the first time in like two years on various parts of my body. Melissa was professional, friendly and extremely fast- I was in and out in 35 minutes. The place is inviting without making me feel like I'm not fancy enough, extremely clean and really spacious for a space in a Hampden row house. What impressed me most was the speed at which Melissa worked- she was very through (and I have more than a little hair), made pleasant conversation, played great music, and really worked with me so that it was as painless as possible. I have gone to Charm City Skin twice for my waxing needs. On both occasions I saw Ari. I am really pleased with her work! The products she used did not irritate my skin at all and I still have no ingrown hairs. The wax lasted a long time considering I have hair that grows back quickly and thickly.
