The fish was crispy on the outside, the fries were nicely cooked, and the quesadilla was filling and tasty. We also enjoyed the colorful tortilla chips served with the quesadilla. The restaurant had a casual, lively atmosphere and the service was friendly. They also have a large drink menu with cocktails, beer, wine and non-alcoholic options. Part of the challenge is that White Rock's food and bev scene has exploded over the last decade and there is a lot of great places to eat... Charlie 123... Always a nice little walk along Beach avenue and the pier in White Rock but in the last 2-3 years, it's becoming another Surrey. Why not,"?!? perfect combo ; have pizza in Surrey and come to Whiterock for dessert and ice cream! (Might as well change it to BrownRock soon... not being racist so chill!) Anyways, came here a few times over the decade but can't remember how it was. Decided to try place again to refresh my memory. This place is located right on Beach Ave, steps away from the Brownrock pier... I mean Whiterock pier. It has that late 90s kind of atmosphere, old but not old kind of vibe. Anyways, here were the food I ordered; 1. Homemade clam chowder (New England style). Very nice!! Nice rich and flavourful! Remember how just my dad used to make it back in the days. 2. Calamari. It was okay, pretty average, nothing to complain or cheer about. 3. Chicken wings (salt&pepper). Small and drier than granny's toe nails. It's almost a $20 fail! 4. Chicken strips with fries. Once again, more of chicken jerkies than tenders. Dry dry dry... 5. West-coast bouillabaisse. Unfortunately, most of the seafoods were either rubbery or powdery. This is one dish takes skill and precision to master because of all the seafoods are served in a hot broth. 6. Fish and chips (wild pacific cod). Very nice! Perfectly done! A nice thin light crispy batter wrapped around a thick filet of fresh tasty juicy cod. This dish lives up to its name. This place is actually pretty big inside with an outside patio stretches from one end to the other end of the restaurant. It still has that early 90s layout and decor, very causal and right on Beach Ave and mins walk away from the pier and parking lot. The service was okay, friendly server and staffs. Nothing to complain about besides could be slightly more attentive. As for the food, some are pretty good and some were like I had better ones from PC brand in a microwaves. The chowder and fish & chips were pretty food. The rest of them would be more enjoyable for those who enjoys a nice cold beer with meat jerkies while watching Family Guy reruns. Overall, I have other places to revisit before back here again unless Charlie surfs up its quality, otherwise it will be just a 1 2 3 stars. read more

Came when they first opened last weekend. The patio has great view of the pier and water. The inside is rustic but very 'busy' as there are so many unique things like chandelier, different style of chairs, different types of tables, accent lighting, etc. The fish chip was good although not the best I've had. It may look crispy but it wasn't crunch crispy. It was a little soft. I get home unwrap my meal. Fish looked different, much heavier batter than when ordered in the restaurant in October. The ends were burnt and had no fish in them, batter greasy and heavy. 100% not the same as when I ordered in the restaurant in October. A group of us stopped into Charlie's for a quick drink before pressing on with our day. The day of our visit was rainy so the warmth of Charlie's was welcoming. We also sat right next to the fireplace while enjoying our sips. Charlie's offers an outdoor seating area to enjoy on warmer days. There are blankets provided at each table to ward off the chill. Nice touch Charlie. Visa and MasterCard are accepted forms of payment. Indoors is eclectic and visually stimulating. I had a Fat Tug IPA for $6.95 and my daughter had a Bellini for $8.95. The shop was 1/4 occupied only. We were there at around 1610, reception told us to finish the table within 20 mins, we are OK. As we plan to have a drink to cool down only. We gave phone number and name to receptionist, she told us to wait 5 mins for sms then we can get in. We stood there for another 15 mins under the bright sun, melted. I walked in again to check out the status. It seems the receptionist is missing. At the same time waiter told us to wait for her to come back. We waited another 10 mins and left. Charlie's fish n chips has always been on my bucket list to try when I visit White Rock! Their fish n chips are SOOO amazing, the deep fried pacific cod was crispy and tasted so amazingly fresh! Been wanting to dine here and finally was able to do it last Saturday. The weather was awesome too. We ordered Tacos, Fish and Chips and their Burgers. We loved all of it. The place was so busy and we had to wait for an hour. We complained to our server and he was very apologetic. We ordered Charlie's famous beef burger and calamari to share. But when we went to pick up our food... nothing was ready! Had to wait an additional 15 min for them to "pack" our food. This restaurant might have one of the best locations in White Rock! Love sitting right by the windows or on the Patio! The view is just amazing. Time it right and you can sit with a glass of wine on the patio as the sun sets! Great place to people watch as there's always people walking on the sidewalk right in front of the patio! I highly recommend sitting outside on the patio during sunset for the best views of the beach. We arrived just before sunset and sat inside this time as it was a bit chilly outside. The don't have very many vegetarian options. The flatbread was very bitter. My brother ordered the pouting but the fries were very dry and he said they tasted like cardboard. I ordered the fish and chips as I've never tried then here before and considering we were on the beach, I thought it would be awesome. However, I was quite disappointed. The fries were delicious but the fish itself was WAAYY to greasy. They could've done a better job taking out the excess oil as I was unable to finish both pieces. There are so many good restaurant around rock beach. I decided to try them all one by one. Last weekend, we went Charlie Don't Surf because there are big screens so my sister can watch ball game. It's a pretty bright and open restaurant that you can enjoy sunshine and scent of the ocean. For me, it's good to take pictures for food as I like taking pictures for everything. Food is pretty good but too bad they don't have raw oysters for brunch. I like the Ahi Tuna Chop Chop Pokee the most. Raw chopped tune mixed with pineapple tastes a little bit sweet and very fresh. Went there for the first time. I ordered a salmon meal (almost $30) and was expecting it to be moist and fresh rice. What I got was a bit dry fish, and sticky, dry old re-heated rice. The waitress never came back for about 20 min and by then I had already eaten almost all of my salmon. She offered to bring me some potatoes instead. Well those took another half an hour. All they did to compensate was deduct $8 off the bill. Also another guest at our table ordered nachos which arrived cold. I don't think the servers should expect good tips if they can't ensure the food comes out hot. If Skip the Dishes can bring hot food after driving with it, so should a restaurant! I also forgot to mention, no one asked if we wanted any other drinks, or desserts. read more
