I initially scheduled packing services the day before my move but ended up not needing it, and they were completely understanding. They called the day before the move to confirm and then Tank, Moses, and Shon showed up promptly and took care of the whole move SO fast! My couch was too large for the elevator at my new place so the guys ended up carrying it up the stairs! They went the extra mile and were efficient and communicative. Charm City Movers made it so the actual physical moving of boxes and furniture was the least stressful part of my move. They were great. The people I talked to on the phone, Felix and two others whose names I forgot, were knowledgable and straightforward, and made booking the move painless. They also didn't require a deposit, which was nice. FYI: they itemize everything you are moving ahead of time, including number of boxes, and base the quote on that. Quote stood firm at the end of the day. There is also a yelp discount. The actual day of the move, the 4 guys were scheduled to show up between 8 and 9 am. They showed up around 8:00 and proceeded to load, move, and unload my 1-bedroom apartments worth of stuff to the new apartment 8.5 miles away, in about 1.5 hours total. They were extremely efficient. They didn't bat an eye at the heat, or having to move things to a 3rd floor walk up. I certainly would have been complaining! In fact, I was complaining, and I didn't even have to lift furniture! These guys were really professional about the conditions. Great, fast move! The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I think they could have probably been a bit more careful with the furniture. Nothing broke, but there were a few small dents here and there, and on the walls, and they did put my wood furniture in the wet grass before loading. Luckily I don't care too much about stuff like that, but I know some people do, so I would be vigilant if you have fancy furniture. Also, the price was a bit on the high end for the amount of stuff I had, but I was willing to pay it for the lack of hassle and good service. I would definitely use them again! read more

My move was scheduled for 28 Oct in the morning. While scheduling the move, I made many changes and spoke to different individuals. I must admit to being a bit skeptical, especially as no deposit was required. I received a call the day before as promised and all my changes had been incorporated. On the morning of the move, three gentlemen arrived and each introduced himself to me - very professional and friendly. They were efficient and fast, always checking with me to ensure my wishes were being met. I was very pleased when they left. A little while after that, I had an issue with something I was told that seemed to conflict with what I actually found (a broken leg). I called the office and the gentleman who took my called was determined to get to the bottom of the issue. I am even more pleased to say it was a total misunderstanding. I would most definitely use CCM again. I found them to be honest, accommodating and fair. Every time we move, my husband and I look at each other and say, "that's it" and promise each other we will stay put... so here it is, September 2013 and we are moving... again! This time the move is from a storage unit to a new house and we are not sure what to expect. I am a bit nervous because my husband has told me the storage units are packed. The staff I communicated with while making our reservation were incredibly helpful, professional, and super quick to respond to my inquiries via email. This was one of two reasons I decided to book with Charm City Movers after getting quotes from other vendors. The other reason is because of the fixed rate, which I loved and appreciated. As for the movers themselves, they were timely and professional. They were also SUPER fast, which was great. That said, we had a few items that ended up getting scratched and bent, which made re-assembly extremely difficult. We didn't even have that many items for them to move from our one bedroom apartment and the whole experience lasted only a couple hours. *In full transparency, I should have posted this review three years ago, but forgot. I remembered now because we're looking for movers again and this company showed up. I used this company when I moved from PA to Baltimore three years ago. They met me at my house in PA, which was about three hours from Baltimore, loaded me up and moved me to Baltimore. It was a long day. Pros: They were SUPER friendly and easy to with with. They were fairly quick Cons: They charge by the box, not by the hour, like most other companies. I spoke with the scheduler and told her everything I had in my house and the approximate number of boxes I would have and she gave me a quote. I was all packed and ready to be moved when they arrived. However, when they came to the house to look at my boxes and count them, I had about five extra boxes so I thought it wasn't going to be a big deal. It was a HUGE deal! They then considered my lamps to be individual boxes. They considered all my luggage to be individual boxes. I had a very small miniature bookshelf and they