Dupont Circle, Downtown

I had had a great experience with them just last year when I last moved and knew they'd be able to get the job done again. My project was immediately responded to and they were able to help me move two weeks later on their soonest available date. The three movers, Pat, Renaldo, and Kevin were incredible. Communication leading up to the move and theday of was great. They were able to move all my large furniture within 2 hours. Everything was wrapped carefully and efficiently. They were kind and thoughtful, helping me make adjustments to the furniture layout once we got to the destination. Their positivity through one of the hardest situations I've ever gone through was much-needed and made me feel confident in entering this next chapter. I even had a last minute change to the destination (originally everything was going into storage but I ended up finding an apartment just in time), and the professionalism and patience from the entire Bookstore team through this change was excellent. Pricing was reasonable yet again and came out to about $500 (excluding tip) for the truck fee and moving of 16 large items. Thank you Bookstore Movers for helping me when I needed it most!

We were disappointed with our recent experience with Bookstore Movers. The crew was polite, but the…read moremove felt much slower and less efficient than it should have been. We had a dedicated elevator, yet workers often brought items down only one or two at a time. I also saw team members on their phones or standing around in rooms and hallways instead of actively moving things. These delays added up quickly. The crew also misplaced parts of our bed frame, and the pieces had to be found before it could be reassembled. That alone added nearly an hour to the move. Because the move took much longer than expected, the final cost was significantly higher than the estimate we received. We were also charged based on an arrival time that was recorded as ten minutes earlier than when the crew actually arrived. The team was courteous, but given the inefficiency, added time, and higher final price, we would not use Bookstore Movers again. This is unfortunate, because we had been happy with them in previous moves.

"White glove" customer service began the moment I called about services. Cecelia took my call and guided me step by step, she even allowed me to do a FaceTime tour so I didn't have to fill out forms on how much furniture, how many boxes etc. I received email, text and phone calls to confirm service and given status update on arrival. The entire crew was friendly, respectful and efficient. When we learned our house had "too much" stuff they quickly (and behind the scenes) brought a 2nd truck for moving day. The problem solved before there was a problem! Top notch moving company!!!

There were two men on the job who handled my items with care and asked me questions about what was suppose to go the whole time. I had a great experience and the stress that it eliminated was well worth the money. The starting prices are reasonable and my only complaint would be that if there was at least another person it would have went by faster. I did end up paying for an additional hour, but it was WORTH it! I would recommend them and I would use them again. The next time I will be more realistic with myself about the time it will take and plan accordingly.

That was a big mistake. This time I went right to Doyle. You get what you pay for, my friends. Ryan, the owner, was very responsive and we made an appointment to do a video walk-through of our condo. We did the walk-through, he asked a lot of questions and then he promptly sent an estimate. We have a lot of things so it took five guys and two trucks. The crew leader contacted me the day before to confirm the details and they showed up promptly the day of. They were incredibly friendly, fun, and energetic the entire time. And very polite. They treated all of our things very well and didn't have a problem moving any of the weird odds and ends we couldn't find a way to pack. When we arrived they put everything in the new house where we wanted it and even though we could tell they were suffering from the extreme heat and the weight and amount of our things, they never lagged or complained. They put the beds back together quickly and correctly as well as the dining room table. I'd be in hospital if I had to move all my stuff. At the end, the crew leader went over the paperwork, explained all the final charges line-by-line, and took payment. Very professional. We could not be happier. They were a great crew of guys. Ryan has a great company and I couldn't recommend them more.

After we listed our home for sale, I started getting incessant texts and phone calls from them at my UNLISTED phone number. When I asked how they got it, I was told it was in the MLS listing! I would rather move all my furniture myself than hire this company.