considered that to be additional box. They considered my vacuum cleaner to be an additional box. They considered my grill to be an additional box. Long story short, they charged me almost $1100 more than my quote and they wouldn't move a single item until I agreed to pay that fee. I was extremely disappointed and felt like I had been bamboozled and they took advantage of me. I was not happy about it at all, but there was nothing I could do because I had to move and they knew that. They added so much extra stress to the stress I already had about moving to a brand new city. Additionally, I had just purchased a brand new ceramic barbecue grill (Big Green Egg). They went to pick it up, dropped it, and it cracked into several pieces. Initially I did not get upset because I since they dropped it, they should pay to replace it. They disagreed and said that they would not cover the cost of the grill because I should've told them special instructions on how to move it. By this time, it was one of the last items to go on the truck and we needed to leave, but told them that it was unacceptable. Once I moved to the new place, I called the manager to complain. She was initially resistant to pay for the grill, but I'm happy that she finally agreed to do so. Overall, they weren't bad and as I said above, were quite easy to work with. I just think that they need to be extremely clear and upfront about the pricing structure so that there are zero surprises when they arrive for the move or change their strategy and charge by the hour and not by the box. read more

Just had another great experience with Charm City Movers over the weekend. Yet again, the movers were amazing (and FAST!), and we arrived with no broken or otherwise damaged items. Tammy kept in touch the whole time via email, and I'm highly satisfied with the process, from start to finish. I received a quote within a half hour or so of filling out the form, was able to talk to Tammy about changes to the items I was moving, and received an updated quote (I think there were three updates in all) really quickly. There were no nasty surprises, no haggling, no nothing. Just an attitude of "We'll take care of it, don't worry about it." My oldest daughter was moving and needed moving help from parents and professionals due to conflicting work schedule. My wife called several moving companies including Charm City Movers which was highly recommended by daughter's coworker. Charm City Movers submitted the lowest bid. Best of all, the company was very responsive to all of our inquiries. Our phone calls were always answered with friendliness and respect. The other companies had much higher bids and not so responsive and friendly. One company even refused to bid because the job was too small for them. Charm City also gave my daughter a $30 discount because of her coworkers referral. On the date of the move, the workers arrived on time. Also, the supervisor was constantly giving us update on arrival time by phone. The movers were very friendly, professional, and quick. Nothing was broken or scratch. Felix was very nice to help arrange the move in, thank you!! Cons: Unfortunately, the lead mover ruined the experience. The lead mover assigned to unload my truck was extremely unprofessional and very rude to me. He was very aggressive with his attitude and made the experience incredibly uncomfortable. He was yelling on the phone about quitting and walking away from the job because there was more stuff than he wanted to unload. The other 3 men on his team were polite and nice, but unfortunately the leader of the team made the move in day extremely uncomfortable, and ruined my review for this moving company. Pros: The items moved from the truck were stacked in appropriate places, which was a positive. The Movers worked quickly to upload the truck. Nothing was broken on their account. I hired these folks to move a couple pieces of furniture and some boxes from my old place to my new one. They were not cheap but I tend to believe you get what you pay for. They arrived on time and loaded my few items very quickly. We arrived at my new place and they placed my items in also very quickly. They set up the futon backwards. I had to ask them to reverse it. The futon cover which started clean was dirty and streaked with dust. It appeared that they'd laid it on the ground or on the floor of their moving van without any blankets. My boxes which were carefully marked were stacked here and there with the fragile items (marked clearly as fragile) stacked in the bottom! I had less boxes and a bookcase than I had asked them to move. The representative told me over the phone that they would adjust the price on site. Yeah right. I received a whole $15 deduction from the price. I think a bookcase and the fewer boxes were more but I was in a hurry and at that point just wanted them gone. I was moving my futon later and discovered they had somehow twisted the metal frame so that part of the one side was outside the metal brackets so that I couldn't change it to the upright position. It took us some struggling and maneuvering it to get it twisted back the right way. I'm not impressed with this company. They weren't the worst but not the best either and for the price...yeah not do great. read more

I've had to move twice within the last year and a half. Charm City Movers was definitely the better of the two local movers I used especially for their reasonable pricing. I appreciated the item pricing versus the hourly pricing. They were really easy to work and flexible in terms of scheduling. The movers were courteous, careful and strong. My sister and brother-in-law referred Charm City Movers to me and I'm so glad they did! This was my 6th household move in 10 years and was, by far, the easiest and best experience. Every step of the process is easy. I got a call from Felix within two hours of filling out the information online and she was fantastic. After we spoke through my inventory she even made a few suggestions on how I could cut down the bill a bit. I told her how much I appreciated it and was so shocked she was telling me about them. If I could leave zero stars I would. I think this is a case where it just really really depends which squad of guys they send your way. After negotiating for some time with different moving companies, we chose Charm City for their good reviews which cite a guy named Felix to move my house worth of 50-70 year old furniture that I collect, as well as a small set of knick knack and book boxes. The guys came into my apartment to pack the furniture into their truck and immediately were complaining that furniture (normal furniture, like drawers) was too heavy, boxes were too heavy, pretty much everything. They asked me if I would help them haul and I said I couldn't and I got a shitty look. I'm a 100 lb girl. Afterward, they left trash in the apartment, lights on in the apartment, and left telling us we better "beat them" to the new house to open it up because this had already taken a really long time and they wanted to be done. We did.. Actually I beat them by long enough that I wondered if they got lost. They arrived and began unloading my furniture onto the sidewalk because the four men in the team couldn't coordinate getting into my door fast enough to get items off the truck fast enough. They clearly just wanted to be done. Every time I asked for a box or piece of furniture to be taken anywhere except the front room of the house, I encountered resistance, either with an exasperated sigh, a roll of the eyes, or a flat out refusal. Early on, the main person said he didn't want to be a mover anymore and he hated his job. He was mad at the crew and very annoyed to be there. He said he just wanted to be done efficiently and get out. Rather than get into the particulars of the event of their unloading itself, I will just leave this with the bottom line: In the end, we were left with a front room and kitchen (all on the first floor) that couldn't be more full to the brim with boxes, no items delivered downstairs (I carried a few myself after it was refused) and very minimal items delivered upstairs, each requiring bargaining on my part. They had knocked a quarter size whole in one wall, knocking an antique off of a table into the wall, and a dime size gouge in another wall. One piece of antique furniture was scratched very considerably on all three sides, including deep gouges in the front and many large scratches on the sides. An antique mirror with a wooden frame was cracked, a desk older than myself was left with a decent gouge in it, and another piece of melamine furniture was scratched deeply. Frankly, that's just what we have discovered thus far. Because so much of what was delivered was piled on top of one another - crushing boxes in the process that thankfully didn't result in any major damage therein because we had moved the super breakable things ourselves - we have taken a few days to even discover the extent of what was damaged. What I will say is that it seems that their central office is at least somewhat interested in working with us to remedy the situation. They have been responsive and we are negotiating how things will be fixed. However, it is hard not to feel violated all the same by the way these guys acted in my home with my stuff and the damage that was caused. Every time I walk past some thrashed piece of midcentury furniture I feel sick and irresponsible myself for having selected this company to move my belongings. UPDATE (9/9/16)- This owner is being reactionary and dishonest. I was given less than 5 minutes to give him my full real name and contact info before he posted on here discrediting my review. Please know that this experience was very real. Not without irony, the business owner has not responded to or returned any calls since this Yelp interaction occurred. UPDATE (9/16/16)- The crappy story of this place continues. We finally did get someone from this business to call us back. She apologized profusely on the phone and said that the completely DISHONEST response on this page would be removed imminently. Clearly that has not happened. They claimed that many "bad" reviews are actually their competitors pretending to be customers on here and discrediting them. When I asked how dedicated a person would have to be to be part of the Yelp community for 136 reviews and counting just to make a fake review on their Yelp page seem credible, they didn't have much of an answer to that either. Bottom line: STAY AWAY from Charm City Movers!! Frankly, the whole discussion with them since this review, the whole bizarre and negative interaction, has made me super suspicious of the way they may be attempting to game the review system on here in the first place. read more