Also, they have the ability for you to estimate an inventory of your items online as oppose to manual. This is helpful in planning your move. Affordability and accommodating the main selling point and delineation with this moving company. NewRay accommodated my move which required transporting and moving items from my home as a first stop.......to making an additional stop to an UHaul Storage facility to pick up additional items as part of the move before heading to my final destination. On the move day, the movers arrived during the time window expected and were great. I must admit though, I was a bit frustrated with the size of the truck promised and offered for my move. 2 Star deduction for not offering the truck promised or communicating /updating me on the change. Initially, it seemed too small for the numbers of items and stops I knew we had to make, but we made it work out fine. Between packing items in our cars and their smaller truck, we were able to handle the move. The workers deserves a "high-five!" They were so fast, efficient and worked very hard. They were even patient and accommodating to assist in the packing of items, as to I was still packing when they arrived. Upon arrival to my new home, they took great care and attention to moving items into the house and assembling furniture. Everything arrived in great condition; with no damage I might add. In all, I am happy I made the decision to go with NewRay movers. Despite the misunderstanding on my expectation of the truck size expected, my move was handled competently. Scheduling was easy and the entire process in all honesty was seamless. Not to mention, the price point (hourly rate) was one of the better rates offered in DMW for my move. Although they do have a 6% credit card surcharge which is bit steep, this is something that was made clear upfront. In all, good price and their team made it work for the price. Would I recommend NewRay Moving? I must be honest, I am on the fence but would consider them as an option if there was a need for another move at least due to how nice the workers were and how accommodating they were to our needs.....despite the management and Sash's mishaps.

TMAAT was recommended and they did not disappoint! I called and spoke to Renada on a Wednesday to arrange movers for a week later. She was very patient and quickly walked me through the steps, took my inventory and answered questions. After some discussion with family, I called back to confirm and spoke with Derek who was just as professional. He suggested I might need three men instead of two and explained the pricing was basically the same. Upon receiving the emailed quote/pre-move confirmation, I noticed the starting address was incorrect. I called on a Saturday and Makayla updated the address while I was on the phone and promptly emailed it to me for signature. The day before the move I called to confirm everything and was told everything was set. The morning of the move, Jerrell called me with an ETA of 55 minutes. He, along with George and Marcus, arrived exactly on time and ready to help. All three were professional and very friendly, upbeat and positive for an early morning, and agreeable to wearing booties in the house per the real estate agent since it had been raining for two days. I admit they had bug eyes when I pointed out extremely heavy patio furniture, but they got right to work and were careful and efficient. They wrapped mattresses and patio heaters, were very careful with artwork and followed instructions of where to place the items as they took them off the truck in Baltimore County. I had paid $100 deposit prior to the move, and this amount was included in my final payment, which was shockingly the exact amount they quoted me in my estimate. No upcharges or extra fees. I honestly expected about $200 more in fees since I was right at the 6-hour deadline. I appreciated their honesty and integrity with my belongings and my money and time. They made moving day way less stressful and a positive experience due to their timeliness, professionalism and kindness, not to mention their lighthearted and friendly attitudes. I would definitely use this company again and hope to get these THREE MEN AND A TRUCK: Jerrell, George and Marcus. After the move, I got a couple of texts from Seth asking how the move went and asking for some follow up. I appreciated the reach out, as it showed the company values feedback.