This was probably one of the best decisions I've made with moving. From the beginning, Tammy was warm and friendly, and gave a wonderful (and super reasonable) quote for my move. I had asked for a morning time slot, but they only had the afternoon slot at the time. She made a note on my quote information, and a couple of days before the move I was contacted because an earlier time slot had opened up. Chris called me the day before to confirm my move and the time, and I received a call this morning to let me know that the movers had finished the first job early and could accommodate my move even earlier! Moses, Michael, Tank, and Tyler are as polite as they are efficient. They made sure that I felt comfortable and calm throughout the entire process, which was a feat. They were meticulous about making sure that my furniture wasn't damaged in any way and that none of the walls were touched, including on the stairs. It was amazing. Once I completed the inventory form online, Felix called right away to review the items and seek more details which was helpful when you are quoting someone to be sure all parties are clear. She took her time to explain everything and provided me with moving suggestions on how to get rid of or condense things down. DO NOT USE CHARM CITY MOVERS (ccm). Bottom line: for a company that offers a guarantee price, you WILL NOT get a guarantee from them, and you WILL receive poor customer service. I emailed ccm telling them about all of the furniture that I had and that I was looking to move on 8/13/2016. They told me that they have a minimum price of $400 and based on our conversation and my email, I had so little furniture that they could move one of my TV's (I was willing to move both to save $) plus all my furniture and I still would not be above the minimum. They said this amount of $400 was all I would pay and reassured me of this multiple times. The day of, they got to my house and saw my sectional and told me that they had not been informed I had a sectional and it would cost be an EXTRA $120. TOTALING $520. I had no choice (I am a single girl) and had to agree. When they got to my new house, they told me that my sectional would not fit in the basement. I asked if we could try from the back door and they reluctantly agreed. We tried to get it through that door and it would not fit. Since they had been there for LESS THAN 1.5 hours, I asked if we could move the couch inside through the front door to the living room and I would figure out what to do. They told me that they "didn't have time and wanted to get to the next job, then THEY LEFT MY SECTIONAL OUT OF MY DECK FOR ME TO MOVE IN MYSELF SO IT DIDN'T GET DESTROYED IN THE RAIN that night. The next business day, I called and explained how I was charged an extra $120, including a fee for a sectional that I told them I have that they chose to not put on their inventory list, and, on top of it THEY DID NOT EVEN MOVE THE PIECE THEY WERE CHARGING ME EXTRA FOR AND LEFT IT IN THE RAIN. I was told that they did have the sectional on the original email I sent but it "just must have been an oversight" and that they would get back to me the next afternoon at the latest. That was yesterday and since I did not hear from them I called them this morning and they did not pick up. Do not use, I honestly would not wish this awful experience on anyone. read more

So I'm just going to put it out there that I've moved....a lot. I'm talking 15 moves within the last six years. FIFTEEN MOVES. Whew, I'm tired just thinking about it. But my latest move from Owings Mills into Baltimore came up in February and I knew that I didn't want to move myself. Noooo thank you. So I went onto trusty Craigslist and searched for help. One of the first listings was Charm City Movers. After making a call and NOT being answered by "UHmm, hello?"... I knew I had found my movers. They were cheaper, they seemed to have their act together and they were really flexible in trying to move me during all of the lovely snow storms we were getting. Fast forward to moving day and let me say that it took the four guys that showed up (I was only expecting 2!) twenty minutes to load all of my stuff into their truck. Yeah, seriously. Including the 30 minute travel time, the loading, driving and unloading only took one hour and fifteen minutes. Unbelievable! I was so impressed...I really have never had such a relaxed move. They helped me move in October of 2020 and did a great job. At first, the per item charge for moving seemed complicated, but it turned out to be just fine. This way may be better than per hour charges; the work crew worked REALLY FAST, which I appreciated. I had everything boxed, padded and ready when they arrived so that probably helped a lot. I moved from an apartment in downtown Baltimore to the Pods facility in Middle River. This way seemed easier to me than putting the pod on the street and obtaining the parking/pod permits from the city. The Charm City guys did a great job of loading the pod at the facility staging area. All items made it to the destination in good shape. From start to finish total time (without a minor traffic incident that they had) was about an hour or slightly more--now that IS FAST. Had the rest of the day to do whatever else I wanted! read more