I'll be blunt: fuck this company. I'd give 0 stars or negative if I could. I should've read more…read morereviews prior to hiring these incompetent people. Now, reading the other reviews, I feel like I dodged a bullet in a way. I'm actually flabbergasted this company is still functioning or allowed to operate. I plan to complain to BBB. To preface: I honestly don't even know what location my movers were coming out of. The paperwork was inconsistent. My paperwork listed Crofton, MD, but the individual I spoke with over the phone said they just have their Red Branch location now, so I assumed that's where they'd be coming from. I wouldn't trust any/either of the Maryland locations at all though. I booked a move roughly two weeks ago. A SMALL, very SIMPLE move. Just about 1 bedroom worth of stuff to a studio apartment 30 mins away (Dundalk to Towson). I spoke with Chantel on the phone and she was relatively nice and helpful. I paid a $100 deposit. As the move approached I received numerous calls, voicemails and texts to confirm my move. I confirmed with them over the phone. My new building is a high rise and I had to reserve a loading dock and freight elevator and the reservations are 3-hour time blocks. I blocked off 11am-2pm at the loading dock, informed the movers of this, and they assured me they would be at my place to begin the move between 8:30 and 10am-ish. At 9am I got a call from Two Men and the guy said he wanted to be "really transparent with me" and informed me that he had a "bunch of guys with the flu called out sick" and he would be unable to perform my move today. He asked if I could reschedule my move for 4 DAYS LATER on CHRISTMAS EVE. Are you fucking kidding me??! All my belongings were in boxes, I had slept on the couch because I took apart my bed and moved my mattress (in order to make the move easier for the movers), and I had nowhere to sleep for another 4 nights, nor any clothes, shower items, etc because everything was IN BOXES READY TO MOVE. What the hell?! I had this reservation for 2 weeks!! He then said he could do it tomorrow (so somehow he went from "I can do this 4 days from now" to "I can do this tomorrow" ??). He said he'd do it at a discount. I asked how large of a discount? He said he couldn't tell me LOL Are you kidding me? You're offering me a discount but can't tell me how much, what a joke. Unacceptable. At that point I was 1) running late to my loading dock reservation time, 2) very upset and angry, and 3) had a VERY bad feeling about these movers and no longer trusted anything they said or had to offer me. It was so obvious they were lying blatantly to my face lmao They really think I'm fucking stupid. I don't believe for one second that "all your guys are sick." Boo fucking hoo. Not my problem. Hire more employees so you can cover for the ones who are out sick. I am PAYING YOU to do YOUR JOB! How do I even know your guys are "sick" for real. I doubt they're even actually sick. They were probably just out late drinking the previous night or whatever and called in "sick." Whether they're sick or not is not the point. The point is that I DO NOT CARE, I paid for a service and I expect that service to be carried out. I got so pissed, I didn't even bother to call these idiots back. I am lucky to have some very supportive, very kind friends who stepped up for me and we performed the move ourselves in roughly 4 hours; myself, one man, and my (currently pregnant) best friend. To be clear: my PREGNANT best friend (who can't lift heavy objects at the moment) was more helpful than these ""two men."" Thanks to my friend's help, I completed my move without this shitty company, and I also got my deposit back (after my friend advocated for me and demanded it back). DO NOT HIRE. DO NOT LET THESE PEOPLE LIE TO YOU. DO NOT LET THEM LEAVE YOU HIGH AND DRY. DO NOT TRUST. I truly don't understand how they can expect people to simply reschedule a move the day of. A move is a pre-planned, pre-arranged ordeal. I don't need to explain this but many moves have a time constraint: my time constraint was just a loading dock, but often times people absolutely HAVE to have all their belongings out of a place by a certain day and time or their stuff could simply be thrown in the street. Sometimes emergencies happen and people have to move out FAST (for safety reasons, for their kids, so they can start a new job right away, etc). I'm lucky I wasn't currently in a situation like that, but it's unacceptable for a moving company to cancel on you last minute or not show up when your whole life revolves around your move and your housing situation. I am ultimately so glad these people never touched any of my belongings. My friends and I used our collective strength, motivation, savvy, and hustle to complete my move with one platform dolly and 2 SUV's. My friend said it best: it's a case of "if you want something done right DO IT YOURSELF."

This was not an issue of "budget," but rather of expectations set by your company not being met. Customers should be able to rely on a moving service to honor the scheduled time, come prepared, and communicate honestly. Unfortunately, that did not happen here. What's more telling is that several other reviews describe the same experience I had--so this isn't an isolated issue. Instead of addressing that pattern, your assumption is that I "couldn't afford the move"... interesting. While I understand setbacks can occur, dismissing concerns by blaming the customer is not good business practice. I reached out…read moreto a few places for quotes and Serena responded quickly with an estimate and a clearly explained breakdown. The estimate was in line with the other companies I reached out to but they were the only company that provided a time estimate, and that was really helpful for me to feel like I could truly get an idea of my likely final cost range (assuming I didn't add anything major to my moving list). Booking was easy and done entirely online and then via email and text message for confirmations. My movers were Luca and Alpha. The called about 40 minutes before the start time to let me know their ETA, which was actually about 10 minutes before the arrival window started so we were off to a great start. Moving day is always nerve-wracking and adding strangers into the mix can be unpredictable, but they both took the time to introduce themselves by name and were so polite, kind, and calm right off the bat that it was a huge relief. We did a quick walkthrough of the house and they asked for clarifications or more information at times, which was great because I felt like they were really listening and paying attention to my comments and concerns. Then the move itself was smooth and uneventful. I didn't have any concerns about my furniture because I saw them wrapping everything up securely. At one point, a screw came loose from one of my table legs. Alpha found me to ask if I knew about any issues with the legs on that table. I told him it was a second-hand table so I wasn't sure, but asked if it was a big issue. He said no, and that he could put the screw back in, but he wanted other make sure I knew it had happened. I know that's partially because they don't want to be blamed for something they didn't do, but I still appreciated that they called it to my attention right away so there weren't any issues or questions later, and that he was able to fix it for me. Once we got to the new place, they took the time to ask where I wanted specific furniture or boxes to go in my new place so that I wouldn't have to move it all to a different room later. They wrapped up just a little ahead of the estimated time and it was super convenient to pay with Venmo. All-in-all it was a great experience and I'd use them again if I'm moving in the area.