We hired this company based on the number of good reviews. I've waited to review hoping that with time and perspective, I could write a better review. We initially talked to a rep who took our inventory and gave us a quote. We expected a costly move because we have so much stuff. Because we moved out of a townhouse, the rep was convinced we our inventory was too high. I stressed that we if anything we probably had more. Despite COVID, I insisted on an in-person assessment so he could see how much stuff we had. Any box or bin that's bigger than a small Home Depot/Lowes moving box is considered a 2 man box and costs more. Likewise, very heavy small boxes are 2 man boxes. I counted all large or heavy boxes/bins as 2 man boxes, but the rep changed them to regular boxes. The day before the move, another rep contacted me to confirm the details and again asked if our box count was accurate. I told her we had at least the same number, maybe more. At no time did I underestimate the size or length of our move. I told the rep from the very first conversation that it would take 2 trips, and more than 4 movers would be best. The rep said it was definitely a 2 trip job, but said 4 movers were enough. The rep set us and our movers up for failure. When the lead mover arrived (on time and ready to go!), he said the move was bigger than they expected. You could see the movers' frustration. I told the lead that we told the rep how much stuff we had, but that the rep lowered our numbers, so if there was any misunderstanding, it was between the rep and the movers. The lead didn't say anything, and they got to work. To their credit, the movers were fast, and they took great care not to damage the rental we were moving out of. They really hauled @$$!!! We were very impressed! However, it became clear they didn't want to make 2 trips. My dad was a career truck driver, and I know they need to pack tight so things don't shift, but I suspect they crammed and stacked more than they should have because they *really* didn't want to make 2 trips. They said one guy would come back with his pickup truck to get the rest. What was left was more than would fit in a pickup, but we agreed to keep things moving. Things got sketchy when we got to the new house. Before they started unloading, the lead again complained that we had a lot of stuff, and also complained our piano (that was in the inventory) was heavy. I think it's common knowledge that pianos are heavy. That's why we paid extra to have them move it! With their truck full of our stuff sitting unloaded in front of the house, and a lot of stuff still at our old place, the lead wanted to discuss their tip. He gave us 2 options: either he'd increase the base price due to larger amount of stuff, and we'd be expected to pay a higher tip, or he'd keep the base price the same but we had to agree to a bigger tip. I thought this was unprofessional and highly suspicious. We agreed to a bigger tip because we were afraid they'd refuse to unload the truck, get the rest of our stuff, and/or do a really bad job of unloading. The movers are independent contractors, getting paid an amount per move, plus tip, with no benefits. We questioned them about these points, which were a factored into our decision, because we'd rather put money in the hands of the guys actually working, rather than the company that's not even setting up the jobs properly. However, we felt very exploited, especially since we didn't have the ability to move things ourselves. It's made question the overall professionalism and eithics of this company. The guy who brought the rest in his pickup truck didn't come until about 11pm that night. By 9pm, we were convinced they weren't going to get it, or had stolen our stuff! He said he was on another job that took 12 hours to finish. We realized they were in a rush with our move because they wanted to get in on the other more lucrative job. Even after we agreed to a hefty tip, the movers were less careful when unloading. They banged things into our walls, put down stacks too hard, and nearly dropped boxes in their rush. As we've unpacked, we've found a lot of marks and damage on our furniture. Considering this was the most expensive mover we've hired, and we got shook down for a bigger tip, the amount damage is unacceptable. The company refuses to be liable for any damage to Ikea/Ikea-like furniture, which is a pretty terrible policy. If they can't handle lightweight, collapsible furniture, why would you trust them with solid wood furniture? read more
